So, long time fan of Mexican Radio. Came in this Saturday. Food was fresh and great as usual. Drinks were ok, when we could get them. Seems like the staff was more interested in doing shots with eachother than paying attention to their customers. Also, present odor in restaurant is unbearable. Asked staff about stench. They said there was a flood a month ago and owners haven't fixed it yet. Why?? Will not return.

I went in a while ago to Mexican Radio and had dinner and margs with my friend at the bar. We can be picky margarita drinkers, and the bartender completely accommodated our picky needs. I was just going to bookmark this page, but when I saw some negative reviews, I decided to give a good one to help boost it's ratings!
The food was really good, and I'm no longer a vegetarian, but I get cravings for seitan here and there, and there's didn't disappoint!
No, it's not the fastest service ever, but we still had good & friendly service, so just don't go if you're in a big rush. Who wants to rush through a meal anyways?
I'll be back there fo' sho!

This is my favorite mexican restaurant in the city. Dos Equis on tap, great salsa, great enchilladas, and knock your socks off margaritas. Has a secret celebrity following as well. My friend saw Tyra Banks here once.

Mexican Radio's food is fantastic and made fresh daily. I don't know why the reviews from almost a year ago keep popping up but let's talk about the here and now not the OH MY GOODNESS that was so long ago... The music can be updated a little but the Margarita's wonderful waitstaff and food make up for it....
I don't understand why there are so many negatives in such a positive place ... Sit at the bar and enjoy the bar show with the two best tenders during the weekend rush Thurs, Fri or Sat... I enjoy it immensely... It is always like being with an extension of your family...

Pros: Train Station right around the north east corner... Spring St. 6 Uptown side...

Cons: Parking is not the greatest, there is none but there is a parking garage around each corner!

Between the atrociously rude hostess and the lengthy wait, staying for the food wasn't worth it. We were told a 45 minute wait, at an hour and a half of waiting (with empty tables available), we left. The hostess seemed annoyed with our lack of reservations despite the fact that when we called to make one, they refused to accept it for a group fewer than 8 people. I will definitely not be returning.

After reading prior reviews I felt the need to review Mexican Radio myself. My friends and I have been going here for years and never have we been disappointed. We continue to bring new people to the restaurant and like wise no one is disappointed. Like any other restaurants there are going to be some negative points them being: You usually have a wait to be seated even with a reservation. Paying for chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant is ridiculous its almost like having to pay for bread and butter at an Italian restaurant. And finally the guacamole is not much to be desired. The food over all is the best Mexican I have had in the city, I typically eat the chimichanga or Plantain Rellenos both are to die for. The margaritas are made to perfection. Many people have complained that its over priced I more then disagree, review their menu the most expensive thing is shrimp fajitas at $19. Compare this to a chain restaurant like Apple Bees which offers Fajitas for $16 now would you rather the authenticity and fresh tasting food of a true Mexican restaurant? For me ill pay the extra $3 and skip the generic chain food restaurants. This Resutrant is a must try, You be the judge

Unfortunately, bad food and even worse service. I have gone to this establishment four times now, as I love mexican food and live 100 yrds away. People keep telling me to keep trying. Every time I have gone I have been disappointed. The food is always just mediocre. The price extremely high. It is mexican food for christ sake. But the worst part is the service. Management is rarely conscious of what is going on. I just left the establishment, after a 15 minute wait turned into 45. While sitting at the bar, I watched the host sit new arrivals immediately after I had been waited 40 minutes. When I mentioned I was on the waiting list, he said "Oops. Sorry. Didn't know there was a list." To make matters worse, the bartender ignored my party, more interested in re stacking her vodka bottles. I ran out before I had the opportunity to be delivered the wrong meal for the fourth time. Never again. AND I MEAN NEVER!!!!

Pros: The door is easy to find as you exit furious of the wasted time

Cons: service, cost of food, taste of food

I used to go to Mexican Radio at least once a month, usually on the weekends, but often during the week when the place felt much more like a neighborhood haunt- friendly service, comforting high-quality food, strong drinks... not having been in about 6 months i was shocked to see that the place has gone almost completely down the toilet. none of the above qualities seemed to apply on my most recent visit- the service was piss-poor and came mostly from new faces, the place was dirty, and the general warm, good spirit that i had come to know has almost completely vanished. the only thing that remained consistent was the good service and strong drinks from the bar. i could be wrong, but the Mexican Radio that i had come to know and love appears to have been bought by someone who cares far less about quality food, service, and atmosphere than it's previous owners. oh well, i guess another one bites the dust.

My girlfriend and I stopped into Mexican Radio after a day heavy Soho Shopping!
The bar is a great place for girls to hangout and cool down!
The bartenders are SUPER friendly - I had a fresh Watermelon Margarita and my friend had the Pomegranate.... we also shared the Guacamole and Crispy Chicken Tacos - very tasty!

Fun atmosphere, high quality food and drinks. This is the real deal!

Friends of mine kept telling me about this place in Soho called Mexican Radio. Not one to usually go out of my way for typical Mexican food, I put off going until last Friday. We were completely blown away by the whole experience. The margaritas were easily the best I've had, the food came quickly and was every thing I missed about REAL Mexican home cooking. Service was friendly and knew their stuff. The chocolate chimi dessert is big, but definitely a must. The crowd there is definitely relaxed and enjoying themselves, like they've been looking forward to this all day... Sit back and enjoy! I did.

I ate at MR about 5 or 6 years ago. The only thing I remember about my experience was that I never want to return. I don't recall why, just that I never want to return. Well, I went back there with a friend for dinner after she decided she did not feel like seafood at the Lobster Bar. I also had a hankering for some fajitas and MR was the closest place to get fajitas knowing that I knew I didn't like my previous experience. I figured some time has passed, maybe they're not as bad as i remember.

We ordered a pitcher of sangria. There was no fruit swimming in the sangria as it should. The sangria itself was watered down. It wasn't even juiced down. It was watered down. And it cost $22! A rip off!

The food was okay although expensive. I ordered the steak fajitas and it came out sizzling, with lots of tender meat and veggies. But they only gave three soft tortillas shells. Then again, i don't pack my tortillas with the fixings. The guagomole was good. There wasn't enough sour cream. Luckily my friend doesn't like sour cream so I took hers. My friend ordered the tacos. She said her chicken tacos was dry and bland.

Service was okay and not noteworthy. Acoustics was terrible. The restaurant wasn't even full and we could barely hear each other.

Pros: Chips and Salsa but you have to order it.

Cons: SANGRIA - DON'T ORDER IT!

The food here is good, maybe just decent. We ordered the Nachos which were impressive, though the portions were fairly small. We also had the three tacos which came with ground beef rather than steak, I sadly didn't see a steak option. Tacos were average to good. The service, however was great, the waiter and bartender were both extremely friendly and recommended which dishes to order. I would come back with a large group, the drinks looked great, but for myself or a smaller group i'd rather go elsewhere. Then again, we did go at lunch....

8 of us went in Last Friday and it was crazy busy, the hostess let us know that the wait would be awhile but that it would be way worth it. We waited for what seemed like 15 minutes and totally had the best time. Our waitress was pleasant and the food was outstanding. The prices were a little high, but the food was seriously was that good!!! YOu should definitely make a reservation and try the cajun burrito!!!!!!! Amazing

Never have I been able to find another place this side of the Rio that serves the amazing, authentic food that I find at Mexican Radio in NY. A group of friends and myself went last night and had the tastiest meal any of us have had in a long time. The margaritas were great, the service was friendly and efficient and the manager took the time to thank us for coming. Dessert is also a must have! Sit back, relax, enjoy!

I'm writing this review as a way to try and get over just how much I regret eating here last Saturday night. I'll just nail the basics:

-My dish, of a chicken chimichanga was so salty I could barely eat it. How can a mexican restaurant screw up a chimichanga? And the guacamole was beyond bland.

-The service was miserable. I have many years of service experience in Manhattan, and I'm normally very sympathetic to a server's plight. But our waitress was surly, rude, and didn't flash a smile the entire time we were there. Sorry that you had to work Christmas weekend, hon, take it up with your manager, don't take it out on your customers. I'm a notorious OVER tipper, because of her behavior I made sure my party didn't tip one penny over the requisite 18%, that I was on the verge of disputing.

-WAY overpriced. I know I know, it's Manhattan, what should I expect? Well I'd expect to NOT have to spend 4 bucks on a bowl of tostitos and mediocre salsa. I expect to NOT have to spend $11 on a par (at best) margarita on the rocks.

Not only would I not go back to this place, I would encourage all of my friends to stay away, lest be left with as sour a taste in my mouth as I was. It's one thing to be ripped off. It's quite another to be treated like garbage, leave hungry, AND be ripped off.

I just went here the other night for dinner to escape the heat and cool off with some margharitas...which were awesome (I got the XFile and tried my friend's frozen mango). I got there and the hostess was pleasent and sat us sooner than expected. We had the guacolmorle appetizer and I had the enchaladas for my main course. They were great, very generous with the cheese and I recommend the house mole, which I couldn't get enough of. Our waitress was really layed back, helpful and, although seemingly swamped with other tables (the place was bustling), was very attentive and didn't rush us. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the mood for an attitiude-free mexican experience.

The food is undeniably good. All NYC Mexican restaurant raves about their guac but Mexican Radio DOES have the best. The chile rellanos were also amazing (I still can't stop thinking about them!) Now the problems...
The service was ... Well... Not really "service". Our waitress wasn't v. friendly. She wasn't really rude either but I felt like I was eating at some cheap taco stand instead of a restaurant. She only became friendly when the manager (or he might be the owner) was around. He, however, gave great service even though he just brought our food since they didn't have a runner. The bartender was also extra friendly.
I could understand the lack of service if it was a cheap restaurant - but the prices are a bit expensive for the lack of service, decor and ambiance.
All in all, I'm torn between the amazing food and the bitter service. I'll go back - but I'll hope our waitress isn't working that night - which are Mondays around 4pm.

This is the place to be for heaping portions of really good, authentic mexican food. Decor is what you'd expect of a small, cute, quaint restaurant. The service is good if at times unattentive. The food is excellent. The salsa and guacamole was good. My chicken quesidilla was excellent and overall, everyone's meal was good. FYI, the margaritas here are potent. Great place for cheap eats and strong drinks.

The margarita's are one of the best that I have ever had. If you can agree on the flavor the pitcher is the best value.
The service was mediocre and rushed. The entrees were good and generous however the appetizer guacamole was good but WAY over priced and small, not to mention this was the first Mexican restaurant that I have ever been to that charges for chips and salsa and I do not mean seconds. We were charged 10.95 for a small guacamole portion and salsa and we did not receive the salsa.
This is a great after work bar for margaritas but not a great night out with friends for dinner place.

As a person who was always extremely disappointed with Mexican food on the East Coast, I can tell you that Mexican Radio is like finally reconnecting with a long-lost friend! Visions of SFO dance in my head! Food is fab, margaritas go down waaaaaaaaayyy too easy and it's just a fun, hopping place to be. Definitely need reservations at night so I'm trying to get there for lunch sometimes. Oh, and the $10.95 brunch is to die for!

The first time I went to Mexican Radio my experience was less than perfect, however, I have been back since and I can not say enough good things! The margaritas are the best in town, the food is perfectly spicy and the staff is great. I am so glad I came back a second time as this has become one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city. I recommend it fully.

I went to Mexican Radio for the first time last night and it is now my favorite Mexican Restuarant. Being from LA it's not often I find Mexican food I like on the east coast and the Margarita's are tasty as well as potent. The Bartender was so nice and made great recommendations on what to order. I can't wait for my next visit.

I used to eat at this restaurant all the time because it was literally right around the corner from my apartment. After moving uptown and trying other Mexican restaurants closer to my new area, I realized the quality of the food at Mexican Radio. I have not yet found any other restaurant in Manhattan where it is paralleled. The tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas, and tamales are all so authentic and so good. You must try it!

One word - Disappointing. The food was only ok--nothing special. Big portions don't make it any better. The guac, just ok, my enchillidas, pedestrian, the bill, way too high for what was delivered.

One last gripe, WTF is going on with a $13 margarita in a small glass?? McRipoff. If I'm going to get fleeced on drinks, let's make it up with better atmosphere.

Cons: overpriced drinks, mediocre food

Wen here last month. This really should be under the $$ category. The average price of a meal (app, entree, 1 drink and tip) is probably around $28. The decor is wonderful, right up to the bathrooms!!!! The staff was very attentive to my party even though the place was packed. The food is delicious and they serve huge portions, so get ready to get stuffed. Try the rasberry margaritas -- I might have found heaven.

I recently held my boyfriend's birthday party here. After making a reservation for many more people than actually showed up, the hostess was very kind in adjusting our arrangements and sat us in a nice cool basement (very welcome on a hot summer day). The drinks were great, the food was even better. I'm not sure why CitySearch puts this place in the $$$ category when none of the meals were over $16.

This is one of the best darn restaurants in NYC! The margaritas are great (they use fresh lime juice), the food is good (especially the Radio Roll-Ups and the Raspberry Mole - together!) and the decor is festive, but by far the best part of it is the people who work there -the bartenders and waiters - they are such a nice and fun group of people! I first ate at Mexican Radio back in September and I had such a great experience that I have been going back almost weekly since. I highly recommend this place for almost any occasion, but it does get crowded, so make a reservation. And if you do have any problems, just tell them and they will take care of you - if they don't know about a problem, they can't fix it!

The food was delicious but the service was awful. Expect great, authentic mexican, but don't expect water refills or your order to be correct.

not a big fan of the service or the ambience, but the food is amazing, especially considering its not terribly over priced, and later, when the lights down down, its one of my favorite makeout nooks

Four of us stumbled into Mexican Radio on Dec. 26, not exactly a heavy traffic day. Well, maybe the head chef had nothing better to do. We four had an absolutely wonderful late meal. The shrimp burrito with raspberry mole was a sublime blend of fruityness, chocolate and spice. Very much a value meal. Great bar, and the staff were first rate.

admittedly missing the cozy ambiance when mexican radio was on elizabeth, i am happy they found a new home, but sooo disappointed in what it has become ! the food is still awesome - the twist on mexican is perfect - but the service is terrible - from the apathetic hosts to the unbelievably slow servers. the margaritas and bloody marys are still among the best in the city, so get rocked while waiting !

Mexican Radio is great place for lunch. It tends to be very crowded at night since it's in Soho. The food is pretty typical Americanized Mexican fare. Nothing spectacular---but the food is tasty and filling. The staff is hip, but friendly. And this place is good place to grab drinks and a small bite after work before the dinner people swarm in.

Finally - a mexican food joint where the bartendars aren't afraid of tequila. They understand it, they respect it, and they are damn goodlooking to boot. The atmosphere is beautiful and authentic; from the punched tin mirrors to beautifully executed chile rellanos. The burritos are as big as your face and the downstairs is a perfect hideaway for large groups. Now, if we can get real queso on the menu, I may never need to go to San Antonio again.

Best Mexican food in NYC. I love mexican radio from their killer margs, to their steamy enchiladas. The prices are good, but the margs are a little expensive. For $10, I can't have as many as I'd like to!!

THe food was great...we got sat a little late..which would have bothered me had it not been for the very big very strong margarieta's. The decor was great the service was ok...and it was a bit loud, but the volume definitely goes with the young fun atmosphere!

Remember that tiny tiny place around the corner? THAT was the Mexican Radio my friends and I loved. When we heard they were moving it to a larger location, we all feared we would lose everything we loved.
Well, as predicted, the new location is larger, louder, less friendly, and a little more expensive. On the up side, you can get seats without drinking yourself silly at the bar (wait IS that a good thing?). The food is still excellent, including a wide menu selection and mouth-watering specials.
If you frequented the old location, however, I'll bet you feel the way I do: I miss it. That homemade sangria, the smiles of the 3 employees, and the conversation with people at adjoining tables are gone...

You just may be singing to that Mexican radio mentioned in the restaurant's name after sampling one of the 23 different types of tequila available here. This fun, funky spot offers the usual selection of enchiladas and quesadillas, as well…
