Last week I decided to live on the edge and go to a new salon for a haircut. Not an easy decision for me as I have very curly hair and have gone to the same stylist for 15 + years BUT I wanted something different. I read up on the Ouidad

Be prepared to have a few people work on your hair. Ask for a simple color job and you get ""your stylist"" working on you, plus a co-worker, plus a ""junior"" stylist in training who may or may not have completed beauty school. And to warn you, the prices on the internet are not what they charge you when you actually go there. They will charge you hundreds more for color compared to what the internet lists. I have never been to a place like this in my life and I used to get my hair styled in LA. It's either the stylists doing whatever she wants or the salon itself ripping you off. A very unsatisfactory salon, and I would go so far as to call them thieves, especially to the younger crowd whom they feel they can take advantage of. Going to the front desk to pay- forget about it- they will keep chatting with one another then after maybe 5-7 minutes they'll acknowledge you and tell you how outrageous your total is. If you question what services you're paying for they will simply say ""have you been here before"" then argue with you over your total. Ugh, terrible salon overall. Avoid a headache

Be prepared to pay way too much for services if you go to this salon. The prices listed on the internet are a far reach from what the real prices are when you walk into the salon and I'm not sure if my stylist was at fault or the website but I ended up paying hundreds more than I should have for a simple color service. My stylist talked me into a very expensive color service without mentioning the price, she sort of just did her own thing. Furthermore some of the girls at the front desk are extremely rude. I was standing at the front desk waiting to pay and leave and the two front desk girls were chatting while I waited there for at least 5 minutes. Also they have two people doing your hair: a stylist and a stylist-in-training. Terrible experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Where to begin....My BFF and I have been to what feels like every salon in the area... ""SERIOUSLY""....we just couldnt find the right feel.....We walked into ANIAS on impulse on a saturday.....WOW....best decision ever!!!! Love the VIBE! Perfect mix of asthetic, personality, and atmosphere! They are definitely on the ""cutting edge""! We actually enjoyed being at the salon!!! Color and highlights with Patrizia and Kristina ""D"" no brainer.... Then nails with Danielle and Bridgett to finish off!!! We even got checked out by ""ANIA"", herself who was soooo friendly, genuine and ""DOWN TO EARTH""!!! Cant wait for the next GIRLS day!!!

Today, I had my hair cut and colored by a talented stylist, Cassie, at Ania Hair Studio & Spa of Albany. The entire experience was a treat. After some discussion and viewing of samples, Cassie suggested a color to compliment my complexion. Afterward, I described the cut I wished to have. Over the past year, I let my hair grow out. At Ania Hair Studio, I was hoping to get an updated flattering style appropriate for a woman in her 50's.

Cassie worked miracles on my overly thick and dull hair. After the chocolate-brown color was meticulously applied, Cassie snipped and shaped my wavy locks. The result made me cry for joy. I looked and felt ten years younger. I now have an updated sophisticated style that frames my face and is age-appropriate. Thank you Cassie for making me look younger and making me feel so special. I am eager to return.

I love this place. I've had my hair highlighted and cut/styled twice and both times absolutely loved it. Showed me how to do a style that worked for me, since I don't like to do a lot with my hair. Took the time to make sure everything was to my liking. Have even recommended them to friends and family. Will definitely go back!\r\n

I have been complaining about my dry frizzy hair forever. My son gave me a gift card to Ania's to try the Oiudad line of products. My stylist, Debi, took her time and did a wonderful job treating, styling and explaining the process to me. It has been a long time since I felt good about my hair. If you have curly hair you need the right products. But without the knowledge on how to use the products and a good cut you will just be throwing money out the window. I highly recommend taking the time and learn from Debi . She is certified in Ouidad products and knows her craft ! Thank you Debi for a great hair day and I know many more will follow.

I went to Ania Hair Studio & Spa on Aug 21, 2010 to have my makeup done for a friend's wedding. The makeup girl did not spray the lipstick or lipgloss she used on me with alcohol prior to application, but I assumed it didn't matter since she used an applicator. I have never had a blister or herpes before in my life. I didn't share drinks or kiss anyone other than my herpes free husband that weekend. I was concerned when my upper lip started to hurt Monday morning at work. I went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror and was shocked to see three tiny blisters on my top lip. Gestation period for herpes is 2-12 days. If you have gotten herpes within this time span after going to Ania, I suggest putting a tip into the Better Business Bureau. Shame on Ania for giving me herpes! Ania Hair Studio & Spa: Makeup for a day, HERPES for a lifetime.

I must tell all you ladies out there. I had the best facial of my life with Dawn at Ania's. There have been many facials, but never one such as this one. Felt like a new woman. Dawn is the consummate professional,\r\nand marvelous at what she does. I wll be going back ASAP. \r\nThe total experience was extremely relaxing and the\r\nresults were beyond my expectations\r\n5 STARS .\r\n\r\n.

I've been going to Ania's Salon for years and overall I have nothing bad to say about the place... but I'm a realist. Of course by that I just mean I don't have unrealistic expectations. Have there been mix-ups with appointments, yeah, but things happen. As much as we all wish to have the perfect experience when we go somewhere, it can possibly be consistently perfect. Its a noble idea but its not reality.\r\nIve read some of the negative reviews here and I must say I feel strongly enough to write my own, though its not something I usually do. \r\n \r\nI must say,as an adult I understand how a business works, especially one that deals with the public and one that has many different personalities catering to that public. People aren't machines, and they cant make miracles happen. In response to the woman who had a picture that didn't match her hairs final outcome. Forgive my ignorance but being a hairdresser myself who CHOSSES to go to Ania's for their hair care...some times its hard to understand that your hair just wont look like a person in print. Sometimes hairdressers can do it, but sometimes no matter how hard we try and no matter how good the communication is, its just not gonna happen! As I said its not an infallible science, its hair dressing. No ones perfect.\r\nThat said, while I do feel bad her hair didn't turn out as she wished, I have met most all the stylists at Ania's over the years and I don't think anyone I have been to would ignore a paying clients wishes. They all seem quite eager to please, and maybe that's just my impression but I feel I am pretty picky. \r\n\r\nAs for the wedding reviewer...that is a shame, no bride should have to cry on her wedding day. I feel for her. I do have to ask ...she cried because she was reprimanded because she was late??? Really? Wedding days are indeed hectic, but if you were late..YOU were late. That's not cool either! Those people who took care of your hair on your wedding day ARE people, just like you. Again they're not machines. If you're late you put them in a very difficult predicament. Think about it.... They have a schedule, (that's why you booked an appointment rather than just show up). You must understand that girl had to no only make you happy but had to complete a style that would be up to par...but in LESS time than was allotted. You made her do that under pressure of pissing off all the rest of her clients who came after you. That wouldn't put me in a rosy mood, Id hate that. I know your wedding day should be amazing and I wish it was for you...but you have to know that arriving on time is a good way of assuring the day goes as planned. I don't know any hairdresser who could perform in that situation up to par, I'm sorry.\r\n\r\nI don't know everything, certainly I don't claim to, but I do know many of the girls at Ania's as well as Ania herself. And I assure you, they try to do right, it may not always turn out that way but as I said before that's life. Consider the reality before you try to damage someone's lively hood with a pointingly bad review. Talk to Ania if you have an issue, she's sweet as hell.\r\nAll of this may be just my opinion, but believe in it. So if you're on the fence about this salon, don't let those negative opinions stop you from. I like it there, and I'm pretty picky!\r\n

I went there last week to get waxed for the first time. I got full legs and underarms. Jessica was lovely. She is very professional, even when I am so nervous to have someone else see me so hairy! It took about an hour and a half, and it was very relaxing. She is so easy to talk to, that you don't even notice what is going on. She has 7 years of experience in waxing, and it showed! I'm going back next week for a Brazilian with her. It feels so nice to pamper myself and be smooth for weeks! Everyone there was so polite. Can't wait to go back!

Cons: none that I can think of

The salon was NOT clean, nor very professional. Not only was I not impressed by the atmosphere but the service was poor as well. The female that highlighted my hair was far from being professional. \r\nShe didn't listen what i want just did whatever she felt like. On the end wow instead $85 i paid $160!!!!!!!!!!! FOR WHAT????????

I went to this hair studio and before I sat down showed the stylist a picture of how my hair used to be. They said no problem and assured me that they could do it. During the entire 2 hours they were working on my hair I continued to ask if it was going to be colored and cut they way I asked and again they assured me it would be. When they were done the color of my was not even close to what I asked. I asked for it to be straight and they styled it in waves. Then when I got to the counter to pay the priced was $100 dollars more than quoted on their website. I used to get my hair done in NYC and it was never that expensive and it was actually done the way I wanted. Waste of money and a waste of time. If you have your own opinion on how you want your hair to look, dont go there.

I've been there twice; once to get my hair cut and then to get my hair highlighted. The girl who cut my hair was very nice--did the style i wanted, etc. I asked her to take as much needed off to get the dead ends off--I looked at my hair a couple days later and there was clearly split ends; my hair is not particularly damaged either. When I got my hair highlighted one of the stylists plopped me in a chair-- didn't really speak to me, did my highlights in about 15 min and left me sitting there to work on other clients without explaining to me what she was doing..her service was HORRIBLE. Nice salon but 100% NOT worth the extraordinary prices they charge.

I LOVE THIS SALON! most of the girls are very friendly and i will be going back. I had the Ouidad done there and i have never in my life found someone who knew how to cut my hair like this girl did. I think her name was Kristine, she had the same hair as i did so i felt at ease right away! She knew what she was talking about when i told her my problems, also her product knowledge was amazing!. She was right on key! I WILL TELL ALL MY CURLY FRIENDS!

My daughter in law made appointments for herself, the entire bridal party and the moms. We were their for over 4 hours, they said we had appointments but it was VERY unorganized. The Hair was ok but everyone was very unhappy with their make-up but the most UPSETTING was one of the employees made the BRIDE cry on her wedding day (If you can even believe that) yes she make her cry!!!!!!!!!!!! Her reason was she came late----so you yell at a bride on her wedding day to the point of making her cry??? We were so disappointed with our experience at Ania's that it will NEVER be recommended by any of us. Very unprofessional!

This was a terrible place for a cut and color primarily because of service and cost, however, the quality is also not so great. I went to Ania a couple of years ago and was there nearly four hours for a cut and color. The stylist, I think her name was Rachel, had other clients she was taking care of at the same time and it was just so unbeliveably unprofessional. I would sit waiting for nearly an hour before I would see her again. When I went to check out I couldnt' believe that it was nearly $300. Needless to say I did not leave a tip and have not returned. A different time when I had gone for waxing, the girl had to keep apologizing because it was one of her first times waxing.....don't go here!

The employees were friendly, but not in your face. My stylist did an AMAZING job, fixing ALL of my hair concerns. Personally, for the service and quality I got, $37 was not too bad. I'm already saving up some money to go get some highlights done (as at Ania's, just like most places, color jobs ARE expensive) I especially loved that after my hair was washed/cond. it was cut, blown out, AND then she went back and cut my hair while it was dry to ensure everything flowed well and looked great : )

Ania's is a great place to go. I'm always happy with my results, and love the time I spend there. The staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere is one of a kind. It never feels stuffy or snooty in there. It feels more like the ""Cheers"" of Salons, as they make an effort to remember their clients. If you are looking for a place that will make you feel welcome and give you GREAT hair results, then this is it! Some of the other reviews complaining about their price seem out of touch--you pay for what you get, and they are not some hole-in-the-mall salon. Definately worth the visit and money!

I recently went to Ania's and was a model for one of her open houses. It was a great experience. \r\nEveryone is so plesent there. I met Ania herself. She is a very kind and loving person. I really had a lot of fun. The open house was great. They also gave me some samples for my hair from Warren Tricomi. I was blown away by what a positive atmosphere it was. I left there feeling so great about myself. The service was top of the line. My hair is beautiful and healthy and I can thank Ania Hair Studio and Spa for that!

Pros: Great service. They don't rush you out. They spend a lot of time with you and get everything exactly how you want it.

Cons: ..No cons.

I unfortunately walked into this place for the first time not knowing their prices. After a chop-job that took 10 minutes and left my hair mangled and cut way shorter than I told her to cut it, I was told it would cost me $32! I've gotten much better haircuts for $8. I guess they charge a lot to try and seem like a real hip salon, but the quality of the actual cuts doesn't reflect this at all. Stay away.

I get my hair cut & colored and I also get my hair straightened twice a year. My hair always looks great. They do the best job. All of the girls are so friendly. I've been to all the nice salons around and Ania Hair Studio the best.

It all started when I first called the salon for an appointment and the lady was very rude! She had a thick accent and I couldn't understand her. I was put on hold twice ! I wanted to make an appointment with my stylist Kerri which I have been going to for a year and a half. I show up for my appointment which was at 2pm and someone finally got to me at 2:20! The lady said Hi, I'm Kerri and I will be coloring your hair today. It was not the kerri I usually go to. The stylist said that she no longer works here and I will be doing your hair from now on! Which was rude! I had no other choice because I was going away so I let her color my hair. 1st my hair did not come out close how I wanted it! I paid way tomuch for something I could have got done at a beauty school and I am completly fustrated!!! I highly do not reccommened this salon!

I just moved to the Albany area and went to some random place for a haircut -- BIG mistake. I had a girl named Candy who butchered my hair. I checked the internet the next day in an attempt to find a reputable place and came across Ania. I called and got an appt. for later that afternoon. The interior is modern, spacious and clean, and the girls at the desk are very friendly and professional. I explained to my stylist what had happened to my hair, she understood completely, and fixed it -- not just fixed it, but gave me possibly the best haircut I've ever had. I'm a guy and it was $30 for my haircut (took about 35 minutes), but will be $35 in the future since I will be requesting a specific stylist. Easily worth it. I don't think I'll ever go anywhere else... very highly recommended.

Ania is top-notch. The atmosphere is wonderful. The stylists are very experienced and do an outstanding job. When you go to Ania you can pretty much be guaranteed that you will be looking pretty fantastic when you leave....but if you don't have money to burn, or if it wasn't a gift than I would say you can find a comparable stylist for less than 1/2 the price!! I knew Ania was expensive, but I also knew that they did a great job. One day, I woke up desperate to get my hair done- colored, highlighted and cut. I called a few places but of course couldn't get in on such short notice. I tried Ania and they actually had an appt so I jumped on it. I didn't price it first because I knew it was going to be a lot and I foolishly didn't want to "have" to cancel. So, I went in blindly. Well, my hair was gorgeous! It was cut right, and the perfect combination of color and highlight. I went to the desk to pay and it was $200!! How naive I was...I did not think it could cost so much. I usually get the same service done for $80-$100...Well, lesson learned. So, they do a fantastic job but the price was too high for me to return

PROS: great stylists and atmosphere
CONS: very pricey

This place is excellent. I always make an appointment when I am in town for the weekend. The stylists are very professional and do a great job. I like the modern decor and the relaxing atmosphere that this spa creates. The receptionists are very nice and all of the staff makes sure that you enjoy your visit. The only negative is that appointments tend to book up fast . It is moderately priced but it is definitely worth it.
