When my friends and I first walked into this restaurant we first noticed that the mood was very down to earth and not touristy at all. The waitress was very polite, and we had a nice conversation with her about the food and the huge list of wines that the restaurant had. We got a kick out of the food and wine as we also reveled at the paintings that lined the walls.

The servers were accommodating, friendly & attentive. However, the food selection is tired & the quality is average, especially for the price. Soft shell crab was a special, offered fried. I asked for & received a nicely sauted version, but the cold hard vegetable side ruined the dish. My partner experienced the same with her filet of beef. While it was the requested temperature, the lackluster flavor & over cooked mashed potatoes & vegetable again disappointed. I enjoy crunchy bread, but theirs was hard. The caviar appetizer was accompanied by greasy potato pancakes & way-too-thick toast points. And the caviar? Frankly, I'm not sure it was the $85 quality it should have been. When a couple pays close to $500 fpr dinner, they have the right to expect more.

Pros: Good service & ambiance

Cons: Disappointing food & wines by the glass

Would have given four stars if not for our bill. Let me explain; Our meals were excellent, the service was standard for such an establishment and we truly enjoyed our evening. So why two stars? My husband was pouring his $12 beer into his glass when a part of his glass broke off into his meal. The glass was big enough that he put it back into his beer and showed it to the bus boy. The manager came over, apologized and took the beer away. A new glass was brought back but no beer. So my husband finished his remaining beer. When our bill came, his beer was on there. $12 for beer he couldn't drink! Come on - who does that?

I and some clients dine once or twice a month at this place. Today when the waiter brought the salads there were several dozen insects that came flying out!!! The waiter and the bus boy stood over our table swating the bugs!!! As the meal progressed I wish I had brought a whisle to get the attention of the waiter. They all stood in a group talking and generally ignored us. This is indicative of how an establishment starts going down hill and the owners don't have a clue why the business is going down hill.

My husband and I recently had a long special weeked in Manhattan. Part of it was supposed to be dinner at Tribeca Grill, The poor service started at the door with a hostess who told us to come back closer to our reservation time instead of suggesting a cocktail at the bar, sitting at a dirty bar for 10 minutes ,a full 10 minutes until I finally cleared the dirty dishes away myself, having said hostess forget who we were when we did check back 3 more times ,before finally leaving without dinner, it was a very disappointing experience, When we had checked our e-mail the next day in Times Square, the restaurant had cancelled our reservation as we were sitting at the bar waiting to be sat, Did I mention we're both chef's and fellow restaurant owners? I'd like to say it left a bad taste in my mouth but unfortunately it left no taste in my mouth.

We recently visited NYC on vacation. I was looking forward to eating here and planned a night just for this. I made reservations and were told dress was casual. When we arrived, few people were there and we got seated in a back area (away from the views of the restuarant), next to the bathroom (which is a hole). We had a view of the kitchen entrance. I was seated right next to a drafty window and it was not comfortable. I was very disappointed at the seating and was wondering why we got seated in a room in the back with no one else around. Also, can they not afford to heat the place? They could have easily seated us elsewhere. I was surprised at the prices, since there really was nothing special about the restaurant. The food is not that great. Serving a decent portion would be a start? $30 bucks for pasta? We had two of the cheapest meals and an appetizer and go out of their for over a hundred bucks. Expect to pay if you have more! It's really a bit uppity, and I regret not choosing another place with better service, table location and prices. If you go here, you will be paying for the hype.

I have come to eat at Tribeca Grill a handful of times, and I have very much enjoyed each of my experiences! In fact, I brought my father, brother, and sister here last week to have dinner for my father's birthday. Both my brother and sister live in the city and have never eaten here before. Everyone was impressed with both the service and the food. Entering the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by the hostess and immediately shown to our table, Within five minutes, our waiter came to take our drink orders and was both friendly and attentive throughout our meal. The food was also great! My sister loved her crabcake appetizer, and my crispy sweetbread and mushroom salad was delicious; at the waiter's suggestion, my father ordered the duck breast, and he also very much enjoyed his meal. I have only positive things to say about Tribeca Grill, and I always enjoy eating here.

We were in Tribeca with our family and decided to catch an early dinner around 3:30. The restaurant was empty, literally no one in it, yet we were seated right next to the restroom door. I am going to assume this was because we were there with 3 children.

The waiter was VERY rude and snotty, even my 7 year old said he was rude. The food took aver 45 minutes to arrive at our table. We ordered 3 black angus burgers, a child chicken finger, a Cesar salad and a salmon appetizer. When the food did arrive my families food arrived 10 minutes before mine. It was not at ALL what I expected and I asked to replace it with a Cesar salad like my mother in law had. After PLENTY of eye rolls and being told that they could not put chicken on it because it would take to long, they finally brought out..and I am DEAD SERIOUS HERE... two heads of romaine lettuce with ONE anchovie on top, not chopped..just a damm head of lettuce,no dressing,no egg,no chesse. I was appalled. We were never asked once if we wanted more drinks even after he saw everyone had empty glasses....shame shame!!! Empty restaurant and all!!

Note to waiter: We eat out several times a week with our children at very high end restaurants. I am notorious for leaving $100 tips for good service. I gave you a $10 to make a point...hope you got it!!!!!!!!

The food was OK, but not so good that it represented value for the vastly inflated price; the front-of-house person was fine, but we barely saw our waitress. We felt neglected and we were paying far too much to feel bad. Our drinks arrived long after we'd asked for them a second time, our bread order was met by stunned disbelief by another server. And despite a perky voice so high-pitched only a dog could hear, our waitress somehow managed to convey that she didn't care about us. If we had wanted slapdash service from teenage amateurs, we would have gone to the UK for brunch. I felt like the mark in a con trick.

Pros: Nice decor

Cons: Poor table service

Just had dinner there (albeit Restaurant Week) - but had an early table - restaurant wasn't crowded at all when we were sat. The food was average at best - I (an avid red snapper fan) was very disappointed w/ the entree - fish wasn't fresh - bland entree - couldn't eat it. The carrot/coconut soup was great as was my husbands warm asparagus salad. He had the skirt steak which was good and both our desserts were very good (apricot tart - yummy). The problem here is that although most of the food was good - it wasn't too exciting - no wow factor as one would expect from this TriBeCa oldie. The staff looked bored - were unfriendly and the service was very disappointing (had to bother another waiter for our check). Maybe they were already depressed about making 1/2 the tips and working twice as hard b/c of restaurant week. But, they should realize it's restaurant week that gets new customers in and their service should be great so that the new customers come back. In the end we were disappointed - we definitely got the $35 service (special menu price for restaurant week). The restaurant itself is nice looking and I like the location - maybe we'll give it another try - this time on a weekend w/ some friends....just maybe.

On a June, 2008 trip to NYC we went to the Tribeca Grill before we caught a cab back to Broadway. The hostess actually knew when I gave my name that we had reserved as and were there for pre theatre and immediately sat us. No small achievement in my experience. The Sommelier was most helpful in assisting us with choosing a reasonably priced wine that we enjoyed. The service time from when our waitress took our order until it was served was absolutely amazing. We joked about whether the waitress who took our order and the service person passed each other on the way to the kitchen. Each course of our meal surpassed our expectations and the service at every level was outstanding. Forget about the celebrity ties, I would not come to the NYC area again without visiting this fine restaurant.

I traveled down with friends to Tribeca on Saturday May 17th for the "Taste of Tribeca:" street fair. Afterwards we walked around the Tribeca neighborhood, and then stopped in for an early dinner at Tribeca Grill. I haven't read much about the restaurant recently, and am not predisposed to like places with celebrity connections. Having said that, I really enjoyed our dinner. The room has a warm, downtown feeling, and while it got somewhat noisy at times, we could all hear each other at the table. The food was good and ample. I started with the Seared Tuna with Sesame Noodles, and others at our table tried the Warm Spring Asparagus Salad, and Jumbo Lump crabcake. All were quite good. For mains we ordered the Garganelli with Short Rib Bolognese, Seared Sea Scallops with Morels, and Long Island Duck Breast. Each exceeded expectations. The wine list was very substantial, and the sommelier was helpful in helping us navigate to some good choices that were not too pricey. It all made for a very pleasant trip to an area and restaurant that was off our radar screen.

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. I was extremely disappointed. I do not recommend this restaurant and would not go back. There was nothing at all special about the food and there was nothing outstanding about the menu either. I was expecting a lot more! I will say the service was very good. Although we waited a long time for our table (even though we made reservations) the staff was very apologetic and even picked up our drinks at the bar as well as our coffee and dessert.

My boyfriend took me here as a surprise and I loved every moment of it. As a big foodie, I was really impressed with the food. I'd recommend getting the Lobster which was absolutely delightful. The portions were great, I didn't feel hungry after the meal. Also the service was excellent.

Went with friends during the restaurant week. One of my friend ordered the port shank from the promotion menu, it was great. The meat was tender and juicy. Worth a try! Short ribs were good, too. And also the scallops.
Waiters were nice and friendly.
But just a little bit noisy.

A DISAPPOINTMENT, I think this place is over hyped and the food is not good, people I repeat if you think this is great you need to get out more and taste more NY restaurants, I grew up in New york city and still live here so trust me when I say this from a New Yorker's persepective the food is Bleghhh. I had for an appetizer the, braised quail, please do NOT order this thing its perhaps the worst tasting thing I've ever had, it was a mix of sourcrat, Ham or (Spam?!) and a poor not freshly tasting quail and sweet apples?, Awful combination of flavors it was gross!

I then ordered for my entree the Seared Sea Scallops, Ouch, not fresh at all, certainly just ok not delicious not a WOW plate, just blah. If u think this is fresh seafood you're wrong please try other places.

The chocolate mousse was good, but then again its dessert so it doesn't count.

Seriously and i mean this in a good way take your money somewhere else where you will actually get bread before your meal something we didn't even get at this place, so much for great service, I hope this helps and pass it on, Im certainly telling my friends.

Very hard to get a reservation here perhaps due to the steady stream of midwestern tourists and their relatives? Anyway, got seated at a crappy table right in the middle of waiter traffic and asked to be moved which they did very politely so that was good. Our waiter was obviously very tired and wasn't willing to discuss the menu i.e me: "how is the mustard encrusted salmon made?" - waiter: "it's mustard encrusted salmon"... uh ok. The arugula with the roasted red pepper and eggplant was quite delicious, the salmon had me running to the toilet after and the mushroom ravioli was soft in some places and hard in others, gross. For desert, the creme brullee choc cake was good but it's something you can buy in any pastry shop and nothing extraordinary. The dining space is quite nice and warm and is charming but that is the only redeeming quality. If the goal is to pack the place up with a steady stream of tourists they are doing a great job. And one other point... there was no eye candy here whatsoever, just a bunch of old people and no De Niro.

This is a nice bar but lacks somewhat in the food service area. Food is average and can be duplicated in many other locations. We enjoyed the atmosphere and having few drinks in a the very cool neighborhood where this establishment is located. I would not visit this restaurant if you are seeking a culinary experience. Great place to go with a crowd of friends.

Hubby, 2 friends and I went for Restaurant Week. We waited at the bar until our table was ready (we didn't wait long) which I would imagine would be a great place to do happy hour or just meet for drinks. This place is full of people hoping to spot Bobby, but you get his paintings instead. The bathroom is DOWNstairs and the overall atmosphere was decent. The service is just ok, they were really busy and I wouldn't fault our waiter for anything. The food: Everyone enjoyed their salads (couldn't be that had to get wrong), 2 had the african sea bass which was good - needed something else, 1 had the short ribs, the other steak which were both above average. The creamed spinach that accompanied the steak was dreadful - it must have been frozen. Save your money and don't order dessert - go somewhere else. Nothing exciting to write about tastleless chocolate cake. There were a few large groups dining and is probably a nice place to take out-of-towners looking for a downtown New York experience. It would not be worth for us to go back, but would recommend to others just to check out for themselves.

I came here w/ expectations that food would be decent and service would be average, but I was very pleasantly surprised by my experience. Restaurant week menus tend to be very boring but I was intrigued by the variety of choices. We were seated promptly for our 6:30 reservation, the place was getting pretty busy already but not packed. Our waitress was extremely friendly and made us feel very comfortable. We each had a glass of wine, and ordered the prix fixe menu with the addition of a jumbo lump crab appetizer which was very tasty. The cauliflower soup was yummy with a few seared (mini) scallops. The entree portiions were a tad on the small side, but presentation was nice and both the braised short rib and sea bass entrees was very good. For dessert we had the chocolate truffle cake and peach tart, both were delicious. Overall everything from service, to presentation, to food was very good. Can't say one bad thing. We'll definitely be coming back... especially since their prix fixe menu is all summer long.

I had friends in from out of town and agreed to meet them downtown for dinner. Unfortunately they picked the place and chose Tribeca Grill because it is in my neighborhood. As any New Yorker knows Tribeca Grill is a tourist restaurant. Almost all the patrons of this restaurant are from out of town with the majority coming from outside of the country hoping to see Robert Deniro. They won't. The restaurant week menu is worth the price but as any New Yorker knows Tribeca Grill offers the restaurant week prix fixe all year round for lunch and all summer until Labor Day every year. Why anyone would want to deal with an overwhelmingly overcrowded hot restaurant during the two weeks of restaurant week when they can have the same prix fixe meal for the same price all summer long is ridiculous. Great if you need pre-theatre fast food and rushed service. If not, don't go during restaurant week. Great wine list, mediocre food, hot dining room, erratic service.

A friend and I tried Tribeca Grill on a Wednesday night during Restaurant Week and I was very pleasantly surprised. Having suffered through some bad Restaurant Week meals in the past I was skeptical, but our meal turned out very well. I had the beet salad, which may have been a touch tiny, but it was delicious. Then I had the lamb shank (very rich and meaty) and finished up with the sticky toffee pudding-- heavenly. The service was very good. Did the meal change my life? No, but it was very tasty and a serious bargain. I would definitely go back.

Landmark or not, if the food isn't good, it's not worth going. Tribeca grill was one of those places. High ceilings, and exposed brick walls, the place definately delivers the Tribeca ambiance but I came home with a stomach ache and was out of commission for the rest of the day.
The food was average at best. Meaning anyone with an incling of culinary background could replicate the menu without much effort.
Would I go back again? Prolly not. I think I would have been happier with an overpriced $10 chicken salad from wichcraft.

We made reservations for dinner at the Tribeca Grill on Saturday night, and we arrived exactly on time, which apparently isn't the way to go. The hostess told us we were "a tad early" No, we weren't early, we were exactly on time. Then she writes our name and the number of people in our party on a piece of paper and tells us to stand near the bar and hand the bartender the paper. I wasn't sure why but after a few minutes I see that the people behind the bar are actually the people that seat you. Have you ever heard of such a thing? So instead of the hostess actually seating you she calls the bartender on the phone and he's the one that seats you. We watched as she attempted to call him many times but often didn't succeed because the restaurant is crowded and why should he have to stand around waiting for the phone to ring? Plus, why is it so hard for her to just walk the 5 feet to the bar to get the group of people and bring them to their table? After we waited for 45 minutes we finally went up to the hostess to see if there was any progress in getting a table, since we had reservations. She looked at us and in a stern voice said "There are no tables at this time" At this point we were ready to go down the street to another place because no food is worth this wait and that kind of rudeness. Of course, coincidentally, a table opened up just then. Our waitress was as sweet as can be and the food was fine, but honestly, there are thousands of other restaurants in Manhattan that you can dine in and not be treated this way.

Tribeca Grill provides a nice dining experience. The restaurant did a very good job of accommodating our party of 9 people. The service was decent; however, the wine recommendation from our server left a lot to be desired. Our first course plates were good. Our entrees were very good. The desserts were moderately good. It was an enjoyable evening overall.

You know your meal is going to be wonderful when you're staff are wondeful. The two variables are definitely directly related. I found my experience at Tribeca Grill to be well above my expectations. My husband had been raving about it and after a little bit of hesitation on my part, I consented to a Thursday night dinner at the Grill. From the moment we entered the door we got nothing but smiles and warm welcomes. Both of us are meat lovers, and the Grill won my heart and my husband's stomach with the Braised Short Rib and the Garganelli Pasta. The coconut shrimp Tempura appetizer was nice and crispy as well. Also the wine selection at the Grill is great. The bottle of red wine that the sommelier suggested went perfectly with our dinner. I can't wait to go back!

The most positive adjective I can use to describe my first (and last) visit to Tribeca Grill is "underwhelming". I had wanted to go for a while and went for my b'day dinner this year. For the price, the food was sub-par and the service was just plain bad. I felt sorry for myself and my dinner companion as the evening was quite a disappointment.

There are thousands of restaurants in NYC...wish I had chosen another!

Had dinner with some of my girlfriends for Restaurant Week and I was not impressed at all. We all wanted to try it out since the restaurant seemed to have raving reviews but the food, service, and ambience was mediocre. I've had better food than what I had at Tribeca Grill at less expensive restaurants. I'm not saying that the food here was horrible though - it's pretty good but for the prestige and popularity of the restaurant, but I don't think it lives up to its name.

I recently went to Tribeca Grill with a group of girlfriends and we all enjoyed the experience. I had the lamb and it was delicious, a perfect medium rare. My friends had the filet of beef, the braised short ribs and the herb marinated chicken. I took bites from each of their plates and was very pleased with all of them, particularly the short ribs. This is saying a lot because both my mother and my friends mothers make phenomenal short ribs so I have pretty high standards when it comes to this cut of meat. For dessert, most of us had the creme brulee, which was great. I will definitely be going back!

We visited Tribecca Grill for the American Graffitti wine tasting, & stayed for dinner. Our meal ($35 pre-fixe) was fine, but our wine service was botched. We ordered a 1991 Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet, and asked that it not be decanted. Unfortunately, our sommelier decided to ignore our request--b/c a couple of pieces of cork had fallen into the wine, and she couldn't figure out how to get them out, other than to decant the entire bottle--which is just ridiculous. Sadly, the wine's nose was gone, and it showed much less powerfully (and less nicely) than the tiny amount in the bottle that wasn't decanted. We didn't get an apology, nor a price concession. $225/bottle is a lot to pay to ignore a customer request and damage their wine. Our Peruvian waiter was very nice, and the food was ok, but forget about ordering an expensive bottle of wine there.

went there for restaurant week. had to wait 20 minutes even though we had a reservation. our waiter was great in that he took down our order for all 3 courses once we were seated and everything came out right on time. food overall was good but nothing that i'd go back for. for the prices that are on the regular menu we were expecting something more upscale and less generic.

I went here during restaurant week and although their restaurant week menu was impressive I saw the Herb Chicken dish and could not resist. It was absolutely phenomenal. One of the best chicken dishes I've ever had! The chicken was tender and fresh with just the right amount of flavor from the herbs and the porcini sauce was delectable. My friend ordered the quaill appetizer which was also excellent and the sea bass- very good. You can't go wrong here and considering that it's categorized as very expensive I really felt like it was cheap for the quality of food we received. If you're a New Yorker and you haven't been here, GO... NOW!!!

Tribeca Grill has extended their restaurant week menu so go while you have the chance! A friend and I had a delightful experience. We made reservations for 8:30pm but were not seated until 9 (so err on the early side when making ressies). Our waiter was very polite and helpful. My appetizer of endive and bleu cheese salad was a surprisingly large serving which balanced the striped bass entree (served on a bed of vegetables). My friend had the special soup and her cheese ravioli looked divine (it was garnished with yummy spinach). Our desserts were the perfect ending - she had a chocolate truffle cheesecake while my warm apple tart was delicious (this coming from someone who is not a fan of apples!). The atmosphere was casual, the waiters friendly, and the food above average. We will definitely be going back!

We decided to check out Tribeca Grill for Restaurant Week becuase the menu looked pleasantly different. What a mistake! The salad and dessert were sub-par but the entrees were honestly horrible. I ordered the black bass which came out smelling fishy and my friend ordered the shortback ribs which he said tasted like "beef jerky". When we asked the waiter what was up he said that they just "could not provide it was too costly to provide there usally quality of food" and that "most people who come to Restaurant Week are from Jersey and won't be repeat customers so it wouldn't really affect their future business". To say the least we will never go back here again. Two nights later I had dinner at another Restaurant Week participant and it was AMAZING!!! I will back and pay the full $65 pre-fix price. Isn't that what Restaurant Week is about?

I have been lucky enough to dine here several times a year. The menu has a nice selection, and everything on it is well prepared and tastie. I have also noticed an improved waitstaff over the last few years, less attitude, better attention, and friendlier staff. It's a great experience.

Just visited the Tribeca Grill with a group of 6. Nice place. We were seated in the small back dining room. Would've preferred a table in the larger open area. Food was very good. My filet was dry and overcooked. I ordered Medium-Rare and it was well done. The waiter warned a group member that the filet was dry....and to order the NY STRIP....I should've listened. Other than that...Seared Ahi Tuna was excellent, as was the spinach. Most group members were very happy. Wine list here is huge. Interesting art work on the walls. Overall, a worthwhile establishment.

Visited the restaurant on vacation - we were very pleased! Loved the atmosphere - NY, but casual. We ordered from the prix fixe menu ($39 for three courses) and loved every bite. Blue Cheese and Endive Salad, Goat Cheese Ravioli was to die for, and the absolute BEST cheesecake that we had ever tasted. Super wine list can accommodate anyone - with help, we chose a very low priced bottle - $40 (which still was highly recommended from the staff) which was wonderful. For more discerning wine drinkers, bottles go up to $2,250! I would definitely go back, and recommend it to anyone looking for a superb meal out.

Went here for a romantic birthday dinner. Was surprised at how casual the atmosphere was. Our waitress happened to be a space cadet and cared more about attending to the loud mouth drunks across from us. The food was nice but not amazing. The scallops were good but a little over seared and not the buttery consistency I was hoping for. My fiance had the beef filet which was quite good but again, nothing fantastic. If you are into having dinner with a room of obnoxious, stuffy khakis then this is the spot for you.

I came to the grill with high hopes...while I was not supremely disappointed, it certainly didn't hit it out of the park. The apps were outstanding, but my pasta, which was recommended by the waitstaff, was sub par. Good service though, and an excellent somellier. I love Deniro, but he could do a little better.
