The service was impeccable. Family fun, quesadillas and an amazing red sauce along with beverages from Mexico. She did a wonderful job explaining the menu and the origin of certain food from their region of Mexico. The corn tortillas are house made and incredible. A must see/eat.

I went to Rosa Mexicano for the first (and last time) and left feeling really disappointed. For starters, anyone who knows me knows I love Mexican food. But this place just didn't do it for me. The selection lacks in what I would consider authentic cuisine and tries too hard to be chic. We ordered our food and I couldn't get over how SMALL the portions were! AND how PRICEY these small portions were! We had a couple of drinks and 3 appetizers and our bill came out to $75! Worse, the food was just so so, not good and definitely not great.. as far as Mexican food goes, on the bland side. The worst part of it all? We were still hungry and craving some good food by the time we left. How sad is that?

Rosa has been my favorite mexican restaurant for 2 years now and I constantly rave about it and recommend it to friends. However I went to Rosa last Wed and was astonished with how bad their service was. I brought a very good friend of mine that was vegetarian and called beforehand to let them know that 2 of the people in our party were vegetarian.

When we got there and got around to ordering, our waiter was extremely rude and unaccommodating. My friend asked for a quesidilla with her choice of filling she was promptly told that the chef would not accommodate requests not on the menu. We asked our server to check if the chef would make an exception considering she was vegetarian and there wasn't anything but a veggie starter on available on the menu. When he returned he said the chef agreed to make the vegetarian quesidilla however would charge us $28 (this was more than the meat entrees on the menu). We agreed to pay the additional and asked him if the dish would taste good, this was when he told my friend that since she was vegetarian everything would taste good. I was so angry at his comment!

This is certainly the last time I'll be visiting Rosa or recommending it to anyone!! There are more than enough mexican restaurants in the city to never have to step into this establishment again.

So, I went here on a date. She had an enchalada dish with shrimp and i had somethign from the grill. My dish consisted of a skewer with chroizo sausage and beef, they probably used half a chroizo... So all in all it was 1 skweer with 4 beef cubes and 3 pieces of chroizo. For starters of course we had an order of guac, asked for it to be made spicy which was ok, they made it table side.

We each had 1 drink, mine a beer and she had a frozen concoction that was not bad. All in all, with tip the bill was 2 dollars shy of $100. I am very big on money these days, btu have no problem shelling it out for a great eatery; after all, I'm a true food lover!

Bottom line is this, I only wish I had been before so i could have gone DOWNTOWN to a much better establishment such as Mole or Mercadito where we would have had much more bing for the buck food, ambiance, and money wise. Hey, even dos caminos woudl have been better!

Sorry Rosa mexicano, but aside from the 2 stars for the service, you guys stink!

I've been here once, not to say that the food was bad. The experience was so-so. I went with some pretty let's say experienced critics of food and they were unhappy about some menu items that were missing.

In any case I think this is a nice place. Interesting setting.

Rosa Mexicano and I started our relationship in 1996 and have been loyal to one another ever since. From the moment I arrive I know to start off with a La Suprema or two. A great atmosphere accompanied by delicous drinks, atmosphere and very friendly staff. Priced well and is great for meeting with clients or hosting special events.

This is my first time ever writing a review but i thought this place deserved it. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. Definitly get the guacamole and try the crab stuffed enchiladas (delicious). An upscale mexican restuarant done right!

Cool scene, pretty good location but after that its pretty average. I expected a lot more based on other reviews. Service was ok. Price would have been ok if meal was better than average. Just had some really good Mexican food in San Diego and it was miles above this place.

Rosa Mexicano is outstanding. The food is fresh and flavorful, and the staff is efficient and friendly. Try the Guacamole, Enchiladas de Mole Poblano, and the Sangria. I can't get enough of this place!

WAY WAY WAY overrated My gf took me here and the place was packed on a tuesday night. The guacamole i will say was very good. Margaritas were also pretty good but the food was insanly priced for mexican cuisine and was anything from authentic. Swordfish and filet mignon? who are they kidding. The black beans were obviously a can of goya black bean soup and so was the yellow rice, no flavor or sofrito or anything. Give me a piece of pork or something in the beans for a little taste. the service was good but it was obvious they wanted you out of there to sit the next couple quickly.

I've been to Rosa several times, sometimes for dinner sometimes just to sit at the bar and have appetizers. I had a much better eating experience sitting at the bar having a Corona and their fantastic fresh guacamole. The bar area can get very crowded later at night but it's perfect if you get there around 7.

I thought this would be exactly like Dos Caminos but it surpringly is not. Don't get me wrong, Dos is my all time favorite place to eat But it was a pleasant surprise to dine at Rosa. The Pomegranate Margaritas are sooo good!!! The guac was great, not sure if as good as Dos. But the entrees were delicious!! so unique and authentic. The filet mignon in mushroom sauce and crabmeat enchiladas were scrumptious!!

The food here is amazing and authentic. The servers are knowledgeable, acommodating, and very very nice. For dessert I had a tres leches, which was delicious and different than any tres leches I've ever had before. A tip for those who don't like tequila like me: Ask to see the dessert drinks menu, which includes some alcoholic beverages that don't contain tequila (All the drinks on the regular drink menu have tequila). Also, be sure to specify how you like your spice or if you prefer no spice at all - most dishes here are somewhat spicy! Overall, it was a delightful experience and I will definitely return.

Rosa mexicana had some pretty good margaritas and some unqiue and tastey mexican food. The appetizers were a little small but very good and recommended as were the main dishes. All of them come with the opt to make them spicer....don't use too much or you'll be paying for it later!

Decor is nice and the service was on point. I found it a little odd that the male bathroom was all the way in the basement. Oh well.

Rosa on 1st is one of my all time favorites. I have never been disappointed with a meal. The service is good and the wait staff are friendly. True that this place is a bit pricey but the food and drink are worth it. The guacamole served with warm freshly made tortillia and chips is fantastic. The sangria is robust and flavorful, but you must have a pomegranate margarita. YUM! My all time favorite dishes are the grilled shrimp with rice, pan seared chillian sea bass and the filet mignon with mushrooms. We just had a dinner party last night and everyone was happy with thier meal. I can't wait to go again! PS. Make sure you make a reservation!

A young upper east side neighborhood crowd the night that I went here with friends.
Pricey but very interesting Mexican food that is not the average fare. The drinks are good but expensive and the dishes are just as pricey. Guacamole is made at your table and is quite entertaining.
I would suggest coming to this place if you want to experience Mexican haut cuisine or impress a date. Reservations are highly suggested.

You can not go wrong with teh tableside guacamole. It is son fantastic. Order pollo con mole, the mole sauce is dervived from chocolate with a poblano pepper like taste. This place is not for casual dining and is a bit pricey, but well worth the money. Make reservations.

Filet Migon with wild mushrooms in a tequila cream sauce=to die for!
The filet is "butterflied" and covered in this amazing tequila cream sauce. I left very satisfied with my order.
For aptz me and my girlfriends ordered the guac. which they make right in front of you and we almost liked the bowl clean. I highly recommend this resturant if you are looking for a great Mexican spot!!

Delicious Mexican food and drink! The guacamole for 2 is fresh and delicious, made to taste. The pomegranate margarita is the best margarita I've had in NYC in years - it's something very special. Thereafter, the food only got better, we had the grilled filet mignon and the beef tenderloin entrees, and a delicious fresh mango/coconut ice cream dessert. Absolutely delicious, and for a 2-person meal, getting out of there for not much more than $100 made for a very pleasant experience. Make sure that you make reservations

Three friends and I went here last night for Restaurant Week and were sorely disappointed in our choice. The prix fixe Restaurant Week menu was not very interesting or appealing. The appetizer of oysters that I had were disgustingly salty and my salmon entree was incredibly dry. The margaritas were nothing special and were $10, though that's not too outrageous in this city. What was most upsetting was that they charged us TWENTY-EIGHT DOLLARS for guacamole for the table. It was good, but not worth $28. While the waiters were friendly, service was rather slow. Overall, I found Rosa Mexicano to be far below average and will never recommend it or return.

The food wasn't great for the price we paid. It is extremely overrated. Nothing impressive. Extremely crowded. I would much rather go eat Good Fine Mexican Cuisine at Maya, Mexicana Mama or Dos Caminos. I expected much more from Rosa Mexicano. Don't waste your time and money here.

We've been to this place a few times in the last couple of years and never been impressed. A couple we hang with likes it a lot but, we don't see it as anything but an overcrowded, overpriced, average Mexican food joint. The Margaritas are no different than anywhere else (smaller, though!), the guacamole (their "specialty") is flavorless, and the food is only a cut above the regular Tex-Mex stuff you can get in dozens of places in the city. Maya has much better food and puts a different spin (i.e., "creative") on theirs and gets much better flavors to boot. Maz Mexcal has more variety and better Margaritas. We know Rosa Mexicano gets all the press but, like I said, "We don't get it."

After reading previous reviews of this restaurant I was excited to try it out with a group of friends. Unfortunately, it was some of the worst food I have ever had and the service was abyssmal as well. The guacamole is tasty and some of the entrees were creative, but the praise really must stop there. The actual taste of many of the dishes (I went with a large party and tried a bunch) was bland and disappointing. The musicians are a nice idea, but really make it impossible to talk to anyone in your party and impossible for the waiters to move around the restaurant (twice members of my party were bonked with trays by waiters)! It was painful to pay the steep tab for such a mediocre experience.

The food at Rosa Mexicano is extremely overrated, I have never understood why it continually gets the ranking it does. What is wonderful is the guacamole, when combined with a couple of margaritas at the bar it is perfect. And the bartenders at the 60th Street location are great, the atmosphere too. But forget about the food, especially for the money. It is the most tasteless mexican I have ever had.

Why is this place rated so high?? Everyone goes here, but why? The food is served cold and is not that great. Don't go close to closing or your dining expierience will be very very short. Ask for margaritas the way you want them, the house margs are nothng to to cheer about.

We had to wait 20 minutes- I made a res 6weeks in advance. We were seated next to a door that had such a horrible draft, everyone around us were wearing HATS and SCARVES thru-out their meals. When I politely asked to move, the waiter was rude and he tried to sit us at the table right next to us- which was equally unacceptable!! Normally, I'd have left but seeing as it was a special occasion we stayed. But things only got worse- the water was never replenished, the food took forever and was COLD. I realize sometimes things go wrong, but it made things worse that the Maitre D or waiter never apologized or tried to compensate for our disappointment. To be fair, the food was excellent- when we received it but service and price aren't worth it. My advice is if you want quality Mexican food, get take-out.

I cannot see why anyone in NYC would pay the over-the-top prices for this place, but it still packs them in. After waiting more than an hour for a table (forget about visiting on a Saturday night), we sat down only to be conned into paying for the expensive chips and dip at the table. Once we sat down after standing and waiting for our table for more than an hour, the waiter asked us if we wanted something to drink, but then he only said "guacomole?" We thought it was as natural as giving us salsa to munch on since there were no chips on the table. After opening the menu, we learned that it was $14! And it tasted terrible! Two people ended up costing $120! And we each only had two drinks. Although the service is nice, the food is boring and untasty. I will never return.

Big thing to know before you go: If you love the typical American interpretation of Mexican food, you may not like the food here. If you have spent time in Mexico City and loved the local flavors, this place is a must. This is true Mexican cuisine, and as such, the flavors are subtle. Cocoa, cinnamon and other flavors many Americans do not associate with Mexican food are found in these dishes and they are done wonderfully. I had the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. If you haven't had mole sauce before, ask the server to bring some to the table for you to taste first.

The staff is amazing and the experience is worth the price tag. Be adventurous! Try it!

Unfortunately, I don't think I could describe in words how disappointed we were with this restaurant. We went there in a group of 6 and even with all of the great ratings this place gets, we found the food to be below average. No one was happy with their meal. Even though the food was prepared nicely, it was definitely lacking flavor. I had the lamb shank, which was highly recommended, and found it bland as could be. Others had quesadillas, sliced steak, and chicken with mushrooms (is that even mexican food??) and they felt the same way as I did. On top of that, we felt beyond ripped off with the cost of this meal ($60/per person). The service, however, was excellent, but definitely not enough to make up for the poor food and skyhigh price. Bottom line - go somewhere else.

Unfortunately, I don't think I could describe in words how disappointed we were with this restaurant. We went there in a group of 6 and even with all of the great ratings this place gets, we found the food to be below average. No one was happy with their meal. Pros: guacamole

Cons: Extremely expensive, Food lacks flavor, poor value

Wow, the service was very snotty...from the maitre'd to the waiters. The food was expensive, and did I say that the service was snotty?

This place is always packed with a young, good looking crowd (especially the bar). The cuisine is more of an authentic Mexican rather than the Tex-Mex that we Americans are so used to. The guacamole is made at your table and you can ask the guy who makes it to tailor it to your taste. Unfamiliar with true Mexican cuisine, I tried the Huilachoche (which wasn't bad), and the cactus pads (interesting). The sangria was nice just like our hostess who tried to accomodated us as best as she could. There was a wait for tables and then we were sat near the bar which IS LOUD and CROWDED so it was hard to hear my dinner companions. Pricey, but then again, it's the Upper East Side. Bring your credit cards!

Great experience. I would recommend start with a serving of guacamole (maybe the best in NYC) and good 'tequila con sangrita'...

Great for groups... I went with other 4 people and we had a great time, not very loud (of course this depends on the day of the week and the time), excellent service, and the price... a little bit expensive... but considering that this is the best Mexican Restaurant in town it is totally understandable ($50 for drinks, guacamole, entree, dessert, coffee, tip and tax)... If you are looking to have a good Mexican dinner for a low price I would recommend another restaurant... if you are looking for the best Mexican dinner and a place to impress... I would totally recommend this or its sister restaurant in Lincoln Center...

Great if you have no taste buds. Food is over priced and the coriander is overdone in all of their dishes- I guess they haven't heard of other spices. The guacamole tasted chunky green mud. However, the decor was interesting, the service was pleasant, and although the margaritas were pricey, they were delicious.

I searched this site for the best Mexcian restaurants in New York and decided that Rosa Mexicano had the best authentic Mexican food. I went to dinner there last night and was very happy to find that the food was as delicious as the other reviews stated.
I was even happier to find that the service was nothing like I read. I couldn't have found better service at my Mom's kitchen, and my Mom's service is exceptional.
The atmosphere was relaxed and the wait staff was very attentive and helpful with recommending some items on the menu.
The food is a bit pricey and I wouldn't go there every day, but next time I feel like real authentic Mexcian.. Rosa's will be the first place I look.

GREAT food, and great Sangaria.
The service sucked though.

Would definitely go back, but not when I have any kind of time limit.

As a Mexican living in the New York area, I have a hobby of trying Mexican restaurants in the city, searching for authentic food. So far, I 've found that Rosa Mexicano is the best restaurant serving authentic Mexican food. From the guacamole, to the tortillas, to the entrees, drinks, and desert, it's excellent. Sure, the "hostess" can be rude, but when in the mood for authentic Mexican food, there is no better place in NYC, yet. As for the "hostess", if you're going be put off by a rude person in NYC, you're in the wrong city.

I am half Mexican and this restaurant is a tribute to what REAL mexican food tastes like. Not Taco Bell, Not Taco Express. People worried about the $$ PUUHLEASE!! It is absolutely worth it. The tableside Guacamole alone is definitely one of the best I have tasted. The classic Mole Poblano... superb! Maybe some of the Negative comments came from people who were expecting cheap tacos.... not Authentic Comida.

This is by far the most overrated restaurant in New York. I has just closed a deal and took some very important clients to dinners. One client, was lactose intolerant, and requested that the cheese be left off the top of her dish. Well, despite the fact that this would only involve not drizzling cheese on top, the chef, who has clearly confused himself with a Le Cirque chef, said it would look ugly and refused! Are we tring to satisfy our guests or ourselves! Ugh, save yourself the trip and head to Maya instead.

p.s. the food was way overrated as well

This place is awful. Went here on Wednesday at 6pm. Not only did the hostess give us (only 6 not 30 people) the dirtiest look when we walked in, there was no one there and they refused to sit us. Then they said in 10 minutes we would have a table so we decided to go to the almost invisible bar area. The bartender was telling us the seats we sat in at the bar were taken. Of course I questioned it since there were no indications that we were in someone's seats. But instead of taking our drink order, he started to pick a fight with a friend of mine. Then the manager came over and told us that there are no tables available for us. I refuse to go back here, even if some say that the food is great.

Hey, I've noticed this restaurant for a while,, really pretty. BUt after walking into the restaurant, I was even more impressed with the interior. REally pretty, really romantic. Best of all, its great food for great value. I went there on Valentine's day and they don't charge the customers with all that over priced menu and stuff. Will return again.

Started with the guacamole and it was good, but *fourteen dollars* worth of good? The famed pomegranate margaritas were tasteless. My meal arrived cold so my wife very politely asked to have it heated up. As I was waiting and waiting for my dish, the waiter stopped by to say it would be arriving "very, very hot," said in a condescending way, like "you wanted it hot, well you're gonna get it hot." Several minutes later it arrives (my wife had long ago finished her dish) and he says again "it's very, very hot." Same tone. Well, I lost it. He said he would go get the manager and five minutes later the manager insisted on buying us coffee and desert (ten more minutes). An awful experience. Go to some of the real authentic Mexican restaurants in Brooklyn and Queens, eat better, and save $100 in the process.

Even if you think that you don't like Mexican, you must give Rosa Mexicano a try. Unlike any other Mexican restaurant i've been to. The guacomole is made to order at your table while you wait for your entree. The frozen margaritas are out of this world. The menu is very extensive and the prices are very reasonable.

My husband is Mexican, and he just loves the place! We always take friends and relatives there for a real treat. Upscale Mexican food - in an authentic setting.
