I love a great mani/pedi and always on the hunt for a great nail salon. I read about Dashing Diva and was intrigued by all the great review in magazines. I have passed Dashing Diva on many occassions but never thought about going in. It just looked to animated and cutesy for me. Not my idea of a relaxing spa experience.

Again, intrigued by the magazine reviews I decided to try it out. I have had many mani/pedi from various nail salons from the Bronx (where I live) to Manhattan and Brooklyn. I have had really good services and bad services. I am a pro (most women are) at what a great mani/pedi is.

So, I go on a Sunday and it was pretty empty. I chose my color and waited a couple of minutes. My manicurist was not very friendly and only fake smiled a few times. She did not pay attention to my cuticles as listed in the menu of services. The best thing about the pedicure was the 10 minute massage that I paid an extra $15. The manicure was just plain awful. She barely pushed back in cuticles. She got much friendlier when it was time for me to pay. I'm thinking this is tip time.

Cut to the chase, the nail polish is cheap. My nails beganing chipping the next day. Not a little chip but totally chipping off. Prior to writing this review I removed the nail polish only to find that the polish stained my nails. Not happy at all.

Bottom line, try if you want to but for me it was not worth it. Will not be going back. I have paid less for way better service.

Pros: Walking distance to shopping and dining

Cons: Expensive, Not a comfortable atmosphere

A few things about this salon stood out to me. First and foremost it's extremely hygienic. You get your own pedi/mani pack opened right in front of your face, they don't use jacuzzi pedi tubs, as they harbor bacteria, they use a antibacterial hand-wash on clients and technicians, and everything (towels etc..) are warmed to a bacteria killing temperature before being placed on your skin.

The quality of the mani/pedis is outstanding. My brother gave me a gift certificate for my birthday. The treatments included were "Dashing-Diva Manicure", which was great and the "Spoiled Diva Pedicure." The Spoiled Diva Pedicure set the bar for phenomenal pedicures. It was the most relaxing, invigorating soothing pedicure I've ever received. I'd highly recommend that treatment. My feet are as soft as a baby's. My nail technician was polite and meticulous. She expertly applied my polish, rid my nails of cuticles, and shaped my nails perfectly. On top of that she gave me the best leg, foot and hand massage.

I wish I would have tipped her more, but unfortunately money is VERY tight for me right now. The polish still looks great, my only complaint is that the polish takes FOREVER to dry. My nails were under the UV dryer for 30 minutes.

I had 6 girls go for manis and pedis for my sister's bacheloretter party. I called in advance a few weeks and very easily reserved a time. We were attended to right away and had the whole pedicure section to ourself. We brought champagne and plastic glasses and cookies appropriate for the occasion and had a great time. The decor is very pink, and very cute.

DO NOT WAX HERE!
At first glance Dashing Divas seems so pretty and sanitary but this is not so. I went there this afternoon for a semi-bikini wax (which I was told was $35). The first thing she did when I got in was grab a pair of huge, unsanitized industrial scissors (the kind you use to cut heavy cloth materials!!) and trimmed the area. The only reason I didn't stop her was because I froze in horror. She then proceeded to wax and stopped after a short while and said she was done. When I looked down it was practically still all there and not shaped up at all. I had to tell her to take more off and also do the backside. oh and she didn't wear any gloves.Long story short...when I went to pay the bill was for $62 when I was told it was 35$. They said I had done a full brazillian which I hadnt and then they said it was a $10 extra charge for the back! After I argued with him a bit he cancelled the credit transaction and re-charged me for a semi-wax instead of full. To top it off the lady was basically breathing on me to give her a tip. So i was charged twice on my card and am now overdrawn! DO NOT GO HERE FOR WAXING OR AT ALL FOR THAT MATTER!!! IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! MESSED UP MY SUNDAY!

My friend and I ended up at the Dashing Diva on Memorial Day. I was very happy with the service and final product at Dashing Diva. I got a manicure with a French polish. The lady who was doing my nails was very thorough and precise with applying the French polish. My only comment is that the lady chose the base color, sheer pink. I would have preferred a sheer light beige color instead. The polish lasted only a week before it started to chip and wear away which is fine and I think typical (i don't normally get manicures). I thought the price was fair for the French polish. I would go back there again.

DO NOT LET THEM DO YOUR EYEBROWS!

I am generally an easygoing person and would only write this type of 'negative' review under extreme circumstances. I was in the shop this afternoon, which I previously had no problems with, and the person who waxed my eyebrow took the entire outer half of my eyebrow *OFF*! I am not making this up...I hadn't had any problems before-- in fact, the other 3-4 times I'd been there, they had done an excellent job. I won't be going back.

That being said, they seem to be fine for nails, especially the Virtual Nails, and the service is excellent for the price. Just heed my warning about the eyebrow waxing...

I have never had a problem at Dashing Diva, both with regular manicures and with the Virtual Nails that they offer. I have only had to wait 15 minutes max for a seat and I have always been treated well. Their Virtual Nails are a bit pricey ($35 for a fitting, application and manicure), but I can really only see them being practical for people who want nails for a short-term special occasion. They lasted a long time (almost two weeks!) and I got lots of compliments. A regular manicure is $15 and I think that for this price you get a really nice manicure. I know that you can go to other "salons" in the city and get a manicure for $7, but the quality and cleanliness just isn't there. My manicures last a really long time, not showing the slightest chip until at least 3 days in. Even at that they still look great! Finally, I love that they offer a student discount! 10% off never hurts my broke college student wallet!

Much more expensive than what it's worth; terriblly ignorant regarding hurting the skin they do while buffing; no real hand message - it was rather a rub! Gel nail is an art and not everybody can do it. They have sculpt my nails each in differnt shape and form than the other! The French tips are horribly inconsistent and irregular, too. They wanted me to bring them back the buff next time!

I really like this place, the way it looks, whole place smells nice and clean...but it is such a hassle to go past the counter. One day you go they say you have to make an appointment, next time you call to make an appoinment, they say they dont accept appointments for short treatments, one day you have the approved appopintment you go, they tell you although you have the appointment they dont keep it , you have to wait until somebody is available.
If this keep repeating itself I am seriously considering not to step into this nice salon. What a pity..

what i like about the dashing diva are the hours and the nail polish selection, as well as the nice atmosphere. they make all their own manicure products, which work well, and they have 150 polish colors to choose from, for every kind of taste and mood. i never go to a nail salon expecting to get relaxed, but that is exactly what happens when i go to the dashing diva. when i am there i feel as if i am escaping for a bit, because the place is so quiet and nicely decorated and the staff is very calm and friendly. you don't get the sense that they are rushing you out of there at all. i like their spacious, hot pink terrycloth pedicure sofas bedecked with pillows -- they are so much nicer than the weird brown pleather chairs that other places have. i also like the fact that they have sinks where your feet don't touch the bottom -- a nice touch for those who don't like the usual whirlpool tubs. and my mani and pedi always turn out perfect -- smoothly polished and nicely shaped nails, and the polish is nice and thick and lasts more than the average cheap manicure. and they do offer something above the regular nails and waxing places that permeate manhattan. they are a little more expensive, but a basic manicure there isn't just about your nails -- they exfoliate and moisturize the skin on your hands and forearms and infuse the scrub and the lotion with a scented oil of your choice -- lavender and eucalyptus are the ones i remember but they have two more scents. their dashing diva oil at the dryer counter is a great product -- not like the essie oil most places use, it dries and hardens the polish but doesn't make your fingers and toes all oily. altogether a very nice complete experience.

I was able to make a last minute appointment for Full Brazillian Bikini wax. I was taken in early, didn't even have to wait. The waxer was smiley and friendly which was nice. However, I'm not sure if this place knows what a brazillian bikini wax is. She took everything off of the "front" and told me it would be $10 more for other areas. I said fine, and she proceeded to wax the inner thigh area.. but nothing further. Maybe I am confused but usually when I get a brazilian it means you get EVERYTHING taken off (unless you tell them not to) front and back and you don't have to pay extra. So I spent $70 but still didn't get half of the waxing that I normally get. To top that off, I had a lot of irritation and a mild rash from the wax they used. (btw no gloves, and they redipped the same spatula).

Too risky here. Very mediocre. I really don't recommend it if you are hoping for something great. Go somewhere better for your money.
Trust me, there will never be a next time there. Save your money.

I've been to Dashing Diva several times over the last two years. I am shocked to read all the negative reviews, because I've always had great experiences. I've gotten their Basic manicures/pedicures, Diva mani/pedis, Virtual Nails, and even a 10-minute back/neck massage once, and they were all great. And I went once with a friend on a Friday night and we had so much fun sipping Cosmos and chatting the entire time. It'd be nice to have a longer massage during the manicures & pedicures, but I don't mind too much since my nails always look great when I leave and that's really the point. And the polish lasts longer than any other mani/pedi I've ever had. Maybe it's because I'm careful to stay under the driers for a loooooong time. Most of the times I go in there I'm wearing closed-toe shoes so I want to make sure my toes are really dry before I put my shoes back on. In addition, everyone has always been very nice, from the front desk receptionist to the nail technicians. My only complaint, but this is with nearly every nail salon I've ever been to, is that I keep my nails round, not square, and no one ever makes them round enough....they always make the tips straight across. When I got the Virtual Nails I kept asking for "rounder" and I still ended up with mostly square. However I just shaped them when I got home and since the polish doesn't ever chip on them it was fine. As for pricing, they used to be, as one review said, "a nice alternative to the corner nail salon" but their prices keep creeping up and they're approaching spa-level. I think their salon is clean, sanitary, friendly, and well-decorated, and their services are great, but it's not quite a spa. I don't make a gazillion dollars so if the prices go up too much more I'll have to find another place.

Their brazilian wax is unbeatable. Although pricey, the wax is worth it. I was in and out in just 7 minutes, and it was as pain-free was waxing can get. The staff was polite and professional, and the entire salon is very clean. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Was in the salon 3 weeks ago and there was a disheveled dog running around. My nail tech said it was the managers and we can bring dogs now to the salon. Will they do dog manicures?

Manicure/pedicures are usually boring and somewhat tedious -- not here! I come here all the time, but last week I went to "Girls Night Out" for the first time with a bunch of my girlfriends -- there was great music, great drinks, and great company -- it was like a party! They serve FREE Cosmopolitans, which were absolutely delicious.
Aside from a fun outing, the service is always great and they did a wonderful manicure and pedicure. I highly recommend the "Tailor Fit" nails and the "Spoiled Diva" pedicure. The pedicure includes microderm abrasion, which is really wonderful on my skin. The Tailor Fit nails are easy and look much nicer than my own -- they're like a pre-made French manicure! Also, they have such great colors to choose from and I even found the quality to be much better than Essie and O.P.I.!!! I highly recommend Dashing Diva to everyone!!! (I brought my mom and my little sister last week and it was fun for all of us!)

I visited Dashing Diva after reading about it in a magazine expecting a terrific experience and had one of the worst salon experiences I ever had. The nail tech and manager were rude, the nail tech wouldn't even answer my questions and seemed bored, the service was nothing better that I can't get for 1/2 price. 2 days after my service all my polish peeled off, their products on their shevles look cheap looking too...what is all the fuss? Instead of dashing diva, dashing dud!

The inside is bright and cheery, they have cute products and have great hygiene practices but that is all.

I have been getting my nails done for years and this is the worst place I've been to. The polish they used literally peeled right off less than a week after the manicure. I gave it another go when a friend wanted to try it out because the place is so cute. I tried a french manicure. 1st they made the white part literally 1/2 the nail rather than the stripe at the top. In addition the polish was lumpy. I caught it on the first nail and asked her for a thinner line at the top. She was very nice about it, and redid the nail. Out of the ten fingers I had 2 decent white lines. The rest were nothing like I had ever seen before - and I've been getting french manicures for 10 years. Again the polish peeled off within the week.
The third time I went because I was unable to talk my friend out of it. She had a nail infection at some point and understandably wanted to go there because they are so hygienic. Since I knew the polish peeled right off my nails I tried their virtual nails (lee press ons). Needless to say this was another failure. I know I have smaller nails, when I go anywhere for acrylic they use their small sizes and then file the sides. Here no such luck. She spent so much time sizing me I did not feel like arguing about it, I was also trying to have a nice time talking to my friend. So the nails were too big, and the polish was OK. When I have gone there the people have always been nice, it is just so disappointing the nails are so bad.
If you are worried about hygiene my advice would be to bring your own nail kit if you are trying someplace new. Also many of the nicer places sell them and can even keep them for you.
The best acrylic is usually in areas like brooklyn, washington heights, delancy - you even get free airbrushing at most places and it will only run you $20. Airbrushing = Flawless french manicure
If you are married to the village there are other places on 8th which are much better and just clean.

I recently stopped in for a brow and lip wax for my first Dashing Diva experience. It wasn't painful, although the wax was a bit hot. I mentioned that my skin is extremely oily and acne prone, and she used a post-waxing lotion that, three days later, has not made me break out. I was impressed with their friendliness, which is why I'm surprised now that I've read the reviews. While I'm not trying to minimize other people's experiences here, I do believe that the service you get is generally reflective of how you treat the employee. So if you go into this salon with a friendly attitude and treat them with respect, perhaps you will get the same back. It certainly can't hurt. They seem very well-organized, and their nail color selection is impressive. I'm going back for a pedicure!

I got a manicure there last Friday, and I've never been in a place with worse service.

Everything was fine, until as I was drying my nails, the manager came up to me and informed me that tip wasn't included in the service. Well aware of that, I had planned to tip after my nails had dried. The Manager then forced me to tip right then.

I had never been so insulted.

I've been there with my girls and got the great service.
from the entrance, pink floor and walls and every decoration are enough to catch my eyes. very lovely and cute decoration. Also, I'm satisfied with their service.
I'd definately go back there! I'd love to return with my girls.

Dashing Diva is a great place to get both your manicures or pedicures. The staff is professional, courteous, and they do excellent work every time I've been there. There is virtually no waiting time and you can get in and out in less than half an hour depending on what you're having done; of course, you're definitely better off calling ahead of time for an appointment before showing up at the door. I've been there on several occasions (who's counting anyway?) and can't think of a single complaint. I give this place a big thumbs up for quality, value, and service.

This salon is really cute and looks really nice, but I got a mediocre pedicure for more than $50 with a tip! I was convinced by the manicurist to get a "spa" pedicure, and it was totally not worth it. They just added some products to the water and did the same service. And it took forever! I recommend Bloomie Nail for a quick, and well-done pedicure for the same price. I did like that they give you your own nail care kit to come back with - that was a nice touch

This place is great -- fun pinks everywhere, bright lighting, and a pedi-station that is MADE for parties with your girls. SO friendly and nice, always able to accomodate walk-ins, and inexpensive... Fun b/c you get to pick out your nail colour from a huge cake-shaped display. The best mani/pedi service in the city, hands-down.

made a reservation for 2, for pedicures, waited 40 minutes. receptionist was rude and unaplogetic. there were others waiting and not getting serviced as well. the $30 pedicure? a waste, asked the woman not to cut my toenails any shorter, as i had just cut them, she didn't seem to understand, had to stop her twice. the scrubbing off of the dead skin on the bottoms of our feet? lasted aobut 30 seconds, and i could have done a better job myself at home, which i had to do after i left the not so dashing diva. the place is decorated pretty, and the bathroom is pretty clean, but other than that it receives no stars, no diamonds, and a major 2 thums down, not only will i never go back, but will make a point of letting people know that the place is a disaster.

SHOWER HORROR! We weren't allowed to do anything. What was agreed upon no longer stood, even w/ a month notice & a deposit. They didn't have cosmos for 10. Barely drinken cosmos were snatched from us. A staff mbr. kept following us for money B4 the agreed time. We couldn't put our belongings anywhere. Food couldn't be put in the fridge & favors, goody bags ended in the broom closet. 2 wks prior, it was agreed that we could put our stuff in the basement and food in the fridge. The cake melted in that closet. A homeless crashed our shower. No bride should to go through a celebration like this, especially when a bridal shower is meant for her to be PAMPERED. She will never forget this for the rest of her life. WAY TO GO DASHING DIVA!!! YOU DO KNOW HOW TO THROW A BRIDAL SHOWER TO REMEMBER.

The salon is beautifully decorated and very hip. The people are most very nice and polite. It is not your normal nail salon. It is very bright, with inviting decor, and most importantly its very clean. They santize your hands which is a major plus from other salons. The person did a really nice job on my nails and i would definetly go back.

My first visit to the Dashing Diva was somewhat disappointing. The staff was cordial, the sanitation was the best I've seen to date, however when i sit here and look at the finished product, well on a scale of 1-10 it's about a 5. Some of the polish is caked on the cuticles on my toes and some doesn't even come all the way to the cuticle area. My nail tech said she had been doing nails for 10 years, so I expected better that i got. In my opinion, if the pedicure was real good but you got a sloppy polish job, that makes for a lousy pedicure, because that's what I have to look at until my next appointment. I would go back, however I would try another nail tech.

The only salon I visit for my weekly manicure, it's the cleanest salon I've ever seen. You and the manicurist apply hand sanitizer before receiving a manicure, you must purchase a set of nail files (around $1.00) so you don't get germs from sharing. I found it best to receive a nail service from each manicurist before deciding whose right for me. It's a good idea to make an appointment first, I have never had to wait with an appointment, as soon as I walk through the door my manicurist seats me and I don't have to stand around and awkwardly choose a nail color. I just tell her what I'm looking for and she tests each color until I find the right one. The girls at the appointment desk are a bit snotty and I could do without their attitudes but having a great manicure makes up for that.

Had an appointment for 7pm on a weekday, waited for 40 minutes (stayed because I am patient and really wanted to see if the hype was worth it) and after 40 minutes when I was still ignored (not offered an apology, explanation, or even water!!), I called for the manager and all she told me was "5 more minutes." Well, I heard that 8 times already! I was not impressed by the service at all. As I was leaving I did not even receive an apology! In my opinion, if you're going to use "dashing" and "nail spa" in your title then you should represent those two. What I got was flakiness, lack of customer service, and a bad mood on an evening planned for relaxation.

I scheduled 2 appointments for myself and a friend. We arrived promptly at 7 and were told it would be a few minutes. We made sure to let the receptionist know that we had to be out by 8 for dinner reservations, she assured us it would be no trouble. After 20 minutes of waiting they finally sat us. After another 10 minutes 1 technician came over and started working on me. We were repeatedly told "another minute, five more minutes and we'll start your friend" but no one showed up. The receptionsit offered us a paltry 20% discount as compensation. Finally I told my technician to stop, we both left without manicures and no one even tried to get our return business. We were lied to and treated poorly. I will NOT be returning, nor will anyone I know.

This salon has custom fit false nails, for only twenty dollars. I had never heard of fake nails that were resonsibly priced, did not harm your nails and lasted a month. There was no chemicals at all used and you can eith return back to remove or do it yourself at hom. I was so satisfied with the service. The technician was super sweet and fun. I had a great experience and would do it again for an event or quick and affordable fix on nails.

I must admit after reading the negative reviews on this site, I was a little reluctant to visit Dashing Diva on 8th Ave. I got the Spoiled Diva pedicure which was $45 and I got a free nail polish upon my departure. My experience was heavenly! The atmosphere was so relaxing and "diva-like". The attendant was very nice and made small talk with me ( I even messed up a toe after she was done polishing them and she graciously did it over). However, the staff is very serious about leaving at closing time so I got a little annoyed seeing them checking their watch every few minutes since I arrived 45 mins. before they closed. Overall, I would definately do it again.

I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about this salon on a variety of sites and from friends. So, I decided that for Mother's Day weekend, my mom and I would go to get our nails done. First off, I have been past this place a zillion times and knew that they had an inviting decor (which my mom loved), that it was bright and they are famous for the cocktails they have there on Thurs or Fri. Since my mom had never gotten her nails done proffessionaly, I thought this would make her feel at ease - which it did. I loved that they did little extra touches in front of you with your nails like extra applications of products that my normal salon doesn't do. The fact that they sanitized your hands and there's was different and that you got to take home the tools they used on you. I always have a natural color on my nail which did not seem to last long on my nails. My mother got a dark burgundy and her nails looked great days later. Everything looked great as far as the shop, the staff was slightly aloof but polite. I would have to go again and use someone else to see if they had a different technique but I would say, come here if it's your first time or you want to have a fun experience with a friend. They will love the flat screens and even the names of the services are adorable. They are a bit pricier then my salong normal manicure is only 11 and there it was 13 but the experience was worth it.

PROS: Cute salon, candles burning, area where two can get a pedicure
CONS: Not sure if the guy that did my nails did it right

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the Dashing Diva and it provides a great place for friends! I enjoyed the pedi-lounge and the absence of cheezy nail art on the walls. If only other nail salons could take note on this concept!! There are a few things that would have made my experience absolutely perfect. One, if for the staff to act like they want to see you ranging from the host who checked you in all the way to the lady who did my manicure/pedicure...The second suggestion is to give a little bit of a longer massage(something beyond the thirty seconds). Since I am a diva of second chances, I would gladly try this place again and hope for a more warm reception(at least a smile).

Making a reservation is a joke.....and the staff could definitely use some coaching in the fundamentals of Customer Service. Somehow they seem to think they are doing us (the customer) a favor. After waiting for about 30 minutes (with an appointment), and being "dismissed" by one of the staff, I found it pointless to stick around to see if the manicures were any good. If it were not for the "free Cosmo" tag line, this place would be out of business in no time!!

Dashing Diva was great. It was a clean & refreshing visit because it didn't have the usual smell. Equipment was sterilized in an autoclave. Equipment was opened in front of me as if I was getting a new needle for a tattoo. It's relieving to see the staff not masked as if there was SARS.

She measured each nail. Cut, shaped my real & Virtual nails. Not a lot of verbal interaction. I don't like small talk & didn't need to vent at the time. A+

I decided for lip & brow waxing since I was in dire need for both. It hurt as always. ONLY complaint & was after I left did I notice. She took a layer skin when she waxed my hardly noticeable but necessary unibrow. The wax was too hot & skin zipped off. I am not scarred for life but no more waxing. B.

My sister and I tried the Friday Night after 6pm pedicures with free Cosmo. Services were far from stellar! Technicians seemed bored and could care less about giving a good pedicure. We opted for the "spoiled diva" pedicure - they spent more time polishing the legs and less on the feet. I also had a terrible manicure! After waiting a over a half hour to dry - my feet were still callus and dry?? I felt my complaints would go unwarrented so I left - and will never go back. Bonus when we got home the polish was smudged on every nail. 2 hours later I hit my fingers on a glass and the polish dented. Bad products. I have had pedicures using Essie or Opi and waited just as long and had no smudging or little dents. Save the $$$ and try a better salon!

This place has become my favorite new place for mani/pedi services. I love the atmosphere and the staff is quick, good and friendly. Truely a step above the rest, without paying more for so called "spa manicures" you recieve a great hand massage, cuticle exfoliation and moisturizing. I am very impressed and can't wait to go back with my friends!
