Loved the whole experience at Caroline's Comedy club. I've been a few times and enjoyed this last visit most. The comedians were all hysterical and it was the best of the Breakout Artist series. It was August 24th and each comedian was as funny if not funnier than the last and than we were treated to a wonderful headline performance by Veronica Mosey. Just a lot of laughs and are large group were thrilled we went.

I have been to Carolines four times and I keep coming back for more. When you are there, you get the sense that Carolines is the cream of the crop in the world of NYC comedy clubs. My boyfriend and I ate dinner in the lounge, and then the hostess showed us to our seats. We could see the comics perfectly. The only downside was that the drinks were a bit pricey, but it was nice to sip a cocktail while watching the show. Everyone around us just seemed to be having a great time, and we were too! I have recommended the club to a bunch of my friends and they have all loved it as well. It is an authentic NYC comedy experience that no one should miss out on!

Pros: Great headliners, fun enviornment, yummy food, location

Cons: drink prices

You know those people who stop you in the street to ask, "Do you like comedy?" They don't come from this club. Carolines has the longest history in the city, and uses its friendships with comics rather than street barkers to fill its showroom. I've been to three shows here, and they usually have a good mix of New Yorkers, bridge and tunnelers, and tourists.

Heads up: There's a two drink minimum here, which is common for clubs in the city. If you're going to get hit with a charge though, at least they have a full bar!

First time back at Caroline's in 3 years tonight, to see John Mulaney, and wow, have things gone downhill.

1) We booked a dinner reservation and had a personal pizza, a hamburger, two appetizers, dessert, and 4 sodas. Came to $85 - high, but not ridiculous for New York. The food, however, was horrible. The pizza was undercooked (sent back / came back in same state), the dessert (a banana split) was flavorless (like the ice cream had gone stale), and the hamburger was a hockey puck. Essentially, we paid $85 for our appetizers and 4 sodas. Oh well, onto the show

2) Bad vibes from the start - Carolines is is cramped (always was), but now, is kept ridiculously hot. It felt about 77 degrees inside - and the room was only at 3/4 capacity.

3) The server staff was also ridiculously intrusive. At other comedy clubs, they look for breaks between sets or in the material. Here, our server started discussion with us right in the middle of a bit.

4) Finally, and worst: The show cover charges are EXTREME. My wife and I had the 4 drink minimum - 2 coffees, 2 sodas. The bill? $72! When we asked the server for an itemized bill, she told us the register 'didn't print those'. When we asked if we'd been charged for the souvenir glasses, she said 'no, they don't have those anymore' (though they're offered for sale on the menu). We asked to speak to a manager - 'none is available'. So, not wanting to spend our lives there, we paid and left.

In short, with dinner, the cover charges, and the show tickets ($54) - we paid around $211 - for about 1.5 hours of comedy, watery non-alcoholic drinks, and bad food. Ripoff. We wont be going back - ever.

Pros: Good talent pool

Cons: Ridiculous drink prices, bad service, horrible food

.

I have to start with the quality of the comedians. Caroline's consistently works to bring on good headliners, the mc's (like Hadiyah Robinson) are funny and keep the show moving, and they pair good up & coming comics to keep the show going.
The food isn't anything special, but it's standard bar fare.
The drink selection is pretty broad. The prices aren't terrible, but it's not cheap.
I had tickets in advance, but I imagine going without pre-bought tickets would not be a fun experience.
I didnt find the service particularly outstanding, but the servers do have a monumental task ahead of them given how many tables they handle.
I'd suggest asking for your check early so you dont have to wait with all the other tables at the last second (or bring cash).

Pros: awesome comedians, laughs

Cons: price of drinks, buy tickets in advance

It was very nice even though a tad expensive. Loved the comedians especially David "The Voice" Stein and Jimmy Hammer. They Rocked!

we stood in line for an 1and 1/2 for the 12:30 show to see paul mooney. They then turned the outside lights off on a sizeable line of people, after the doorman joked with us for 20 minutes about how we would get in , in a few minutes. The couple in front of us had been waiting since 10:30 . They were sent away and told to come back at 12:00. The couple behind us had a reservation. Needless to say none of us got in. I understand that clubs get crowed and shows sell out. However one should be decent enough to come outside and tell the people on line, rather than just turning off the outdoor lights. I T t was only after we got off line and asked that we were told the show was sold out. This was my first time coming to carolines, and with such horrible customer service. I doubt that I will ever return. I would recommend attending comix instead, I've been to that comedy club, and they treat customers alot better.

I went there for my birthday. Really enjoyed myself, although you are packed in at the tables. Remember this is NYC. The food was good, there is a two drink minimum. The wait staff was great, very friendly I thought. To top my evening of a celebrity literally bumped into me. I would recommend Caroline's to my friends.

I went with a friend to see Sinbad in Juli 2008. We never made it to see the show. The show was supposed to start at 10.30 pm. We were told to be there at 9.30 pm. We were on time and ended up waiting outside for over an hour until they started to let people in. It was the most disorganized mess I've ever experienced. We ended up waiting again crowded in between very unhappy diners. The staff was not exactly friendly either. After waiting in line for almost 2 hours, besides having reservations, we were quite unhappy and in no mood for comedy any more and left. Never again.

Paul Mooney is the preeminent Nobel Comedian Laureate of the past, present and future. I have laughed so hard because of his comedic timing, expression, subject matter and delivery my face hurt. He's a must see.

Two drink minimum, but the first drink might take an hour to get to you. The wait staff does not care. The seating is half empty - cause I guess theyre out of favour - with the talent I saw its not hard to understand.

I went there to see D'Vora Najee and some other new talent--they were all great, and worth the price. But the service was terrible. We didn't get a first drink until half-way through the show. There seemed to be a wait staff of 3 for a packed house. They weren't serving food yet and we were starving. But the show was first rate. I'd go again. It probably helps to be among the first seated.

The Bright side: Caroline Comedy Club is known for having many great comedians pass through. However, I have to be a die hard fan to go there when I wish to really, really see someone I admire.

In my opinion, Caroline's is a bit over priced. The decor is mediocre - ok, granted. The 'hired help' is NOT the friendliest, and yes, I know this is New York, but NY is plentiful with friendly caring great people. You need to bring a pocket flash light to read the menus and your check. The tables and menus were somewhat sticky - yukkkk! You are forced (policy) to buy at least 2 drinks and they are well over priced. Ex: A glass filled to the top with ice and plain old cranberry juice is $4.00. So, in other words, if you have two glasses minimum - this actually only equates to one full glass (if u have ice that is), for $8.00.

The seats are TIGHT and tables are 4x4 for 2 people. The place is NOT the cleanliest and the set up sucks.

Keeping in mind, when going to 'tip' the waitress and waiter; try not to take anything out on them because of the establishment. You should always tip according to service, etc., but try not to hold the 'dark side' against them if they were friendly and doing their jobs to the best of their abilities.

None the less, if none of the above bothers you - then by all means; go to Carolines to see some really good comedians and laugh to your heart contents.

Overall the show was good from the host to the opening act to the headliner was funny! My only complaints were that the seating arrangements were rather tight. You can only order appetizers during the show and the food & drinks were kind of expensive! I spent $100 for four drinks, ceaser salad, buffalo wings, 4 shrimps!

For a place that upholds a two drink minimum, you would think that the waiter would have been more attentive. He got us one drink and then disappeared! By the time I could wave him over to order a second drink, the show was almost over! Then my friends and I had to gulp down the drinks and get out so they could seat for the next show.

What a joke, this reviewer must be a manager and not want to get introuble. Try the place yourself, but you will be disappointed. The comediennes are good, but had a really bad experiences with the staff.

The staff in general is the most courtious and joyful club. You always are greated with a smile and maybe a playful comment. And as in anyplace you will be held to be seated but only because it was worthwhile. You get to meet and great the comedians upon permision. If you dislike the club then it was because you have no sense of humor or lack of enthusiasium. I highly recommend this club to anyone who knows how to have a good time and laugh. How dare anybody say anything negative about Caroline's obviously they are tourist or stuck up. Keep up the good job!

First, the staff was super rude. From the moment we called to make reservation, we were treated badly. Kepted on hold for over ten minutes. Disconnected twice. When we got there it was worse. The waiters and managers were very rude, found out the only way you can get a good seat is to bribe the manager. My friend ordered food. It took forever (over 45 minutes for a basket of French fries!!!!!!) and when she finally got them they were cold, when we tried to send them back (the show was almost over) we got an attitude from everyone including the manager. Big waste of money.

A very disappointing experience. The only good thing is that they showcase famous people. The bad.. a laundry list: Big place that lacks intimacy, showy shows that cater to tourists who dont know any better, really terrible food (the worst chicken wings Ive EVER tasted), staff that keeps on pestering you to buy two drinks, overpriced food and drinks, and an overall feeling that the establishment all about getting your money, not about you having a good time. They will not consider a meal towards the 2-drink minimum. The chutzpah!

You walk out with an uneasy feeling that you just got screwed. DO NOT GO THERE. As long as they keep their bad attitude and rip-off policies, you should avoid them. Ive been there once, and that was enough. I will never return there again. I frequent other comedy clubs, and this was just terrible. I can't believe it got a 8.9 rating. AVOID GOING TO CAROLINES.

I went to Caroline's last night to have dinner and then see a show. The dining room servers were unprofessional. We ordered from 4 different waiters throught the course of our meal. The food is incredibly overpriced for the quality. I had read bad reviewes of their food so I figured I'd go with pizza- usually safe. Bad choice. The $12 pizza was cold, greasy, limp and undercooked. I could feel my arteries clogging as I choked it down. Our party was not served at the same time. The first person recieved their meal 25 minutes before the last person.

I went there to see John Pinet, who was awesome. The two opening comics were very funny too. The theatre was very understaffed- 15 minutes to get a drink.

I would recommend eating and having cocktails elsewhere before seeing any comic at Carolines. Don't be left broke and disappointed!

I went to Carolines to Brian Regan perform. I wasn't impressed with Brian Regan that night and the comedy club was just ok. I felt like it was a little disorganized getting people to their seats. The way the seats are set up is uncomforable if you are in the back on the side. Just felt like I could never get comfortable! I would probably go back and give it another shot with a different performer!

Caroline's is well known for its celebrity comics who stop in to work on their material. The cover charge is very high and that is in addition ot a two drink minimum. Sure, once you're in you'll have a good time, but you have to shell out a pretty hefty fist of cash to get there. All things considered, it is cheaper than most of the things to do around that area. So it's probably not a waste of your money, but there are less expensive ways to hear stand up.

The place itself is very nice, and the staff is friendly, however I think that this place is way overpriced. The comics are not as funny as I thought they would be. I think you would be better off going to another comdey club and paying less money. The food is ok, but not at all worth the price you have to pay. Also we had a very long wait. I would not like to go back to this place. But for someone with money to burn this might be the place for you.

This place is a tourist trap. Once they have you inside the hard part of their day is over. The staff is rude, slow and lazy! The showroom is advertised as large but in reality everyone is sitting on top of one another, it's hard to eat or drink without hitting someones elbow next to you.
They feature good comedians, BUT the atmosphere is so horrible it's IMPOSSIBLE to enjoy the show!
Don't waste your money or your time.

This can be an excellent alternative to a broadway show or the usual midtown sightseeing... it's worth watching the latest acts. The headliners are wonderful, and I've always enjoyed the opening acts for the top comedians here as well. They have a great variety of acts so there's something for each comedy taste.

The 2 drink minimum and cover usually isn't too bad--and the drinks aren't bad either. The decor, at times, does seem like something out of a 70s game show--but I guess that's post-Disney Broadway for you!

My first time at Caroline's was last night to see Paul Mooney. I enjoyed the atmosphere.. Although the seating was close which is typically to most cubs, everyone as relaxed and coridal. That might have to do with the drinks which were well worth the money. I'm from Philly and I've already have spread the word to my freinds it's worthh the two hour trip!

If you enjoy comedy, bring enough money for the 2-drink minimum and see both famous comics and newcomers alike. All different styles of comedy...something for everyone!

Carolines is the premier comedy club in New York City. All the top comedian perform here, and they have a variety of entertainment. You have to make reservations because the place gets crowded. It's kind of expensive, but its worth the price. There's a 2 drink minimum, but the drinks are pretty good. The club serves food too which isn't bad. It's a nice sized comedy club and I have a good time everytime I come.

Do not even bother making reservations. We had reservations for a 10:30pm show. We got there at 9:45pm and was told at 10:45 that is was sold out and that we could not get in. After talking to the MGT.(which was a waste of time) he told us that we needed to be there by 10pm in order for the reservation to still be valid. Like I said before, I was there at 9:45. They over book the place and have no problem with it. I would not go here unless you really want to see a specific comedian.

Pros: good performers

Cons: reservations, $4soda, workers are mean

Caroline's is a great time if you love comedy clubs, and want to make it a special night. I saw D.L. Hughley there and him along with others were hilarious! Plus the environment is SO clean and nice. And for anyone who frequents comedy clubs, you'll find it spacious compared to others. The only downfall is it's pricey, but it's ok, because you're treated/seated in a better fashion than other cheaper clubs.

Pros: Environment, Comedians

Cons: Pricey, Drinks- STRONG

Second time to Carolines, this time to see Dave Atell. Had made reservations two weeks in advance and still got bad table towards the back of the place. Service is horrible. Drinks take forever and the servers never speak. Unless they have a super comedian, will not go back.

It started off by us getting seated at a crap-crap-crappy table. We were a little late so I can't blame them for that. However, I can blame them for the rest. The service was lousy! THe waitresses would drop things off the table an just leave them there, drop the food ont eh table and walk away, not follow up on anything. The food stunk too. Cold "Fried Cheese" and cold Calamari with sause that had a metallic taste. There were soo many people there that were completely wasted. OK, OK, it is a comedy club I know, but still there were so many people there that were so drunk they could barely stand, but sure could manage to SLAM into you while trying to walk out of the place. I have no desire to go back here unless it is for a really good comic.

i visited times square for the first time a few weeks ago and we just happened to walk by carolines and their were plenty of seats available for the 12:30 a.m. show. the only problem was that they didn't seat us until about 1:30 a.m. but after seeing the show it was well worth it. it was the funniest live comedy show i have ever seen. but there is a two drink minimum so make sure you have enough money to drink and tip your waitress.

After having a horrible dining experience somewhere else, we were desperate for an evening of comedy. We weren't disappointed! The opening guy (can't even remember his name) was so-so...but Kevin Meaney was much better. It was actually Tom Pappa, (sp?) the comic before Meaney, who was hilarious...Staff was friendly and service was quick, even if we were sandwiched in like sardines...

it's really in a class on it's own...
great convenient location and the only option of seeing big names in the comedy world in an intimate setting. Pretty cool venue as well..unlike most bar room settings - you can bring a date here!

Pros: Really GOOD shows, Atmosphere, Convenient

This famed comedy club is a favorite space for veteran stand-up comics. The roster of past performers includes "Saturday Night Live" cast members and sitcom regulars--Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chapelle, Janeane Garofalo and Anthony…
