The Museum of Natural History is truly a treasure of New York City. I have been there many times since childhood and never become tired of the all within it from the amazing collections of stones and minerals to the amazing rebuilt fossilized dinosaurs that tower above. Whether you have a child or not, this is a Museum to visit and learn.

The American Museum Of Natural History is my favorite place to hang out. You can spend days looking through it and still never finish. The exhibits are diverse and often the temporary ones are great, but the permanent ones are fantastic too. The planetarium is a fun place to bring kids and learn about the planets. The Hall of Biodiversity is a beautiful exhibit on the diversity and origins of life. The Hall of Vertebrate Origins traces terrestrial life back through the ancestry, picking up trends in evolution with beautiful life-size models. There's something for everyone and you're bound to learn lots!

This is it the monster of all Museums of its type. Most people come for the dinosaurs and stay for everything else. You can't really absorb it all in one visit so grab a guide and plan your journey. Artifacts from Africa or Inuit culture. Hundreds of stuffed animals on display. The dino bones. Check and see if the Butterfly room is open if so pay the separate admission and play close up with a variety of beautiful butterflies. A definite must visit when in New York.

PROS: Great Museum
CONS: Expensive eat before you get there

Touted as the "Museum for the 21st Century," the American Museum of Natural History truly lives up to that distinction. With twenty-five interconnected buildings filled with spectacular exhibitions, it is an exciting adventure for every generation. Must-see highlights include: the ambitious new Rose Center for Earth and Space featuring the Hayden Planetarium and Hall of Planet Earth, beautiful Fossil Halls with the worlds largest collection of vertebrate fossils, the Hall of Biodiversity with an immersive rain forest environment and the Spectrum of Life showcasing 3.5 billion years of evolution. Other permanent halls house the renowned and beloved dioramas including mammals, birds and reptiles (the Hall of Ocean Life, with its well-known blue whale model, opens its doors after a major renovation in 2003). Rated the best in NYC, the Museums Imax Theater shows a wide range of films. New exhibitions are introduced all the time, so come back often!
