Darbys WAS a really fun place to go on a Friday night, have some drinks. The food was never that great, not a big selection and very pricey. They just went out of business so no more darbys.

The food was great. The wait staff was exceptional. The owners wife was borderline hostile. She obviously does not like children. We brought my nieces (ages 5 & 6) after a day of Zoom Flume. While we waited for our order, we kept them occupied outside far away from everyone. She was outside smoking a cigarette. She spoke to me. I didn't get a hello. I didn't get a where are you from? Her first words were "How much sugar did you give them?" (My niece was spinning...away from everyone, not another customer at that end of the outside deck, and she is 5) It just got worse from there. A comedy of spills (by the adults, mind you), my other niece got wet and uncomfortable and so was standing next to her chair minding her business, silent, and the owners wife came over and questioned why she wasn't sitting and eating and said she was too wired. Mind you, my niece had already finished eating and was just uncomfortable sitting. And (I believe the owners wife was named Su) didn't even say it to the adults, she said it to a six year old, quietly so we only heard part of what she said. My niece was very upset. She had nightmares all night about a witch. Let me tell you, my nieces have been going to restaurants weekly since they were born. They know when to play and when not to. In a restaurant, no playing. Outside on a restaurant deck, if there is noone around. And they follow the rules or they don't go to another restaurant. They are not perfect, but they are very good. Overall, it was Very disappointing for an Irish Pub where tradition dating from the old country is to bring the family. Very disappointing when the locals all consider it family friendly establishment and told us to bring the kids. Needless to say, we warned the hotel owners where we were staying not to recommend Darby's again to families with children.

Darby's has in an incredible atmosphere and five star food!
Sean is a superb host and chef who always greets his customers with a smile. The food is out of this world, the price can't be beat, and the atmosphere is just what we are looking here in East Durham. Darby's has a cozy dining room, an upbeat bar area, and tables outside where you can enjoy the warm summer nights. Open all year round, Darby's is the perfect place for a quiet date, or a night out with the girls (or guys). I highly recommend you stop in and see Sean!
