They are fairly attentive to their fish stock, but it seems that the other animals for sale there are there simply because there is a demand. Bird cages are kept near the ceiling, which trains them to think they are superior to humans and may cause behavioral problems.
The red flag, however, is the treatment of reptiles and amphibians. Each time I have visited, I have seen at *least* one reptile or amphibian in a completely incorrect habitat (a gecko in an amphibious habitat, a frog with gravel - which it will ingest and cause the frog's intestines to be expelled from either end), which will cause slow but sure death for these animals that depend on the environment to regulate biological processes. No thought seems to be given to their well-being, and they seem to have short life spans there.
The only redeeming factor is their medication selection. They even have some things that are not made anymore (expired, but they are there).
Make your own decision, but the treatment of the reptiles and amphibians indicates to me a lack of caring for those animals, and even if their fish are perfect (they are not of the best quality in Rochester, but they are not as pitiful as the reps/amphs), I am concerned about a lack of care for even ONE animal in a store.
