This restaurant is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. The food is simply delicious - from start to finish, like a real old-school Italian restaurant. Even a simple dish like broiled flounder somehow tastes divine. This is one of those great NY places that can keep you smiling with the food, the service and the great people watching.

The food was delicious however we felt rushed so they could accomodate a larger party. We didn't even get a chance to finish our coffee. They did offer to buy us a drink at the bar but really all my husband and I wanted was to sit, relax and enjoy dinner without feeling like our bill was not big enough in order to dine at our own pace.
Not woth the money.

Pros: Food is excellent

Cons: Very Pricey

.

A local Italian restaurant with overpriced menu and mediocre food.

The place tries to act classy but fails miserably. It's a bridge and tunnel crowd and feels like being in a Sopranos episode (but without the good food).
The restauran was icey cold and when we asked the management to lower the air conditioning, the place turned horribly stuffy within a minute.

These people really need to invest in a decent ventilation system. Or how about opening some windows when the weather is mild!!

Try Petaluma for really good Italian food in a pleasant setting.

I eat at Campagnola once every 6 weeks or so. No matter what night it is, it's always the place to see and be seen. With a very "Old New York" feel, the tables are always filled with Famous athletes, Journalists, Broadcasters, Authors, CEO's and beautifully dressed people with an appreciation for good italian food! The menu is pricey but well worth it! I recommend the the Lobser on top of the bow tie pasta with a light tomato cream sauce. I dream about the dish!!

We live in Pennsylvania and were in NY for the weekend. Our son recommended Campagnola to us. He said it was his favorite restaurant in NY. We had the best of everything there. The best waiters, best food, best service and hated to leave. We did get to experience Claudio - what a great guy he is, everyone loves him. He spent quite a bit of time talking to us and we watched as he conversed with the other customers and everyone had a smile on their face. We will definitely be back and have already started to tell our friends about Campagnola. My husband said that he had the best veal chop ever and that it was better than any steak he ever ate. I had the veal with artichokes in a cream sauce. Our son told us that a "must have" was the nepolian-was he ever right! We have been to Italy several and always rave about the food there and this is right up there with the best. BGW

Service was out of this world. When my date when to the bathroom the chef actually sat down at the table with me and kept me company until he came back. The food was wonderful including the stuffed clams and shrimp, and the napolean was to die for . I would definitely come back and strongly recommend.

This restaurant was awesome! We had a great meal, great service and a fantastic time overall! The service was incredible, they really had a way to make you feel welcome and appreciated your business! Claudio was our waiter and he made our night. They brought us out a great sample pasta appetizer so we could try several different pastas and sauces. We ordered off the menu for our entrees which were all delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to returning when I visit New York next.

We had a fantastic night at Campagnola's last Sunday night - 19 November 2007. We were a party of 8 ladies who had spent all day shopping at Tiffany's and Macy's. We asked a Policeman outside Macy's to recommend a decent Italian for the last night of our stay in NY. He highly recommended Campagnola although it was a long taxi trip but a recommendation was enough for us so we grabbed two cabs and went. When we arrived we were a little concerned that we were slightly underdressed as of course we were dressed 'smart casual' for shopping! However the Manager welcomed us and even helped us in with our numerous shopping bags (and there were a lots!).

The wine was a little pricey to what we had been used to but nonetheless the service we received was impeccable. Claudio and his colleagues were first class - the best service of our whole trip to NY. We only wanted a main meal so the Chef provided our table with some tomato bread - which was gorgeous. For our main meals all 8 of our 'tastes' were catered for - from vegetarian to white meat to anything!

I had the Chicken special of the day; chicken on a bed of spinach with a layer of mozarrella and tomato - it was absolutely delish! I also tried the ravaoli which was gorgeous but the best taste of the evening was the veal with lemon sauce which my friend had - IT WAS GORGEOUS!!!

Despite being a Sunday evening we were not rushed and we continued to drink and chat whilst the restaurant quietened and then waiters joined our conversation talking about NY and where we were from. We learnt lots about living in NY and it was really interesting.

We were in NY for 5 days and this meal was on par with another of our evenings where the food was as excellent but the Campagnola would win best meal experience due to the staff and their fantastic service to us all.

We will definitely go back and i have already recommended Campagnola's to two people visiting NY very soon.

We loved this place. We are Italian and usually don't like eating Italian food out because it never compares to homemade. But this place was just like home. Claudio was our waiter and made us feel like family. The food was wonderful!! They start you out with a dish of cheese and olives, fresh wonderful Italian bread. Claudio was very attentive and really went out of his way to please us. Diner was great, desert even better. Fresh food, wonderful atmosphere. You know it's a good place when Italians go to an Italian restaurant!! A must for us whenever we are in New York!. We have recommended it to several friends and no one is ever dissappointed.

This restaurant has a great amibiance as well as great service. Unfortunately, the food is always dissapointing. Even the bolognese is dissapointing. Campagnola doesn't compare to Elio's or Scalinatella. Do not order fish at this restaurant, or if you do, be prepared to get a free dessert because your fish will be days old. This is a great place to people watch, but, that's about it.

First piece of advice, tell your waiter you want "no menus". Bring us what the chef is cooking. You will not be disappointed. We did this with a party of four and were amazed with the assortment we were able to indulge in. We tried several different pastas and main entrees all to the chef's delight. The service was outstanding and we will come back when in NY. The steak with mushroom and onion on a hot grill & mushroom ravioli & penne w/pesto. I could go on and on...enjoy

service and food were impeccable. both maitre d's went out of their way to make sure our dinner and service were top of the line. my wife had the shrimp scampi appetizer and veal marsala entree, shes a great cook but raved about everything she had down to the fresh homemade napoleans which were incredible. i had the fried calamari appetizer which was outstanding, and a delicious seafood in linguine pasta dish. it was a very romantic and tasteful evening one that we'd both recomend for anyone coming to nyc and in the mood for some great italian cuisine. bravo campagnola we'll be back everytime we visit the big apple.....jim and eddi maxwell

From the minute we arrived it was a fantastic evening, the waitstaff were so nice and accomodating and there was even a man working downstairs at the bathroom doors to open them for the customers and offer toiletries...CLASSY!. The food from the entrees to the cakes for dessert were great. It was a great friendly and cozy atmosphere and well worth the NYC prices. I highly recommend and can't wait to return with my family again.

We went there for my boyfriends birthday, after walking past about a zillion times, due to living just around the corner, always commenting how "we must go there, it's always packed with smart looking people!" After an excellent martini at the bar we were seated and antipasti immediately placed in front of us, yummy! There are lots of specials aswell as an extensive menu, our waiter was charming and very helpful. I had grilled lemon sole with the most amazing creamed spinach I think I have ever eaten, my boyfriend had the veal and relished every mouth full! The wine was great, the tiramisu (with birthday candle) was tremendious! It's not cheap but you do feel special eating in there and it's Italian food as it should be, simple but full of flavour.

We were extremely disappointed by their inferior food and rude and disgraceful service. My 5 clients/guests actually commented about the horrible, unprofessional behavior of the waiter and manager. Even the bartender was rude! To make matters worse: The wine list was terrible and then...NO ONE WAS HAPPY with their appetizers nor their entrees (oily, salty and slapped on a plate). Neither the waiter nor the so-called 'manager' cared. I could not have been more embarrased! There are so many great italian restaurants in NYC - PLEASE, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT CAMPAGNOLA.

Ate there on 6/14 with my wife, parents and sister. The waitstaff couldn't have been friendlier or more accomodating. My wife, who is a vegetarian, was waited on constantly, and she enjoyed everything she ate. Being allergic to seafood, I was not able to order any of the appetizers. This was not a problem, as the waiter said they would gladly make me a pasta appetizer-sized portion of the gnocchi dish. Fantastic. The ossa buco was spectacular, and I had small tastes of my mother's veal parmigiana and my father's t-bone steak. Both excellent. The wine list is small but impressive, and they have both expensive and value-priced wines. Overall a little expensive, but if you have the money and are looking for great italian food, this place can't be beat!

From the atmosphere and the crowd to the unbelievable food, Campagnola is an experience like none other. While the dishes can be a little bit pricey, the portions are large and delicious. The menu is simple, exquisitely tasteful old- world Italian. Don't miss the specials on the chalk board- they are usually the best.

I've been here 3 times now and have always recommended it to friends. This place is truley a NY restaurant. This is what dining is about, and this place could only exist in NYC. The coziness is nice, but the food is fantastic (great veal chop)- not to mention the Chilian Seabass. We have always had super service. I was compelled to put in a review after the negative review I read. That didn't make sense to me.

This place is one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. The food is superb-fresh and always hot. The desserts were outstanding too. Campagnola's ambience is pleasant and comfortable. My wife and I were given a table in the corner and very much able to enjoy ourselves in conversation even though the place was packed. As for the service I have never had a bad experience. I have found the waiters to be attentive and helpful. Even the maitre'd (who isn't exactly Mr. Warmth) is always on top of his game and ready to help you. Campagnola's is a first class restaurant.

Went here for my 30th bday with a large group. One of the waiters was extremely rude and was annoyed when everyone was immediately ready to order after hearing the 20 specials. We were rushed and almost forced to order both an appetizer and dessert. Food was only mediocre and I expect much more for sky high prices.

The food was ok. The service was so terrible that I would never go back. The service was pushy and very "in your face'. The food was good but not worth the price. The restaurant was very cold and uncomfortable at times. When we ordered items on other table the waiter commented that those items were not available that night. I was looking at another table blatantly eating those items and I confirmed with another waiter what they were eating. The veal was tough and not tender, as would be expected with a top tier Italian place.
We made reservations and waited 20 minutes to be seated... and our table was empty the whole time we waited.

Friends made reservations a month in advance to dine here. One of us had previously been at the restaurant with her husband. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT WITHOUT A MALE! From the moment we arrived, we were treated like "girls". For some reason, the manager felt a need to rush us. HE decided to choose our appetizers! This was neither asked for nor requested. We were then rushed to make an entre selection. At the end there was a discrepency with the bill, which when we looked it over at home later, appears to have cost us an extra $60. This so-called manager hoovered over the table as we were doing the bill. His behaviour was disgraceful! A waiter apologized for the treatment we received. He had never seen anything like it. This restaurant will never see us or anyone that we would have recommend in its door again!

Ok, I don't know what these other "reviewers" are talking about, but this place is outstanding. I received impeccable service, and the food was amazing. I doubt that I will ever find better Italian in the City. Perhaps these others just don't know the right people...but then, that's what New York is all about!

I've never been so disappointed in a restaurant in all of my life. Not only was the service sub-standard, but the food was horrible. The appetizers were o.k., but the entree's were barely edible. The veal was one of the worst dishes I've ever tasted. Save yourself the money and go someplace else.
