Visited SAMMY's today and must say the ambiance is great the food is incredible but the waiter by the name of JEFFREY made us feel not welcomed. Did not have his name tag on like his co-workers, wonder why? Would go there again but not

Visited Sammy Yesterday for the first time and I just had to say I had a fantastic meal and the staff was so nice. It was my son's sixteenth birthday and they couldn't do enough for us..I can't wait to go back.

Ambiance Is Great. Food & Drinks even better.. My wife and I had cocktails and dinner at Sammy's on City Island a few days ago and as always we were very happy with the experience. The Restaurant has been around since the 60's and looks like it opened yesterday. This is a fun place. I am the 3rd generation of my family going to Sammy's and were working on the 4th..

I am not a great letter writer but I just had to say that I recently dined at Sammy's on City Island and had a fantastic evening. The staff and food were five star as well as the decor was so cool, I felt like I was eating at one of those great feeling Disney theme restaurants. I must add that my wife and I shared a 5lb lobster that was the best I ever had.

We were a party of 20 and purposely ordered 20 different appetizers and 20 different entrees as is the custom when our club eats out.. I just could not believe it that this was the first time after meeting at countless restaurants over the last 5 years that every single dish was a winner. What a great restaurant, Sammy's is on the top of our list. We are all planning to have another meeting there next month..This will be the first time we have return to a restaurant for our club meeting..

I am a huge BBQ fan since my college days in Austin Texas. Last week my friend invited me to dinner up on City Island at Sammy's Fishbox. I would have rather gone to a BBQ place but since I was a guest it wasn't my choice.. To my surprise Sammy's had the best Baby Back Ribs I have ever eaten, They were succulent and tender off the bone. I had a Rib and whole lobster combination that was so good. The restauarant had a wonderful vibe as well, can't wait to go back..

I first came here in the 1980's but haven't been back because I now live out of state. Went back this weekend with some guests and it's every bit as good as ever. My favorite is the fried combination platter, with one serving you can eat yourself to overflowing and still take home enough for a full meal for another day. The reason you come here is for large portions of great tasting fresh seafood, what else is there to say? Sure the entrees run $35 - $40 but you get what you pay for. I've never met anyone who's been here, who didn't want to go back again and again. And the valet parking is free.

One the worst restaurant experiences I ever had. The food was not good at all. I ordered the fillet of sole and boy was that a mistake.the batter they use is pretty bad. My daughter threw up in a disgusting bathroom half way through the meal. she had the crab legs with the shell steak. The waiter was nice but never around. I felt like I was being robbed when I had to pay the ridiculously over priced bill.\n Giving this place 5 stars is a complete joke !!

Sammy's is the best seafood restaurant in New York. The whole Lobster Newburg was simple but awesome tasting. The huge portion of fresh grilled fish of the day is a bargain, but the crab legs are the absolute best! Decor and service is really funky and cozy,

I love seafood and when we go out my husband and I always go seafood. I don't know of any other restaurant that that matches the quality and portion size that Sammy's affords us. I love Fresh fish and they have a daily list of at least 12 types of fresh fish. they recently had artic char, a fish I never had before, it was fantastic. I had it cajun style. My husband and daughter shared one of Sammy's famous Crab feasts, . It was enough for us to have for dinner the following evening.\nI highly recommend this restaurant if you love fresh seafood, giant portions and a fun staff, who always treats us right.\n

I went here for new years eve and was pleasantly surprised. Food was great. and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The large crackling fireplace was warm and inviting . I can't wait to return. It was a real surprise finding such a wonderful restaurant on City Island in the Bronx..I am so glad I watched the movie City Island with Andy Garcia otherwise I would never have thought to visit City Island.

Always outstanding. The raw bar is a good as they get, supported by a great staff and very fresh seafood. I consistently rate the oysters, little necks as well as the Shrimp cocktail ""the best I've ever had"". I f you get there late, be prepared to wait. It's worth it.

..\r\nI love lobster especially the way they prepare and serve it at Sammy's Fishbox. I really love their Lobster combination plates I most enjoy the Whole lobster and baby back rib combo plate. I request a female lobster, because the tail has more meat than a male lobster. Then I ask that it be stuffed with crabmaet..wWow me getting hungry just thinking about it as I right this.\r\nSammy's a great spot. I ALWAYS RUN ITO FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHEN I AM THERE\r\n\r\n

When I moved to NYC a few years ago from Maine, Being a seafood lover, I tried at least 50 seafood restuarants in the five boro's and none of them warranted a return visit except Sammy's on City Island. My wife Julie and I go to Sammy's at least once a week religiously..The food is stupendous and the staff treat us like royality..especially Leslie and Steve ,,My favorite dish is the !/2 of 3lb lobster stuffed with crab meat..Julie always tries a new dish and is always delighted with her choice..\r\nI highly recommend a trip to Sammy's..

What a bust!\r\n\r\nDo people actually go to this place?\r\n\r\nI have had plenty of very good dining experiences on City Island, and decided to try Sammy's during the off season.\r\n\r\nDo people go here because parking is convenient and it's easy to get a seat? I can't see why else you would.\r\n\r\nThe service, while not terrible, was not very helpful. Our waiter could not answer many of the questions we had (are the chicken fingers real chicken or grounded, do you have Guinness). There was a language barrier.\r\n\r\nWe were seated right away, which was nice...until we sat.\r\n\r\nThe seats dip down like you're in a bucket seat of a nascar. I could not have been further away from the person across from me, which means we had to talk loudly. \r\n\r\nThe seats are also very flimsy. The person seated in the booth behind me was drunk and moving around--making it feel similar to an earthquake. \r\n\r\nDrinks were next: Waiter said there was no sparking wine, so we went with Pinot Grigio (which we later found out was $9 dollars a glass and tasted awful).\r\n\r\nI don't mind spending $9 dollars a glass, but not for some awful place in the Bronx. \r\n\r\nI ordered a guinness, and was served a guinness extra stout. No biggie, I don't mind extra stout, but for someone who does, a heads-up would be nice.\r\n\r\nSoup was next. I went to City Island primarily for my hankering for lobster bisque. What I got was puzzling: A big bowl of what tasted and looked like velveeta chese, without much of a hint of lobster to be found.\r\n\r\nFrom that point on, the meal was pretty much ruined.\r\n\r\nThe clams were O.K.\r\n\r\nThe bill did not help matters. We came in just after 3 and they would not make anything off of the lunch menu, which makes a seafood dinner menu tough for kids and land-lovers. No sandwiches at all would be made, but they conveniently said they would do chicken fingers and fries.\r\n\r\nThe chicken fingers and fries came out 20 dollars! Without telling us the price before hand or having it on the menu.\r\n\r\nWorst meal I've ever had. No doubt about it. STAY AWAY!

Honestly I must have ordered the wrong meal last night...got the lobster tail and filet mignon...the filet mignon was dry and flavorless, the lobster tail was a nice sized portion, good but not great. Fried calamari for appetizer was rubbery and lacked flavor; I've definitely had better. My diet coke with lemon honestly tasted like Windex with sugar. Worst of all was the cockaroach crawling above my right shoulder on the booth wall. The best part of my meal was the salad, the fresh bread and when we got the check (waste of $$$ but hey you live and learn). \r\n\r\nNow maybe I'm comparing apples to oranges, I've had melt in your mouth steak at places like Blackstone in Melville. I expected my steak to be better than what I had last night, which I would compare to frying up and eating a Timberland boot.\r\n\r\nA neon sign in front of the kitchen said ""World's Finest"". Really?? I don't think so.\r\n\r\nDefinitely a thumbs down, am not returning here.\r\n\r\n*************************************************************I am back and HAD TO edit my review: BOTH my friend and I have been sick all day - they served a vegetable antipasto, which my friend said was ""piss warm"" served over ice. I don't know if it was that, or the water used to wash the salad - I had to take 4 teaspoons of Mylanta just to start feeling better!! At first I thought it was just me, but he suffered the same exact symptoms.\r\n\r\nDon't know if we just had a bad night, but with the roach (my wife was shocked that I didn't walk out the second I saw it, as I am suprised at myself as well), the fact it took a LONG time for our food to come out....as I write this my stomach is curdling and I am getting myself more upset. \r\n\r\nI am reading these reviews to my wife and she is starting to get sick. How anyone can give this place, generously speaking now, more than 3 stars, taking into account you have poor taste, is BEYOND me. This was a complete waste of our money, would not walk back into this sh**hole if you paid me. If I could give this place negative stars I would!!!!

My uncle and I were making plans for my grandparent's and grandfather's birthday weekend celebration (May 16th and 18th). He mentioned to me about Sammy's last year because it had great seafood, but the prices were a bit steep. He and a group of friends went before and had food leftover because the portions were so big. It sounded so good, when he mentioned it again I thought it was a good idea. My grandparents very seldom go out to new places and this would be a good excuse. \n\nMy mother and I surprised them that weekend and I told them where we were going. They too were excited to eat there. When we got there the place was packed from the door to the host stand. Let me say when I put our name on the list I didn't have to wait extremely long either. I was seated in less than 30 minutes (if that) and was greeted shortly there after by the floor manger (a nice woman who checked on us throughout the night). \n\nWhen I saw the menu I damn near choked. I couldn't get over so many options and I decided to go for Maryland crabackes (large and plentiful the whole table ate off of them), a small salad before the meal, pasta on the side, shrimp scampi and crab legs. LORD THAT WAS THE BEST SEAFOOD MEALL I HAD IN A LONG TIME!!!! Not only was the food hot and fresh, the crab legs came with a some type of coating on them, the shrimp scampi was done very well, and I had plenty to take back home with to Maryland. The rest of family dined on large meals as well. My grandfather ordered the Snapper stuffed with crabmeat and it looked scrumptious. \n\nWhat made the night so special was the complimentary two glasses of champagne for my grandparents anniversary and a slice of red velvet cake. My server, her name is Dorian (hope she is still there and someone sees this), was excellent. She stayed on top of everything and took our orders promptly and correctly. \n\nI recommend this place to anyone who wants good seafood

Was looking for a good seafood restaurant, some one recommened Sammy's, went there for a friend and mine birthday, It was outstanding, the service was good and even though the line was out the door and around the corner it did not take long to be seated, and the food, all I can say is go prepared to eat and have a good time. The portions was ridiculous and very tasty. If you are a seafood lover go here you can not go wrong. This is my new fav restaurant, this place makes red lobster look like mcdonalds.

Sammys always has very fresh fish and giant Lobsters to die for. They also give complimentary salad and breads, cheese and more giant portions of fantastic Seafood and tender juicy steaks at fair prices. I never leave without tomorrows dinner in my doggie bag My family and I have loved going to Sammys for more years than I care to say.\r\n

I was dragged to Sammys by a friend of mine who lives on City Island. All I could think was, ?Another Bronx restaurant?? I assumed the service would be bad and the food bland and boring?. I was so wrong!! Sammys is now my favorite seafood restaurant in the city. I had a 2lb female lobster, it was cooked to perfection; it literally melted in my mouth! My friend had the Rib-Eye steak (it was huge!) which was buttery and served with a giant baked potato. All I have to say about dessert is, get mile high chocolate cake. \r\n\r\n

Sammy's presents a stylish, warm ambiance and a exciting culinary experience. I have been a regular since I first discovered the place last April. I been back at least 8 times since and every visit has been a 10. I've tried many different dishes...all great.\r\nRge only draw back is the wait in the weekend, but once your seated a nd dine you'll find it was well worth the wait.

I love seafood especially lobster, so when I dine out I go to seafood restaurants. I tried them all in the big apple, but none compare with Sammy's Fishbox on City Island in the Bronx....yes the Bronx.\r\nIf your like me and love great seafood, go and order a 3lb female lobster stuffed with shrimp.\r\nit will blow you away...

I love seafood especially lobster, so when I dine out I go to seafood restaurants. I tried them all in the big apple, but none compare with Sammy's Fishbox on City Island in the Bronx....yes the Bronx.\r\nIf your like me and love great seafood, go and order a 3lb female lobster stuffed with shrimp.\r\nit will blow you away...

.

This was my first time in the Bronx and my first time on City Island. My date suugested this place and to tell you the truth I was a little disappointed I had wanted to go into Manhattan for a great seaffood dinner. But was he right.\r\nThis restaurant serves the best Lobster and steak I have ever eaten. The restauarant was beautiful and the fireplace was roaring. Its actually better than any seafood meal I ever had in the City.. I am looking forward to going back to try other dishes....

One block from the end of City Island you will find the best Seafood restaurant. One of the warmest and coziest restaurants I was ever in. The seafood is special. Fantastic service, every time. The cocktail menu is worthy of note -- very creative drinks of all varieties -- so tempting especially the Mojitos it makes you want to try them all. \r\nThe food is so good here; you may want to come back several times so that you can try them all. :) \r\nThis is my favorite seafood restaurant, for all of the reasons mentioned above. \r\nThe food and cocktails here are creative and fantastic, yes, but the ambiance is simply the best in the Bronx. A dining experience includes both food and ambiance, to my mind an unbeatable combination. I had a 3lb female lobster stuffed with crabmeat that was to die for\r\n\r\nPros:decor, food, cocktails \r\nCons: very busy\r\n

If you looking for service you get at a 80 seat city Bistro then this isn't the place for you, but if your looking for a happening restaurant then Sammy's on City Island is the one. I was over whelmed by the size of my dishes and the quality off the food. I just don't know how they do it. I had a seafood meal that was far and away the best I ever had. I grew up in Boston the home of great New England seafood and can't think of a meall I had back than that comes close to my dinner at Sammy's this past saturday night...I can't wait to go back

Went to Sammy's in December, 2009 and really enjoyed the food and service. On Fri., 9/10/10, the family wanted to go out for a seafood/fish dinner and everyone agreed on Sammy's. What a disappointment!!!!!! Bluefish, red snapper and halibut were all coated with something which cannot be described except to say it was like tasteless bread crumbs soaked in grease (I think it was supposed to have been scampi sauce). It had to be scraped off before we could begin to eat. The baked potato was edible but tough. The best thing we received was the bread. Considering the prices, we should have gotten better. Additionally, the environment needs to be maintained; the carpet was not clean. We won't be going back! We would have enjoyed a fish sandwich at McDonalds better.

The service was good, and friendly.\r\nThe decor was fun, interesting, and clean.\r\n\r\nThe food was terrible. I love raw oysters, but these were completely tasteless. I've never had oysters that were anywhere near as bland as these. Same with the two different chef's specials we had. They were supposed to be cooked in a scampi sauce. It must have been the only scampi sauce totally devoid of garlic.Or taste of any kind. The portions were enormous, I suppose to justify the high price. But I could barely get down a third of the tasteless dish. The bread was good. The olives were good (though not plentiful). The baked potato was all right. I had a taste of the linguini with clam sauce. It seemed ok.

I went there with my family on 5/16/10 Sunday approximately after lunch and before dinner . We were on line to be seated and the Hostess take one look at us and did not even give us a smile as in I will be with you shortly or I will seat you soon, she just look and continue her business as if we were not standing there. About 10-minutes wait, she took us to the front of the resturant and then brought us back to the middle of the resturant, she did not know where we were supposed to be seated. She then put us in the middle of the resturant and the chairs was too crowded could not even fit everyone. I don't know if she does not know how to count. Anyhow we ask for another table and problems seem to arise the other spanish looking hostess told my brother-in-law that we can leave if we want to because they cannot seem to find another seat, well that just got my him so angry and piss off. However we calm down and was seated at the back. The waiter was very nice but acted too busy to LISTEN. I think the staff should act like their job are important and they are not working at a fast food resturant. I would not recommend this resturant for a family, may be just a couple but NOT FOR FAMILY. Too Crowded and TOO BUSY STAFF. We spend over $600 on our dinner and certainly should have been treated with a little more skilled staff, NO COMPLAINS ON THE FOOD, GREAT TASTE********* BUT HORRIBLE STAFF.

I have to admit for 1st time for me to go to City Island and trying Sammy's I was not disappointed. However, I did not care for traffic, you definitely need a lots of patience. But I got there I was seated with no wait ( I went there at 5pm to avoid large crowds), I was attended by friendly service. Very nice atmosphere. I like the place. I wish it was located somewhere more easier to get to. It is such a nice restaurant located in not so nice neighborhood. It's very overcrowded island with not much more than eateries. I would definitely like to visit there again, if it was much easier to get to and less traffic. Price is little high, but they give you plenty of tasty food, price is justified by the amount of food and good taste. I recommended it for who like to eat large portion of great seafood and does not mind driving long way in slow traffic..

I must have been to a completely different Sammy's. All these reviews are nothing like our experience. Five stars? really? expensive, overpriced, and very crowded, our group was seated at the most cramped table in the middle of the restaurant. The waiter who couldn't even understand us, was passing sodas down from person to person, because he couldn't reach the middle of the table, it was so packed. \n\nI don't get why this place was packed. I could think of more reasonably priced places to eat in the city. We had to go here cause our relatives live there, and we heard such rave reviews about Sammy's we figured it was a sure thing.\n\nNot a pleasant dining experience at all. Avoid avoid avoid.

Pros: chicken parmigiana for $20, cheapest dish on menu!

Cons: crowded and unpleasant

I love great steak as well as great seafood, however it is almost impossible to find a restaurant to satisify both needs.. But I did find one on City Island, Sammy's fishbox. I ordered a steak and maine lobster surf & turf. It was incredible the losbster was tender, full and sweet and the steak was cut with a fork tender and delicious..I highly recommed this place..a real surprise but one I can't wait to repeat.

took my mom here for lunch this past Wednesday, never been to City Island before. Was so impressed with the food here! I read some bad reviews about how it's overrated (from yelp) but I didn't think so at all! They had a twin lobster special for $30! And they were so fresh and SO well cooked! Each lobster was like 1.25 lbs, so def enough, when u also get a plate of salad, broccoli, yellow rice, baked potato, and then the bread and veggie dish at the beginning. We only ordered the special from the menu tho so they charged an extra $5 for the single plate charge. Still worth it tho cuz the sides are excellent and couldn't even finish them!! I will definitely be coming back, but just wish I could try more things! Everything looks so good, menu selection is huge. Free parking lot and great service from the staff too!

We visited Sammy's this past Monday evening. The restaurant was busy, with an animated atmosphere. We were greeted at the door, and seated promptly on time for our reservation. Our server, Bud, was attentive and friendly and provided some great menu recommendations. The carb cakes and the baked clams were both great. Our dinner was accompanied by some the yankee game on a huge flat screen TV, . We never felt rushed during dinner. We left more than satisfied with our meal - the restaurant provided a great mix of quality, service, and value. We'll certainly be back.

My wife and I have gone to Sammy's a few times. We usually go there on special occasions. I have never had a problem with it. The food is super excellent, service is awesome, ambiance is lovely. The pricing is a little steep, but it's well worth it.\r\nI especially enjoy the martini's. They have such a variety, you'll never get bored.\r\n

The seafood is the tops in the Bronx and beyond, as far as I am concerned, huge portions of super fresh and delicious food. Lot of freebees as well, including a free menu for my kids, which certainly hepls in these trying times. But I would go to Sammy's anyway even if nothing was free, The place rocks and I love it.

It was a little less busy and they waitress was so sweet. The food was just about the most amazing thing i have ever had.

We had expected a bit of a tourist trap, but were greatly surprised. Everything, including the service, was first rate. I had a 3 lb Maine lobster steamed to perfection. My partner had halibut which was as fresh as could be. We had to wait about ten minutes for our 8:30 Friday night reservation.
