Despite the name change, Hillstone still delivers on a happening after work scene and solid food. I hop in here frequently for an after-work glass of wine while splitting spinach dip and ribs with friends. Some nights we splurge on the brownie sundae which is worth every calorie. It never disappoints. Try and get there early if you want to score a seat at the bar. While its prices could be a little more affordable, you just can't put a price on spinach dip that is that good.

I love the ribs at this place. Went to another place on Park Ave that is supposed to be known for their ribs, but it doesn't compare to this place.

I went to Houston's on Park Ave on a Tuesday after work. I pass there daily on the way downtown and it always looked as if the people are having a real nice time. Well they are ! , The ambiance / lighting / decor/seating is just right, I sat at the bar. The bartenders were professional, friendly and no matter how busy they were (and believe me for a Tuesday this place was packed) they made small talk and answered your questions with "No Attitude". I observed several couples enter the restaurant and the staff immediately acknowledged them , informed them of wait time , kept note where they were waiting at the bar (remember I said this place was packed) and informed them when their table was ready. Now that is service ! I will definitely make this one of my fave spots. Next time I will bring friends and have dinner because each plate I saw I wanted to taste something on it.

You must try the Veggie Burger! They are simply remarkable and never fail to please. The seasonal vegetable selection is divine. Butternut squash salad is another of my favorites. There is occasionally a wait but the bar is very well staffed and usually brimming with interesting characters. The service is impeccable...servers really aim to please!

All day @ work I was carving the New England Clam Chowder and my Hawiian Steak. Get to the restaurant and to my surprise the whole entire menu is change. I look at the waiter and ask him, "what happen to the menu." I was very disappointed but I still was able to get my steak. The T-Bone Steak is actually the Hawiian Steak they just change the name.

The other week I took my better half to Houston's on Park Ave, for a birthday dinner. When we sat I was met with some BIG changes!!! The name on the menu was different, a lot of the items were all different, some for the good and some for the bad!! I must admit, there was a lot of new items that sparked my interest. Because, if Houston's does ANYTHING, they do it nice, new, tasteful, and pleasing to the eye! I've been a die-hard fan of this restaurant since they first appeared in NY in '97 in Long Island. But back to my visit, we were sat immediately, and our waiter (Arthur) was professional and helpful. I had the prime rib and my guest had the ribs. They were both amazing. And to those Houston's regulars the spinach dip was awesome as usual. At the end of the meal the staff all came out and helped me embarrass my friend with a surprise dessert and song (cheesy, I know, but you've got to love it!!) Overall, it was a good time!!

Houston's Club Salad is one of the best salads I've ever had, period -- fried chicken, avocado, bacon, assorted cheese, and that infamous buttermilk garlic dressing (the only thing that makes it a salad is the fact that comes on lettuce -- from a fat and calories perspective, it's probably as bad as the burger and fries). So imagine my friend's and my surprise when, after waiting patiently for a good long time (as we expected to do), we sat down to find out that it wasn't on the menu. We were informed that it was a question of "seasonal variety," and that the server thinks that they just switched it out for the summer (but she wasn't sure -- it might be gone for good, which would be just awful). First, this is the first time in the ten years I've been eating there that that item has disappeared from the menu. Second, the rationale didn't make much sense to us; the summer menu includes all of Houston's heavy dishes, including the red bean and rice soup, but they've yanked one of the salads? And a signature salad at that? They pushed the grilled chicken salad on us instead but it was a poor substitute; hopefully someone in management will figure out that this is a bonehead move straight out of the New Coke playbook and give us back the original Club Salad. We're going to call up the other Houston's to see if it's done the same thing. If Houston's menu were more extensive, this might be cool, but it's not, really, and that was really the only item on the menu that either of us liked, and my understanding (supported by our server's reaction) is that it's a very popular item in general, so this was bad news.

me and my family used to come here every weekend and have a late lunch at the bar. always ordered the same thing, drank the same thing...even sat in the same spot at the bar. we got to know the bartenders over the years, being that same two people waited on us for about two or three years. we had become friendly with them and they made us feel very comfortable. when the bartender saw us walking down the stairs, she would put our drinks on the bar and automatically ring in our appatiser. it was great! unfortunately, this bartender left the company...and everything is different now. we still went a couple times hoping that we would still be treated well. not that the new bartenders would know what we drank and ate...but we expected them to at least be friendly. we have never had the same experience so we stopped going! the staff seemed too robotic...like they were afraid of doing something wrong. we never even saw the management smiling and they always seemed to be staring down all of their employees. now, it's pretty sad that we, as bar patrons noticed this. and it made for a very unpleasant experience. we will probably never go back in there. too bad.

Went with a party of 8 for a friends bday. Sat us at two different tables. We were close enough to chat and see each other, but still removed from a whole conversation. Food was good. I had a steak and noodle salad that was pretty amazing. For the price though I would have expected this anyway. Drinks were okay, but still really expensive! It's a nice, special occassion place, but very loud and not at all romantic. Will only go back if it's for someone's bday that actually wants to go there for their night out.

Houston's is my guilty pleasure. I always get the same thing - veggie burger (which is absolutely fantastic) and spinach artichoke dip. Not healthy - but soooooo good. Glasses of wine are quite generous.

I've enjoyed Houston's in Florida so I thought I would enjoy it here. I guess i find it easieer to accept chain-food on vacation. The portions on Park Avenue are huges, but the food is really below average. A nice bar though if you have to wait.

As much as I hate to admit it, this pricey location of the famous Houston's chain is a great place to visit for drinks and for food. The prices alone are overly expensive but man they sure do crank out some very quality food.

The wait was long but we came without reservations. Bartenders were helpful and attentive. Drinks were pricey but the French Martini is now one of my favorite cocktails. We spent $60 for drinks and one appetizer before we even sat down for dinner. Once seated, we had a great waitress (Melissa) and the food was super.

I have been here many times. The service at the bar, and at the tables, is excellent. The food is consistantly delicious from the burgers to the salads, the drinks expertly mixed. They really get it right - have a relatively limited menu and make sure everything on there is top notch. It makes a real difference. I am a dessert fanatic and have yet to find a better brownie a la mode, although if you don't like nuts in your brownie forget it. It raises comfort food to a whole new level.

Houston's is comfortable and lush with it's plush couch seating and dark-panelled wood. The menu is somewhat limited at burgers, sandwiches and steaks but, somehow it's still a steady favorite of mine. For a nice, no muss, no fuss, no attitude dinner in a nice (if slightly executiveish) setting, Houston's is a great choice. It's so much better than being packed in say..... L'Express. My personal menu favs are the spinich dip and veggie burger. The Lieb wine is a great tasting white option at only $24 a bottle! Happy Hour is also great although slightly skewed to just "suits."

Houston's is one of those places you always know you can count on for attentive service and a solid meal without the attitude of bigger names in the business. The menu is always consistent and sevice always pofessional. I wish there was a Houston's in my city, then I wouldn't have to travel to NYC, Boston & Phoenix to enjoy the experience.

Ok. So my co-workers and I decided to have lunch at Houston's today. To our surprise, the experience wasn't as pleasant as it usually is. We give the "lovely" hostess our name and she tells us it would be a 20 minute wait for a party of 5. No Problem, we say. Meanwhile a party of 7 comes in after us and gets seated before us. This was after waiting for 40 minutes. 1st mistake! When questioned about it, the response from our "lovely hostess" was that it was easier to seat them because they had to put 2 tables together for them. (Go figure!) The best part of our dining experience was, when our burgers were ordered with NOTHING on them, and they came with some "mysterious" Houston's secret hickory sauce! What part of "NOTHING ON IT" do we not understand? To top it off, when we mentioned it to our "lovely" waitress, she responded as though it was no big deal along with "Well now you know for the next time." How about there will be no next time? 2nd mistake. Needless to say, this place has gone to the extreme bottom of our list.

You said "30 bucks for crabcakes is ok for a place known for food, but houstons?" Apparently, you've never had the crabcakes at houstons. One of the best receipes in the city for crabcakes lives right here. I'd let you be the judge, but you'd probably just end up going with a couple of salads. Ridicilous, making a reservation on a busy evening for a New York steakhouse and then ordering a salad. Obviously, you have no sense of eating out. At all. AT ALL.

This Houston's does take reservations, and we made a reservation for 7:15pm. Downhill from there; we arrived at 7:20, the hostess said "you are late" - but we will try to seat you as soon as we can.
The menu is a bit bizarre. Aps and Sides are in the same column, and of those the only true ap is a tuna dish at $16 (strangely, they call the spinach dip an ap). The rest of the menu is also very expensive for what it is, $30 for crabcakes is ok at a restaurant known for its food, but at Houstons? We both had salads, good but so 1990.

Servers are very pleasant, but the average brought down by the smugness of the hostesses

Nice ambience--had the thai steak noodle salad and was delicious and spicey! My friend at the veggie burger, which was HUGE! He is a vegetarian and said it was one of the best veggie burgers he has ever had.

Try the Arnold Palmer...mix of lemonade and iced tea...tasty!

Dined on a Sunday night and there was only a 5 minute wait. Food and service was not as good as in the past. They appear to be taking themselves a bit too seriously (I was told twice to remove my hat in the dining room). Pricing is strange, too. Burger for $15, ribs for $30? Maybe I'm just annoyed about the hat thing.

This Houstons has been one of my favorites and frequents from 1999. Last two times I went since October 2005, I was sadly dissappointed. The menu has changed and chef. I brought a date there raving about it and was embarrassed when we left. Don't get me wrong, it is still the gorgeous dining room, trendy bar, and great staff. But the food has taken a nosedive to what Houstons used to be. That is why the previous reviews were so wonderful, FYI.

I walked in this restaurant and was amazingly surprised when the food arrived. Not only was the waiter attentive but the food was to die for. We got there around 5pm and it wasn't packed which was a plus. The dim light and decor made you feel at home.
I ordered the crabcakes and my god! I haven't had crabcakes like that anywhere else just delicious.
I guess the prime rib is what people go for. I will take my boyfriend there for his birthday for sure since he loves those. I guess i will have to order the spinach dip as well since everyone is raving about it.
All in all I think this was an all-round great restaurant which doesn't look like a typical chain rest. I didnt even know it was. Which if you asked me is a silly reason not to visit it.

If you are traveling from outside the area this is not the restaurant for you. I called to see if I could get reservations or be placed on wait list via phone because I was having 4 guests coming in from out of town on business. I spoke with the management and they basically told me no. Infact, he recommended Morton's which is located next door. That tells you something.

I generally don't like chains, but this has got to be one of the best. I recently tried their burgers that everyone was raving about but I didn't like it. It was big, sloppy, and the bread was so soggy. Almost everything else on their menu is good though. Friendly service.

This Houston's is similar to the one in midtown. The food is great at both. The only differences are in some of the appetizer options. For example, this location has sushi, but no chicken fingers. The bar scene is probably better at this location also since it is in a more residential area. The wait is usually over an hr for dinner

By far the best prime rib I have ever had as well as the bet Chicken sandwich my wife had. The atmosphere is set up elegantly and is very romantic. We had a booth table which is what you'd want to ask for. The service was superb. It is pricey but my wife and I enjoyed a great Lunch for under 40 dollars. Well worth the price. The crowd is suited up business type, but my wife and I added some trendiness to it and felt and were treated excellent.

Gone to the Houstons in Los Angeles for years, been to at least 4-5 and they are all equally good in quality. Consistently good. Not just for ribs & steak, but great drinks and salads and daily fresh vegetables. Service is often quite slow however. Can be loud & annoying especially if there are a lot of "families". Not a very family oriented restaurant.

I know it's a chain, but get over it. It's honestly my favorite restaurant. The ambiance is great...food is even better. Do not miss the Chicago Spinach Dip or the loaded baked potato...and their lemonade is made from scratch when you order it!!!

For someone as impatient as me to wait this long it must be good. Truly worth the wait, No matter what you order it is good. Have been eating at various Houstons throughout the years and have yet to have a bad meal.

I was frantically searching for a nice restaurant for my bf's 25th bday and I had been raving about houston's spinach dip when I had gone the first time, so we decided to go there since he had never been there. We went early b/c they don't take reservations and we still had to wait about 30 minutes. But it was worth the wait. Recommend the spinach dip and the knife and fork ribs platter. They were absolutely amazing. Our service was unbelieveable too! Our waters were refilled without us ever asking. It was a lot better service since the last time I went! We actually went to the houston's in the Citicorp building not the one on Park Ave. But i'm sure they're all great! Definitely recommend for a date! The Jazz band was great for ambience

They have among the best burgers in the city, and all around incredibly well-prepared, savory food at a very reasonable price. The dimly-lit ambience and cushioned booths make for great comfy date place. Also good for when the family is in town. I have introduced many of my hipster NYC friends to Houston's and the minute they eat there, they're hooked. This is the kind of food people get addicted to -- I know I am! For app, drink, main course we usually drop $30/pp. Worth every penny, and we always leave Houston's utterly satiated, with a big grin, counting the minutes till we come back.

That is Houston's in several words! Although a chain, it definitely outperforms its other American counterparts in both food and atmosphere. The place is always busy and has a friendly and helpful staff. The food is good, and the spinach dip -- WOAH, a definite must-have. My only complaint was that people I was out with were ordering drinks with orange juice, and Houston's uses fresh-squeezed orange juice in their drinks. Pulp and liquor? Yuck! All in all though, Houston's passed the test. It's definitely good for a light meal, a casual date, or to meet up with friends afterwork.

I love that NYC'ers are so snobby about this place being a chain. Just because it's not a converted basement apartment in the East Village doesn't mean it ain't good! The deal with chains is that you get CONSISTENTLY GOOD FOOD anytime you visit. This is what those of us who patronize Houston's realize. Sure, there are "cooler" places in Manhattan where lots of "cool" people hang out, but Houston's is an old stand by that won't let you down. Please have the SPINACH DIP, CAESAR SALAD, HAWAIIAN RIB-EYE and the BROWNIE for dessert. As you leave fully satiated, think of all the posers who dine out to be "cool", and then thank your lucky stars that you aren't one of them!

Houston's has long been one of my favorite restaurants, bith in NYC and elsewhere. Definitely not your typical chain restaurant though...food is amazing- spinach dip, burgers, soups, salads, all of it is great! Service is good and very professional. Only con is that they don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait...

Houston's is always a sure thing - GREAT FOOD!!!
I have been to several Houston's around the country and I love all of them. The food is always consistently good, the service is pleasant and the atmosphere is very comforting. I love those big booths where you can snuggle next to your honey.
The spinach/cheese dip is a must to start and the seared tuna salad is so delicious. The veggie burger is a great treat - it looks and tastes like the real thing. This place is a treat!

Houston's makes the best burger in town hands down. For $11, it's worth every penny. The shoestring fries that come with are great. Throw in consistent and attentive service, good atmosphere, and great apps and you have a great place for lunch.

BRING BACK THE APPLE MARTINIS! There, I said it. Count me as being on the bandwagon! Honestly, this is one of my favorite restaurants in New York. The tab can get pretty high, so come prepared. Start off with a Cosmo and the spinach dip. Next, follow up with another Cosmo and try the chicken fingers (not your lil brothers), Hawaiian rib eye, filet mignon, or trusty burger. Trust me, they are all good, all the time. Finish off with dessert and coffee, and you and your friends will be back here in no time.

Houston Restaurant is a large dimly lit restaurant. It has a large bar with some seating around the bar. They have a jazz band in the bar area which is nice. The food is good especially for a chain restaurant. The spinach dip is excellent. The night I went, they had lemon snapper on their specials menu. It was very good. This place is good to have a casual but not too casual date. People also come here after work.

I've been to Houston's in NJ, NY, FL, and AZ and they're all EXCELLENT! Everything is SO FRESH.

The best veggie burger, great seafood, ribs that fall off the bone. Awesome shoe-string fries. Great seasonal items too -- acorn squash, key lime pie, berries with mascarpone... Great fresh squeezed lemonade. I love this place!

Think of a pricier TGI Friday's. Then remove the goofy hats. Replace your buffalo wings with a really tasty spinach dip, and there you are. It's a bit dark throughout, but there's plenty of bar space (which doesn't look like it gets filled up all that much) and the service was decent. Hit Houston's if you're looking to spice up the same-old-same-old a little bit.

The food is out of this world. Always consistant! Great food, great service, great dining experience! Must have the spinach dip and ribs. If you don'd dine at Houston's you are missing out.
27th and Park is the best!
