The special tonight was gnocchi. Well, I have eaten my gnocchi my whole life made by my nanny who comes from Naples, Italy. So, I know how gnocchi should taste. The gnocchi at Landmarc were undercooked. When I asked the waiter to have it more cooked, the cook refused saying that this is the way he cooks them. Well, personally, I don't care how the cook likes it. It was undercooked. Period. At the end, they did not charge us for the gnocchi. Thanks for the gesture but I was still hungry. My recommendation don't order gnocchi at landmarc.

The atmosphere is great!! I wasn't too impressed by the food though. I ordered the salmon and asked for it cooked all the way through, which is definitely was not. The waitor noticed my disgust and offered to take it back to have it cooked more. When my food was brought back out - it still wasn't cooked. I ended just taking it to go and cooking it at home. My date ordered the steak - which he liked. Very cute spot - but be prepared to spend lots of $$$.

Even though I moved out of NYC over a year ago, I can't stop raving about this restaurant to all friends and family who visit the city...and I can't wait to go back to eat there again!!!
If you are looking for a fantastic high-quality (not too expensive), non-touristy restaurant, then the TriBeCa location is your place! There is also a location in Columbus Circle at the Time Warner Center, but I hear it's not as good.
First off, I'm a big fan of red wine, but hate the mark-up that you have to pay to drink at a restaurant. Fortunately, Landmarc is known for having an amazing wine selection...and the prices are just BARELY over retail (about 20% higher...versus over 100% in most restaurants)!!! You can only get a 1/2 bottle or full bottles.
The calamari w/ spicy tomato sauce, grilled octopus salad in chorizo vinaigrette, hangar or skirt steak w/ chimichurri sauce, and the mussels & fries are to die for...and for dessert, you have to make sure to try the ice cream cone sampler!
I'm getting hungry just thinking about this place!!!

Everyone always talks about this place like it is good, and unfortunately I get fooled into going back. The wait staff is always sub par, the food is never that great (especially given the price) and I always leave feeling like I was some how cheated. The sandwiches always seem greasy, the mussels are okay, and the desserts are pretty good. Fortunately, I will not be fooled into going back anytime soon.

Four of us went there on a Friday night.. We arrived around 9pm and were told there would be a 45 minute wait (they don't take reservations). We sat at the little bar at the back and got a great glass on Sauvignon Blanc. The manager came over to chat to us and gave us menus while we waited. The table was ready about 45 minutes later. We were seated upstairs just one table back from the window. It was REALLY cold. Two of us put our jackets on and the guys put their scarves on. We were told the heating was on full.... In any event, the food was great and the waitress gave good suggestions for wine. Goatcheese profiteroles and calamari were really good. The grilled tuna was delicious though a little overcooked for me. The chickpea stew it's served with was great. The steak and pasta special were pretty good too from the looks of things! I gave Landmarc just 3 stars out of a possible 5 because it really was so cold that it affected the whole experience.

No heat or very little and it was 42 degrees outside. Windows were filthy upstairs, hope kitchen was cleaner. Asked not to have french fries told no subsitutions, not even some additional salad that you buy in enormous bags premixed? Food is very salty, why is that, is the meat now a bad cut? Very noisy and of course lots of screaming children. Was forced to wait for my coat in a drafty doorway because I had dared to check it. When I complained I was scowled at. Not worth the wait or the money.

One of my favorite places in the City. The steaks are always great, grilled on an open flame and with a few tasty sauces to choose from. For vegetarians there is the portabella mushroom steak as well. Wine prices are unreal. Not marked up and some of the higher end ones are actually less $$ than in the wine shop!!!! We usually have a half bottle of champagne to start, there are quite a few to choose from, I believe the Bollinger, my favorite is $24.00 or something like that. It gets very crowded and they do not take reservations forsmall groups but it is always well worth the wait. Highly recommend the dessert sampler.

i googled "late night dessert" and Landmarc was the closest spot so...i locked my kids in the bathroom and took off in search of something to cure my craving. what i found was a really lovely couple involved in a booze fueled domestic dispute on the patio...we enter, then ordered some ice cream cones...the service was good...ice cream - blah, cones - blah, nutella eclair - blah!!! wouldn't go back. it would have been soooooo worth the walk to the all night creperie in the LES bitchezzzz.

My friend and I pulled this restaurant out of a NY Times review of places for late-night food - we arrived for dinner at 1 a.m. There were only a couple of other tables full at that hour, but the steaks were tasty, the waitress attentive and friendly, and the mini desserts inexpensive and delicious. A great find, I'll definitely be back there in the wee hours.

Landmarc is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. The service is always friendly, the space is inviting and the food is delicious. But the highlight if this joint is the wine list. This is without a doubt the BEST and LOWEST markup wine list in the city. On average we pay about half of what we'll pay anywhere else or the same bottle of wine and their half bottle selection is wonderful. The desserts are simple but for $15 you can get ALL of them and they offer ice-cream in cones and sweet cotton for the kids. It is a true neighborhood place that is worth traveling for.

My boyfriend and I go here for special occasion dinners, but also just for weekend brunch. It's kind of a hidden gem, so I really shouldn't be talking about how great it is, but it really does deserve amazing reviews. The food is terrific. I've never had anything remotely bad, nor have any of my dining companions. The best things about it though are the wine list, which is extensive and super reasonably priced, and the dessert list, which is a bunch of inexpensive, small, delicious desserts so you can order a bunch of them and share. The ice cream is the best of them, and trust me, I've tried them all!

the restaurant is trendy in that industrial tribeca way (if you like that sort of thing), and service is good. the best thing this restaurant offers is meat - any meat - and its side dishes. i made the mistake of ordering the "pan seared" monk fish, which actually tasted more pan fried, and was dry around the edges. it came on top of grease-soaked watercress and fried potatoes, so i felt that basically my attempt to eat a less-fatty fish dish was fruitless.

if i am going to eat that much grease, i want it to be from meat. and landmarc's meat is good. had a taste of ribeye, which was a bit fatty but i love that part. ate several helpings of the steak tartare, which is well worth the amount of lipitor you need to take as a result of consuming massive quantities of red meat. even the bone marrow appetizer was good.

the sides were good, as well - swiss chard and ratatouille are worth ordering.

what i didn't like: it was quite dark, so feel free to go there if you don't want to be recognized, or want more flattering lighting to cover up age or acne. i also HATE when restaurants give you a ridiculously small portion for big prices - it's like a freaking mini cooper. with the exceptions of the bone marrow, entrees and wine (ha.), this was the case. the fois gras terrine was delicious, but it can easily be called "wafer thin". the salmon carpaccio was okay, but wouldn't fill even a quarter of a bagel. and the sides...while delicious, they were about the size of a cup of soup - hardly enough for two people, which is robbery considering their cost. and don't get me started on the desserts. one person ordered the tiramisu, to which i said, "that's funny. i'm done and don't remember eating yet." maybe this restaurant would be better suited to los angeles? however, everyone there swore off red meat in the 1980s.

6 of us went for dinner at 7:30 on a Wednesday night. It was a full house: a little warm but not loud. For starters the mussels with shallots, wine, and parsley were delicious as were the goat cheese profiteroles and the calamari. The olive oil is awesome if you enjoy rosemary. All members of the party enjoyed their main dishes which ranged from monkfish to hangar steak to the risotto. I was impressed with the fact the risotto was not over-salted as tends to be the fate of this dish usually. My side of haricot verts was perfect, had a great crunch and flavor. Desserts were on the smallish side but for $3 we had no complaints. The cones were a perfect after dinner cap. Very reasonable wine list made for an easy on the wallet dinner...2 bottles, apps, main courses, and dessert for all was a mere $57 pp. Definitely recommend Landmarc.

This was a mother's day special. Tho they didn't have any special mother's day menu. all the food was prepared well, salads, the french toast, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. But we sat upstairs where their a/c was not operating (under repair) so was quite hot/humid. For the prices set here, you would think they would go to any lengths to get their equipment repaired to ensure customer comforts. Most expensive brunch I have had in a while. I would recommend Thalia's in theater district for 1/2 the price with their own unique menu. French Toast was delicious! Don't order bacon as this was like bacos - hard to chew canadian style chunk bacon! SUMIT: Visit at least once, tho didn't have the pleasure of dinner here. Good choice for brunch but be prepared to open your wallet!

The food at Landmarc is some of the best you'll find anywhere. Everything is so flavorful, right down to the dipping oil for bread with fragrant rosemary. Nothing is bland or just "ok", everything you taste has "umph"!

Just one or two caveats....
-Under entrees they have a list of various red-meat steaks listed on the menu and one specifically listed as "Portobello Mushroom" for $21.99. I assumed this was a steak entree because it was listed under the other steak items, however when my entree came out, it was 2 very large portobello mushrooms caps grilled with some greens on the side (yes for $21.99). I have to say although I was initially dissapointed at the mis-order, the dish was phenomenal tasting, although I think it's misleading in appearance on the menu.

-One other thing....when I was there it wasn't crowded, maybe 30-40% full. If you are a party of only two they will not seat you at a 4 person table, because another couple asked were told no. A party of two have to sit at their two-party small tables which are paired two by two with another 2-party table. Now this was not a problem because there was not another couple sitting at the table adjacent to ours, but if they were another couple sitting there, these tables are way too close for comfort. It's like literally sitting as a party of 4! I understand the room is small but c'mon!

Despits those two small boo-boos, I would enthusiastically recommend eating at Landmarc. The food is worth the trip hands down.

I live a few blocks away from Landmarc, so my roommate and I order it all the time. Although I much prefer to dine in for the atmosphere, I can say that their takeout is just as good as dining in... which is tough to say for most restaurants. Everything always arrives very quickly; hot dishes are hot; cold dishes are cold... it's always really great.

Don't miss: the wine list is AMAZING. The markups are very slight, so this is likely the very best value on wine you'll find in the city. Great selection, too... and lots of half bottles, which I can always appreciate. As far as food goes, the creamed spinach is the best you'll ever try, the mussels are outstanding, the rock shrimp risotto is a favorite, and the burger is just plain tasty. When dining in, I love the cheese plate, too. Another great value... (and don't miss the olive oil when dining in - not sure what they put in it, but it is de-licious!)

Bright and friendly welcome for a relaxed saturday lunchtime. Service was attentive without being over-bearing. Roasted marrow bones were super delicious but definitely not for the faint hearted. A dull sounding pork chop was actually juicy and flavorful with lovely sides of roasted apples and sweet onions. Cheese plate covered all the bases from an aged gouda to a runny and heavenly robluchon. The wine list is truly stunning, can there be better value in NYC, America or the world ? A mix of cult wines (Ch. Musar '97) to the classics such as Pichon-Longueville-Lalande are all priced very reasonably compared to retail. A restaurant for wine lovers rather than hardcore foodies.

Simply said, the city needs more restaurants like Landmarc. With its simple, understated food items that always come out more delicious than you could have anticipated and it's ever attentive and down-to-earth staff, this restaurant is a real winner. The last time I was there, I had the most amazing light but flavor-filled salmon tartare and then experienced a completely unexpected flavor explosion with the Cacio e Bevi (sp?) which was basically spaghetti, olive oil and cheese -- but trust me, it was SO much more than that. Then my husband and I took out a mint chocolate chip cone "to go." So awesome. The owners should be proud and I can't wait to try out the new location as well as their new restaurant Ditch Plains. I hope they don't disappoint!

Everything here from apptzr, entree & dessert is good. Great people, ambience, staff and food. Lunch & Dinner have always been great and good for couples or groups. I prefer upstairs area which is away from the oven, noise & tiny bar area. Good value as well. don't recommend their seafood dishes though but mussels are good. The cheese tasting plate is interesting & so is their dessert tasting plate.

We stayed at the Tribeca Grand for the night and walked around looking for a place to eat dinner at 10 pm. Though we had to wait a half hour or so on a week night (this place is hopping!), it was worth the wait. We were seated upstairs, a little less noisy, steaks and calves liver EXCELLENT. Half bottles of wine were SUPER w/ great selection. Service couldn't be better. Can't wait to go back!

The main reason I go to Landmarc is because of their wine program offering half-bottles for essentially the same price that other restaurants charge for by the glass. That said, the bistro-type fare is equally tasty (particularly the steaks and other grillled items) and portions are generous. I don't think the desserts quite match up to the rest of the menu, but the home-made caramels presented with the cheque are a nice touch. Service is friendly and discreet. Definite worth a visit if in the neighbourhood.

Definite worth a visit if in the neighbourhood.

.

A very diverse and appealing menu, and even better food. Our wait was short, and more than worth it. As the previous reviewer mentioned, the wine list is great on both price and selection (half bottles that are actually interesting). Toughest part of the night was choosing what to eat, and the steaks and pasta were both winners.

met my girlfriends here and were sad we had to wait for everyone to arrive to be seated... but WELL WORTH THE WAIT since we got the curved plush banquette upstairs. it was like our own private room, drowning out the din of the surrounding patrons. the food was awesome (i had the portabello steak), the waitress was hilarious and attentive, and the wine pricing and selection (and recommendations to our taste!) were tremendous. be sure to check out the "one of each" dessert tray and hunt country ice wine after dinner. yum! I felt like a celeb!

With a recommendation from a co-worker, I headed to landmarc with clients in tow. I expected to wait, but where? The bar area was so cramped I felt embarresed with my guests. The staff would tackle there way through the crowd, with out much choice I suppose, to get to the dining room. Dumb layout. The hostess, attractive to the eye, but unpleasant and filled with attitude set the tone for what would be a domino effect of error. The wine list was a bargain, but with close-out wines, what would you expect. My nicoise salad arrived with NO tuna! When the entree's arrived they came in intervals. Two meals then a 10 minute wait and then two more. I actually liked the dessert idea, but when it arrived parts had begun to melt. Talk about bursting a bubble. Get it right first, then try the attitude!

Congrats to Landmarc for winning Citysearch's 2005 Best Upscale Casual Dining. They absolutely deserve it. I can not think of another place in the city that it is so welcoming so all kinds- dates, business dinners, families- lots of children earlier in the evening, late night dining- till 2 am all week. The rezzies policy can be tough but the staff is always eager to offer options. Great service, one of the only places in the city where not only the waitstaff but also the hosts will recognize regular customers.

I was excited to try this restaurant for my friends 30th birthday. Called to make a reservation and the person who answered the phone was so cold. I asked if I could make a reservation for 5 and she replied that they only take reservations for 6 and up. She then proceeded to read me their rules and policies. I asked if there was anyway they could accommodate us, she then proceeded to read the rules and policies again! I was so excited to try this restaurant but was really put off by the person's rude and condescending tone. I just wish she was a little more personable and then maybe we would have tried it out. Oh well, if I knew I was going to be read a script it would have been better hearing it from a recording then a rude person.

Great meal, nice restaurant/layout. Impressive menu, even more impressive wine list.
The wait staff were a bit lacking unattentive... didn't refill our wine glasses, etc... Limited, unethusiastic dessert menu... but overall its good place to dine.

Landmarc is a favorite and habit forming whether its a weekday night, a late night or a weekend meal. The menu is steady and strong. If you are in the mood for steak, fish, poutry or pasta - they have it. The mussels are very good and the sauce options make them interesting on each visit --and the fries are yummy. The wine list is affordable and the former Blue Fun bartender is always helpful.

Ok...the restuarant is weak in desserts, but that is ok for a favorite neighborhood upscale place. Anyway, given the no res policy and lines to get in, dessert would only slow table turnover - I'll gladly go elsewhere if I want a big dessert that badly.

A group of friends and I went to Landmarc recently. ALthough we had to wait for a table for quite a while, it was eventually worth the wait. The food was excellent, the service was great (real friendly waitress) and the price wasn't bad either. Overall, it ended up being a great night, with a little celebrity siting to boot!!!

My friend and I visited Landmarc for the first time last week and we were very satisfied with our choice. We were a little disapointed by the menu at first, which is very standard but our food was amazing. The wine list is very impressive and CHEAP!!! They have this no mark-up policy which enables you to afford wines that you would'nt be able to in other restaurants. The service is excellent, our waiter was very friendly and professional and we were seated right away, which is a rare thing in NYC.

I've been recommended this restaurant on 2 separate occasions and so I had high hopes but was bitterly disappointed when I finally made a trip myself. The place is first of all TOO CROWDED. The seats are so close together, you can't figure out who you're trying to hold a conversation with, your friend or the couple sitting next to you. The pesto mussels were good but a bit too salty...the goat cheese puffs were just too overpowering...and the waitress recommended Pasta of the Day "Vongole" was GROSS...sorry to be so blunt but it was like the chef had forgotten to put any sort of flavor to it we shamelessly poured the cream sauce from my monkfish dish on it. The monkfish was great...the sauce was again, a bit salty but worked well with the NO FLAVOR VONGOLE...it was disappointing overall.

Landmarc has become one of my favorite habits. The bartenders and servers are brilliant, they know food, wine and their menu! The bartender remembers your favorites and makes solid recommendations and with this wine list there is no fear of being gouged. Please, please let a plentiful 1/2 bttl. menu become a NY institution. Service has always been stellar, Kathy is my favorite. I nearly always get the mussels dijonnaise. Save room for dessert, for real, there's usually something unexpected offered. For this neighborhood, on this island, this is practically "bang for your buck" list-worthy.

I went there with a few friends and it was a solid dining experience, but nothing too memorable. The starters, wine list and desert were gerat. The entrees were fine, but nothing too special. Great service. Make sure to be seated on the second level rather than the street floor.

Restuarants like this reminds me how truly fortunate I am to live in New York City. it just doesn't get any better then this. The menue has a wide selection of food so there is something for everyone's taste. I had the mussels which were plump and fresh and in an amazing sauce. I also loved the fact that they do not over price their wine. Lastly, the desserts are out of this world and they are also very unique. The waiter surprised us with the most delicious cotton candy I ever had, along with mini cones in cute little stands with home made sorbets and ice cream. It made me feel like a little kid again. This was such an amazing dinning experience that I can't wait to go back.

Absolutely fabulous dining experience. Top notch wine list that is reasonably priced. the food is superb. from the mussel appetizer to the steak entree then to the dessert sampler. my friends and I had a great time and everyone was complimenting the dishes but nothing else. Not only is a great date place, it is also good for bigger groups. (of course, not the family style)

This place is fabulous. From the service, to the decor, to the food. The wine list is UNBELIEVABLE. Our waiter told us prices here are practically cheaper than in the liquor store - we paid $49 for a bottle that I've seen on other lists for $75 ... for real.

We had mussels with pesto (fab!), shrimp salad (!!!), filet mignon (!!!!!!) - all wonderful. Service was friendly, professional and prompt. The place is relatively new so I can understand earlier posts, but it's finally gotten into its groove. Great view of the Empire State building on second floor at our table. Slick fireplace down below. Super chic without being pretentious. Now that's MY kinda place.

Thank you Landmarc!

I read the previous review and I am surprised. I have only been once but the wine list at cost is fantastic and so was the cheese plate. I love the ambiance and my server was excellent. I recommend the food. There are some great tables upstairs. We had a great time and were treated with respect and received high service. I also believe the owners are local to Tribeca (learned through a conversation w/ the hostess) so I would be remiss to call it a tourist spot and would recommend to everyone to at least try it out...

Just like its predecessor "the independant"
landmarc has good intentions and trys hard - and falls short. Food is consistantly inconsistant, mostly palatable if uninspiring. From the food to the decor to the staffing, they have endevored to be non-descript The bad news is they have suceeded all to well. My suggesstion? Don't make any reservations to far into the future.

Fantastic food and great space! Service was slow however and we saw our waiter only twice during the course of the entire meal. If management can impress upon the waitstaff the goal of having consistent high quality service, then this place will really shine!

A great addition to Tribeca, and as a local resident, I intend to visit Landmarc often. The food was very good, and the diverse menu adds a sense of fun to the dining experience. I have not tried the steaks yet, but everything else was good (seafood surprisingly so). The real draw is the combination of the ambience and the wine list. Very comfortable/casual atmosphere, and a short, but very well priced wine list (I have seen some wines at double the price in other places). Service was very food, and fitting with the place.

We had been to Landmarc right after they opened, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We returned last week to find that the service has improved and the food remains terrific. The space is warm & inviting, and the management made us feel very welcome. And the menu is strong! It is a great addition to the neighborhood, and the city.
