Two Canadians who had never been to NYC before & a New Yorker with two fuzzy kids just loved our meal at Empire. Even the kids, who are usually unwilling to stray from the tried & familiar, found two new dishes they really enjoyed in our selection. The setting is simple but pleasant & the service was good. We were thoroughly satisfied. In addition, we found the pricing to be very reasonable. We would definitely visit again!

the ribs were coated in a drippy, greasy red sauce that wouldn't wash off my fingers. the cyrstal shrimp dumplings were mooshy but crunched at the wrong times.

I've been there three or four times for dinner. The food is fresh, well-prepared, and attractively presented. The prices are okay for non-Chinatown New York. But the tone and attitude of the people could use major improvement. The hostess seems like she is an unhappy person, and like my showing up has made her more so. When I eat out, I like to feel welcome and I like to feel like my business is appreciated.

I wouldn't go out of my way to avoid this place, but given how nicely I am treated at other places in the neighborhood (like Funayama and Gobo), it's far from the top of my list.

I've been here dozens of times, especially when I was still going to school in the Village and the menu featured 1/2-price sushi. During the discount sushi days, it was a pretty no-frills space- always clean, but cafeteria-like. You didn't go for the ambience or decor or service- you went for the good deal on sushi and sashimi. Went in a year ago and realized that it had been nicely spruced up- nothing radical or eye-popping- but nice accented with some touches of red, nicer tables, better lighting, and revamped bathrooms. In exchange for the better look- no more 1/2 price sushi. The prices now are more in-line with many other sushi places but this is still one of my places of choice because the price is still fair, I've never gotten bad fish, and you can't beat the location.

Pros: good price and good sushi, convenient location!

Cons: no more half-price deals.
