Ben Benson's is New York's Great West Side Steak House. Opened in 1982, it is one of the top 100 independent restaurants in America. Manhattanites and visitors rub elbows with celebrities, politicians, sports stars and business executives, over huge juicy steaks, three-to-seven pound lobsters and fantastic Benson crispy hashed browns. In addition to great steaks and seafood, Ben Benson's offers outdoor seating in warmer weather. Whether for business dining or family dining, Ben Benson's is a perfect spot for celebrating special occasions ranging from corporate luncheons to private parties in our spacious upstairs dining room. Editorial by

The Scene
A happy-hour Pamplona. When the quittin' bell rings along 6th Avenue, junior execs spill out of glass towers and herd to the bar of this raucous and masculine steakhouse. The assorted dining rooms have an urban hunting-lodge motif, adorned with mounted bronzed buffaloes, lions, bears and the like. Around 8pm, there is such a din that you'll need a megaphone to converse.

The Food
Huge steaks, well aged and cooked to a turn, rival those of the city's more famous meateries. The T-bone is exceptionally tender and flavorful, as are the broiled veal chop, plump lamb chops and roast prime ribs. The star of the menu, though, is the magnificent crab cake, a thick, loosely bound puck of sweet lump crab with very little breading, all charred and wonderfully salt-flecked on the outside--it's costly, but worth every nickel. The standard steakhouse desserts are fine.

The good reviews must be from their friends. There was nothing I liked about Ben Benson's. Go to SPARKS.

Cons: rude service

Ratings_icons what a steak

Ben Benson's serves up amazing food and they do it quickly. I rolled out of there after one dinner. The crab cakes are probably some of the best I've ever consumed. Their steak was cooked to perfection as were all the trimmings. A perfect pre-theatre restaurant. Highly reccomended!

Ratings_icons Perfect pre theater feast

This was the perfect pre-theater feast, unless you care to be awake for the performance. My sleepiness was well worth the trade off with this fine meal. Salad was fresh, steaks were huge, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Dessert was fabuluous. Next time you crave a steak, this is the only place to go.

Ratings_icons no privacy

idilsuzgun

As good as the food may be the atmosphere is "nonchalant". Alot of tables and eating elbow to elbow with the next table is not exactly ideal for a romantic night. This also slows the service. An ideal place for a night of brilliant food but dare I say again... no privacy...

Pros: good food

Cons: too many tables

Ratings_icons The Best!

I go there several times a year, and it's always a great experience. The waitstaff is friendly, courteous, and not stuck-up. The food always comes as you request it and you're allowed the time to enjoy it and relax.

Pros: Food, waitstaff

Cons: noise!
