More up-scale than our usual bar, more of a restaurant than a bar. Two cuisines... one ori- and one occi-. The ribs side dish was REALLY GOOD. Not much of a beer selection, though they do have Anchor Steam (in bottles). At 9PM, the place

And on top of that, they work some of the sneakiest rip-off moves on their deliveries: The only place I've ever seen that charges a fee for delivery! and it's frickin 15%! AND the muppet delivering it was pissed that I didn't tip him on

I went to this restaurant for brunch and when I told the manager that the lettuce was, "past its prime", it was to avoid saying, "there is icky goo on my plate that is posing as lettuce. It is green-black and nasty". When the manager told the cook, he laughed. WHERE WERE YOU GORDON? This was truly a nightmare.

Great lunch spot right off the subway. I came here with a client and we each got a different salad. Good food and delightful service. It's right in the mix of things down there but it's not over-crowded. I would certainly go back.

I must be a glutton for punishment. I have been to Noho Star perhaps 4 times. All times, I have come back with a lousy experience with food, service and the ambiance of this over-rated restaurant. Perhaps, it is its location, and my partner and I always happen to find parking around this place. After shopping, before or after a movie, and the urge to use the bathroom, this place stands on the corner of Lafayette and Bleecker like the only option. Yesterday's experience (others have included tainted food) was a $17 salad, Tuna Nicoise. Before ordering, I reconfirmed with the waitress if it was fresh tuna and she said, "YES." Out she comes with a salad with canned Tuna in a bowl. I was aghast! But, I know from my previous experience that it is absolutely pointless to argue with these people. They don't care! The manager is also quite vicious. By the way, did I mention that their breakfast Bloody Mary's are $12 a pop? They are kindda bad, soupy gazpacho, with massive amount of chopped red onion. Totally not cool. Eat there out of desperation, if you must. I'm THROUGH WITH NOHO STAR!

We had terrific burgers last night.....but despite their steep price, they didn't come with fries.....that's quite unheard of, even in NYC . . . . .a tasty small side salad filled the void on the plate......we ordered the fries ala carte and they were -- fortunately -- worth the price......the hostess was delightful, the waitron unfocused and distracted but at least pleasant when we could get her tableside.

Whenever we come to New York we end up here for breakfast. Their food is not only good, but also creative. Take for instance their Oatmeal Creme Brulee. It is something out of this world. The service cannot be any better, The staff makes you feel right at home. We definitely recommend it.

My friend and I went for brunch here last week. We waited 30 minutes for our food to arrive. We couldn't find our waitress anywhere so I told the hostess that we had been waiting for a very long time for our food, (people who had come after us had already been served). She went around asking every server in the restaurant if they were serving our table. They all shook their head no. Our coffee by then had gotten cold. A server actually came up to us and said , "Your food will be out in a minute, do you still want it?" What??!! When our food was served, they promptly placed the bill down as well. OK clearly you don't want us at your establishment. I complained to the person who looked to be the manager. She said, " Well you've only been waiting for about 20 minutes actually. And it is customary for the bill to be placed down with the food." Since when? and all the other patrons there received their bill after they were done eating.
Disgusting behavior and service.

I had had been over 5 years since I had eaten at the Noho Star, and I was in the neighborhood on a date recently in late 2007, and we we're hungry. I thought: Hey, l know a good restaurant nearby!

I was so wrong!

Terrible food. My date had the overpriced, flavorless, bland and uninspired chinese salmon. The bun of my turkeyburger was stale. All of it was just way too much money.

The worst those was the service. Horrendous comes to mind. Late, unattentive, uninterested, moody, miserable are just a few of the adjectives I would use.

I've wondered why there's such a difference in reviews on this site. People love it or hate it!

I used it at the Noho Star usually for breakfast and lunch. I haven't ever really been there for dinner before. Could that be it? Stick to the daylight hours? The Noho Star vampires come out at night?

Has it changed over the years? Possible.

Let's leave it this way...

As of late 2007...

Terrible food...

Terrible Service...

Outrageous prices...

I'll never go by there again! I felt robbed !

I've lived across the street from Noho Star for 3 years now, and everytime I walk by it, the grates right outside emit the most horrid stench I have ever smelled. I've eaten there twice, to give it a chance, and the food is just okay. Now that it has that smell coming from it's kitchen, I won't even walk by anymore. I always cross the street and actually go out of my way so I don't have to smell it. If the smell is bad, can you imagine the food? Do not go here!!!

I live a block away and I would LOVE to find an excuse to come here regularly... but I can't. They have a good martini, but that's mostly due to the size of the glass they use rather than the service. I learned long ago not to order anything even remotely esoteric here. I had a good steak once, but that was ages ago. Last night I went there an ordered a burger. The service was painstakingly slow. When the burger finally arrived, it was so vile and raw that I sent it back and told them not to bother bringing me something else. My experiences at this restaurant have been so consistently disappointing, that if I go there and it STILL poor then it's MY fault. I am the fool for ever coming back. Yet... they're busy. I don't get it. Who eats here? They don't look like tourists. That's kind of irrelevant, but it's always confounded me how this place stays in business.

Well, must say ! Have been living in the city for over 24 years, and only once have I ever gotten up and just left !
This was IT. Waited So long to be served, for brunch, it was painful. Waitress was clueless; the concept of water was beyond her. And, of course, the litmus test - all others, who came in AFTER us, were well into their entres, and we still waited. No one even remotely attempted to ask if we were indisposed., or mildly aggravated ! Absolutely the worst service imaginable. We finally left and went to Angelique's - a joy. Never would go back there, under any circumstance.

Great menu. Burger, chicken with pasta and salads are all solid. You can always get a table and its got a nice atmosphere. A little expensive, which is the only drawback.

my husband and i went there saturday night. we sat at the bar waiting for a table and they were ready to seat us within a few minutes. the table was right by the door so we went to the hostess and asked to wait until something else opened up. we waited about another 10 minutes and got a much warmer table. the food was really good, bartender was very nice...service could've been better..not very attentive wait staff. dessert was delicious!! i would recommend this place but not for large groups b/c it gets loud!

My partner and I stopped in for dinner a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night, and still feel compelled to write a poor review of the Noho Star. We were seated near the door on a cold day, and were constantly chilled with the entering and departing of customers. Though perhaps attributable to our coming at a busy time, this hardly excuses the unfocused menu, let alone the simply bland food that followed. The bill was terribly high for the quality of food we got, and the inattentive and cold service left much to be desired. We will not return.

After more than one visit, I've decided that the NoHo Star is nothing more than an overpriced diner. The food looks and tastes bland, the waiters appear miserable and the managers run around yelling at the servers frenetically. There is a Chinese menu available for dinner but each dish we tried seemed to have the same sauce. As far as atmosphere, FORGET IT! No Music, ever! Even the other diners seemed miserable and uncomfortable. A cafeteria has more character than this place. Don't go! Spend your time and $$$ elsewhere. C'mon, it's New York!

For years, I have walked by this establishment thinking I should go in and try it...then I finally did a couple of weekends ago during the early afternoon. Seated promptly outside, we ordered 3 burgers, one beer and a side of fries and the bill came to around $60.00. Mind you, this was not a Kobe beef burger nor was the beer some trappist import. Service was pleasant if not somewhat inconsistant. Happy I went but probably will not venture back.

The Noho Star, a fusion restaurant, offers a delicious array of dishes, ranging from the more casual blt to gourmet offerings. Their drinks (my favorite is the sour apple martini) are fantastic, and their desserts even better. It's also conveniently located near such attractions as the many art galleries and antique shops of SoHo and the Jean Cocteau Rep. Theater. A wonderful and unique dining experience.

They have a NO reservation policy which is STUPID. I brought in a group of 19 people on a Saturday evening. Despite talking to the weekday manager on the prior Monday, who gave me a hard time but agreed to make a reservation for me since my group was so big. I left my name and number. Who would not want 19 people at 18% gratuity? Of course when I got there, no one knew about our group. Food and service are good, but management will run this restaurant into the ground. The manager obviously gave me a fake "yes" just to get me off the phone.

This was, by far, the worst experience I have had in NYC. Went for brunch and will never make that mistake again. The service was awful, the food was sub-par and ridiculously over priced for what it was. All-in-all, I will never return to Noho Star, there are far too many excellent brunch spots in NYC to waste anymore time or money here!

While the service at this restaurant was excellent, the food was really quite overpriced. I was shocked to have ordered the "Three Leaf Salad" for seven dollars only to have it delivered to me with just lettuce and some thinly sliced, marinated onions. For seven dollars? I would expect at least some tomatoes...the fries were $3.50 for a portion about the size McDonald's would serve (supersized) and the hamburger was a little bigger than the size of a half dollar. Though, it was tasty, it certainly wasn't worth $12.50.

I had visited Noho Star 3 years ago and was impressed. I was looking forward to my return trip earlier this evening and they did not disappoint I was accompanied by family members including my 91 year old grandmother. Our server Ben was exceedingly helpful and even offered to change my grandmothers water after she complained that it was too cold (we had no idea that he had over heard her). The menu choices are eccletic and they offer something for everyone Ihad the stir fried filet mignon with chinese greens and the filet was melt in your mouth tender and the greens were just the right consistency. Others in my party had the red snapper special and the grilled chicken special and no complaints here. The drinks were also fabulous. A great dining experience.

I've been living in the city for almost a decade, a patron of many restaurants, and have never been to such a horrendous place. Not only is the food overpriced for what you get, the service is unacceptable. The waiters and waitresses have no etiquette or people skills whatsoever. They spill on you without apologizing and completely ignore your table. They are rude and shouldn't be allowed to be apart of a service industry that is based on being cordial and attentive to its customers. Beware....

We've been going to brunch here off and on for the past year and it serves probably one of the better breakfasts I have ever had. The portions are not large (I suggest ordering an extra muffin or something) and the prices are a bit high, but the tastes are excellent. My favorite is the eggs chiapas. I can't vouch for any other meals here, but brunch has always been great. The only other drawbacks are the inattentive servers and this isn't a super fancy restaurant (if that is what you are looking for) - more of a cool diner with great food.

After an extended club run since 11 PM Saturday, here are four guys on Sunday Brunch. Is this the male version of Sex and the City? I think not as we all seriously needed a tummy fix with food that sticks. My friends had their open faced sandwiches, burgers and beers. I was more adventurous with the walnut shrimp. It may not have been five star cuisine but the casual air was the right vibe for us. And what did we dish on? I can't remember but the meal was one of the decent brunches I had in the longest time. You see when guys go to brunch, we seriously eat!

My boyfriend and I live around the corner, and this is our standby for a quick, casual meal. If we lived in England this would be considered our local. Great food, too. I wonder if the menu was different for the vegetarians who posted here perviously, but I'm a veggie and have found plenty of options -- grilled portobella sandwich, pasta with goat cheese and veggies, and you can get some of the items without the added chicken or shrimp. Yum.

this place is the good old stand by. they have the best burgers and salads. i'm glad this place isn't on the HOT list because it really is a great secret. every time i go in there, we always get seated promptly. a great casual restaurant with really good food. noho star has a large selection of american or chinese ciusine, as well as an extensive drink menu. this is a great place to go if you want to grab a great casual bite to eat! this rating is based on an overall casual dining experience, not recommended if you want a fancy place.

Pros: dependable

Noho Star doesn't deliver much bang for your buck. The roasted garlic burger, though tasty, was vastly overpriced, as were the rest of the meals ordered by my party. The service was a bit slow, and they managed to screw up my check 3 times. This one just isn't worth the bother.

Noho Star has the only hamburgers that I will eat. They are so unbelievably good that I have quit long stretches of vegetarianism on a Noho burger.

If you are a vegetarian, you won't find a thing on the menu.

I find them a bit pricey and during brunch it can be a nightmare.

Pros: best burgers, best caesar salad

Cons: NO veggie items, slow service

Food was good, but not great (had the crisp calamari salad), and the prices are rather high. On the other hand, the waitstaff was super-friendly. Also, the hostess comped our drinks for botching the seating so we were pretty happy that evening.

Pros: excellent service

Cons: pricy, no reservations taken

Noho Star, IMHO, has the best burgers and has had the best burgers for the last 18 years or so. The Roasted Garlic Burger is my personal favorite, but there are others..... Double Smoked Vermont Bacon and Aged Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese, English Stilton and Sliced Cucumbers, and a sort of kitchen sink burger with Bacon, Guacamole, Tomatoes and Cheddar.....oh baby!

Pros: good food, consistent, no hype, just good

Cons: only one location

This place is fantastic! I've been coming to it twice weekly for over 15 years and it simply serves the most original American food in the downtown area - and the best classic Chinese food. No wonder, since their chef comes from the fabled Quilted Giraffe. Breakfast is great, lunch is great and dinner is just as great. There is a large menu, from Prime steak to burgers, with huge salads. Service varies a bit but is always friendly and pleasant. Great setting. Obviously, I'm a long time fan.
