I have been a faithful customer of Tara's for years. I have gone for everything (manicure/pedicures to threading for eyebrows). The prices are a lot cheaper than the city where I used to get my "grooming" done. I have never had an issue, in fact, I have always recommended this place to my friends in the city. That is until they took HALF of my eyebrow OFF!! I have dark eyebrows so it is extremely noticeable when they are uneven. Imagine walking around with one and a half eyebrows! I was so upset. Then when I am explaining to her that this is unacceptable, the woman (who happens to be the owner) gets upset like it's my fault. She tells me that my eyebrows needed to be overwaxed so they could grow in evenly. Complete BS! Then she proceeds to talk about me to her workers like I dont understand. (I lived in Nepal for two years and understood everything they said). If you are going for something that can be easily fixed, i.e. mani/pedi go, it's a good price and you wont have to worry about looking like a complete ass if they mess up. However, if you need your eyebrows done, go someplace else. You might pay more but at least you wont look like a clown on crack!

Pros: cheap

Cons: rude, unsanitary, bad service, inexperienced

I just returned from one of the worst pedicure experiences of my life. I recently moved to Astoria from a town where you couldn't get a pedicure for less than $50. I was skeptical, but excited to be able to get one for so cheap. (Let me point out that I was only skeptical of how good they would do, not of my safety). Upon entering the salon, they were friendly enough. None of the 4 pedicure chairs were taken, yet they sat me in the one chair that did not have a back massager, was covered in electrical tape and the foot tub had non-working jets and the water was cold. I should have left, but didn't want to be rude so stuck it out....too bad for me, that when the girl was "shaving" the dead skin off of my feet (which only needed a pumice, not a razor), she dug a chunk of skin off of my heal. It hurt terribly! It took a good 2 or 3 minutes of me asking for a Band-aid until they gave me one. I then told them that it had been a terrible experience from the beginning. I wish I had gotten the girls name and license number, but I was just ready to leave the salon!
Use caution if you should go to Tara! It is a painful place to try and relax!

Chinese owned Tara Nail Salon is a nice treat along DItmars Blvd in Astoria. The ladies are nice and the prices are Queens worthy.
