Oh my god. Can you say cool? Well this place is beyond cool. It has all the chess sets you've ever imagined as well as the ones you never knew existed. It's all very cool and spectacular to look around at. Some sets are really expensive.. but those are the really detailed ones. Others are actually very affordable. The most important thing though.. is the service. And the guy was wonderful! He even opened up his closet to let us see closer and actually touch!

The places to play chess in New York have been dwindling for years, still a few venues hang in. Located in Greenwich Village close to Soho for a small place Chess Forum has alot to offer. You can play, players of all levels hang out looking for games, you can buy chess books, sets, or just watch the action. On Saturdays there are usually lots of kids playing but the rest of the week belongs to the adults.

PROS: You can buy a Simpsons Chess set here
CONS: The real players who hang out here would laugh at you buying a Simpsons set

I bought a beautiful chess set here for a christmas gift. It was a pretty pricey. My only problem is that I do not feel I got what I paid for. Now, this could just be my fault for not knowing too much about materials and what not about chess boards and pieces but I also feel that they may have taken advantage off this. Just make sure you know what you are looking for and be prepared to negotiate. They do not post the prices of their merchandise so it is quite possible they will quote higher than it is worth.

Tucked away in the "chess district," south of Washington Square Park, this is where true enthusiasts come. They shop, but more often they play. The front of the store is devoted to various chess accoutrements, but the…
