I LOVE this bookshop. I have spent countless hours here just looking around for that perfect read. They have everything here, from rare, first edition and signed copies to academic course-related books, to popular fiction. They also have maps and old magazine clippings/print ads for sale. I do find the place understaffed sometimes- but I'm so busy looking around I don't mind waiting at the cash. Lots of books at good bargains!

Probably Ithaca's best know used book store. Not the largest selction by any means, but big enough to be worth a browse. That is, if you live here. In other words, if you're local, they're fine -- if you're not, and just visiting the area, spend your time elsewhere (even if a bibliophile). Their selction could be bigger (they've got the floor space). They could drop the "owner's views rule" attitude. On the upside: 1) they do have some upscale books worth a look (firsts and the like), 2), they've got a small cafe, and 3) they're clean (you won't come away smelling like dust and in need of a shower -- a step above the common used book store). One final plus -- they deserve a big pat on the back for helping keep The Commons alive as a shopping area (in the face of the local "bix box" attack).

PROS: Clean, helps fill-out The Commons, has a cafe.
CONS: Medicore selection and too much owner attitude throughout.

Great selection of used books, at a reasonable price. Often a few racks of bargain books outside.

Well-organized into subject and by author.

Not too many places to sit and browse.
