The last thing you need at 3am is a flame-broiled, half-pound burger. But you know you want one.

Corner Bistro, the last of the bohemian bars in West Greenwich Village, has been serving customers since the earlier part of this century. The original ambience is pretty much unchanged, and we like to keep it that way.

A classic tavern: During the day, delivery people on lunch break share space at the bar with smartly dressed neighborhood professionals. To avoid an overcrowded back room packed with baseball hat-wearing Village rovers, come early, while the sun is still streaming through the dusty windows. Besides cold beer and a full bar, the Bistro keeps its options simple. The burger--small, juicy and incredibly messy--is the best in the neighborhood and certainly among the very best in the city. Other options on the Spartan menu include chili, a BLT and a wonderfully marinated, jaw-stretching grilled chicken sandwich. Fries are always crisp and tasty.

Ratings_icons Great burgers!

Just plain god burgers and fries. Seating at lunch time is definitely tight, but you can usually find a spot at the bar.

Pros: food, cheap

Cons: seating

Ratings_icons Corner? Hell Yeah!

I have been a devoted Bistro regular for more than a year now because it's a bar, nothing more. These are the things any good bar should have: A great jukebox (check), a great bartender (Jeff's great, check), and great food (check). Nothing more, nothing less. Add to that ridiculously low prices (I've heard the owner owns the building and doesn't need to rake in the cash) and it's almost always worth a visit. The $2 glasses of McSorelys slip into the gullet like satin, and the crusty neighborhood regulars are always good for a laugh. That said, the worst thing about the Bistro is that it's ridiculously packed any time between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. I try to go there after I've been out for the night to top off my drunk. Anyhow, it's not for everyone, but those who like it will always return.

Pros: Food, Beer, Inexpensive

Cons: Packed, Small

Burger is fabulous, it's a heart attack on a plate but it is soo worth the wait, the hard to find location, and the cramped seating. CHeap beer, bistro burger is delicious and it is a smoking restaurant. i really can't complain.

Pros: bistro burger, yay smoking!, cheap beer

Cons: small, long wait, longlong wait

Ratings_icons Okey burger

Burger was better than the usual fast food and greek diner grub. But is it the best? No. I have no idea why people or posers think this is the best burger in NYC. The best burger I had was in the Upper Eastside cafe/ diner on Lexington Avenue on 64-65 street.

Ratings_icons When u just gotta have beef

The absolute best burger in Manhattan..my only gripe is that they dont offer cheddar cheeseburgers, only American for those who're picky like me. When you're really hungry, go for the Chiliburger..YUM

Pros: best burger, best value

Cons: very crowded

Ratings_icons solid burger joint

maryvon

really solid burgers, and they serve till 3 or 3:30 in the morning. waiter is slow, so order everything at once when you have a chance. in fact, double your drink order because you probably woin't get a chance to order a second time. actually, if there's a bar stool open, ust sit at the bar for the best service.

Pros: juicy big burgers, cheap cold beer

Cons: slow service

Ratings_icons Burger Brainwashing....

rickster

I think the owners of the corner bistro must be posting all these positive reviews...I can't believe how many people consider this place the creme de la creme of burger joints. I went once a couple of years ago and never had the desire to go back. I don't want to dis the place but they do not deserve to be so highly praised all the time. I am convinced it has something to do with the fact that people must get liquored up while they are there and the chef could fry some cat food and people would eat it up and applaud. All bar food tastes good after you have been drinking. Stop the insanity!

Ratings_icons If you don't like burgers

susanchenelle_citysearch

this is not your place. This may seem obvious, but for anyone likely to be dragged here by others, let me give you fair warning. Though I am told by many the burgers are good, there are no other charms to be found here. The non-burger menu items--grilled cheese, grilled chicken--are disappointing. And it's dark, dirty and frequented by cockroaches.

Pros: Good burgers

Cons: Dirty

Ratings_icons Nice and Dirty

I've seen cockroaches crawling the walls here more than once. I'm not complaining. I like the simplicity of the Corner Bistro. The menu is pretty much hamburgers. Cheese? Your choice yes or no but it's cheddar. That's it. French fries are strictly on the side. Corner Bistro does one thing and they do it right. The joint's reputation for a great burger is well-earned.

I always eat at the bar: a burger, fries and a pint of McSorley's. Always satisfying too.

Yeah, it's on a corner, but it's not your typical bistro--which is both its charm and its downfall. It's a fantastic little dive for a brew and a cheap burger, but NYC's best burger -- let alone the country's -- it is not. I've been to Louis' Lunch, I know.
