I remember when Allans Bakery open, because the following week my mother stop baking bread on Saturday morning, becuase she said that Allans Bakery was the only bakery that could make bread that taste better than hers. Allans Bakery is the first stop when I come into Bklyn, Thank you for bringing good West Indian bread to America.

I too moved from Brooklyn and Allans was IT for baked goods. My fondest memory his of their hardo (hard dough) bread. It was so fresh, still warn, that they would wrap it in paper bad and give you plastic separately. The loaf of bread NEVER made it home intact. First the smell would flood the car then I would pinch the crusty end - that's basically all she wrote...after you pinch the end you can't stop!!! Seriously, you'll find yourself wolfing drow a trip of the loaf all by itself. The have a new website - www.allansbakery.com and i'll going to be all over it for Christmas.

I can't see what all the fuss is about. Now hands down Allen's Bakery is all that and some. I have moved from Brooklyn to Oklahoma and when i am in town the first stop for me is Allen's Bakery and when I am about to leave the last place I visit is Allen's Bakery. There are other bakery but none like Allen's and there products are all one of a kind. All of the products that I buy always taste the same. My dad shops there twice a week for as long as I can remember. I know that someone said that the place is not clean. I can say other wise, my dad does work for the bakery(construction wise) and he should know if its clean or not and like I said he shops there twice a week. The bakery in St. Vincent taste the same. And that's my first stop when I get off the plane on St Vincent. The Harddough is my first choice and it last a long time all you have to do is freeze them. That's what I do. I get about 20 when I am leaving town and put them in the freezer they last a long time and we use one on Sunday mornings. To the staff, You all have so much Patience to deal with all the different Personalities. My Hats off to you all. I will see you all in about 12 days.

My boyfriend has been raving about this place for years. He finally took me to get some currant rolls and they were amazing. since then, I've tried their chicken patty, coconut bake, and black cake. Everything is to die for!

Too expensive and the sales people are rude. I found cockroach poo in the coconut bake; I would hate to think the currants roll have them also. Their customer service was very poor, I don't think I'll be shopping there again.

This bakery was ok. The food is good but the prices are a little high. They always have everything you need. When you order cakes they always have them ready on time.

I've patronized quite a few local Caribbean and city-wide American bakeries and I ALWAYS compare them to Allan?s and the others continue to be found lacking in some way or other. Allan?s beats EVERY bakery on all points. It seems I?m not alone because people who have moved out of the neighborhood, often to NJ, upstate NY, Long Island etc., still journey back to Brooklyn to pick up their baked goods.

There is a reason this bakery is often packed daily with occasional long lines and especially on Saturdays with repeat customers like myself who have patronized this bakery for years. Great quality baked goods all the time.

What?s the fuss about? The place is clean, the staff friendly (and a vast majority of them are related since this is a family run business) and the items are very affordable and varied. The bakery has also been around for the past 40 years.

What?s on the menu?? Currant Rolls (one of their many best sellers & my absolute favorite---think Greek baklava without the nuts---currants soaked in an excellent glaze repeatedly wrapped in layers of soft buttery flaky pastry dough ?divine); Coconut Rolls (the same only with coconut), lemony tennis rolls, sugar cake, pone (sweet potato & cassava), fudge, fresh baked breads (white, whole grain, whole wheat, Jamaican hard dough, butter flaps), Salara (Red Coconut Cake), Potato Balls, Fish Cake, Coconut Sweet Bread, Bread Pudding, Beef patties (Jamaican or Guyanese), Channa and much more!

They have a smaller separate section for cakes made to order: Moist and delectable Caribbean black cake (rum cake for you Americans iced or plain), wedding cakes (black cake or iced sponge cakes) traditional Sponge Cake, Ice cream cakes Decorated Iced Cakes made to order for birthdays or special occasions, Chocolate cake, Pineapple or Strawberry filling etc., .

They also serve: Hot Coffee and Tea, Sorrel, Mauby, Ginger Beer, Soursop, Sea Moss, Fruit Punch, Lemonade and Iced Tea.

PROS: Excellent Fresh Baked Goods Daily
CONS: Occasional Long Lines For Good Reason! Worth The Wait!

OMG ! I just found out that Allans Bakery is shipping. I am in haven. I can't wait to place my first order. I used to have to travel from Ohio to Brooklyn to get my favorites. You just don't know what this means to me.
