It`s amazing how good they are at what they do! i had serious problems with my air conditioning unit and I called different company every time, because after the performed repairs something went wrong again and I found New York City Air Conditioning`s phone number and called them, they came and fixed it and from then on everything works fine!

On July 31st, 2011 our air conditioner stopped. We called NY NJ A/C Connections to diagnose the problem. They found a bad coil and had no freon and of course under Murphy's Law it was on a weekend with no parts available.
My wife and I are both handicapped and facing the weekend with no air conditioner in July is a stressful thought. We did not complain or ask for any special favors. The grace of god stepped in because NY NJ A/C Connections is owned by great people. The owner and in 56 years dealing with repair heating and air companies I have never seen a company do what they did. Over and above, they returned the next day early August 1st and installed a window unit so my wife and I could be reasonably comfortable at no extra cost. We did not request it!
Again it is great to know we have good people running companies to service us. This is why they have a good company and are very successful.

We've been bringing our dog and two cats here for a number of years after following our vet when she moved from downtown and it is definitely worth the trip every time. Dr. Berg's focus on preventive care is what keeps us with her. She has kept our geriatric large dog pain free and healthy. Good vet care is never cheap but we've always received an estimate so there are no surprises and a nurse/doctor always follows up, even after routine vaccines. When our kitty was spayed and stayed overnight, Dr. Berg personally kept us informed of her condition throughout her stay and we were comforted to know that a nurse was there to care for her overnight. We've also seen Dr. Wilson who is super knowledgeable about cats and Dr. Howell who is a true gem. We learned recently that they donate space for wildlife rehabilitators to treat injured animals when we saw park rangers bring in an injured duck and man with a pigeon who'd been attacked by a hawk!

This clinic is good. I am sorry for the previous reviewer regarding the anesthesia death of her cat but that happens very rarely with healthy animals that have not been given food or water for 12 hours prior. I have a lot of experience with large and small animal vets and these guys are reasonable (for a big city vet), and knowledgeable. They deal with a lot of crazy New York people with crazy animals but they are still compassionate to both. My experiences there have all been good.

Dr.Jennifer Berg told me that I needed to put my dog through all sorts of very expensive diagnostic procedures for my dog. Thousands of dollars and many many months later, I found out from other people in the profession that the amount and frequency of the procedures was totally not necessary. In fact , they could have been damaging to the health of my pet. I was seeing her on a weekly basis for months and months when she would do some kind of test on my dog.
When I also found out that she had been working on commission everything started to make sense What this meant is that for every medical examination/procedure she was making a portion of the cost .
I do not think that unethical people like this should be allowed to practice any kind of medicine. She prayed upon my love for my dog and my fear of losing him to his illnesses.
I hope that if any one else has had similar experience with this vet that you will also speak out.

we brought him in for what we thought was a routine procedure of teeth cleaning and two hours later, after we trusted them with his care, he was dead. carson was a healthy cat who was brought to his death due to the incompetent care he received in animal general's hands. he was either given too much anesthesia or should not have been anesthesized in the first place. we received no warning prior to taking him for a cleaning that there was any danger to him. now we find out that, indeed, small animals should not be anesthesized unless absolutely necessary. they did this to line their pockets and now our little boy is gone. don't go here and don't listen to vets who try to ply you with paying big bucks for unnecessary procedures that can lead to death in the wrong hands. we will never get our special boy back but we learned a valuable lesson the hard way from these incompetent, money hungry hacks!

I have been a client of Animal General since 1991. Dr Paul Howell and the rest of the staff have helped me care for all my pets. They have done everything form vaccines to spay/neuter, from dental cleanings to getting a foreign object out of my Scotty's belly...

Animal General is my partner in caring for my pets.

A few years ago I left NYC and moved to NJ...I tried a couple of vets in NJ but quickly returned to Animal General. The quality of care and service cannot be surpassed.

I had to go to Animal General on a few occasions when I was new to the neighborhood and didn't know of other options. The first time by dog cut her foot on glass, 4 stitches, $800. Expensive, but doggie was bleeding so what are you going to do? Another time my doggie showed signs of discomfort - they worked her up to the tune of $1600 and told me she would likely need back surgery. Channeling my litigator tendencies, I asked the vet how she arrived at that diagnosis and got conflicting answers that were inconsistent. She stammered some answers and said she had another call she had to take and would call me back. Never did.

I got 2 other opinions, neither of whom recommended surgery and 3 years later she's completely fine. I absolutely do not mind spending money on my dogs, I absolutely do mind getting ripped off with bad diagnoses.

Pros: Thorough

Cons: Wrong diagnosis, very expensive

Unless you are a millionaire, you should avoid this place like the plague. Yes, vets are expensive, especially in New York. But Animal General runs their business as if they were dealing with cars or appliances, not living beings. You shouldn't have to get substandard care or put an animal to sleep just because you don't have tons of money at your disposal. If Animal General was as caring as they profess to be, they would work more with clients who have money issues. It would be possible to do this to some degree and still run a profitable business. They are just greedy. The advice they give you varies based on your ability to pay - their outrageous prices. (If you aren??t rich they advise putting your dog to sleep; if you are rich they are suddenly miracle workers.) I'm not talking about the average visit and minor problems. That's expensive too, but manageable for most people (or you probably shouldn't have a pet.) But for anything more serious - you'd better sell a kidney. Their services are all a la carte, and that adds up. They even charge $25 for one of those cheap plastic collars that you put on a dog/cat to keep them from licking their wound! That's outrageous. The owner and one of the vets are very nice, but the rest of the vets don??t act like they like animals very much at all, and their bedside manner is HORRIBLE! They have very little sensitivity, which is shocking considering who they are dealing with. The other staff (techs, assistants) do their job but shuffle the animals around like they were suitcases. And the front desk are awful. With the exception of one very nice and caring receptionist, the rest are rude, insensitive and act like they are bored. For all the expense, I don??t even think standard of care is so great. They don??t even have a full-time surgeon on staff. She comes in once a week and is a total b_. Don??t be fooled by appearances. The reality is that all things considered, Animal General primarily is a business, and running it as profitably as possible is their FIRST priority. When you are dealing with pets who you love like your children, you want someone who is motivated first and foremost by a love of animals, not money. Go to Bide-A-Wee - the care is excellent and much less expensive. The vets there really love animals.

I asked a friend for a recommendation for the best Animal Hospital around and she said Animal General in NY. I called 9:00 am April 10, 2008 and asked if there was a possibility of seeing a doctor for my Maltese some time that day; the reply was "how quickly can you get here?" Well, coming from Central New Jersey not before 11:00 am; the reply was "NO PROBLEM, We Will Be Waiting For You". When I arrived I couldn't believe the warm reception we received as they promptly processed the paperwork and took my dog Muffin in immediately. X-rays, an overnight stay, fluids and stabilization were in order. I can't say enough about the care and compassion I received and how comfortable I was about leaving my 4 lb.15 oz. Maltese, Muffin. I called Animal General often to find out the status of Muffin. Each and every time I called, even at 2:00 am no matter who answered the phone everyone was so cordial and concerned about my Muffin. I felt as though she was the only animal there even though I knew she was not. Muffin and I were treated with such loving care! I can't say enough about the Dr.'s and Staff. Especially K-2 & K-1. Thank you Karen and Animal General for caring and giving so much, as well as bringing in the Orthopedic Specialist on a moments notice. To date, Muffin is just fine.

Pros: Extremely caring, professionals giving their all and then some. I would recommend them to anyone. If need be, I will go back with Muffin in a heartbeat.

Cons: None

I am a long time client. These people are amazing. They are thorough, and always kind to you and your animal. They checked every possibility but didn't run anything extra or push for extra procedures or tests simply to pad the bill. I always felt their greatest concern was for my pet not their pocket book, but I never felt like there were options that had not been considered or explored.

I have adopted two kittens from Animal General and have had two cats treated there. One cat was taken to Animal General to be spayed. The other cat was taken for consultation after a very serious accident. The quality of the care and attention was unparalleled. By the way, both cats are healthy and my beloved yellow tabby is as good as new after his accident. They are outstanding! Not only do they provide excellent veterinary care, they provide loving and compassionate care to both the animals and their human companions. Highly recommended.

A year ago I was fortunate enough to adopt two beautiful kittens who were rescued from the streets of Harlem from this wonderful Veterinary hospital. Since then my girls have received the best care! The staff is so warm and friendly and the most dedicated to their clients I have ever seen. Being a first time cat owner it has been wonderful. At Animal General they never hesitate to help from the smallest issue like clipping my kittens nails to the more serious of health concerns. I only wish my own doctor was as attentive and caring as they are at Animal General.

My first experience with this vet was when my dog was struck by a cab right in front of their clinic. Luckily a tech happened to be outside as this was happening and even made an attempt to save him from the collision. Although Igby did not make it, I knew that they went above and beyond for us, even when it came to the financial issues. After that trauma I decided to start working at an animal clinic in my area and did so for years.Although the staff was amazing, I don't believe that they had the right idea as far as emergency/ client treatment went. Soon after I was adopted by a pregnant stray. She had seven healthy kittens two weeks ago.I was told by my vet that I should wait until the kittens were of a certain age and then get the whole crew tested and dewormed, which I planned on doing in another week or so.This morning the mother cat began throwing up a little pink and became slightly lethargic.Having worked mostly on the financial end of things at my old job I really wasn't sure how urgent this was so I decided to wait for a bit. She was eating normally but this evening was the same as earlier..pink fluid. I called the 24 hour ER clinic that I was most familiar with in Brooklyn and asked if she could re-lay my concerns to a tech or a vet. She basically blew me off and told me that I should come in, "right away," and that this was a,"serious emergency." I know what they charge over there and decided to get a second opinion.Naturally, I thought of Animal General. When I called, the receptionist informed me that they would page a Doctor and have them call me back within 15 minutes
Not 2 minutes later a very patient and kind Dr. Zawie returned my call and put me at ease. After working with my past clinic,I remember how difficult it was for our clients just to get a Doctor on the phone, let alone call you back so quickly.
I was truly amazed.

10+ stars to this awesome practice!

I became aware of Animal General while doing social work research. This is a veterinary practice that cares about people and animals, not the bottom line. Sure, AG has high prices, but is your pet's healthcare really where you want to haggle over price? The medical care is top notch. They work with a non-profit and donate all services to take of the city's wild birds. They help victims of domestic violence. The people behind this practice have hearts of gold. I now take my cats there and get honest, personal care. Best vet in NYC!

Pros: Community services, outstanding, thorough care, 24-hour nursing, open on Saturdays and Sundays

Cons: High prices, but worth the cost

I couldn't disagree more to the negative comment made below. I recently got a kitten and have been taking her to the UWS Animal General. I think our veterinarian is great--he listens to and answers my questions efficiently and is very friendly. I recently experienced my kitten getting into the fireplace--we have a guard up to prevent her getting in, but somehow she squeezed her way through a small space. She had gotten soot on her, and I called AG at around 9pm to get advice about cleaning her. Not only did I speak with someone within a couple of minutes, but I also received a phone call the following morning to ensure that all was well. So far, my kitty and I are very happy and she's definitely getting the attention she needs from a caring veterinarian.

This animal hospital has all others beat!!!! My pets love it. The staff has been there forever and is outstanding. Try it. Your pet will like it. They take care of pigeons too.

The rudest staff I've ever came across in all my years in New York! I can't believe they are still open. YOu get roped in by going there and them having all your pets medical info. so you can't leave I guess. Average vet. service mixed with HORRIBLE,unthoughtful, and UNCARING staff. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone.

These vets are pretty expensive, but since ALL vets are pretty expensive, you might as well take your pet to a really great vet-- and I think that the vets at Animal General are really great. They always remember you and your pet and take your pet's health as seriously as a doctor would take yours. They also have a bird rescue program where if you take a sick wild bird in to them, they will help it for free (they even take pigeons).
