I'll tell ya the real deal about Areo's. I'm a lifetime Bay Ridger so I know all about it. \r

Areo's is where you go to be seen. It's trendy, people come dressed all schnazzed up and there's always really expensive cars double parked

Pros: Great food

Cons: Loud, non-attentive waiters

What's not to like about this 3rd avenue gem? The food and staff are perfect. I have even stopped in on a mid-Saturday afternoon and enjoyed ice cold Peroni beer. The friendly environment made me want to stay for dinner. This is the top Italian place in Brooklyn.

I was so surprised to read the totally out of line comments by a couple of the previous posters. I am not a local Brooklynite. A friend of my family's introduced me to Areo's years ago and I have been returning excitedly ever since. It

I'm from Beverly Hills and my Kenarsie, Brooklyn raised wife insisted we try Areo on a recent visit. I guess we arrived early because there was no line and the host didn't seem to mind that we were picky about our table. Waiters are fast and totally disinterersted the customers. I speak Italian and tried that on my Italian waiter. He replied in Italian but even that didn't inspire any kind of special connection to us. The decor, furnishings and so forth are dated and not fresh and not memorable. The food is standard, generic, neighborhood trattoria fare, no better quality or more creative than you'll find at corporate chains like Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill. Definitely not a gourmet dining experience. Prices are definitely high for the quality, but nobody should be suprised about bad value in NYC. Nevertheless, the bar scene is a show unto itself. It seemed as if everyone hanging out there was a perfect casting for The Sopranos. Men all wore flashy suits or jackets and glitzy watches, rings, and other jewelry. All deez guys twak wit da usual tortored New Jowzy accent and loudly. It's amazing to see these middle-age men who seem to be best friends, enjoying affectionate and long hugs, kisses, and revelling in little jokes and assorted ball-busting. Cadillac must love deez guys...no imports for deez guys. By the way, this Sopranos clientele is generally cordial and willing to let strangers play into their conversations. I was sorry to leave but I didn't want to get wacked for hogging a bar stool. It probably helped that my wife speaks with an extreme Brooklyn accent. So, enjoy it for the fun and games but not the food or restaurant service or decorations.

SIMPLY THE BEST..The Food is Fantastic, Great Service, and a Great Atmosphere. We live in NJ and try to go as often as possible over the past 10 years. It has always been consistant and we are never disappointed. Nothing else compares to their entrees of Lamb Shank and the Pasta w/ Shrimp & Procuitto in a tomato cream sauce, that is baked and served in foil. Everything is delicious..from appetizers to the desserts. We can't wait for the next time!

THE FOOD IS GREASY, BAD QUALITY. THE NAPKINS ON THE TABLE AND A PLACE ITSELF SMELL LIKE AN OLD, DIRTY, ANTI-SANITARY KITCHEN WITH GERMS.
THE NOISE LEVEL IS SO BAD, YOU CANT' EVEN TALK, TABLES ARE ONE ON TOP OF THE OTHER.
THE WAITERS WILL NOT REMOVE EMPTY DISHES FROM YOUR TABLE, UNTIL YOUR WILL TRY CALLING AND ASKING THEM.
MCDONALD'S - IS A GOURMET FOOD COMPARED TO "AREO".
THAT PLACE IS A PRACTICAL JOKE, I THOUGHT I WAS ON "BOILING POINTS" MTV SHOW, WHERE EVERYTHING IS WRONG. PLACE HAS NO VENTILATION, IT'S HOT AND SMELLS REALLY BAD.

This food is so good. It is so unfortunate, I have never heard of this restaurant before going. We had passed it and decided it looked good. We walked in and the Italian Food was wonderful. I will definitely be coming back to this place.

I've been eating at Areo for at least 15 to 20 years. Along the way I've closed the place for a family party. The place was extraordinary. I will never forget one evening I had fresh sardines. Anyway, those days are gone.

I was there last night. The same crowd is still there (the Sopranos). I ordered a tricolore. Incredibly, it appeared as a mound on a full size plate with about half of it consisting of chunks of endive. Where was the arugala? Obviously somewhere else.

The entree I ordered certainly read well: duck in grappa with dried cherries. Here's what came: one huge brown mound -- the whole plate a brown mound, OK? -- consisting of perfectly matching brown duck, brown gravy, mounds of unidentifiable brown stuff, sitting on mashed potatoes. The duck was overcooked. It all tasted identical. Like cardboard. To seek escape from this Italian horror, I ordered key lime pie. A nice slice of pie might be just the thing. Wrong. I got a key lime TART. With 4 squirts of whipped cream around it on the plate.

Mmmm.

Pros: Watch low level goons and their girlfriends eat food.

Cons: Food.

Areo is a "Wannabee Manhattan" restaurant in Brooklyn which is way overpriced and overrated.
The portions are like "NOUVELLE- Italian", ( very small portions) The service is despicable with lots of bad attitude and rudeness. In my opinion, their rave reviews are totally unwarranted and the food isnt even authentic Italian cuisine. The sauces are too salty and the veal dishes were tough and very bad.
The place is noisy, uncomfortable and i felt as though i couldnt wait to get out of there. The tables are on top of one another and the noise level is extremely high and obnoxious. The desserts are bad as well.
Go somewhere else and save your hard earned cash

a group of us went to eat at Areo and it was a very positive experience. The service was excellent. The atmosphere as very inviting and relaxing. The food was delicious. I had gnocchi and the sauce was surprisingly good. My nephew had the lobster ravioli and that was also delicious. We were a table of ten people and everyone was very happy with their order. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I have been to Areo's for special occasions several times over the past few years. It is upscale, and on the expensive side, but I have to say that they are simply the BEST all around. The food is scrumptuous--some of the best I've ever had--from the appetizers to the desserts. Your palate will thank you, and you will want to go back, believe me. This restaurant recently saved the day for us, as well. We had reservations at another local Italian restaurant for after my daughter's baptism, and they decided that they couldn't seat us after all--even though I had made reservations a month in advance. My husband called Areo's, and as busy as they were, they went out of there way and were able to accommodate 15 of us, comfortably. We were so grateful! This is a restaurant where you normally need reservations, but they went above and beyond. We were all treated like royalty--the staff is phenomenal. SUCH nice people! I would definitely recommend making a reservation--you must try this restaurant!!!!
