I went to this restaurant last month with my father who was in town on business. It was amazing. I might say it is my new favorite in Ny. The food and service were both impeccable. We started the roasted fig dumplings which was excellent and then split the tomato salad , also great. We both had the duck which was by far the best duck I have ever had. Decor is great! . Great great great! Thanks for a terrific meal Town!

I don't usually hyperventilate and get all intimated by food. But all this place got some serious reviews and is one of the best in this fair city of ours. First of all the place was gorgeous and our seating was primo. I loved how everything was elegantly presented and not over frilly. The food was simple and tasty.I would recommend to anyone.

This place tries really hard to be something it is not. The management is terrible, and the food is amazingly overpriced. The food is good but you could do a lot better someplace else.

We went for restaurant week summer '08. We had 8:00 reservation and had to wait a few minutes (about 10) to be seated. Front desk seemd a bit disorganized and run by young immature staff. However a more senior person came to our aid and rectified things in a professional manner. The Chambers hotel is interesting and funky. Everyone waiting to dine seemed a bit dressed up. The bar is very small and you can't get near it if it's crowded. There is lounging and waitress service in the hotel lobby but they didn't start it up until we were close to being seated so we didn't get to enjoy that. The space is 2 levels, we were in the downstairs portion. It's slightly dated looking but it's pleasant and not terribly worn out. Our waitress was friendly and reasonably knowledgable. The portions were pretty small and I generally prefer that but the 1st course was itsy bitsy tiny, about 3 miniscule raviolini. We didn't get bread until after the 1st course but it was excellent. The main course was nice, we had paired wines with each course for $18 which was a nice offering. The carpet under my chair was wet for some reason and the dining room smelled like fish when you entered which was very strange. Overall the food was very good, the service professional and friendly but they seemed overwhelmed by the crush of RW. It's probably much more relaxing at other times. I had a "short rib" steak which is a confusing name as it was not a short rib at all. It was very good. Dessert was amazing, a hazelnut dacquois. I usually don't care about desserts either. House cocktails are excellent and worth a try - the passion margarita is delicious.

We checked in 20 minutes early for 8:30pm reservation, but finally seated around 9pm. Hostesses very unfriendly, bordering hostile when we asked whether our table was ready. Extremely small portions, not worth the price! Big Miss, Geoff Z!!!

After having some mediocre meals during past Restaurant Weeks, I decided to give it another try this summer. My friend and I had reservations for 6:30, and we were seated promptly (yes, it is early by NYC standards so that may have helped). Although many other items looked enticing, we decided to go with the prix fixe menu. The beef carpaccio was excellent! Both of our entrees were also great; neither the fish nor the steak were overdone. Our server was well-mannered, and although we lingered around after dessert until 8:00 when the restaurant was filling up, we were not rushed to settle the check. I have to give props to our server for her patience. She must have been asked a dozen times a night what a hazelnut dacquoise is, but she politely answered our question and gave the same answer to the table next to us when they asked the obligatory question. Overall, great food and great service!

I never signed on to write reviews, but Town was literally the worst dining experience I've had in NY to date. It was misrable enough to make me sign up a user profile. We had reservations at 9pm on a Monday night, and were not seated until 10pm. The hostesses and servers are all extremely arrogant and rude. The food was mediocre at best, but what left me and my party with a really bad taste in our mouth was the fact that we were all over charged on our credit cards. We were joking about going next store to Benihana's because it took a full hour to be seated, and looking back we probably would have had a better meal had we done so. I used to work in the service industry, and I understand busy nights, but there was no excuse for the poor service we received. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time!

Never before have I written a review. And never before have I left a restaurant in the middle of a meal. But unfortunately Town calls for both. While the service was fine, the food was horrible.
Here's a list of the nasty items they tried to pass off as food: stale bread; an "amuse bouche" that was supposed to be gazpacho and instead tasted like luke-warm, pickled tomato juice; sepia salad that tasted like dried apples soaked in fish juice... and that's as far as I got. After the salad, my stomach turned on me and I needed to leave asap. Sometimes when I read bad reviews, I assume a crazy person wrote them. I swear, I'm not crazy... I just enjoy a good meal. This was anything but. Be warned!

First of all, we had a 7:45 reservation and we weren't seated until 8:50. Don't tell me we have to wait 20 minutes when we have to wait over an hour! Once we were seated we waited 5-10 minutes before we received a MENU! Our waiter was arrogant. All in all, the food was good, but very expensive for bad customer service.

However, the kicker is that I checked my bank statement a few days later and I was over-charged! Another member of my party was charged FOUR TIMES the amount she paid. When I dine at this sort of establishment, I just expect more...

My advice= choose another restaurant.

We made reservations for 8:15. We got there 5 minutes early had to swim upstream past the bar to get to the host. Was told that we would need to wait approx 20 minutes for them to setup our table. We walked out at 9:00 when they told us it will be another 25 minutes before we get seated.

This place is great. I've been a few times, with a date, friends, co-workers and it never fails to please. The drink list is super, the beautiful staff is super and though the prices are a bit above what I prefer to pay, it's totally worth it!!

I went to Town for the first time right after they opened and did not have a bad word to say about anything.
The food was exquisite, the decor was luxurious and subdued and the service was world class.

More recently, while the food is still exquisite for lunch and dinner, the service has become noticeably slow.

I have also tried the breakfast once and was not impressed. The food was fine but I expect more from a place like this.

Ive been to Town several times and I have to say that chef Geoffrey Zakarian never fails to impress me with his cooking. When I went last week I tried the summer special which is soft shell crab and it was amazing. I would definately recomment the dish and the restaurant.

My friend reccomended this restaurant to me. I was skeptical about it being as wonderful as she made it sound, but it defintely lived up to her reviews. The food is wonderful, the service is friendly, the atmosphere is chic, and the chef is amazingingly talented.

I've been to Town on several occasions and have never been dissapointed. It is the perfect place for a nice dinner with a boyfriend or for a girls night out. The wine list is extensive and the food was impeccable. A little pricey but completely worth it, Town is one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

The lobster bisque was outstanding, but the wine list was a huge disappointment. There are only a handful of selections and everything is WAY overpriced. Nothing decent under $200... While the restaurant was very intimate & beautiful, the place was DEAD by 9:45. I guess I'm used to the downtown scene, but this is NYC -- and it was a Wednesday night. Service was rushed because the staff wanted to go home. Made me feel like I was on the wrong side of "town."

A 9.1? Maybe we were there on a less than stellar night, but Town is one place that I will not be returning to. We were seated promptly, at a fashionable table that seemed like it was located in the Sahara since it was about 1000 degrees. We had to ask our waitress about the heat, and we were told that they were working on it. I think they still must be working on it... The menu lacks any description of how the choices are prepared, and when asked, the waitress was less than helpful. We wound up asking the bus boy for a recommendation, and he was more helpful than anyone else there. The food was ok. That's it. Just ok. I had the scallop appetizer, which was very good, and the cod entree which was alright. Nothing special. My friend has the escargot appetizer (yum, best thing on the menu) and the snapper entree, which was recommended, although I don't know why. It lacked something, maybe taste? We had the hazelnut cake for dessert, which was very good, and during the dessert the waitress asked if I would like more wine, to which I answered no, so she took my current glass away, which was about 1/4 full yet. At $18 a glass, I was trying to cherish every drop. I guess she felt I should have finished it already. Bottom line, there are so many wonderful, trendy, fun places in the city, so don't fret about passing this one up. You won't be missing a thing.

We recently stayed at the Chambers Hotel and had the opportunity to meet friends at Town, the in-house restaurant. From the moment we were seated till the moment we went back to our room, the experience could not have been better.

The dining room itself is smallish, but the very high ceiling makes it appear larger. The decor is very warm, with lovely wood panels (maple, perhaps?) along the curved back wall. I was concerned with the tall expanse of the room it might be too loud for conversation, but that was not the case at all.

The food was, in a word, excellent. The menu seems to lean more toward fish and seafood, but everyone (even the non-seafood eater in the party) had many choices. The appetizers we sampled included rabbit and foie gras terrine, roasted asparagus, a special of salmon tartar and fricasseed octopus. The octopus in particular was very, very good. For entrees we enjoyed chicken, duck steak, sea bass and king salmon. Everything was prepared perfectly; it all tasted wonderful, and it all looked wonderful.

All I will say about dessert is you must try the chocolate soufflé. It is not to be believed.

The service was very good: engaging, without being obsequious, including the sommelier. We had no severs hovering over our table, yet we never had to ask for anything.

All in all, we had a very memorable evening. To anyone looking for a total dining experience, I would strongly recommend Town.

Probably one the richest and most flavorful meals; greastes gastronomic experience Ive ever had. The service was impecacble. The space was breath taking and the people were beautiful. Ok so it was expensive and the hostess had an attitude; Its a trendy NY restaurant-GET OVER IT! There are lots of diners in jersey that will seat you promptly at 3AM.

My most recent visit to Town was superb from start to finish. We actually celebrated Valentine's day there with a tasting menu. The food was executed flawlessly, loved the Foie Gras with Chateau dYquem vinegar, probably the best terrine in Manhattan. Service was not exactly stellar but smooth and considerate (valentine's day probably not the best time to enjoy dining out Anywhere in Midtown, but excellent just the same.
We did wait for our table for 30 mins. but once we were seated we enjoyed everything from champagne to Petit fours.

I wrote another review but it doesn't look like it posted. If it does, well, then you'll get a more detailed explanation as to why I am so adament about getting my point across. The service (other than out waiter Oren who was a great guy) was horrible. The hostesses were rude and we waited over an hour for our table regardless of our reservation. The food wasn't that great and again, the hostesses were extremely rude. This place is such a rip off it's almost crazy...actually, it is crazy. I still can't believe it. The only pleasant experience was the cigarette after the meal as we waited for a cab. That place can kiss it.

I was very excited to go to Town for a nice two hour lunch. The space is beautiful and the service was very good. BUT, my lobster bisque (my favorite soup) was too salty and seemingly had pieces of tofu (i hope). The chicken was very bland and the polenta that came with it was inedible. It was stuffed into a ring of some pink gooey meat, which was disgusting. Maybe I just ordered wrong, but this pace it's worth the money.

I have come here for lunch and dinner. The food is extremely well thought out and delicious. The swordfish was the best I've ever had. The veal tongue was very good. I was told that the raviolo and even the burger were wonderful. Supposedly the duck is better at Tao, but I tried it and was happy with it. The appetizers were also delicious. Most importantly, the food is obviously made with great care. The wine list is nothing short of phenomenal, but few wines if any are under $75. That said, the wine markup is reasonable. Lunch is reasonably priced, but dont expect to pay less than $100 per person for dinner. The food alone is $71. The atmosphere is great, bright and welcoming for lunch and romantic for dinner. Overall, this is the best dining experience Ive had in NYC.

A bunch of my girlfriends and I had heard mixed reviews about town-so we decided to see for ourselves one night-let's just say whoever is writing these nasty reviews on here about this place should quit it-their dishonest remarks could make someone miss out on an opportunity to enjoy such a great place. We had a great time-the service, the food, the overall atmosphere was amazing.
A friday or saturday night on the balcony with the ala carte menu, cocktails and dessert is the secret to a great girls night out.

Cons: long wait, overpriced, bad serive

.

Food is wonderul but portions small for the price. Service is in no way Three Stars. Being in the business, I doubt that anyone there has the expertise for proper service. Everyone is in a nice suit but no one is in sight. Zakarian should make changes. Overall, I am very disappionted that they cannot get service done right. It does no justice to the beautiful but small portions that are served. My server did not even know the dish when he served me. I found myself to be mislead by his reccomendations and wine selection. By the way, wine does not belong on the table cloth....Its better in the glass.....The phone system is terrible...Ten minutes on hold to get a reservation and 38 minutes after my reservation that I was seated.....

It is not acceptable to keep people waiting for over an hour past the time of their reservation for their table--what is the point of making a reservation? The maitre d's position was that we should consider ourselves lucky--some people had been waiting well over an hour. He was not even gracious enough to offer to pay for our cocktails. Some of the dishes were okay, but several were overly complicated. The chef misses the point by drowning dover sole in strong flavors. To top off a terrible evening, the last chocolate souffle was sold 20 minutes before I ordered one--making the inexcusable wait that much more painful. The only redemption is the sommelier and the wait staff.

When we arrived we thought the ambiance was nice but it took forever to get a server, our server was never the same, the food was under cooked and to top it off when we told the waitor that we were not happy, he didn't offer to compensate us at all. For a 70$ dinner, I expect a lot more and was very disappointed. There are too many other great places in the city, I would not waste my time there again.

Like everone else says, do not miss Town. It is by far one of the best combinations of food, ambience and service in the city. The food blew us away, in particular the desserts are not to miss. Don't leave without ordering the chocolate souffle for 2, it is worth the wait!

Yes, it is expensive, but most of the time it is very much worth it. The service can be a little ditzy if you eat in the lounge area, but service in the dining room has always been top-notch. Go for the food, and try to do it on a corporate card! It's just such a unique room and space, and staying at The Chambers is a great romantic escape- my boyfriend and I do it once a year even though we live in New York. Just don't order room service unless you want to wait an hour and have the wrong thing delivered. What can I say- it was a Sunday afternoon and Sunday's in restaurants are always hit or miss.

Very disappointing. The pre-fixe menu is not new to us, but we've never had to pour our own wine until Town. Truly sad. About the food: the lobster bisque was served in a deep bowl so I kept swishing my spoon back and forth in search of the two lobster pieces that were at the bottom of it. Would recommend a more shallow bowl for this 1st course. Town needs larger mussels, perhaps Mediterranean, because even the Prince Edwards are not worthy as a dish on the menu at all. My skate wing was so-so, but was truly over-powered by the amount of greens that were on my plate. Noticeably a large staff with light duties, barely worth a hubbub for all the hustle. ESPECIALLY since we had to pour our own wine all evening. To end on a good note: great pastry chef and the wine selection was good.

I was very disapointed with town! With a reservation i waited 45 minutes. I guess to make up for my wait, i was supposed to be impressed with the cheap glass of champagne, the rude waitstaff , and the so so food. Wow sign me up again! I do not recomend town to anyone!

Went to Town and was not that impressed. It took a while to be seated (even though I had reservations) so we went for a drink at the bar. The drinks were great but I had never a $36 round for 2 drinks before!!!! After being seated, we were sat at a wobbly table which was eventually fixed after a few tries. The food was delicious but the portions were tiny given the prices. Luckily I had a few pieces of bread to fill me up. If you want to go to a sharp looking restaurant and have good food and you don't have to worry about $, then Town is a good choice. If you are like most people and want to feel like you got your money worth, then there are many better choices.

If you appreciate delicious food served by a too-cool-for-school wait staff lacking social graces, Towns the place for you! Six of us went today for a late lunch for restaurant week, and upon leaving the restaurant, unanimously agreed that we were disappointed with our experience due to the sub-par service. We loved the food served during all three courses; the striped bass, duck a l'orange, lobster bisque and chocolate cake were sensational. We did NOT appreciate the 30-plus minute lull between courses, being seated under the stairs (where dirt from people's shoes above could fall on our heads), or that our bill came with dessert and coffee in an obvious attempt to rush us out. A staffer also told us to find our own coats in the coat closet. If restaurant week bothers the Townies so much they forget their manners, I have two words of unsympathetic advice: dont participate.

I went with four people, we all ordered different things and shared. There wasn't one bad piece of food on the table. I'm glad I wasn't paying because the bill came to $400.

Went to this restaurant last night and when my party arrived our table was not ready. When we were finally seated we proceeded to order a bottle of wine and appetizers as well as entrees. The waitstaff was not particularly nice. We received our appetizers and upon completing them WAITED AND WAITED AND WAITED for our entrees. After asking the waitress and wine steward where it was we decided to leave......it should not take almost 30 minutes to get food at a restaurant that charges almost $70 a person for a prix fixe menu.....I would not recommend this restaurant.

In celebration of my birthday, my fiancee and I went to Town in every sense of the phrase. A refreshing, albeit pricey, cocktail kicked the evening off nicely and the subsequent meal excelled in every way. A sublime appetizer of escargot risotto reduced my fellow diner to a state of bliss that few molluscs are generally capable of, in so doing setting a standard of excellence that the entrees would find almost impossible to match, though they came extremely close. This is not a cheap dining experience, but in terms of quality deserves to be the talk of the Town.

Pros: Outstanding appetizer, Excellent service, Event dining ambiance

Cons: Expensive, Cramped bar area

The space exudes a warm glow, thanks to the faux blonde wood backlighting along the back wall, which compliments the space wonderfully. The space manages to be initimate and slightly cavernous at once. The service provided was exceptional, with our wonderful server returning to explain the dishes. The food was sublime. Awesome reversal of textures play on the tongue. The roasted tuna had a meaty texture, while the medium rare lamb textured more like tuna. As mentioned, save room for the petit fours. They're as awesome as the rest of the meal.

I've been to Town many times, and the food is always good. The service has been mediocre at best and the last time I was there it was horrible. We had reservations for 3 and were on time. They made us wait for our table for an hour, after saying it was getting set up like 5 times. Sat us at a table for 6 where we were so far from each other we couldn't hear, and proceeded to be very rude. I go to a lot of nice restaurants and I have never been treated as badly as that evening. I will not be going back. I can't understand how a place, where service is key to making people happy and getting repeat customers, would allow its customers to be treated that way.

I was at Town last night. This place is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The service was flawless. The food was SO good. I don't know how you could ever go wrong here. Granted the prices are a bit high but you definitely get your money's worth in terms of quality. Would definitely go back!

Seated right away. Service was a 10. Excellent wine list. Portions a bit small but the food was very rich and I felt satisfied at the end of the meal. Definitly don't miss out on the desserts. All in all, an excellent experience!

I had a great experience at Town the other night. The drinks were AMAZING and the service was extremely friendly. Although I did not go down to the restaurant area, I was in the back lounge, my friends and I had a great time and the food was not only hot, it was incredible. Its definitely worth the effort to go and check it out for yourself. If the food is out of your price range then at least go for happy hour for a drink - although the drinks cost a bit more then the average happy hour bar after you receive one you would agree that it is worth it.

Town is so amazing! Such fantastic food in a glamourous and elegant setting. The sommelier was excellent -- we told him our favorite Chardonnay (which wasn't on the wine list) and he suggested one that was very similar to it and equally delicious. I started with the garlic risotto with escargot and black truffles -- it was so creamy and flavorful. For my entree, I got the rib eye and short rib -- cooked to perfection, so tender! Even the sides of potato puree and spinach were excellent. My boyfriend's halibut was slightly undercooked, so he sent it back -- the result was not only a fresh piece of perfectly cooked fish, but also a complimentary spread of FOUR desserts! I was in heaven! Only con was the cost -- our dinner for two was $400!

I do not understand all these positive reviewes. perhaps I just went on a bad night but it ws horrible. Took 70 minutes to get our food. The Salmon was cold and uncooked, we had to send it back. We ordered vanilla yogurt for dessert which was sour. Stay away unless you don't mind getting ripped off. You may think I exaggerated the above, but I didn't. Just a terrible experience.
