Celebrated my birthday last week with my wife at Apizz! The atmosphere was nice and cozy especially on a cold winter night. There is a huge brick oven fire in the back. Not many tables. It's great for small groups or just with your spouse. The food was fabulous. Had the ravoilli with butternut squash and my wife had the gnocchi with beef. Both dishes were so tasty. They added a lot of butter so that's why it was so good! Not good if you are on a diet! Ordered a bottle of wine. Desert was good as well. Had two by accident! The service was right on point. It wasn't that crowded being on a week night and in the midst of a rain storm but it filled up quickly as the night went on. Great place to snuggle with your other half. I would highly recommend coming here. We had a great table in the back corner so very comfortable! The location is not the greatest. It's kind of out there in the middle of nowhere but only about 2 blocks from the train station.

I have been a long time diner at Apizz. The food is consistently hearty and delicious. I would recommend the Gnocchi and the Lasagna. I was not impressed with the Octopus Salad, so I would stick with the pizza to start or even just the fresh crusty bread they bring to the table. They have a healthy wine list to boot. I would highly recommend trying this little LES spot.

3 pizza choices does not qualify as a Pizza restaurant. Food quite good but overpriced for the 'hood. If you like paying for a decorator you won't mind the prices. Service was the piece de resistance. Every 3 minutes a bus boy asks if you are finished or your waitress comes over and asks how everything is. The wait staff has never been trained that people dine out to speak to each other and not to be interruputed constantly.
The best part is the manager who when told of the intrusions never blinked nor said a word. If you want a good pizza go to Cronkites a couple of blocks away or to one of a thousand other much better Italian restaurants in the city. You want quiet and romance - stay home!

The restaurant was empty so they sat two of us at a four-top, which was nice. The white pizza with spinach was delicious. The gnocci tasted fresh. The service was friendly.

I returned a 2nd time with my parents and brother for a family dinner. With the family, we sampled more of their foods. The restaurant is nice, dim but well lit (we made reservations for 7pm in June). It is within a residential neighborhood that is contrary to the clients that dine at Apizz.

They are known for cooking most of their dishes in their wood burning stove oven. We ordered 3 appetizers and 4 entrees, sharing all family style. For the appetizers, we ordered the warm octopus salad, antipasto plate and polenta cakes with wild mushrooms. The appetizers were plenty for 4 people to share especially with the antipasto plate, check their website for a full description. For the main course, we ordered the whole fish roasted in the oven served with lemon and a very fruity flavorful olive oil, lasagna with braised wild boar ragu, and their famous giant meatballs filled with ricotta cheese, and gnocchi with braised short rib

The fish was a bit on the dry side but good - not worth the $$$ as indicated on their menu.
The braised wild boar ragu lasagna was ok. It was kind of sad looking lasagna, not really piled high with pasta and meat.
The meatballs (two lady's fist size were served) was a bit dry and not really filled with ricotta. The cookbook gives a different set of instructions from what was actually served. I was expecting the ricotta cheese to be oozing and overflowing. Also, I didn't think the chef's meat proportions made it anything special or different tasting from what I have made on my own.
And we were too full to eat the gnocchi so we took it home and I had it for lunch the next day - really good but not enough meat for the price.
Dessert, we ordered the apple crumble and amaretto ice cream. It was ok, not outstanding.

Our overall dining experience was ok - attentive service, a bit on the pricey side for food that wasn't inspirational. It's worth one visit if you haven't been, and if you're in the neighborhood.

Pros: another italian restaurant to try

Cons: a bit pricey for lack luster dishes

I've been here three times for the last 6 months and I must say I love this place! The location is not great but this is truly a gem, I wish they open one close to midtown area! Their staff, Diego, was always very helpful and accommodating. I took my friends here for a b-day dinner and another time just to hang out...and each time they gave us complimentary desserts, it was awesome! Plus when I didn't like the bottle of wine that we ordered, he was quick enough to offer the wine list, apologized and told us to pick another bottle that we like. Now, that's great service! I will come back again.

I said I would write a review of this place for the people I dined with here on Saturday night. the location was a bit offbeat considering the interior. The neighborhood is not very charming in itself, but once one steps inside, the high ceilings, exposed brick and amazing view of the wood burning oven takes you to another place. Perhaps a restaurant in Tuscany?? The service was decent. The food was delicious and very nicely presented. We ordered the Antipasti to share, with a side of green salad. The bread is extremely fresh and came with a nice ricotta and tomato sauce accompiniament. I enjoyed the chicken cutlet I ordered but I think the most appetizing dish was the pasta that the girl ordered next to me with butternut squash and stuffed ravioli. The meatballs were a bit large, but tasty and I didn't get to sample the lasagna orderd by another member of our table, the consistent Bret Stankley. His date, Pamela Vandecourt was a vegatarian and ordered the Ravioli I was eyeing seceretly behind my mountain of lettuce over chicken. Should have orderd it?? Dessert was uninspired with the apple crumble. And I am a big DESSERT person, so this was a dissapointment. I would opt for another cocktail instead of dessert next. Perfect for a double date, very romantic, quiet atmosphere. Will go here again.

Pros: Beautiful interior, woodburning oven, delicious pastas, romantic

Cons: "No specials except those written on the menu", dessert, air-conditioning too high

My boyfriend and I went last night for an early dinner and were not disappointed. A coworker recommended the place and it was romantic and warm. The menu is a little on the small side, but the choices all sounded fantastic. I had the whole roasted wild stripe bass and he had the ribeye. Both were generous portions and the ribeye was the correct temp. There was nothing fancy about the food, it was rustic and hearty. A great place for a dinner party or just a romantic date for two. And good service on top of that!

My boyfriend and I took our parents to Apizz this past wknd. The six of us were expecting to have a low-key, sophisticated dinner with what we'd hoped would be a quiet, conversational atmosphere. The evening started out more quietly and quite nicely. The brick oven is huge and acts as a really lovely backdrop to the evening. The walls are all exposed brick and incredibly homey. We were sat immediately.

As the evening progressed, however, the noise level of the restaurant became almost unbearable and yelling was required for us to hear each other speak. The food was only slightly above average. The lasagna with wild boar ragu was by far the best. The handkerchief pasta was average (on the plus side, it came with large and generous pieces of lump crab meat). My father's risotto was on the salty side. Dessert, again, was not particularly impressive. The best dessert by far was the flourless chocolate cake.

If you're looking to have a dinner that's similar to this, try Lavagna instead. Pastas here are about $26 on average, the rib-eye is $36, and the seafood risotto somewhere in the middle. Lavagna is cheaper and although it doesn't have the large brick oven for atmosphere, the food, in my opinion, is better.

Food is amazing. Service is great. Ambience is Perfect. A little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Call ahead as the space is small. Highly Recommended.

Cuta and cosy..Tried a few appetizers and main dishes and to be honest..each one was awesome..there were no dissapointments...will def go back. Went with 4 other people, that was a little tight, so I would not reccommend going with a large group. The place is cute and cozy and has a nice lounge downstairs if your just in the mood for cocktails..Nice wine list. The montepulciano is cheapest wine served by the galss at $7 and is great. I had the Ravioli di Zucca and it was SO SO good. Filling but you will be so happy with the decision...Not a cheap menu..but shouldnt be cause it is great/quality food...enjoy!

Chef LaFemina's second success after Peasant, Apizz is one the restaurants in New York that I rather keep the knowledge of its existing to myself. Once you walk in you'll instantly feel the wonderful change of the scenery and leave the city outside. Fire burning in the open hearth gives a warm and comforting feeling. Excellent design elements such as the brilliantly positioned large mirrors on the brick walls makes the place larger without disturbing.

Waiters are very helpful and quickly at your side when you need them. Most of the food comes out of the signature wood burning hearth in the open kitchen. I suggest the open ravioli, wild boar lasagna and crispy chicken as entrees and Apizz Margherita, Octopus and Mozzarella for starters but you can't go wrong anything from the menu. Nice selection of wine will make your meal even better and definitely save room for dessert.

I tired Apizz on a whim and it was fantastic. The food was great -- especially the ravioli con zucca, which is topped with butternut squash, it is mouth watering, and the blood orange mojitos are scrump·tious. The atmosphere is great for a date or just a nice get together with friends. Oh, and I love the lounge downstairs which is a nice waiting room, if you have to wait. Also, I totally recommend reservations.

date picked the place, I was a bit hesitant as I'm not that into pig latin, but dinner was so good it inspired us to write our first "critique". Cool place, not too crowded but best ap I've ever had - crisply prosciutto with something sugary/fruity, kinda like 5 star bacon but better. But seriously place was great, everything we ordered was fantastic and would highly recommend for a date (but trust me you don't need the second bottle of wine!!)

Had a great birthday dinner here. The Margarita pizza has the most delicious smoky wood oven flavor. It's a rectangle with fresh mozz and sauce. Husband had the foie gras with strawberry and the gnocchi with shortribs.. Amazing! Great warm atmosphere as well. Highly recommend it.

When you pass in threw the door you just know. The owner wanted it to be right and right it is. From the greeting to the gelato everything is a pleasent experiance. Our meals exceeded our expectation, which if you dine out often you'll know is a rarity. The wait staff was attentive, nice, and well informed. The one thing the wine list lacked was pretention and it wasn't missed. Overall I really must rally for a place that seems to care about my food as much as I do and the proof was on my dish.

One of the best meals I have had in NYC! Everything is so fresh and all the food has that stone oven taste which one can only really find in the heart of Italy...
The feel of the place is really intimate and cozy, the service is really friendly and patient...

no really, this place is cool and small and designed really well with this big wood oven, but i did not expect to have some of the best FOIE GRAS in it.

You know ther are not many places i know where you can get great Foie Gras and the person next to you can be eating 2 huge meatballs with ricotta cheese oozing out, and also amazing, its a very eclectic menu and yet some what simple. I have been here twice and cant wait to go back and try some of the dishes i missed, also the look on my guests faces when we walk on this empty block of projects and turn into this unassuming brick building that just blows them away is priceless.

the room is so cozy and warm you cant help but to love it right away, thats what made me worry about this place, usually places that look good, dont have good food, well this place does both, and well..i had a Foie Gras to die for, it was wrapped in applewood smoked bacon, anything wrapped in bacon is to die from really, the salmon tartare is the way i liked it mixed with herbs and a lovely sauce with creme fraiche, the risotts was good, but the loin of pork was better. It is a nice little place with some great original feel to it.

This place is so indistinguishable from the outside. What a surprise when you get inside. I really was not expecting to see such interesting items on the menu. Too many good choices. Polenta with black trumpet mushrooms, lentils with plum tomatoes, risotto, and wild boar lasagna to name a few. I went with the polenta to start. One word to describe this dish "PHENOMENAL". After that dish nothing could compete, but then I had the risotto as an entree with beautifully seasoned artichoke on top. I can't wait to go back and sample some of the other dishes.

This place is so indistinguishable from the outside. What a surprise when you get inside. I really was not expecting to see such interesting items on the menu. Too many good choices. Pros: Great Service, Intimate ambience, Serious menu selectio

.

It kills me to give this place a less than glowing review: the service was wonderful, and the room is beautifully cozy yet hip. But I thought the pizzas were terrible. The cheese was gooey and mushy, the crust had no taste, and I was challenged to find a single seasoning on the entire thing. I truly hope the kitchen was just having an off night, 'cause this place has great potential.

Cons: disappointing pizza

this restaurant has got something about it that you just love the second you enter the room, the warm cozy room is only enhanced by the delicious dishes that come out of this huge wood burning oven, a very special place to find down on the lower eastside,

they say all the food comes out of a wood burning oven, well i was really curious to see them do this speacial the night we were there which was lobster risotto, one of my favorite dishes, and well i do cook a mean risotto also, well no matter how they did it i really enjoyed it, it was so creamy and yet still had a bite to it, no mush in sight, my girlfriend really enjoyed her ravioli with wild mushrooms, and we had a half order of their meatballs which was a perfect fit to our entrees.

The food is outstanding, the service perfect, and the vibe is confortable and cool, not to cool though. hey dont realize how good they are yet, i have been to a lot of new restaurants around here, and none come close,, they have the right stuff, food, service, and good wine thats afodable.

I've been searching for the best pizza in NY and I think I found it at Apizz...but there's more than just great pizza here. The service was terrific, with a staff that is friendly AND knowledgeable (a concept lost on many restaurants). The manager was very attentive as well. The ambiance of the restaurant is very cozy and inviting. And the pizza is terrific. The pizza bianca (spinach, mozzarella, parmigiano and ricotta cheses) is very flavorful, with a smoky and nutty flavor. The margherita was also tasty. We also had to try the vegetable lasagna, after reading reviews about it, and it was every bit as tasty as they say. We will have to work our way through the menu on our future visits.

wow this place is so unasuming from the outside, we never expected this kind of design and cozyness in this place, i loved it, the lighting makes everyone look beautiful, props to the designer, also the food is what we keep us going back, i think they are a little undiscovered still, so getting in is not so bad.

If you are expecting the average run of the restaurant type of food then Apizz is not your kind of place. The pizza is made of the freshest ingredients and the wine list leaves you with some of Italy's finest offerings. The wild boar lasagna, which was recommended by our server, was fantastic. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.

there is not one thing i could say bad about this place ,,at worst the place is a little hard to get to if you live on the fabulous upper westside, but it was def. worth the trip. The pizza with buffalo mozz. and fresh tomatoes are so fresh and simple tasting, you could make a meal of it , but dont cause the wild boar lasagna is outstanding, and my wife loved her oven baked whole fish, the size of this oven is incredible, and they only burn wood, so simple yet so good...

when we read about this place it seemed like a new pizza joint , worth checking out to compare to our favorites, what we found was a really cool restaurant with better then average food and ok pizza, they use buffalo mozz. i think it is to tangy for pizza, so people love it, like my dinner companion, but what we both agreed on was the amazing pork chops and skirt steak that came out of this huge wood oven, we went for pizza but will go back for more...

After getting a recommendation from a friend, i checked out this cute LES establishment last night. Only being a block or two from my house will make this great place a new favoriate of mine. The atmosphere is warm, intimate, but fun, too. The complimentary bread comes with this great cheese and tomatoe sauce, ymmm! I shared one of the pizzas and eggplant appatizer and we had plenty for the both us to take home. i wish i had room for the wonderful looking desserts. Next time for sure!
