Step off the face of the earth and into your own little piece of Brazil at Maria Bonita Salon & Spa located in downtown New York. The Brazilian beauty scene is not as thriving downtown as it is uptown, so when spa owner Maria Fernanda Lacerda discovered a void of full-service salons amidst the well-groomed streets of Nolita, she got down to business. Born in 2003, Maria Bonita is one of the only full-service Brazilian salons to offer one-stop hair, nail, and waxing services, as well as facials and massages; it is also the only place in the city to use Bell Soft, a Brazilian line of hair and body products made of all-natural ingredients. The ground-floor hair and nail salon share quarters with a small waxing room, while quiet massage and facial stations are nestled on the basement level. Signature services include, naturally, Brazilian bikini wax.
Thanks Maria!!!!!!

I have been waxing for years on different places, but since Maria did my brazilian bikini I couldn't go another one. Besides a sweet person, her professional highly skill is nearly painless. Congratulations for a such great and inexpensive job! See you on mine next appointment!

FANTASTIC
by redheadd5
Pedro cut my hair and was amazing. Not only did he give me a fantastic cut and style, but i received a scalp massage during my shampoo and styling, without an extra charge. I was so relaxed I thought I would fall asleep. I went in expecting to pay over $100 and my cut and style was $62 + tip. You can't get better than that in Manhattan! I will be returning to Maria Bonita for everything from now on!
Pros: Inexpensive, skilled,, relaxed atmosphere

Regina is the best!!!
by valerie78
My hair removal treatment has been waxing for more than 10 years, I was highly recommended to Maria Bonita, but I never thought that I would find a professional highly skilled, nice, and sweet like Regina. She has hands of an angel! A treatment that is usually very painful with Regina was amazingly unpainful!!!
Thank You!!!
Pros: extremelly clean, great service, good price

REGINA ROCKS
by virginianyc
I had my first Brazilian Bikini wax done at Maria Bonita, and going into the experience, i was terrified!...All my fear and anxiety subsided because Regina made me feel so comfortable the entire time!..And I swear it hurt less than either of the two times that I've had a regular bikini done..I will try my best to make time to go from my Murray Hill apt to the east village the next time I need a wax!
Pros: People, Services

Addicted!
by georgiegirlnyc
I first visited the salon on a whim about a year ago. I am now addicted! The staff is first rate and treats every client with class. They are accommodating (open 7 days) friendly and fun! The salon is bright, cheery & clean. Pedro does a fabulous job with cutting my hair (thank god for JetBlue!)
Carmen...whoa..the woman knows her highlights. I can't tell you how many times I get stopped on the streets and get asked "who does your highlghts?"
The bikini waxes & pedicures are great too, meticulously done. Grande trabalho!
Pros: value, attitude, talent

Wonderful Place
by mauraos
First of all, Thank you Pedro!
Okay Okay, So I have a few anxiety issues...Enough that going to a new salon is a Big Deal.
This Salon was perfect. The people were so sweet, and not overly sweet, where it makes one uncomfortable, just really caring.
I cannot say enough about how down to earth they were, but the most amazing thing was the cut and the color.
I said only that I did not want to see any Red, but that I needed all of the Grays covered.
WOW- Pedro gave me a beautiful style, and gorgeous hair!
The price was such a bargain that I had to tip BIG.
I Will Treck down to the East village and pay for the cab to go to this salon- and have my hair look beautiful- Thanks to PEDRO!
Pros: Bargain, Perfect Cut, Caring Sweet People
Cons: , Still Thinking, Um

These people saved my hair
by 88648864
I went you in to Maria Bonita with a huge tangle problem. They were so patient and kind, and did an amazing job. Everyone at work loves my hair. The price was very reasonable, too. These are the types of people you should be giving your money to!
Pros: not pretentious, great job!

My money's worth
by emswal
I hate the idea of spending a lot of money on a haircut that will look great when I leave the salon and then give me frustration at home. I was thrilled with the cut I got from Pedro, who respected my wishes to add only subtle layers (I've had bad layering experienes) and was wonderfully attentive to me the whole time. He even showed me a new way to style my hair, and made sure I was happy.
Pros: Friendly, Skilled, Good value

Highly Impressed
by dani13
I went yesterday for the first time and now have the best higlights and cut I have ever had thanks to Pedro!! The salon is awesome! The staff was so friendly. It was a girls b-day in the salon and they brought out balloons apple cider and haagan daz ice cream for her and drinks for everyone, how cute! I am now a devoted patron, Pedro is a master at hair (not a bad looking guy either). I still cannot get over how good my hair looks. He really payed attention to my coloring as I no longer have blond highlights that wash me out I now have rich brown and golden hair. The prices are great and they sell raelly unique handmade earrings as well. Run here!
Pros: skilled staff, friendly, good shopping area

Stumbled on a salon...for life!
by sadowsky
Want the truth? I went to Maria Bonita for convenience the first time. The salon I was going to was fine, but really didn't "wow" me. From the first moment I walked through the door of Maria Bonita, I was greeted with a smile in a beautiful atmosphere. And then...ROGER did my hair...consider me "WOWED"! Now, the convenience of Maria Bonita Salon is a plus, but the service, atmosphere and SKILL of Roger have made me a believer (and a follower) wherever I should find myself living in the future. Stop your search...MARIA BONITA IS ALL YOU NEED! You may think I am gushing, exagerating and over the top...but all I know is that my hair is BEAUTIFUL and the positive comments from family and co-workers are constant. And isn't that what we are all REALLY in search of? THANK YOU MARIA BONITA! (and Roger too!)
Pros: Clean, Friendly, Relaxing

FABULOUS COLOR AND CUT!!
by kakilong
After reading reviews on Citysearch, I took a chance on Pedro and was very happy with the results. He layered and highlighted my long hair just enough to give it the NOW look it needed. I'm very picky when it comes to color and cut and he understood exactly what I wanted. I will deffintiley go back. Also, the entire staff is very warm and accomodating, especially Eveline. There is none of the pretenious snobbishness in this downtown salon.
Pros: Pedro, EXCELLENT COFFEE, pleasant staff

SEE PEDRO....SEE THE BEST HAIR EVER!!
by jriggs
so i'm not one to type a review, but i felt it necessary because i took the words of so many before me here on citysearch and went to see Pedro for a haircut last night. i have long, super thick hair that i wanted to keep in length, but change up a bit without going for bangs or anything crazy. Pedro knew EXACTLY what i wanted, i now how Barbarella worthy locks that are infinitely lighter and bouncy with not more then a healthy trim and several mounds of new layers...compliments from everyone i know....but MY compliments to Pedro....do yourself a favor...check him out!
Pros: pedro, sweet staff, good value

Gem of a find!
by raquelr
I don't know what I did before finding this salon! I'm a "regular" for haircuts and straightening. Pedro cuts my hair to perfection, and is THE ONLY ONE who can blow-dry my thick, curly hair, and transform it into a silky, straight manner. My blow-outs last for days! You're missing out on a great new look until you visit Pedro. PEDRO DESERVES A TROPHY! And everyone else does too...Fernanda and Cacau (sisters who own the salon) are the best hostesses that anyone could ask for. They provide FIRST RATE service and accommodations. And, ask for Eveline to wash your hair or book a massage with her. Besides being a sweetheart, she's guaranteed to de-stress you to nirvana! The entire staff is just wonderful - very welcoming. Without hesitiation, I strongly recommend and encourage you to visit Maria Bonito salon for hair and spa treatments!!
Pros: PEDRO!!!, Open late at night!, Brazilian salon!
Cons: there are none!

Color & Highlights From Heaven
by rm_miller
Pedro is the god of color & highlights. Ladies (and men!) if you are thinking about changing your color or getting highlights and are not sure where to turn-look no further. Whether you want to add some subtle golden highlights, spice up your current shade or go for the full Shakira-Pedro is the only name you need to know.

I have curly hair and find it difficult to find a hairstylist. I don't have to look anymore. The staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable in their crafts.
Extra points to Pedro who knows how to make a woman look her best.

A TOUCH OF RIO DE JANIERO IN NOLITA
by PHILLY26
I had an appt with Maria at Maria Bonita for the first time recently for a brazilian bikini wax. She was amazing - working with such skill and precision. The waxing was almost painless. I have had this kind of waxing done before but never felt more comfortable or confident as I knew that I was in good hands. The prices are very reasonable - $45 for the brazilian. Normally I have paid anywhere from $55-80 - so this place was a bargain. I would highly recommend it!
Pros: FRIENDLY SALON
