Went by over the weekend for dessert and coffee, and the little restaurant is closed and appears to be gutted! What happened?!? Anybody got a good dessert recommendation for the UWS?

Pros: It was great!

Cons: Now it's closed

I love going to Mozarts for dessert. The desserts are rich and decadent. top it off with a coffee/expresso and it is perfect! They have a regular menu and the only time I ever tried an entree I thought the food was so-so.

Most nights of the week they have someone playing the piano live. It is a great date place.

This is a great place to unwind following an evening at Lincoln Center, or to take a coffee break after visiting nearby stores. I usually get a salad and sandwich, but the real reason to come here is the luscious desserts. Death by Chocolate, and raspberry tiramisu cake are to die for. There is live jazz or classical music most evenings after 9pm, as well as a Sunday afternoon jazz brunch.

As patrons of Cafe Mozart for years, we have always loved the atmosphere and food and found both extremely satisfying, especially for brunch. Over the past few months however, we have noticed many small changes that in aggregate add up to just one too many, and as a result we will no longer be coming back. For example, they used to bring over a basket with an assortment of breads and jams to the table, now it?s filled with just on kind, dry raisin bread and grade jelly. There still have flavored hot chocolate on the menu, although they have been ?out? for months now. The flavored teas are also out, and the ?pott of tea' is now a cup of hot water accompanied by a cheap tea bag. The strawberry and cream cheese filled french toast has been replaced with french toast with a pink strawberry flavored filling that is just not as good. The same items are cheaper if you get them delivered, although the bagel with cream cheese and salmon was missing the cream cheese and when I called about missing syrup for my french toast, they gave me an attitude and said I didn't specify I wanted syrup. We really did like this place a lot, but with spotty service, attitude and the recent decline in quality, we just had enough.

I ordered delivery from Cafe Mozart and never got my order. I called after waiting an hour and was told that my order would soon be delivered. I waited another hour (a total of 2 and a half hours since I placed my order) and was given the run around again - this time told that they couldn't find their delivery person. In the meantime, no one called to tell me that they would not delivery the food. I told them to forget it as it seemed like they still had to make the food and who knows when I would have gotten in. I personally think they never made the food and just hoped I wouldn't call back to check on my order.

I used to love this place, went religiously and recommended it to many friends. Now I'm' embarased and retracting my recommendation. It has gone way downhill. The desserts are the only redeeming thing (it's hard to mess up chocolate, but get it to go if you do decide to brave it into here)

1. Rude and poor service, no one pays attention to you. I think they have a profile of who they'll give good service too. They used to be way more attentive. Even when the place is empty, they don't notice you. (It reminds me of the snooty staff at Cafe Lalo)
2. Some of the dishes are now bland and poorly prepared - not worth the price.
3. Don't ever have a complaint or request an adjustment to your meal. The wait staff gets confused and treats you like you did something wrong. Who knows what they'll do to your food in the back.

One time (the absolute last time) my meal had too much salt (I took a drink of water with every bite...that's not normal and it was my favorite dish I always ordered). 5 people conferenced over it looking confused about what to do, 20 minutes later I got an answer that it would be replaced, and within 2 blocks from walking out the door I was horribly sick. I could only wish that I got sick IN the restaurant or on their stoop. The illness lasted for almost 2 days and I couldn't go to work. I was ready to contact the New York department of health.

I contacted the restaurant and they have not responded or looked into the potential health risk.

DON'T GO HERE.

Pros: back in the day it was good. I miss the chocolate desserts, but will NEVER go back.

Cons: really bad service. Food made me extremely sick.

I went here with my sister because a friend recommended the desserts. We got seated, the place was pretty empty and we waited... and waited. Two men walked in about 10 minutes after us and were seated at the table next to us. Right away, the waiter came up to them and gave them water and asked them how they were doing tonight. We waited some more giving the waiter a chance to even acknowledge us on such an empty/non busy night. The waiter then came back about 5 minutes later, didn't look at us, went straight back to the other table and started taking their order. By this time we were pretty ticked off. So we left and let them know how horrible their restaurant was.

NOT WORTH THE WAIT!!!

Let me first list what was good about the place: coffee and bread. Everything else was awful. Went for brunch with friends. We had to practically jump up and down to get the waitstaff's attention. Huge wait before the food came. The eggs benedict with smoked salmon was dry and way too fishy (had my stomach a bit nervous). The homefries were boiled with no taste. Salad had no dressing. And for $12-$15 per order, damn over-priced.

I can't figure out the hype about this place. I would suggest sticking to your local diner.

I visited with a group of 4 and we were immediately seated. Jazz piano played in the backround and our meals were good. I had a banana flavored hot chocolate and it was delicious. I hear the desserts are fantastic, but I missed them. Service was very good as well. The seating area is tight. It offers a different ambience and I would surely go again.

Cafe Mozart has the most extensive range of desserts I have seen. There are at least 20 kinds of cakes, plus pies, torts, brownies , soufles, ice cream and milkshakes. Plus, coffee and other drinks. Me and my boyfriend only had dessert, so that is only what i am raving about. I had the chocolate mud cake and it was out of this world amazing, it was like one big piece of fudge, amazing. If you go on fri-sun you have to buy at least $7.5 per person, but that is one desert and coffee, prices aren't bad.

I highly recommend Cafe Mozart. We went here for brunch, and my husband had Mediterranean Shakshuka and I had the Country Breakfast. Both were tasty, but I liked the Shakshuka more. It was yummy, and everything was very tasty. I had toast on the side, and even that was tasty! The dessert was pretty good as well. I have never seen such a range of choices in brunch and dessert elsewhere. I will definitely go back! The place was a little loud and crowded, but I was seated promptly.

Cafe Mozart is one of my favorite dessert places in Manhattan. I like going there late at night in the summer, and sitting outside, relaxing in the romantic atmosphere of the Upper West Side. This place is very popular, but - in my experience - never crowded. The service is good, and the food is delicious. I heartily recommend it.

I met a friend for breakfast on a Saturday and though they brought the breakfast menu, they then took it away AS WE WERE LOOKING AT IT and said we had to have brunch (we didn't order fast enough). Okay, that was weird and a poor move by that particular hostess but the food that we did order was good and the ambience nice. I returned about a month later and was given a breakfast menu and asked the hostess if I had to have the order in a minute or so or would I be given the brunch menu instead. She looked at me like I was nuts. I told her what happened and she thought that was unacceptable but not unheard of. She had no idea why I couldn't have ordered off the breakfast menu. Anyway, a bit of a bump in an otherwise nice experience both times at this nice little restaurant. I like it a lot for breakfast.

This is a great place to get dessert or a small bite and drink before taking in a performance at Lincoln Center. The ambience is casual and friendly, and the service was great!

We were constantly harassed. They have a big sign in the window "Free Wireless Internet". They said I had to put away my laptop because it was "dinner hours". They didn't let us sit at a 4 person table because we were 2 people even though the restaurant was half empty. After a long argument with their manager, the evening ended with us leaving before even getting water. We've been here several times and have overlooked the poor service because of the good deserts. However, this incident has finally taken Cafe Mozart off my radar. There are hundreds of UWS cafe's ...for the sake of your evening, go try a different one.

This is a great place to go on a date or with friends. The candlelight and live classical music gives it a warm atmosphere, and the dessert is to DIE for. The dessert menu is at least 4 pages. I had the warm chocolate souffle cake with strawberries and whippedcream and I loved it. Desserts are $7-12 but I think they're worth it. The only drawback was slow service, but the food and ambience are so nice that your wait is A) pleasant and B) worth it.

we've been going to mozart for years--and I love the salads. Don't miss the salmon or goat cheese pies. I was surprised, however, when I recently ordered dessert and my strudel was served to me tasting of freezer burn. I asked a couple of my friends to taste to be sure--and they, too, gagged at the chemical taste. When we approached the manager for it to be taken off of our bill, he refused--saying that more than a mouthfull had been eaten. How sad I am to give one of our former "places to be" such a review. Perhaps they have changed management in the recent months--but if you go for dessert--stick to this rule of thumb? What you see is generally what you get in the view case. Stay away from anything you can't visually attest to.

The moment I walked in the door I knew it was gonna be a great night. For some reason the hostess knew exactly who I was meeting there, took me to my table and told us our waitress would be right with us. Sure enough, ten seconds later our waitress came over with the nicest smile I've ever seen. We started our meal with the goat cheese tarts, then I had the salmon Avacado salad and my date had the chicken shnitzel...WOW..both looked great! We were stuffed but how could we say no to dessert? So we had the forest fruit tart and the svegliamisu it was like we were in heaven. This was by far one of the best dates I've ever been on and I think everything played a part. The hostess was nice, my waitress was fabulous and the desserts were to die for. Great restaurant.

Well last year my friends brought me here for my birthday....and anyone who has been to Cafe Mozart knows what I'm talking about. First of all the food is indescribable though the french fries are my favorite! Then come the desserts....Oh my God...incredible. You've got to experience the heaven of Cafe Mozart. They've got so many different kinds of desserts. Weather you like chocolate or tarts or cheesecake and even ice cream.... they have it all!! And the dessert presentation is Fantastic! I love it there.

The food was wonderful, the service really bad. My friend ordered a salad, and asked for goat cheese instead of roquefort. The salad arrived -- roquefort. The waitress took it back -- no apology -- and we waited over 20 minutes for the right dish. I asked that my leftover chicken be wrapped up...it was thrown away, again, no apology, just a clear indication that WE were causing trouble. I know a restaurant can be a hectic place, but geez, could they have pretended to be nice? That's a lot of attitude to take, especially at those prices. Never again.

went there on 2/9/06 for my hubby's bday. since we're informed its service isslow we had dinner in midtown&went for dessert&b-day thing. had reservation in advance & told hostess we were there for bday as i walked in. But that message wasn't carried to our waiter. desserts came out & nothing happened. they suggested to order an extra cake to bring out with a bday music & do all that. so i did, though i had enough desserts. after all it wasnt impressive -cake w/ cancel with classical bday song. dirty looking wig and bad quality photo weren't great. I wish waiters sang at least. it was quick & i was embarrassed to bring everybody all the way there for this. dessert is ok, not special. i like the setting but don't expect much for b-day. oh, we got a piece of chocolate as a gift.

We just went there for a friend's birthday and had a great time. They put a mozart wig on the birthday girl, put a sparkler her dessert and sang happy birthday. The cutest part was that they took a picture while everyone was singing and printed a card out from restaurant with the picture included and a little gift of chocolates. In general, the wait is long and the wait staff isn't very pleasant but its a great dessert place if you have a few hours to spend.

It's not alwqys easy to find a great place to JUST grab a dessert, but Cafe Mozart fits the bill. a bit on the pricey side, but with a number of delectible dishes to choose from on the dessert menu, it was worth it. $7.50 minimum (and max of 2 hrs to hang out at a table) on a Friday/Saturdaynight didn't feel like too much of a burden, and I'd go back to enjoy a cappucino and read the paper on an idle Saturday.

I first stumbled upon this cozy cafe when i was 16 and playing a series of concerts at Lincoln Center and ever since, through undergrad and graduate school have continued to introduce it to friends and they all LOVED it. Everyone then makes it a find of their own ad shows someone knew. I always have expediate service, great food, good wine, and AB FAVulous desserts. A MUST SEE!!

If you like a pie, tort, cheesecake or the large variety of cakes .... trust me when I tell you that it will make your mouth very happy. My favorite is the chocolate peanut butter with pecans. But you be the judge and give them all a try. For something lighter I go for the pies. The overall experience is recommended and will not disappoint. Whether your coming from Lincoln Center, a Broadway show or the movies .... It will be worth the trip.

Wanting a quick weekday lunch a friend and I popped into Cafe Mozart. Suffice it to say the apple cinnamon iced tea was the highlight of the meal. The service was pathetically slow (I did overhear excuses being made for the slow kitchen to a nearby table) - by the time I did get my food I had to have it almost immediately boxed to go. The expediter/busser spoke very little English, hardly enough to identify which item off of his tray belonged to you. Painful! If you want a place to have an EXTREMELY relaxed meal the food here is OK, but there are better options in the neighborhood. Overall, a waste of money and time. Don't bother!

I have found my new favorite place to enjoy breafkast. The apple struedel french toast is quickly topping my chart of things I must enjoy to enjoy the rest of my day. Also the music and atmosphere is a wonderful way to start the day. I can't wait until I can sit on the outdoor patio this summer.

I had a great dinning experience on Monday night. I ordered the Filet Mignon which was the best Filet Mignon I have ever had. Also, they have 50% off bottle of wine, so I checked the wine list, and was amazed with the wine list. I order bottle of Malbec from Argentina. I had very good dinning experience- live music, great food, good service -in one word everything was perfect.

I went 2x this week, Sunday brunch and tuesday night, the service was really bad, the food wasn't worth the wait and a bit cold. Sunday was extremely noisyand it seemed forever before i could get my omelette, as for tuesday the service was just horrible, I wouldn't recommend it. waiters should be reminded they are tipped for their service, the least they can do is be nice!

The food ain't that great - well the coffee and the desserts are worth the try. I had the greatest problems with the staff though - they are in your face regarding tips. One time, I wasn't even done and the waitress was already haggling me as to why I didn't give her tip. It's happened more than once when the staff are up your wazoo about their tips. What makes it even worse is that they have an air of arrogance as they serve you. I say, go to Cafe Lalo instead - better desserts, nicer staff, and nicer decor!

for the elegant, top of the line new york late night sweet, cafe mozart is it. The only issue is the average age (50 by my estimates) and ambience (quiet, stuffy but not romatic). Focus on anything chocolate or fruit...and creme brulee sent from the Gods. Keep in mind, this is New York and you get what you pay for...hint: this is the best.

Pros: the best, location

Cons: stuffy, kid free [suggested], older NY crowd

Regardless of what others wrote about cafe mozart, I had to see for myself, and to my surprise I had a great time. The food was Delicious as well as the desserts, would I recomended? YES! the waitstaff was very nice and the music relaxing, I guess you have to go and try it for yourself, but again, I did have a great time!

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Cafe Mozart. I read some negative reviews here, but I'm telling you...IGNORE THEM. The food was great (I recommend the filet mignon), and my waitress was nothing short of enchanting.

When my roommate is not on a diet, we come here one or two times a week. They have the best canoli--I think because it's kosher. Cafe Mozart is not a kosher restuarant but they have several kosher selections that are really good, in particular the french onion soup, made with vegetable broth, but so rich and flavorful you can't tell the difference. The dinners and appetizers are rich and creative, though the chicken dishes are just ordinary. The walnut crusted salmon is very good. Most of the desserts are good, though I have my favorites. I haven't worked all the way through the menu yet though. Just be careful of the chocolate desserts, they can be very heavy. And we always have good service. Watch out for the bathroom as well--there is a lifesize cardboard cut-out of Mozart which I always mistake for a real person.

Dining "experience" begins with cracked, filthy vinyl tile flooring & tables so small & close together that you couldn't move. Next, the "noise" -- my thought was "if you like dining in the Port Authority Bus Station on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving . " Next, "service" -- about an hour wait between the salad course & the entree. "Choice" of salad dressings -- either vinaigrette or vinaigrette. "Famous desserts" -- mass produced & available at any City deli -- you know the ones that you see in the windows on 7th Ave! "Live classical music starting at 9" -- poor playing on an out of tune piano, which you can't really hear anyway because of the noise. Website photo -- made before the restaurant opened. One good point -- located just off Broadway -- so it's easy to find a taxi for a quick exit.

The desserts were expensive and not tasty. I also experienced an absolutely horrendous waittress. I saw a waitress yell at 2 customers for moving a table out a little bit in order to have more seating space. And then the waittress refused to reseat the 2 ladies. It was unbelievable.

We came here for the desserts, but the food was superb. I had the fliet mignon which was hand cut, huge, and tender with a peppercorn crust. My wife had the cajun salmon done to perfection. The total bill with a glass of wine and dessert came to $65.00. I recommend this cafe highly especially if you are going to Lincoln Center as it is only a 7 minute walk. We ate outside on a beautiful October night. The service by Sean was excellent as well.

A nice cafe to have a quick bite. I would not recommend having a large group here as it can be very noisy. The food is great. The desserts are heavenly.

I try to go to the Cafe Mozart whenever I am in the city, finding to be a pretty establishment with delicious food and an endearing atmosphere. On many evenings, they have live piano performances right up until midnight, and are open late into the night for those returning from Lincoln Center or some other event. The service can be lacking at times, but the desserts and overall experience certainly counter this flaw. Some of the claims of bad desserts are very exagerated to say the least. Come and see for yourself!

Went on a sunday. Really quaint and cute. Great jazz players. Awesome coffee...had the hamburger...Stick to McDonalds. My date had the Omelette. I could have invited her to my place and cooked one better. Right near central park.

I'd recommend the place for the coffee, ambiance and the music.
