Established in March 1989 by Jan Suchanek, DVM, Midtown Animal Hospital is located at 356 E 33rd St. in the heard of Midtown Manhattan in Murray Hill. Dr. Jan is known for treating your animals as if they were his own-with loving care and compassion. Midtown Animal Hospital specializes in companion animal medicine, surgery, boarding, dentistry, nutritional counseling, and international health certificates. February is pet dental month--Imagine what your teeth would look like if you didn't clean them everyday or visit the dentist. Without dental care, bacteria in the mouth can enter the blood stream, travel to major organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys and even the brain. Damage to these organs caused by infection can seriously compromise the health of your pet and shorten its life. To help promote dental care, all dentistry patients will receive 15% off all dental procedures.
Excelent Veterinary clinic
by LauraG
Midtown Animal Hospital is, and has been, the place where all my pet companions have received excellent medical care. Dr. Suchanek helped me to keep my cats and dogs healthy. He never pressed for unnecessary procedures but advised me if he thought the pets could benefit from something more than the basic care. The decision was always left to me and I never felt pressed to consent to treatments that we thought would have been superfluous. Everybody in the clinic treats the pets with kindness and consideration.
The prices are moderate when compared to other similar establishments in Manhattan. People sometimes forget that we are in one of the most expensive avenues in the world.
Dr. Suchanek and his staff offer a good service and the program of the clinic makes it easy to take your pets there.
Pros: Dr. Suchanek has extensive experience with cats and dogs
Cons: None

Great vet--takes excellent care of my dog
by nantucket8
I have been bringing my pets, Baxter and Brittany, here since i moved to NYC and my experience has always been great. Of course, usually when im bringing one of them to the vet, it is b/c they are sick, which is always somewhat unpleasant, but i trust this vet completely with my animals. He is very calm and kind with them, which means the world to me. Im not sure why there are so many bad reviews on here--people need to understand that pets and vets are expensive, especially in NYC. Even in Pennsylvania, I never walked out of the vet for under $200, but I actually have here! I highly recommend bringing your animals here.
Pros: kind, caring vet
Cons: none

Go elsewhere if you can
by zizanie13
My main problem is that when our dog needed to be put to sleep, he hurt her accidentally, but it was avoidable if he had sedated her first. Also, he did not let us hold her through the procedure, but insisted one of his assistants hold her, while we watched. Otherwise, this vet is very clean, and is convenient for those living at the NYU Med Center and nearby. I have to agree with other reviewers that he is concerned with his bottom line. Personally I've never dealt with a rude staff member, but the doctor himself could have a better bedside manner. He has given me discounted visits for a recurring problem, but only after I paid full price for a vet visit and some arguably unnecessary tests previously.
Pros: Office staff nice
Cons: pricey

He is UNETHICAL
by nycity1026
HE SCREWED US. He preformed a needle biopsy on our dog that came back negative. Then he wanted to remove the whole lump as a precaution. His office accidentally sent the sample out. We were told repeatedly that it was an office mistake and that we would not be charged for the accidental biopsy and that they would give us the results anyway. It turned out to be a cancerous lump but after he gave us the results he demanded money. Now our new Vet wants the slides before we perform surgery but can?t do it until this old vet gives up the slides that he accidentally sent out and now he is demanding double what the original cost was. HE IS A TERRIBLE VET STAY AWAY FROM Jan Suchanek

worst vet ever
by nyctania
This vet is the worst vet I ever went to in my life!! I brought my dog there for stomach problems and was charged close to 400 bucks for a xray and an exam.
Also they gave my dog medication but didn't say on the bottle how much to take. The directions on the bottle said, USE AS DIRECTED. There were 4 pills in the bottle, so I wasn't sure if he was supposed to take all of them because each pill was 10 milligrams and they told me that he's supposed to take it at one time.
Anyway realizing a few minutes later that the girl at the reception told me the wrong info. and he was only to take one, and it was for 4 doses, which didnt make any sense at all. Needless to say I was frantic and my dog almost overdosed. When I was asking for the vet, he was unreachable. Not in the office, not answering his cell phone, and no other doctor in the place. The girls were totally clueless as to what to do.
Thank god, my dog is ok. He is like my baby and could not imagine the worst.
If you love your pet as much as I do, please don't bring them here!
