This store is a ripoff. They sell "vintage" instruments which are all in need of serious costly repairs. The average consumer or musician doesnt know about the many things that can go wrong with "vintage" gear until they play with it for a month and realize the bridge is pulling apart from the guitar, or there is a major crack in the body, or the caps in the amp need replacing. This store is dishonest. They WILL rip you off. I dont see how this place is still in business.

Stay away from this store!
I went to Rivington looking for an acoustic guitar. I played several guitars, and then the salesman started pushing this Gibson on me, saying it was the best guitar he had in the store for a while. I asked him if there were any problems with the guitar, he said "not at all, it was a gem, and it would be sold in no time". Like a fool I let him talk me into it. After a couple of days I noticed really loud buzzing coming from the guitar. To my dismay, the bridge was coming apart from the body! I'd never seen this before, nor did I know to check for it while buying. This guitar was no gem, and I guess I learned my lesson. I ended up selling the guitar, but I am an honest person and had it repaired before doing so. I ended up losing a lot of money as a result. The people in this store are liars and they sell broken, overpriced instruments. It blows my mind that these kind of scammers can stay in business.

This is a very special guitar store. They have vintage Gibsons, Fenders, Guilds, Martins, Harmony, and many other brands that most other stores do not have. They travel far and wide to find them and it shows. The guitars are well set up and very clean. Nice sales people very helpful and knowledgeable.

Just an absolute pain to deal with on a simple return and refused to refund the shipping and sales tax even though it was their fault for sending the wrong item (I don't think anyone at that store has a clue about vintage instruments - or at least could care less). What an attitude about the whole deal.must avoid - 'enough said

I recently went to Rivington Guitars to pick out a guitar for my boyfriend for Christmas. There are currently two stores. At the store that I went to there were no guitars in my price range so the sales associate kindly showed me a nice looking guitar on the internet for about $300. It is a black Emperador guitar model no. 12801 with bluebirds and grapevines on the pick guard. The website was calling it a Gibson, when really the guitar is a Gibson copy. I paid for the guitar (around $330 something with tax) in the store and headed over to the other store to pick it up. When I got there the guitar was damaged and its price tag said $250 NOT $300. When I went home I decided to do some online research. This particular Emperador guitar really sells for $150. I got ripped off! DO NOT shop at Rivington Guitars!

I loved this store!
Tons of cool vintage guitars that are hard to find. I found the sales people knowledgeable and friendly.
Prices seemed reasonable compared to other stores and they had lots of vintage Fender and Gibsons that I could not find anywhere else.
This is a must go-to store for any vintage collector. The salesperson gave me their website, and it is a must see. Tons of cool vintage gear! Check it out at www.Rivingtonguitars.com

Nice guitars but way overpriced! get it on Ebay for half price or more...the amps? well, the question is more: are you a player or a collector? real junk yard. If the owner /salesman will not do a sharp attitude change soon, this store will be closed in no time. I am a pro and music is what I do for living (and doing OK too). I feel very aggravated by people who do not even want to show you there inventory, unless they know for 100% that you are buying. If you do not buy, get out! Don't you know that a real salesman sells himself first and then his product?
unbelievable.

I got burned bad at Rivington Guitars. Never again. They sell alot of lemons in this store. Be careful. The salesman with the moustache is a jerk. Overpriced "vintage" guitars that mostly need lots of work to get them in decent playing shape. Unless you want to shell out $5000 for a 1965 Jazzmaster, you should probably stay away from this place.

This store features old, vintage guitars that are marked up due to current market expectations. The addage that you shoudln't buy a guitar in New York City is certainly true in this situation. The owner is also unfriendly and gives off the air of someone who wants to rip you off, which is absolutely the case. Find another store, this one sucks. Some nice guitars, for sure, but don't waste your time here getting ripped off.

I dealt with someone called Howie who sold me a Gretsch anniversary over the internet - not an auction. I was told that the instrument needed a neck reset but it arrived in a secure package in two halves. The guitar was most definitley sent that way and its unfortunate to learn that this store does not live up to its self acclamation. I have learnt of other peoples dissatisfaction and seriously question their integrity.
PROS: I actually got a guitar from them.
CONS: I got two halves of a guitar and extremely bad attitudes from them.

When my son first became interested in learning the guitar I wanted to get him a good quality guitar but not that expensive. I looked at the large "music chains" but they were either poor quality or too expensive for the quality items. Someone recommended Rivington and I was very happy with their selection. People sell them their good quality used guitars and I found a great Schecter guitar that was used but still good quality. I even got a good price on a used amp. My son since has bought another guitar from here and I'm also thinking of getting a good keyboard for them. They also specialize in vintage guitars and I'm sure that anyone wanting a great guitar will find it here. Very friendly staff..helped me who doesn't know much about musical instruments. A great little store with knowledeable musicians.
PROS: Professionals in music!
CONS: None

Rivington Guitars is a good place to start if you are looking for a used or vintage guitar and other equipment. There prices are pretty good and ranging from a few hundred dollars and up depending on what you are looking for. The staff are really nice and helpful. They try there best to help you get what you are looking for.
