they were okay, after we got the keys out of the car we had to come here and meet with our mom to have lunch and go over Diane's suprise birthday party. The waitress was great and she was very funny too!

After moving out here from California, this was my first exposure to a non-NYC wine bar, and I have to agree with a lot of positives that have been written. Prices are justified and the wine selection is broad enough for my palate to find comfort and adventure.

The bartender was sensible about wines and hip without being pretentious. This is a stop that I will make again.

Pistachio Pesto Crostoni is the most amazing dish ever! I come here as often as I can, just for that. Don't miss it! A super place for a date, a glass of wine after work, or a late night cheese snack.

This place is very vegetarian friendly. As a vegetarian I highly recommend it. I have written a longer review on my blog. Check it out at www.urbanherbivores. The review is under the same heading as what I have here.

I stumbled into this place on a rainy weekend night when all of my usual Williamsburg spots were overrun with Hipsters, and I'm glad I did. They were about to close, but the staff was very accomodating and made me feel at home. It is very warm, cozy, and candle lit inside and gives you the feeling of an old world mom & pop place. I usually get bread & olive oil, and olives when I go to an Italian restaurant. What I got was this amazing flatbread, a chunk of the most delicous parmesan I've ever had, and some really tasty olives, not to mention the wine, which just brought together the whole experience. The staff was so warm and friendly, even though I could tell they were about to close. What a great experience, can't wait to go back!

D.O.C. wine bar is about as close to Italy as one can get amidst the hubbub of the Williamsburg social scene. With perfect lighting, low ceilings, candlelit tables, and a myriad of coloured place settings, this restaurant lifts the air right out of Sardinia and drops it back into Brooklyn so the wine-sippers and dinner-goers can step into a little secluded world for a couple of hours. Unlike many hip Italian restaurants popping up off Bedford, D.O.C. is not overrun with hipsters, the waitstaff is totally friendly, and the portions are filling. Plus there's a beautiful selection of wine. Perfect for a romantic date or meeting all your friends for a three course celebration, you can't go wrong with this place. Cent'Anni!

If you love Italian food and Italians, "the real ones" you must try this wine bar !!!
The food is great and they have an incredibly interesting Italian wine selection, The last time we had the best Italian chardonnay I ever had, Jermann Dreams and a wonderful wine from Sardinia suggested by our waiter, everyone was so friendly and warm, they made us feel like we were visiting old friends ....(and we were even given a wonderful tour of the new place next door when we asked if they had any space for private parties).....
I loved it, I applaud a place in NY that can be amazing and simple at the same time.

The appeal is cozy, tables decorated with fresh produce, a rustic elegance that greets you as soon as you walk in the door. The warm ambience allowed us an escape from the cold, very windy night. Throughout our dinner , the service was excellent, our waitress was friendly, attentive, and helpful, giving us suggestions and answering our questions about the menu. While the wine and food blew us away, the bill did not ,prices are reasonable.
I highly recommend DOC to anyone looking for an amazing experience.

My date and I went to DOC Wine Bar this past Friday and had a lovely time (despite our waitress who apparently disliked us, but more on that later). Our waitress recommended a a wonderful glass of red wine for me that I loved and ordered for the rest of the night (and I'm usually a white wine drinker) and she recommended my date a nice glass of white. After our order was taken and water brought to the table, service seemed to go downhill. She forgot two of our dishes - the prosciutto with melon and plate of cheeses (and what's wine without cheese?!) - and after we finished our second glass of wine, she whisked our glasses off the table and didn't ask if we wanted another glass (which we did). We sat for about 20 minutes sipping water and trying to get her attention, which we never got. Luckily the other two waiters were very nice and friendly - we were given a dessert menu (upon request) and he took our order - dessert wine (moscato d'asti, yum!), tiramisu and salame di chocolate (?) - both was which was rich and delicious. (We wouldn't have ordered two desserts normally, but felt we had to because we hadn't gotten two of the dishes we had originally ordered.) After that, our servers seemed to have changed from our originally waitress to the man who took our dessert order because he came over to our table occasionally to see how we were doing, exchanging friendly banter with my date and even took a picture for us... until she placed the check on our table (NOT upon request). OVERALL however, we loved the ambiance, the food & the wine and, at times, even that we were left alone to talk and enjoy each other's company... just wondering why our waitress seemed not to want to serve us - maybe because we didn't order a bottle? Though we did drink enough to be monetarily equivalent to getting a bottle - or we would have, had she not just whisked away our glasses without a backward glance at us.

My boyfriend and I visited Doc wine bar last week for an intimate dinner for two in the outdoor-dining. Our evening was great starting off with glass of Prosecco for me and a glass of the special white wine for my boyfriend.WE had the special salad, which was delicious and the home made bread and cheese gnocchi, which was an unusual plate, simple but phenomenal. We finished with a desserts...tiramisu,amazing, and a chocolate mousse with pistacchio..heaven for me, paring with a glass of dessert wine, (was a good advice from our waiter). The service was great and greeted every customer with a smile. I would go back to Doc wine bar any time because great food and great people makes for a great time.I will celebrate my birthday here, my friends are going to love DOC like us.

I really went for the Capresse Salad my roommate recomended, and found great wine, friendly service, and romantic Atmosfere!!! Angelo the waiter was really nice and helpful with the wine selection, the Tiramisu was a little too creamy (I expected amazing) I will totally go back but I would love it if they took credit card... my date had to walk to the closest ATM, we didn't know it was a cash only (oops!) But definitely worth it.

This is by far one of my favorite spots in NYC. I have been here time and again, and never dissapointed. My one complaint is that the service can be a bit slow, but I tend to use this as an excuse to savor the rustic candlelit atmosphere and savor my wine. The cheese and italian cold cuts plate for two is awesome, the olives are great, and the panini and salds the best. My personal favorite is the mozzarella and tomato caprese- I've never tasted better mozarella in my life. a real gem!

i've been there again on friday after a long time and i forgot how brilliant this place is. i got there at around 10 and place was still crowded, so we started at the bar with a glass of prosecco. the waiter was really nice chatting with us while he was hand washing the gorgeous wine glasses. he explained us that he has been working there since the beginning and that he just loves working there because it reminds him of italy..... i was just stunned by his genuine simple view of the place.... just like home he said.
matter of fact beig there was like having a round trip to italy...pnly a very short one.
it's all about the vibe!!!
when we sat at the big communal table i decided to go all the way without thinking to much at my limited budget and so i ordered a bottle of very fine aglianico from southern italy. while opening the bottle the same waiter from before told us that they mark up that bottle less than anyone else just because they love that wine (isn't that crazy!!!)

anyhow the food was really amazing my friend took a special pasta dish and a salad and i just loved the special cheese platter and the meat platter....perfect match with my wine.

honestly the bill was 90 dollars and we left 140 on the table....just because that night was food for our souls!!

thank you again diego

Pros: GREAT VIBE AMAZING WINE LIST AND AUTHENTIC ITALIAN FOOD

Cons: NONE

This is my favorite restaurant, period. Whenever I go to DOC I have a fantastic time. It's like home away from home. However, it's not for everyone. The menu is limited to very simple Sardinian specialties. They offer about 40 wines, but they're all Italian. You won't find a California pinot among them. But if you want to experience a relaxed, friendly staff serving unusual and rustic regional dishes then this is the place for you. Some of my favorites: the daily pastas are delicious. Try the pistokku bresaola or the anchovy crostini. Very often they have great specials, like the lasagna or the venison pate crostini. And the special cheese course is delicious as well (love that truffle cheese!) Have a glass of cannonau and don't forget the tirimisu, it's the best I've ever had, and I'm not a huge tirimisu fan, either. Basically it's a lot like what I imagine an italian village restaurant must be like, with a few Williamsburg hipsters tossed in. It's best for groups of 6 or fewer, but they can accomodate larger groups (maybe up to 12) at their big table in the back. The whole restaurant is pretty small, but they are planning an expansion in the fall so they should be better at taking groups.

Sitting on the corner of Nth 7th and Whythe, D.O.C Wine Bar is an exceptionally cozy little spot. The array of vino is impressive and they offer some delectable dishes. It's a tad pricy though; a decent bottle of wine and a platter of cheese and meats set us back $60 incl tip.

the decor and food are actually very good. but now i have learned the importance of SERVICE! i believe our server was also the proprietor. he was the worst server ever!! he clearly makes you feel unwelcomed and that you are bothering him by being there. he forgot one entree, forgot the 2nd bottle of wine, forgot to bring bread, we had to go to the kitchen on our own for the salt, vingar and oil. charged us $40 to bring in a cupcake for our friend's birthday, but did not advise this outrageous price. DON'T WASTE YOU MONEY HERE. spend your money at another place that actually appreciates your business.

perfect date spot. we were able to seat promptly. deeply enjoyed the charm of a waiter like only in Italy you can find, ready to give suggestions about wine and food

Service is casual and friendly and yet professional, the waiters are always ready to give helpful suggestions.

we had the selection of special cheeses along with a carpaccio and e nice salad with figs all topped with a bargain, super nice, 50$ bottle of fine Montepuciano gently suggest by the waiter.
I paid a 100 for the both of us dessert included and the I had probably on of the most smooth and intense dates of my life.

I can't keep my paws off these tiramisus! Local legend has it the owner stole the recipe from his grammy while she had her back turned, stirring up a pot of fregola back home in Sardegna. Williamsburg is lucky to have a little nook like this one holding down the fort with heaps of cheeses and meats, crispy flatbreads and damn good italian wines by the bucket, all perfectly priced and paired with just the best atmosphere. Bring your date and share a tagliere, but better to get 2 tiramisus...

It wouldn't be a Friday night without stopping in for a glass of Dolcetto or any one of the excellant wine choices that Diego or Claudio can offer. The Panini sandwiches are on bread that is a carboholics dream come true. Must try the thinly sliced Sardinian bread. The overall warmth and friendliness of the zany staff and owners make it a weekly ritual for us. Any creation that chef Stefano has on the menu is worth asking for seconds to go! Always has a fun crowd and definatley worth the wait! Luv you guys...

Inventive food and warm atmosphere. Don't believe the postings about bad service--this place gets busy and requires a little patience but the service is overall very good. If you want a waiter hovering over you, go somewhere else and I will gladly take your seat.

Pros: , wine and food

One of the things I like is that they recognize you and call you by your name. The chef is sweet, friendly.
Anytime of the night don't be surprised if all staff starts to dance and then you feel like if you are partying at your best-friends house.

finally at home !! YES ! D.O.C. remains one of my favorite wine bar in New York. The wine is always memorable, fairly inexpensive, and the atmosphere is cozy and comforting. Rossana & Claudio, the owners are from Sardinia, so the wine, decor and accents are genuine and evoke memories of this special area.
The menu is diverse and the food is excellent. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is great! Best bar in williamsburg!!!

I totally dug this place. They've done a top-notch job. Great wine list, well thought out menu, helpful service, nice atmosphere (feels like Europe), PLUS good value. What more can you ask for in a wine bar?

Unfortunately, the quality of the vino can easily lead you towards spending more than you'd like. With a bit of restraint, however, you can easily drop $15 on a glass and a panino.

Only real complaint is that the panini tended to be a bit on the dry side. I tasted three of them. Could have been the cook that day, who knows. This already great place could be even better if they'd simply drizzle some extra virgin olive oil over the top of each sandwich or supply a small bottle of EVOO on each table.

We LOVE this place. Thank god they don't take credit cards or we'd be in bankruptcy court. Awesome authentic italian meats and cheeses. Only complaint is the menu is a little homogenized for american tastes, so if you are looking for adventurous flavors you might be a little disappointed, but will quickly forget when you dive into what you ordered. Who knew ham and cheese could be so lucious? This place is the bar alternative when you are interested in a good bottle of wine and good conversation, instead of getting drunk/laid like the majority of the williamsburg NYU/Pratt bar scene. We now cannot wait to go to Sardinia! Staff is so nice! Prices are fair! Get the Taglieri DOC platter for two.

Great food, especially the special pistoku with the most amazing bresala, goat cheese and pesto sauce. I like the fact that they have a great assortment on wines by glass.Their panini are the best I've had, warm and crispy. Service is excellent.

Delicious! The food here is amazing...and fun. Fresh and authentic- I felt like I was in Italy! Its romantic and the staff is great ...the chef even came out and joked around with us. I'd heard about the place and originally went out to try the wines but will return for the food! This is a real Sardinian place! Try the cascatta!

The outside does not look as appealing as the inside rustic Italian vibe. The panini was delicious. We did not get a cheese plate however, next time I go I would love to try it. I saw many people ordering it and it looked good.
The friendly service was by far the best part. I would deifntely make the hike back to Williamsburg.

this is a great little place. The only flaw is the wine is all stored at a very high temperature, which really brings down the quality of the wine. If they could cure this problem, it would be a perfectly great place for the evening!
Wines by the glass are awesome!
