so yea i do see this shop giving attitude with people and yea sometimes the staff overcharge people for no reason and sometimes see them cursing at people but i dont have a problem with them. one time I went to unlock my bike that was in 82nd street between Columbus and Amsterdam... and saw that someone had backed their car over my back wheel. ANYWAY he fact is that I brought my bike in at about 6:30 PM and when I called at 1:30 PM the next day it was good to go. They was nice to me and i was happy that my bicycle was fixed. ALSO from what i learn THE STORE DONT RENT BICYCLES TO PEOPLE so idk what that person said.. what im trying to say is that i didnt have problem with the store. i saw other people having problems but i never had a problem. and my friend comes here to and she said she never had a problem too. one more thing, if one of u bastards think that im a employee that trying to give the store good rating then u can shut up because im 15. its ur problem that u have a bad experience and bring ur anger to the internet. but i know some dumbass will said that im a employee, just watch.

I live in the neighborhood and had my eye on a cruiser in the shop for a year. Finally decided to take the plunge and buy it; price tag $879. They rang it up as $1000. When I pointed out the price tag on the bike says $879 the big fat guy cops an ugly attitude with me. ""Well the price tag is wrong"", half shouting, condescendingly tells me that I?m lucky it?s only $1000; it retails for $1200 and it?s ""on Sale"". Meanwhile, there?s NO ""Sale!"" or ?Price Reduced!? sign anywhere; just the same dusty old tag that?s been hanging on the bike for the past year. I go home and check the internet and the bike retails for $879. I think the bottom line is; they decided to overcharge me because they saw I really wanted the bike. The worst part of the encounter was attitude of the manager, he?s the big fat guy; rude, condescending, antagonistic, tough shi* attitude ~ just putrid.

A mother and young daughter were trying to rent bikes to ride in Central park. The bike that they gave the girl had a broken brake lever that was hanging off. I will never forget this. She asked him if it was ok and he started screaming at her and then dropiing f-bombs at the mother. Customers in the store were shocked. We left and will never ever go back. Shame on that overweight man at the front counter for doing that. Just the image of the little girl crying is enough to to stop future visits. AVOID WITH YOUR LIFE

I went into this place for a simple adjustment and they took my bike and did a bunch of unsolicited work on it then tried to charge me for it. I didn't pay for any of the extra stuff, but could tell they weren't used to customers questioning their work-now-bill-later policy.

Pros: Cool bikes, great location

Cons: Customer service

. . . that about sums it up. Why bore you with the details? Suffice it to say that I'm a veteran rider/racer/mechanic who needed help with a minor emergency and made the mistake of asking them for a helping hand. . . Only a true masochist would submit themselves to the humiliation these evil little devils gleefully rain down on any innocent fool who stumbles into their miserable little bicycle hell. How they stay in business is a complete mystery to me. A good location near Central Park in a high-rent neighborhood, perhaps? Anyway. . . Abandon hope all ye who enter here. You've been warned!

Pros: Near Museum of Natural History (forget this place and visit the planetarium)

Cons: Rude, mean-spirited, and utterly miserable staff.

Agree with the other reviewers. This place just stinks. I took my road bike in to see if they could diagnose a noise it was making, and after about 45 minutes of ""looking at it"" I had to practically grab the guy by the collar to ask him if they were able to deduce anything. He practically blew me off. Then the aloof repair guy wheeled out my bike and said he didn't find anything, but tightened some things. I took the bike outside for a test ride -- the sound was still there. They did nothing. Bottom line is, steer clear of this place. It looks great from the outside, is in a great location, but is simply a terrible place to shop. If you're in the neighborhood and need a bike or checkup go over to Eddie's Bikes at 83rd and Amsterdam. They're much smaller, but very friendly and helpful, especially if you need a quick repair. And, you may want to check out one of Sid's Bikes location (Chelsea or East Side). They have a bit of an attitude, but have a good selection and are knowledgeable.

The only way this shop might still be in business is through rentals by tourists? My experience totally mimicks the other bad reviews I've read on other sites. Unfortuntatley, I didn't read them until I wasted 4 trips to this store.

Pros: Inventory?

Cons: poor rude service

I honestly think that Fattsman (who wrote the positive review below) must be one of Bicycle Renaissance's managers. I've had multiple bad experiences at this store, and I've heard numerous horror stories from others who've tried to patronize the place. I've finally given up on it, despite its convenience to my home. I'd honestly rather drive my bike up to Piermont Bicycles than walk it over to BR.

Overall a great bike shop. If you buy a bike from them, they will give you lifetime free tune-ups (e.g, brake and cable adjustments, minor repair). With bike tuning costing around $30 - $40 a pop, this service is great. When I bought my bike, I didn't really know what to get, but I based my decision on both the recommendations from the store and also by test riding like 4-5 bikes. Take advantage of test rides as there is a little park across the street where you can ride around. The best time to drop by is on the weekdays as the weekends are CRAZY busy. The store being so crowded with merchandise doesn't help either.

They have a good selection of mountain bikes and hybrid bikes. The prices are not great bargains, but the staff is friendly and helpful and patient in explaining the different features.

This is probably the worst bicycle sales team I've ever met. They suggested a bike for me and told me that it was the only bike in the market that I could buy for my size. This was completely not true. I've been to other bike dealers since and have been given a large number of suggestions. Just because it is the only bike in the store that is my size doesn't mean they should tell that this is the only bike in the market that is my size. I understand that they want to make a sale, but lying is not the way to go.
