I would recommend another location. There are several other French Restaurants with staff and managers who are attentive and not full of themselves.

Pros: Not much

Cons: Rude Waitstaff

.

Had reservations at 9pm on a Saturday. Usually, I don't eat this late but that was the only time available. It was my 1 year wedding anniversary so it was worth the wait. When I arrived, I had to wait about 10 mins or so. I was placed at the very first table on the left, near bar. Wasn't ideal as I wanted something in the back but took what was available. The menu was fairly small. We picked the price fix at $89. Had great foie graus as appetizer. Melted in my mouth! Main course was the lobster and monkfish. Not the best lobster I ever had but was very good. Was made in a light cream pea sauce. Had frog legs for the very first time and it was amazing!! great seasoning, light (italian style). My wife ordered a salad. Was very surprised on the portion. Huge! for a salad and very tasty. She ordered the steak. Wasn't impressed really. Too chewy. The portions overall are very small (as all French food is served) so I was expecting small portions. Don't come here starving. Eat a late lunch at least or a snack prior. Wasn't crazy about the dessert. Ordered just ice cream. Couldn't do the cake/pasteries. I ate too much bread! The little breads they give you are very declious! The service was right on. This is definitely a place to bring your wife or girlfriend for a romantic nite. The restaurant seemed more cater to bigger crowds as a lot of the tables were made for groups of 6 or more. Much older crowd (I think me and my wife were the youngest). Very classy, elegant. My only complaint was that it was a bit stuffy in there. Elbow touching close! A little too close for my taste. That was the table I was in. At least no one on the other side, just a mirrored wall. I wish we could of sat towards the back but it was late and I was hungry so I was not going to be picky. Overall, great atmosphere. Very pricey so won't expect to come back here for quite some time! Also, be prepared to double tip! Waiter and Captain. If you are looking for romance and want to really take your time eating and don't mind spending a lot of money, this is your place! Average guys like me can't afford it but for a special occasion, it's worth it!

La Grenouille is one of my favorite restaurants in the city!! I have not been there in a while so my boyfriend and I decided to go last night for dinner. The entire experience was amazing. The staff really knows how to make you feel special. I had the split pea soup and the cheese souffl and both were delicious. I need to remind myself to come here more often!!!

This always has been and always been one of the finest French Restaurants in New York. Only beware if you have allergies to cut flowers (I do), because they are all over the place! The food is elegant and the service is subline. For special occasions as it is pricey but if you love amazing French food in a gorgeous surrounding, book your reservation.

So it was my cousin's bachelorette dinner/weekend and they decided on an intimate meal here. It was highly recommended by one of her friends who also went.

The food is pricey but worth every bite! I ordered the lobster bisque appetizer and the braised duck breast as my main dish. The wine we had was excellent and the service was impeccable. Our wait staff was very attentive to all our needs. Needless to say, we tried many of the desserts and laughed ourselves silly with fantastic conversation.

Delicious food. I love French food and I applaud the head chef and the sommelier for their wonderful food/wine pairings. The restaurant is an excellent choice for an intimate gathering or an intimate night out in New York.

It has everything going for it: location, service, bustling ambiance, an ever evolving menu, an extensive wine list, and a very dedicated staff. To be able to open something at this level and in essence "own" all the parts of what makes a great restaurant great would be a heady undertaking. And one thing is for sure, the dishes are created and cooked with access to some of the best ingredients in the United States. Reserve well ahead, and as with many restaurants in New York?..

I have always been very anxious about French restaurants and formality. When my girlfriend told me that she wanted to go to La Grenouille and that I was obliged to wear a jacket I felt very uncomfortable. With the image of the after dinner, and a very happy girlfriend at the end, I decided to give it a shot. When we arrived at the restaurant it didn't take me to long to relax. The place is beautiful, very good food, and the prices are surprisingly not expensive for this kind of restaurant.

One of the best meals I've had in New York.

Went to dinner with my boss and two clients from Japan and the whole dining experience was impeccable...everything from the food to the service.

My table manners and etiquette shined that night.

Simply classy, graceful and almost perfect.

As perfect a dining experience as I've ever had--from the time I made the reservation on the phone until we walked out the door, we were treated as valued customers. Formal, but not at all cold or snobby. The sort of place where you know what to expect, you won't find a dish that falls flat on its face at La Grenouille. My companion and I ordered classics, the Dover sole and the frogs legs. The menu is not trendy, and I hope it never will be. Kudos to Masson for maintaining the high standards set by his father, after all these years.

We loved La Grenouille. Went there for a special family meal during the week to celebrate a promotion. We were made to feel like royalty with the white glove treatment from a very attentive staff. The visual from the florals, not to mention the aroma was just heaven. Everything was sumptuous.

we went for our annual special dinner with my wife. we had wanted to go to La Grenouille other years but we thought it would be very stuffy. we were pleasantly suprised all the staff was very friendly we decided to go for the pre theater menu which is about half of the the regular pre fixe. it has a limited selection, my wife a plate of mixed cold appetizer which was very nice i had a salad, she had the calves liver very tender and flavorfull i had the cod which was vey good all the different flavors melding perfectly for dessert we had one of the soufles and i had the oeufs la neige( floating islands )classic french dessert...we will go back again and it will be for lunch same price as the pre theater but more choices.
the only negative i can say is that there are alot of supplement on the menu such as the soufles, this is a french restaurant..... try it for lunch or the pre theater..enjoy

I went with my mother to this restaurant for a pre-theater meal and was thoroughly disappointed. The food was quite possibly the worst meal I've had in New York. It reminded me of eating at my university dorm. What was worse was that the restaurant was nearly empty and our every move was being watched by a slew of waiters. The sleazy head waiter kept loading extra food on us only to ask for a head waiter tip on top of the regular waiter tip at the end of the meal. How tacky is that? We have to tip for hospitality??? I've been to plenty of great French restaurants in NYC and France and this place poses as a French restaurant. PLEASE save yourself and do not go here!!!!!

I took my mother to La Grenouille for her birthday last week. She was so impressed by the restaurant and was so excited when i took her there. The first thing that we noticed was the fresh flowers everywhere. it smelled like i walked into a garden. I had the beef and she had the cod. Everything was FANTASTIC. The wine lists was really extensive and being that my mother considers herself something of a wine connosiuer...she was impressed. Everything was wonderful, the staff was very attentive. they even wear white jackets!! I would absolutely reccomend this restaurant.

I have dined there a few times with my husband and our two daughters. Each time was better than the last. The food was superb, the ambiance (decor, flowers, lighting) gorgeous, and the service impeccable.

I consider it to be my favorite restaurant in NY City. I would love to revisit for my birthday in December - last year it was wonderful to dine there around the holidays!

I find the history of the building fascinating as well as the stories of old. Truly a dining adventure not to be missed if in the city.

This is definitely a special occasion spot, unless you don't mind a hefty bill, but rest assured that either way, it's well worth it. The great reviews certainly are there for a reason (and rightfully so). The dining room is always packed with fresh flowers; the smell is wonderful. The staff is very attentive and welcoming, and the waiters dance around you like their lives depend on it. As for the food, I suggest being brave and trying something you wouldn't normally eat. Sure, their steak is delicious, but when people around you order the oxtail, kidneys, or calf's liver, you'll be sorry you weren't more experimental (I made this mistake). Even though I was VERY happy with my steak, after trying the different dishes from others at my table, I wish I had opted for something more unique. This was truly an awesome dining experience.

While the romantic attraction is as strong as ever, the presentaion of food is heading in the direction of a a neigbhorhood diner. For me the appeal of French food is that is is as pretty to look at as is it delicious to eat. Not the case any longer. The presentation is ordinary, and grossly lacking in creativity. All in all though, the experience is still a special one.

I've been going to this restaurant for years and it never fails to amaze me. The food is always excellent, the souffle perfectly done!
I would recommend this place for couples because it is very romantic with the fresh flowers and beautiful colors in interior.
The only improvement advise I might have for this place is that please get some internal wiring for the pretty lamps placed on each table. The wires hanging from the lamps and running down to the floor might cause a hazard for customers who are not careful. Aside from that, the restaurant provides well-trained, unobtrusive service.
Tasteful and classy. No French attitude. The staff is friendly. Go to this restaurant with your loved one.

La Grenouille is an elegant dining experience for French cuisine in Manhattan. Food is delicate and very tasty. Prix fix menu offers traditional French delicacies and innovative combinations. One of the best qualities of this restaurant is it's amazing flower arrangements with a fresh and seasonal look.

I noticed that the tables are too close to each other for a quiet and romantic evening. You can't help but the hear the conversations from neighboring tables and if you need to get up from your banquet seat, which is nice to be seated next to your partner, you would require the assistance of a server to pull the table. The other issue is quiet an obvious one which the cost of the meal. I guess being in Manhattan and dining in a French Landmark you would need to get a small loan from your credit card company which is justified

This is break bank expensive but the memory will last a life time. The service is outstanding, not stuffy or snooty. We were greated and were led to one of the best areas of the restaurant. Celebrating a mile stone, this place was perfect. The food is good, I had a steak and while it was good, it wasn't exceptional but it came prepared to my specifications. The dessert is fabulous. We were very welcomed here and would go back again.

ON A RECENT REVISIT OVER THANKSGIVING 04', WE WERE SURPRISED TO FIND THE BEAUTIFUL FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS MISSING. HOWEVER, WE WERE PLEASED THAT WE STILL FOUND WHAT IS SIMPLY THE BEST FRENCH FOOD ON THE PLANET, IN A JEWELBOX OF A LOCATION, INCREDIBLE AMBIANCE, EXTRAORDINARY WINE, WITH WARM AND IMPECCABLE SERVICE. PRICEY, BUT WELL WORTH THE INDULGENCE. THIS IS OUR FAVORITE, IT IS STILL NYC's FINEST RESTAURANT. PERIOD. GIVE IT A 9.9!!!

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant with a non-romantic friend. The Ambiance is lovely, despite not having a reservation we were lucky enough to be seated right away. The menu was pale of veg. entrees so our lovely French waiter had the kitchen prepare a special entree. One of the best meals I've had in New York next to Nobu. Our meal with entrees, salad and a glass of wine each was $80. w/out tip not bad given the quality.

we recently celebrated my wife's birthday here. we have been to various fancy restaurants in new york city and definitely this is one of the best restaurants we've been. to start of, the entire staff from the maitre d'hotel, captains and waiters were all warmly accommodating. the fresh flowers all over the place gives a noticeable and romantic ambiance. the food is very tasty. it was such a memorable experience and although it was a furious weather because of the blizzard nevertheless, its worth our travel.

La Genouille was fantastic, from start to finish. It is a great place to have a special occassion, or merely, a romantic evening. The management were aware of my plans and were extremely attentive all evening long, especially our waiter, who opened our bottle of champagne moments after I proposed..........I highly recommend this restaurant...conscious spenders beware!

Pros: Ambience, Knowledgeable Staff, Exquisite Cuisine

Cons: ---------------------, ---------------------, ---------------------

Besides the fact that my group needed to remind the Maitre-D to bring the sparkling water 3 times, my group was taken for a joy ride! When presented with the wine list, we asked what bottle is recommended, and took him up on his choice. In addition to the wine had a vinegar-like aftertaste, what they failed to mention was that the wine bottle cost over $600! This is in addition to their $100+ pre-fixes and extra cost for miscellaneous drinks and souffles. When a bill for a party of 6 surpasses the $1,300 mark, (and some of the patrons are still hungry afterwards), you know that youve been takes to the cleaners!

Cons: VERY expensive, Adequate Parking, Service

Let us start off with the Maitred. They really need to hire a new one. He was like a little girl. Just a bit too good for himself, but to be nice he was nothing but arrogant and disrespectful. Having said that, the place looked fantastic. The service was excellent. The food needed to be a little more in potion, but the taste was above average. I have had better, but not many. I would recommend this place to anyone. Just don't get annoyed at the front door.

For a restaurant of this caliber and reputation, I was a bit disappointed with the quality of service. Our party felt rushed to order, wine glasses were empty for some time before being refilled, we had to ask twice before getting someone to take our coffee order and our check was taken twice before we had a chance to even look at it. The food was OK - not as good as we expected. The atmosphere was very good - beautiful flower arrangements. Overall, I would not rush to return.

The menu is expensive, but the food is worth it! Traditional French cuisine at its best! Their frog legs are the best I've had in the United States, maybe even in France and I'm a French native so I should know! Their breads and butter are so tasty, you have to resist to the temptation of eating too much before the order arrives. Their desserts are also excellent: where else can you enjoy such a perfect "Ile flottante" (a light and airy classic French dessert of milk-poached egg whites over a creamy custard topped with caramel)? Everything is so good, it's hard to keep a little space for the delicious Petit-Fours served with coffee or tea. When I get really homesick for top classic French cuisine, my prescription is La Grenouille. The trick is to go for lunch instead of dinner, the prix fixe menu costs half as much.

I was so excited to go here until I was told the pre-fixe menu was something crazy like $95. When I was getting ready to spend a romantic dinner with my boyfriend I didn't realize I would be out of my league at this restaurant. This was a place for the richest families, I mean, even 7 year old children were wearing suits and dresses. I do have to say the food was very good. I got the lamp chops which were mediocre but the Lagostinos that my boyfriend ate were delicious. I was a little disappointed by the service too. Our waiter ask us what kind of soufle we wanted and told us to get 2, making us believe that it was part of the pre-fixe, nope soufles are seperate and we were so full from dinner we could barely finish one. And I didn't find it that romantic.

I finally made it here. Very good food. Very friendly service. The air was filled with the smell of flowers. Just a note that the crowd is definitely older!

We wanted to go down "memory lane" and there we were dinning at La Grenouille! The service was horrific, waiters were so PUSHY! The frog legs were like small pieces of burned nuggets from a low and cheap fast food place. The clams were OVER salted. Our rack of lamb was not medium rare and had to be sent back. Wine was poured in our glasses by the waiters every 3 minutes......and worse....we had to pay a BIG bill.
