I have been very pleased with Dr. Dan. Several times, my Pomeranian has had some serious ailments, and Dr. Dan immediately diagnosed the problems and prescribed the appropriate medications. Each time, he was right on and my dog responded

This vet will nickel and dime you. He still does annual distemper vaccines even though it's proven to last 3 years and nearly every other vet in the city only does it every 3 years. He also still vaccinates annually for Corona even though

I took my sick kitty to Dr. Suchanek for two months, and he was kind, honest and tried very hard to help her.\n\nUnfortunately, she was too sick and did not respond to treatment. I had to put her to sleep last week, but the experience was as peaceful as it could be. I really appreciated the kindly written note from the receptionist as I left, and I appreciate all the help and advice I received from the vet.

Very caring. Dr. Suchanek is awesome and I see he has a words of experience. I can ask all the questions I want, does not rush me. I would not let anyone else take care of my cat. Thank you Dr. Suchanek.

Dr. Jan is very compassionate which, coupled with the wisdom accumulated over the years makes him very easy to deal with. I find his prices comparable to other vets in good neighbourhoods. His office is spotless and the surgical/recovery areas you don't normally see were so clean! He never recommends procedures my pets don't need. One drawback - he rec. Hill's Science Diet RX. I simply refused to buy it.

Pros: A vet with experience and intuition

Cons: Dumb staff

.

Dr. Jan is caring. His hospital is spotless. I insisted on seeing where my cat would be kept. You could eat off the floors. When she needed to be spayed he double-stitched her (dissolving stitches inside and regular outside) because she is so wild, he was afraid she might try to pull them out. He likes the cats to spend the night after surgery to make sure they're OK - and it cost the SAME as other vets who said "Oh pick the cat up right after."
But he has some real dumb doras working for him.

I know that people with complaints are more likely to leave reviews then people who are satisfied with their experience.\nSo I want to add my positive review of Midtown Animal Hospital and of Dr. Suchanek. \nI have been bringing my pets here for 14 years. I have always found the staff considerate, friendly and helpful. \nAs far as Dr. Suchanek, I have always found him extremely caring and concerned about my animals. \nHe has always been up front and honest with me about costs and procedures. In addition, when I recently had to put my cat to sleep, he was\nextremely compassionate and really helped make a difficult time bearable. \nHe is the best vet Ive ever dealt with. When I got married my husband dropped his vet and started using \nDr. Suchanek as well because he was so impressed with the treatment.\n\nPet care is expensive. If you have an issue with the cost, you probably shouldnt have a pet. \nLab tests cost money, x-ray machines cost money, the food and medicine cost money, the staff needs to get paid.\nI would also like to mention the time I saw a this beautiful cat in the back room, it turns out the owners brought it in months earlier and never came back for it,\nLeaving Dr. Suchanek to assume responsibility for it. I cant imagine the stories he must have of thoughtless owners refusing to pay for the care their pets receive.\n\nDr. Suchanek is running a business, he has bills to pay and like all of us, he has to make a living. His prices are fair and reasonable. \nIf you dont think so... Bring your pet to the Animal Medical Center on 62 St. and see what your bill is like. \n\nHe is a great doctor. I wont go any place else.

Dr. Suchanek is a fantastic vet! I have had two cats and two dogs since I began bringing my pets to him in 1995. In every case, he combined his expertise with caring and compassion, allowing our animals to get the best of care.
The great thing about Dr. Suchanek is he really cares about our animals as well as our relationship with them. I'll never forget how loving he was when we had to say goodbye to my son's beloved bulldog. Dr. Suchanek allowed my son to stay with his dog to the bitter end, as he wished. Then, he lovingly shaved off a bit of fur from his body and place it in a medicine bottle. Now, when we miss him, we can still reach in and "pet" him whenever we want.
When I chose another dog, Dr. Suchanek advised me about the breed and shared his knowledge when I brought her home and took her to him for care.
Dr. Suchanek's experience as well as his knowledge allows him to come up with sensible solutions and permits us to avoid excess costs and unnecessary tests. Our whole family loves him!

Midtown Animal Hospital is, and has been, the place where all my pet companions have received excellent medical care. Dr. Suchanek helped me to keep my cats and dogs healthy. He never pressed for unnecessary procedures but advised me if he thought the pets could benefit from something more than the basic care. The decision was always left to me and I never felt pressed to consent to treatments that we thought would have been superfluous. Everybody in the clinic treats the pets with kindness and consideration.\r\nThe prices are moderate when compared to other similar establishments in Manhattan. People sometimes forget that we are in one of the most expensive avenues in the world. \r\nDr. Suchanek and his staff offer a good service and the program of the clinic makes it easy to take your pets there.\r\n

I have been bringing my pets, Baxter and Brittany, here since i moved to NYC and my experience has always been great. Of course, usually when im bringing one of them to the vet, it is b/c they are sick, which is always somewhat unpleasant, but i trust this vet completely with my animals. He is very calm and kind with them, which means the world to me. Im not sure why there are so many bad reviews on here--people need to understand that pets and vets are expensive, especially in NYC. Even in Pennsylvania, I never walked out of the vet for under $200, but I actually have here! I highly recommend bringing your animals here.

Pros: kind, caring vet

My main problem is that when our dog needed to be put to sleep, he hurt her accidentally, but it was avoidable if he had sedated her first. Also, he did not let us hold her through the procedure, but insisted one of his assistants hold her, while we watched. Otherwise, this vet is very clean, and is convenient for those living at the NYU Med Center and nearby. I have to agree with other reviewers that he is concerned with his bottom line. Personally I've never dealt with a rude staff member, but the doctor himself could have a better bedside manner. He has given me discounted visits for a recurring problem, but only after I paid full price for a vet visit and some arguably unnecessary tests previously.

HE SCREWED US. He preformed a needle biopsy on our dog that came back negative. Then he wanted to remove the whole lump as a precaution. His office accidentally sent the sample out. We were told repeatedly that it was an office mistake and that we would not be charged for the accidental biopsy and that they would give us the results anyway. It turned out to be a cancerous lump but after he gave us the results he demanded money. Now our new Vet wants the slides before we perform surgery but can?t do it until this old vet gives up the slides that he accidentally sent out and now he is demanding double what the original cost was. HE IS A TERRIBLE VET STAY AWAY FROM Jan Suchanek

This vet is the worst vet I ever went to in my life!! I brought my dog there for stomach problems and was charged close to 400 bucks for a xray and an exam. \r\nAlso they gave my dog medication but didn't say on the bottle how much to take. The directions on the bottle said, USE AS DIRECTED. There were 4 pills in the bottle, so I wasn't sure if he was supposed to take all of them because each pill was 10 milligrams and they told me that he's supposed to take it at one time.\r\n\r\nAnyway realizing a few minutes later that the girl at the reception told me the wrong info. and he was only to take one, and it was for 4 doses, which didnt make any sense at all. Needless to say I was frantic and my dog almost overdosed. When I was asking for the vet, he was unreachable. Not in the office, not answering his cell phone, and no other doctor in the place. The girls were totally clueless as to what to do. \r\nThank god, my dog is ok. He is like my baby and could not imagine the worst.\r\nIf you love your pet as much as I do, please don't bring them here!
