This is a great bookstore. It has a great independent feel, but it has great prices and nice cafe located in the back of the store as well. The staff is very helpful.

Coliseum Books is the New York independent answer to chains such as Barnes and Noble. A large sprawling store with an awesome selection of new books. They also have a nice cafe and are convinenetly located across the street from the mail branch of the New York Public Library system. A nice place to shop with good service.

Coliseum Books is probably the largest independent book seller left in New York that sells new books. They have a new large store across from Bryant Park and the crew that works there are all top notch book lovers. You can spend hours browsing if you are a book lover and the strange thing is when you realize how big the average Barnes and Noble is you realize how much they do not carry after shopping here.

They claim to have 100,000 different in print books in stock. I find it amazing that at any one time that many books are in print and it's great to be able to buy them from an independent book seller not a chain and support diversity.

Located across the street from Bryant Park Coliseum books has all the newest releases up front for you reading pleasure which are often on sale for 20% off. The store is fairly big and very well organized so its easy to find what youre looking for. Up front there are tables and seats next to the window so you can read and look outside at the same time. Book readings happen here fairly often so grab their newsletter for upcoming readings.

When Barnes and Noble started their expansion throughout the city many independent book stores went out of business. The survivors for the most part are specialty shops that can provide the knowledge about one particular subject. Coliseum is one of the few large wide ranging stores that is left. Sometimes I shop there as a matter of civic duty keeping choice alive even though they have pretty much the same selection as B &N.
