Rocking Horse Cafe is a uniquely elegant voice of New York with a warm Mexican accent and offers serious food in a casual environment. Designed to evoke the spirit of Rocking Horse's contemporary menu, the restaurant's modern sleekness and bold blocks of color are warmed by Mexican-inspired works of art. Delightful innovative dishes as well as contemporary treatments of the classics are the basis for the pre-Columbian inspired menu. The lively, seductively lit bar features signature margaritas made with the finest artisan-produced tequilas in Mexico. A retractable front wall allows for open-air dining and a prime view of the happenings on Eighth Avenue, Chelsea's energetic "Main Street".

I'm from California, and I'm pretty picky about Mexican food. I've always liked the Rocking Horse Cafe. The salsa and chips are excellent, the guac and handmade tortillas are amazing, and the menu is varied and very fresh. It's not cheap... entrees are in the $20 range, but it's a great place for a fun night out with friends, think birthday, promotion, graduation, etc. Service was good.

When you see the woman during the day in the front window handmaking the corn tortillas you know this place is fresh. The best fresh salsa and homemade guacomole and huge tortilla chips. The margaritas here are amazing and the tequilla options are endless. Authentic margaritas with fresh lime no sweet and sour and fresh fruit purees. The food itself was amazing. Mixiote was slow cooked pork with plantain puree - incredible. Pairs well with their wine list as well. I will definitely go back and I highly recommend this restaurant!!! Lunch or dinner.

Always a great choice
by tryeverythingonce
This is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. It's cute, the food is a little more gourmet than your typical Mexican, and the duck crepes are one of the best dishes anywhere in the city. Great for takeout too. I highly recommend it!

This place is soooooo good. Drinks are wonderful, I got the frozen mango margarita and loved it. The food is mexican elegance, the combinations are excellent. It is very small so if you dont like sitting very close to your nearby diners, dont go.
Pros: Food and drink are amazing
Cons: small place, cramped seating

perfect for special occasions
by morgann11
YUM YUM YUM. Had a delicious meal here for my best friend's graduation. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to end. The menu was very thoughtful and the food very very good. The service was also very attentive, but not the in "Hows everything going over here?" every two minuets kind of way. The wait staff was knowledgeable and able to tell us a lot about the menu. I would recommend this place for a special occasion because it is pricey.
Pros: food,friendly service

Had the pleasure of dining here with my boyfriend on Mon 8/11 and i must say that i found the staff to be friendly and professional. I had the chicken burritos with bbq sauce and avocado, and my boyfriend had the tuna steak over baby greens and the chicken soup. All food was fresh and top quality. The pureed plantains and flan were awesome! Only complaint is that we were seated in the back (at our request), and i noticed that the walls and framed pictures were very dusty. I would strongly recommend this place for any meal, large or small groups. Cant wait to return!!
Pros: fresh food and nice staff
Cons: dust on walls

Salt, salt, and MORE salt!
by everthere
Although the guacamole here is really wonderful, every dish I've ever had at this place is incredibly salty. The attitude of the management is salty too, and leaves A LOT to be desired; some could use serious training in people skills. They seem more concerned with getting diners in and out like cattle, with no respect or professionalism. Very upsetting and disappointing place, as the menu is great in theory, but the dishes are just so over-salted. Between that and the rude management, I'm never going back. And as Anthony Bourdain has said, if you're over-salting your food, you're trying to hide something!!
Pros: The chips, salsa and guacamole. That's it.
Cons: Rude, unprofessional management, overly salted food

Disappointing. Do not recommend.
by SashaB
Not crazy about this place. While the menu promises wonderful things, their dishes are VERY salty, bordering on unhealthy. All though the bar, provides tasty and strong drinks. Aside from food, the management is rude to the patrons and unprofessional. Certain people should not be in the service industry. Disappointing.
Pros: good drinks
Cons: rude management, food could be better

Best Steak Burrito
by swisscheese
I am officially obsessed with their steak burrito. I can't recommend anything else on the menu because I refuse to order anything else from them. The restaurant itself is very clean and is larger than it appears from the outside. The staff is very pleasant and I can't give one complaint about them.

OK food but be careful with your reservation...
by cherrybomb23
This is certainly a cute place and the food was fine - not great (esp. for the prices) - but be careful when you make your reservations! I find it's hard to enjoy any meal when a place can't even get your reservation right, but this situation was especially disappointing. They even went so far as to tell a story that someone by my own name called and changed the reservation. Strange, don't you think? Re: the food - the starter salsa was unexciting and quite bland and the chips were stale. The lobster empanadas were dry and required a lot of soaking in the oily sauce that accomanied them. The guacamole was surprisingly good and there was a lot of it, which was a nice surprise, but I wasn't sure what to do with the soft tortillas and the meek side dishes...make a wrap of some sort? The rest of our entrees -- the salmon: the grilled chayote was a nice addition; the tuna: overdone but the sides had great flavor; braised pork: completely bland with no flavor at all - very disappointing; and the steak: just so-so - nothing to write home about. All in all, way overpriced for what the food was and disappointing off the bat with the reservation mistake. I won't be heading back anytime soon.
Pros: guacamole
Cons: lack of ability to take a reservation

Lovely Latin Lounge
by plaztikstar
The Rocking Horse Cafe is a great spot for great food or even just great drinks! Great atmosphere for large groups which makes it difficult to dine without reservations on weekends, and outdoor seating is a cut-throat preference that many will wait for but few are privileged with. Regardless of where you sit, there is friendly service and catchy music, but the only fault I found at the Rocking Horse is the limited vegetarian option. Only two salmon dishes are available, but notheless delicious and recommended! It also wouldn't hurt to mention the handsome waiters and bartenders, as well, would it?
Pros: Great service.
Cons: Semi-vegetarian friendly.

rocking horse rocks
by missfantase
What a better way to spend an evening out in Manhattan, then with good friends at a great restaurant. The Rocking Horse Cafe has come to be probably my favorite restaurant to take people in New York. There is a great energy in the room, super fun and attentive waitstaff, great cocktails, and if you're looking for a restaurant where no matter what you order you wont be dissapointed, this is it. Some of my favorites include the Quesadilla de Hongos, the Enchiladas de Pollo and the Atun. They've got tons a different margarita flavors, and also an eclectic wine list. Oh yeah, and I suggest taking a look at the dessert menu also. The Tortita de Chocolate is fabulous!
Pros: Beso de Maracuya
Cons: Not big enough

Great time, every time....
by empressgefil
Two weekends ago, my friend took me to brunch at Rocking Horse. We sat at the front outdoor patio, and had a great time watching Chelsea cruise by. I had a delicious steak and scrambled eggs wrap with a side of guacamole. The experience was so much fun; I decided to go back two nights later, to see if the restaurant was as god as I thought. I took someone else to dinner, and we also had a great time, although, very different. We sat in the back for a quieter meal, so we could talk. Both seaters, each were friendly and attentive, making sure we were seated according to the meals needs. Dinner was great with a starter salad that was frizzled greens with Calamari and Chorizo in a citrus dressing - delicious! I am a real NY 'Gringo' when it comes to Mexican spices, but the flavors in this meal were not overwhelming, nor too spicy. I had a grilled chicken and vegetable entree, which was wholly satisfying; however my friend had another chicken dish that was set in a bowl over mashed potatoes, which was treated entirely differently, and also very tasty. But the most interesting was the postre, desert flan. It had a coconut caramel sauce, with a hint of lime. It was truly unique, not too filling and worth the going back for. Our brunch waiter was a bit more conversational than the dinner one, but they both gave great service. The busboy/food runners were excellent both times attending to water and such. I enjoyed the decor, which was modern and clean, and I didn't feel like I was paying for the decorator instead of my food, which sometimes turns me off in other establishments. In all a great experience and I'm sure I will be going back again quite soon. Hope to see you there!
Pros: good food, service, ambience
Cons: Things can get a little noisy when it is so crowded with Chelsea queens, but 95% of the time it's perfect

I have a crush on the Bartendar!!
by gourdsquasher
Dinner at The Rocking Horse Cafe was a perfect end to a day in the city. I began my Rocking Horse experience with sweet corn tamales topped with shrimp, chipotle butter and avocado. Not only did this appetizer come out well presented, wrapped in cornhusks, it was also delicious. My entree, Camarones con Papaya, with shrimp, caramelized onions, and roasted vegetables and papaya served in a miniature skillet, with organic spelt tortillas rolled on the side, was amazing. Does anyone know the name of the Rocking Horse Chef? Because when I win the lottery, I plan on hiring him as my personal chef.
Desert was a pleasant as well as imaginative experience. The cinnamon ice cream topping my spiced valrhona chocolate cake was so good I wouldn?t mind bathing in it.
The Rocking Horse mixed drinks are great too! I recommend a passion fruit margarita on the rocks, easy on the limejuice.
Aside from the food and drinks, the waiters and bartenders are HOT HOT HOT and the waitresses are beautiful. In fact, I?m still fantasizing about one of the bartenders. So, if you?re down for great food and enjoy being surrounded by gorgeous people, this is the place for you.
If the weather is nice shoot for outdoor seating. It?s definitely worth the wait!
Pros: hot bartendar
Cons: not dating hot bartendar

With a Hot Latin Vibe...
by alicew96
Colorful, inventive food, and festive drinks to match. My pomegranate Margarita was THE best and just the right balance to the homemade chips and Rocking Horse?s unique salsa. The service couldn?t have been better--warm, professional and friendly. The manager, bartender and wait staff made certain we had a great experience.
My choice from an elegantly designed menu, a light, fresh and zesty swordfish, garlic mashed potatoes and the best guacamole, sitting atop the dish like a dollop of whipped cream--divine.
Lively bar scene in a contemporary and very classy setting. The place moves to a Latin rhythm and is definitely an homage to our south of the border neighbors.
Pros: Colorful ambiance and inventive tastes

Really an exceptional place that's almost hiding under the scaffolding outside. But the multi-colored logo outside sets you up for the bright and happy atmosphere inside. The best part? The food: Scottish salmon, crunchy caramelized onions, smoked trout, exquisite guacamole, organic beef ? it's all good.
Pros: Food, service, ambience, atmosphere
Cons: Scaffolding outside

by bohonk
OMG - went the other night and had their scallop special. Amazing! Fresh crispy sea scallops over the best lemon risotto I ever had. Asparagus and mushrooms accompanied it. I told my waiter that this should be on the menu every night - as I'd order it again and again. Great fresh tasting chips and salsa. Killer margaritas. A definite keeper.

Margaritas are excellent - and not a rip off like most places! Fun place to go to in Chelsea with great food. Best app was the Quesadilla De Hongos. The Bistec En Recado was great but you must love garlic. I woudl defintiely go again with friends....the front section is a little loud but very festive - thankfully they have a back area with tables that is conducive to conversation.
Pros: drinks, staff, mushroom app
Cons: a little loud in front

by ecsukas
It always looks like something special is going on because it's busier than all the other restaurants on 8th Ave, Chelsea. But not too busy to get a table or a spot at the bar. Adult size margaritas and excellent food that's healthy and never a dissappointment. Good size portions too!
Pros: Ambience, Food, Service, Specialty Drinks like Margaritas

great atmosphere, selection of unique cocktails, friendly and inviting
by jimoneill
The Rocking Horse Cafe is an outstanding dining experience. The atmosphere has two distinct zones, the front being the more active and boisterous and the rear being more intimate. They have a very fine selection of tequilas and various domestic and imported beers at the bar. The unique cocktails are worth the trip in themselves. For the main entre the Carne Guisado is a surefire good choice, and the Tortita de Chocolate will have you spinning with its chocolate and cinnamon flavors. Finally the wait staff and service were impecable, friendly, and inviting.

Fun spot, good food and GREAT margaritas!!
by gam13
The Rocking Horse is a great after work place to go with friends. I been several times and have never been disappointed. The drinks are awesome, especially the margaritas, they're a must! Served in BIG glasses nice and cold. If you're sitting at the bar and just want appetizers, i highly recommend the quesadillas with manchego cheese and mushrooms, one of my favorites. The guacamole is always good too. If you decide to sit and have a full meal, the hangar steak is the way to go, cooked to perfection. And if you're craving something sweet for dessert, the tres leches con platano is heavenly. All the cocktails on their menu are delicious. And when the weather gets warmer, the frozen margaritas are the best in town. Overall just a great place, fun atmosphere, not expensive, friendly wait staff and again the margaritas!!! Definitely recommend it for some after work fun.

On my third visit to the Rocking Horse I had a tasty and yummy dish, which I strongly recommend if you love seafood. I ordered ?Camarones con Papaya? (shrimp caramelized onions with papaya). The combination of the shrimp, onions and papaya gave this dish an original and delicious flavor. After sipping up my drink I was speechless! the best mojito ever. Our waiter was friendly and responsive. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was enjoyable.

Favorite Mexican Restaurant
by mariahi
I'm a big fan of Mexican food, and after I came to the Rocking Horse this week I made it one my favorite Mexican restaurants. The server was very knowledgeable; after recommending me the salmon with chayote he chose a glass of wine for me that went really well with the dish. My friends also had a great time. I couldn?t stop staring at the exotic drinks they were having. The manager was very cordial and attentive (and handsome). The ambience, in general, made me feel young again.

great vibe- fun, young, buzzing, and so much more!
by foodnyfood
Rocking Horse had a great vibe- fun, young, buzzing
with energy. It wasnt uber cheezy like most mexican
restaurants, i dug the tastefully colorful decor.
our service was prompt and courteous, and our waitress
had a personality. im sick of those femmebot
waitresses who dont even know how to really talk to
someone outside of taking an order.
The drinks were neat, interesting mixtures of less
common upper shelf liquor and fresh juice. They were
strong, even with a full meal.
The appetizers were lovely. The guacomole was zesty!
There were these warm tortillas that came with
different toppings, i never thought id say this, but
the duck skin topping was soooooo good. Nice
presentaion.
The entrees were superb. My favorite was the tuna
dish. The tuna was cooked to perfection, just cooked
enough not to freak me out but not so cooked that it
didnt melt in my mouth (oh did it ever melt!). It came
over this amazing veggie compote, it was divine.
The desserts! The chocolate thing was
ridiculous! I was secretely fighting a very covert war
to get as much of it in my mouth as possible (i was
suposed to be sharing!)
I love this place. You get a lot for your buck,
amazing food, and a really good time!
Pros: Food, Drinks, and Servers have personality!
Cons: Busy - best to make a reservation.

Dining at the Rocking Horse was a wonderful experience. From the moment when the beautiful hostess welcomed us with a great smile to the second we walked out. The service was excellent; our waiter was educating us about the modern Mexican cuisine that characterizes this restaurant and was being very attentive with all the needs we had. The special scallops that the server recommended was very original and delicious (complement to the Chef!) and the Mezcal margarita that the bartender suggested was thrilling! I?m definitely coming back.

I have been to Rocking Horse several times, and it has been great everytime. I have sampled several of their dishes and each are fresh, flavorful, visually appealing, and well-prepared. The restaurant?s upbeat decor sets a great mood to unwind and chat with your fellow diners, and there is always a lively bar scene in the front. The drinks are original and tasty and made with the best ingredients. The manager is ever so attentive. I was drinking a martini, and ate all my olives, and she came over, unsolicited, with a refill toothpick, fully loaded with olives! Can?t top that!
Pros: Great interpretation of mexican cuisine.
Cons: can't think of any

by joedarko
Rocking Horse is not like the typical tacky Mexican restaurant at all (i.e. no sombreros on the walls) yet the decor is festive and classy. The food was always a more gourmet Mexican, yet it has really improved over the years. The owners are clearly always looking to improve this place. There is always a hip crowd munching on the gourmet tortillas and killer guac. The bar offers all types of fancy fresh fruit Margaritas, and a killer selection of Tequila. I have found it easy to make this a regular dining spot and hang out.

Great take on the Mexican theme
by whmjr
The first thing that hits you when you enter the Rocking Horse is the great atmosphere. There is good music playing, the lights are not too bright or too dim, and your appetite quickly gets reved up by the savory aromas coming from the kitchen (which you can actually watch work in the cellar). The wait to be seated was not terribly long considering it was a Saturday night, and the unique cocktails imbibed at the bar made the time pass smoothly. The various top shelf tequila helped with the layover. There is a distinct difference between the front and back of the house, the back being much quieter and intimate. I am glad we sat there although I can see how being up front would have its advantages. Especially when it is summer and they open the front garage style door. The menu was simple in the best way possible in that each description gave a very good idea of what the dish would be like. The shrimp dish was superb, and I was able to taste the beef dish and another dish my partners ordered. Overall the food was excellent and presented in a easy and elegant way that reflected the atmosphere as a whole. Finally, the service was some of the best I have encountered. The staff was friendly and accommodating and hardly as stressed out on a busy Saturday night as I would have expected. Go there now.

Chelsea's Best Kept Secret
by masterbeck
It always amazes me when I speak to NYkers who haven't been to the Rocking Horse Cafe before. I've been coming here since the early 90's and enjoying the great decor, food and service. Two things amaze me about the Horse. First, quite frankly, that they have managed to stay open for so long.
How many New York restaurants can you name that have been in businees 20 years? Which brings me to my second point.
I can honestly say that the food keeps on getting better and better. Which now that I think of it would explain the longevity...but I digress.
A customer since the early 90's I feel compelled to give thanks and wholeheartedly recommend the Rocking Horse Cafe to all who are tired of the same old Mexican food so common here in NYC. They have an ever-changing and creative menu. It pays homage to Mexican classics but at the same time infuses the standbys with creative sauces, delicious spices and decorative plating.
The drinks have always been and remain spectacular. I'm a traditionalist so I tend to go with Margaritas and Daquiris and I must say the Horse has the best around....not to mention that the bartenders pour their libations with a generous and customercentric hand...if you get my drift.
The atmosphere is warm, inviting and lively and when I have visiting guests it is always at the top of my list of places to visit.
Ok, I'm done praising the Horse. If I speak any more effusively I may no longer be able to get a table.
Pros: Atmosphere, strong-delicious drinks, service, value, friendliness
Cons: Sometimes you have to wait for a table

awesome dining experience
by jenniferm3
My favorite artist is Frida Kahlo, so eating at this restaurant was more than just another dinner out in nyc. I had the Frida Pomita - at the bar (a tasty pomgranate margarita with Frida tequila), ate some yummy homemade tortillas while listening to funky music. The warm colors on the walls, glowing lights, and mexican feel matched the delicate richness of the food. I truly appreciated the natural/free range entres which were affordable as well. The manager, bartender and waitstaff took care of us from the minute we walked in to the moment we left - which is rare in a packed New York restaurant. The main dish was scrumptuous, fresh, and had wonderful texture (mixiote slow cooked pork with mashed plantains and collard greens). It was my birthday, so they brought out an incredible chocolate desert topped with cinnamon ice-cream - the perfect ending to an awesome dining experience.

We love Rocking Horse for a great lively atmosphere and high quality artistic Mexican fare. The chips and salsa are amazing and can't have enough of the pomegranite enchilada's. I'm writing this because of the supurb exceptional experience we recently had. GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE
by kiwi07093
I went on a Thursday night and the place was packed! When I asked how long for a table I was told 10-15 minutes which I had no problem with so my partner and I went to the bar and had 2 margaritas which were great, here's where the pickyness in me comes out, I wanted salt with mine and didn't get it , I should have asked I guess, usually the request is for no salt but whatever because this is the only complaint I had, and honestly, complaint is really the wrong word, but if I didn't mention this then you more than likely wouldn't believe me, you would probably think that management wrote this review, yes people, it's a glowing review! We were sat in 10 minutes which was great as we've all been told wait times before and waited an eternity, not here. I really did not think that this place would be as great as it is. The food is amazing, I am not that up on Mexican food, I imagined burritos and tacos and was so surprised with how good it was. I went for the staple guacamole and was very happy, usually it has so much cilantro to over power it but here they know to control it, SUPERB!!! For my entree I had the hangar steak, PERFECT. I loved my meal!!!! All anyone can ask for is tasty food and this place delivers. I also have to say a big thanks to our server Kristin, she was always there, but never obtrusive, she is fantastic, I recommend you ask for her personally, she rocks!!!! So after rambling on, I really recommend this place, great food, great service, VERY WELL DONE!!!
Pros: Fantastic food

We went on a Friday night, the cafe was very busy but even so the service was fantastic.

by ahadro
This place has a very trendy and cozy atmosphere. The service was ridiculously fast, and always friendly.
Don't even get me started on the drinks, the bartenders make everything well and then make sure you are happy.
The tortilla chips are authentic and delicious, the only problem is eating too many and not being able to enjoy the incredible entrees. Every dish is unique in some way and does not give in to the stereotypes of mexican food.
Delicious.
Its easy to find and get to as well!
Pros: Great location, tasty food, great special drinks and incredibly friendly people!
Cons: Can be kind of pricy.

One word: Margarita!!!!
by cohenj11215
You never thought Mexican food can do THAT. Bold, bright and unusual flavors dominate every dish I tried here. Standard Mexican fare like guacamole is accompanied by three relishes that make it transcend its origins, while more sophisticated plates, like the beautiful crusted tuna, are all modern, but with a Mexcian kick. Service was fast, friendly and knowledgeable.
Pros: Fast service, great food.
Cons: Busy (Friday night)

Great Food....Great Atmosphere
by jennylou8702
It was my first evening in NYC and we wanted to grab a bite to eat. The friends that I was staying with took us to Rocking Horse Cafe as it was one of their favorite spots. Alfonso greeted us on our arrival and we felt immediately at home. The Margaritas are great. The bloodorange was my favorite. The food was exceptional, traditional Mexican with a twist. The carnitas were awesome as was the guacamole appetizer. We were in New York for 6 days and Rocking Horse Cafe was such a pleasant way to start to our trip that we went back on our last night to enjoy it all again. I will definitely come back the next time I am in New York.

Rocking Horse Cafe
by sueac1
Singing for my own supper has become a way of life, so anytime I'm treated to a meal by a friend is something of an event, regardless of the restaurant or its offerings. But my recent meal at Rocking Horse Cafe was an unexpected pleasure. The space is casual cool, and staff are knowlegeable and exceedingly welcoming. While clearly in the category of upscale Mexican, ingredients, flavors, and compositions honor the menu's pre-Columbian roots, and nothing feels fusion-silly. A salad of warm, grilled corn kernals over greens napped with lime vinegrette was perfect. Carnivores and foodies alike will appreciate entrees featuring free range chicken, organic salmon, and Niman Ranch pork. The Carne Guisado, - slow-cooked brisket with garlic mashed potatoes in chile-lime sauce - was fine and mellow. Deserts are also surprisingly good, and include a sharable Valrohan chocolate tortita and a lucious coconut flan. Although I'm not a tequila fan, the bottles lining the wall behind the bar impressed my companion, who sees himself as something of an expert in this area. Given the increasing numbers of fancified, overhyped, and overpriced south of the border joints popping up around town, I was expecting the same from Rocking Horse. Wrong. It's worth the trip, no matter who's buying.
Pros: friendly, knowledgeable staff, great Mexican flavors
Cons: none

The rosy hue & outre lighting provide a warm, intimate atmosphere at Rocking Horse Cafe. This zesty Chelsea dining spot offers up generous portions of subtly-flavored succulent food. (e.g. pulled pork, long-roasted, tender & yummy) A refreshing eye & palate-pleaser was the rainbow, tropical-flavored sorbet dessert. Kudos to the staff who aimed to please big-time . Returning is a must.
Pros: a really festive atmosphere with great food & service to top!

Chelsea's Rocking Horse Cafe manages to have a distinctive, inviting decor and a warm intimate look as well as personalized service offering helpful recommendations to patrons with special needs. Better yet, the food - generously served, interestingly sauced and spiced, cooked exactly as ordered is varied and eye pleasing. Meats and vegetables are tender and delicious and oh! the desserts. All this and a fun-loving young crowd with a sprinkling of hip older folks. Try it, you'll like it.
Pros: a great dining experience in chelsea

Margaritas to Die For!
by chris
People go to The Rocking Horse Cafe for the freshly baked tortilla chips and world class margaritas, they stay for the flavorful and create menu options and they return again for the family-like service. The staff at The Rocking Horse Cafe is friendly and welcoming and dining there is always a guaranteed good time. Lively atmosphere and modern, artsy decor keep the energy up in this Chelsea landmark.
Pros: Ambiance, Drinks, Freshly Made Tortillas Chips & Salsa
Cons: Can get a bit crowded on weekends due to it's popularity.

Rock on over to the Rocking Horse Cafe!
by craigbnyc
Though the Rocking Horse Cafe has become a place to see and be seen (celebrities are ofen just at the next table), it's well-worth the reservation (or drop-in if you're willing to wait) to experience the unique menu. It stands a head above the rest where Mexican cuisine is concerned and is a diamond in Chesea's tiara. From my appetizer of tamales de rajas y queso to the delicious "mixiote" entree, the dining experience was a complete pleasure. Great staff the night I was there! One caveat: if you prefer a quieter evening, plan your visit on Monday through Wednesday. The other nights are rockin' at the ol' Rocking Horse Cafe!
Pros: Incredble food, great service, delightful evening
Cons: If you don't like a loud crowd, go on M-W evenings or lunch, otherwise just jump in!

rocking restaurant

The Rocking Horse set the mood for a great evening with friends. The oranges and reds of the interior exude warmth and the music matches the upbeat chatter of the hip dining crowd. The bar serves up cocktails with a lively kick. The deliciously singular bits of mahi mahi swimming in coconut milk, ripe plantains, red onions, jalapenos and cilantro melted in my mouth. And the dashing server was the spitting image of Gael Garcia Bernal as he rode a motorbike up the Argentinian coast. A Chelsea restaurant can't get more festive or flamboyant than this.

Can't Wait to go Back
by josh2102
My friend and I had dinner for the first time at Rocking Horse the other night and it was fantastic. The entire staff was very knowledgeable of all their entrees and was more than happy to explain several of the dishes to us. Even more impressive than their steak burritos and camarones con papaya are their selection of margaritas. Our waitress surprised us with a White Peach margarita and a Carmen Miranda (made with El Tesoro Silver and pineapple puree). The drinks were so good we had two more rounds! For a fun place with great food, drinks and a wait-staff that?s as hot as their spicy chips and salsa- I recommend Rocking Horse Cafe.
