I've been coming here since I was a kid. As a younger boy we'd come here during Easter sunday. As a teenager when I came of age this was the place I used to come to meet girls. We would go "fishing" here. It's pretty funny when I think

Its not worth a trip from Midtown, but if youre already Downtown to see Wall Street or the World Trade Center, walk the extra blocks and enjoy what you see: some cool old ships, a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge and a well preserved

I had the pleasure of taking a cruise on the vintage tugboat WO Decker. What a great experience. Those of you interested in the history of New York Harbor back in the day when dozens of ships entered the port each day will love the chance to see this ship close up. Those of you just looking for a quiet, pleasant cruise out in the harbor, away from the overpacked tourist ships need to check the Decker out as well.

this place is great to go to for back to school shopping. It's an outdoor mall and they specialize in all sorts of thing such as clothing, dinning, and relaxing. This place has a great view of the city and you should visit them!

THIS IS JUST AN OVER-COMMERCIALIZED TOURIST TRAP. NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY ABOUT THESE ATYPICAL POSTCARD, T-SHIRT, NYC SOUVENEIR[THAT ARE STAMPED: MADE IN CHINA] SHOPS. THE BOATS WERE SAVED FROM THE SCRAPPER; NICE TO TAKE A LOOK AT.

This was a "must see" according to a friend, but I found it to be just another mall. The stores weren't anything different from what we have in Oregon and the food was nothing special. That's not to say that all the stores were nationwide and that was nice to see and I would recommend going to South Seaport, but not specifically for the food and shopping. The view was great as well.

Regardless of the temperatues, this is a great location to visit - but when the temps rise this is the place to be. Not only can you enjoy the shops which contain Gap, J Crew, Abercrombie and more there are plenty of places to eat. In addition, you can see what it looked like in the 1800's with views of old ships, Brooklyn Bridge and much more. This is a must visit.

PROS: Shops, museams and more
CONS: No downside - sometimes smells a little fishy

The lounge chairs on the deck is a relaxing place for you to read the paper, fall asleep. Sometimes it is very crowded, you might only be able to get only one chair. It is a good excuse to sit on the lap of your honey. It overlooks the water. It is actually quite beautiful, (if you don't mind the occasional piece of garbage floating in the Hudson River). No but seriously, it is reaaaaally a nice view on a nice summer or spring day.

Lots of shops...like a big mall. I like the cobblestone area across the street the best. Crowded. Very commercialized. Good place to find lots of stores, but a long walk from the subway - only good if you want to spend a few hours there, not quick shopping trips.

Sitting on the waterside, sipping a cocktail & watching the boats pass by, or the Brooklyn Bridge rossing the Hudson or the Verazano in the distanace. Lovely sunsets that you can almost touch. A very romantic spot.

First couple of visits to South St, Seaport were fun and exciting, checking out the little shops(EXPENSIVE) and restaurants and stores in the small mall. After about the 3rd or whatever time going, it was really same old same old, expensive, nothing REALLY remarkable , about it , EXCEPT the views of the East River, and the Brooklyn Bridge, always outstanding. One July summer, early evening we managed to catch an outdoor band complete with horns, that was exceptional! The sun was over by the East River, the sky was deep blue, it was 80 degrees and dry(for once) and just a lovely way to enjoy an early evening in a MOST fabulous city. So, wonderful if your lucky enough to stumble upon an outdoor venue like that, otherwise, smells sometimes, and very touristy, and expensive. Sometimes you will catch street performers on the Brick section, near the outdoor restaurants.

Pros: open, airy, outdoors

Cons: expensive, crowded, can be smelly

.

great view of brooklyn and the river; but if you don't like crowds- then this may not be your thing.

it's a different view of new york, and it's nice for visitors or if you just want a drink and enjoy the view; it's okay to try once.

otherwise you may be better off going to boat basin for a nice view and cheap drink.

A romantic inexpensive date! Can be a little smelly @ times, but if you go to the upstair level of the mall and sip a pina colada on the lawn style chairs that face the East river... that's pricesless! The scenary around you is unbelievable! I love NY!

It is always packed with tourists -- and the shops/restaurants aren't all that great. But the views of the river and bridges and passing traffic are incredible. It's a good spot to sit down and relax for a while after entertaining folks from out of town. They also have a bunch of free, semi-big name concerts here in the summer.

Pros: Great views

With its open space and lovely view, South Street Seaport has the potential to host fantastic summer events. The Carl Cox all-nighter earlier this year was a promising sign. Maybe now that the tourist traffic has ebbed, SSS will update its program to bring in a local crowd.
