The food is just OK

by Mary D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 1,946

We went to lunch at this restaurant recently, and while the food was OK, it's nothing I would really recommend to anyone. I've gone to a lot better Italian restaurants. The chicken parmagian I had didn't have much taste. My husband had fish and he said it was OK. The price was fairly inexpensive, and that's the only reason I would ever go back.

Manga!!! till you drop

by Alan B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,313

This simple red sauce venue is packed always with locals and those who moved away and return just to eat their delicious home made food. I always claim Im going to try something new but each and every time stick with the house salad (big enough for 4!!) and 2 orders and the most amazing baked claims this side of the ocean and the mouth watering veal parm. Some day Ill try something new lol

Solid, not spectacular

by gz81

My family have been fans of this place for many years. I'll agree with some reviews below that some dishes are better than others. I've heard that they buy many of their supplies from Pastosa, which might be why I really like their sauce. It's perfectly suitable for a casual dinner or low-key celebration.

Pros: Decent Italian, affordable

Cons: Can get very busy

neighborhood staple

by miriam12

fun, casual family place. The pasta is good. Don't think the other foods will be good. The house wine is fine, plentiful and cheap. It is possible to have a good meal for the whole family for $100. Dont compare it to pricier restaurants

Pros: cheap

Cons: only order pasta

Great Food, With Some Exceptions!

by dbny

We first went to this place after reading an Arthur Schwartz review. Over the years we have discovered that certain dishes are reliably great, and others are not. The Combination Salad is my favorite salad of any restaurant I've ever been to. The dressing is light and there are many ingredients, including pimentos, green and black olives, and garlic. We always get it! The broccoli rabe is also very good as a side dish, which you won't need if there are only two of you. Dishes we love there are the grilled veal chops (two 6 oz, thich and juicy chops), the shrimp parmesan (huge, lightly breaded, great sauce), and the filet mignon. We have not been so happy with the pasta primavera, but the capellini with garlic and oil is a real winner (though not on the menu.) Those reviewers who panned this place simply ordered the wrong things. You can't make a mistake with anything from the grill!

The Worst Italian

by mogalka

Food was awful The cheese used for the parmesean dishes melted and hardened up into 1 long piece of a chewy mess-to be thrown away-not eaten Eggplant was undercooked hard in spots stringy in others Sauce was no better than a bottom of line jarred sauce Cold antipasto was disgraceful A bunch of pickled mushrooms-carrots-celery sitting on barely noticeable iceberg lettuce-a thin slice of a: tomatoe and cucumber Dressed up with a few olives-1 piece of pimento and 1 hair thin slice of salami-proccuitto and mortodella. The waiters were inept. DO NOT SPEND YOUR $$ HERE.

Pros: Parking on a Sunday early evening on the street in front was no problem

Cons: Everything else

Wouldn't consider this again

by arpans

Though I heard so much about this restaurant years ago, I finally got to eat there. The service was excellent, cordial, and prompt. But the Veal Parm was very below average - almost sour tasting, and tough to chew in parts. The spaghetti was al dente, but very garlicy [wh/ is fine with me]. Prices are reasonable, but you get what you pay for.

Fill up on the bread...this is for people who do not know what italian food is supposed to taste like

by angienyc

I dont know where these above average reviews are coming from, but i've been here several times (not by choice you see...graduation parties for friends, etc.), and every single time it was disappointing. First of all, it is SO noisey and crowded. Most of the time there is a wait with people standing in the front waiting to get called in for their table (why people would wait by choice, i dont know). Secondly, the food is far below average. Being of italian decent, i find it insulting that this place is rated highly. It is one step above The Olive Garden. I had gnocci one time and it literally tasted like unflavored raw dough sitting in watery ketchup. However, the wine menu is SURE TO IMPRESS! Ask about their wine selection! JUST ASK! There is ONE type of each wine! ONE! i asked for a glass of "the" chard and actually sent it back because it tasted sour, only to have it replaced with "the" pinot, which i took one sip of and left on the table. Eggplant parm is a travesty! a watery mess! If you go there, just fill up on the bread they give you in the beginning. Its cheap though...thats the only plus.

Pros: cheap

Cons: noisey, crowded, food, wine selection

This is Brooklyn!

by mepexec

I've been dining at Fiorentino's for years. I grew up in Coney Island and now reside on Long Island. I make it my business to eat there at least twice a month. Excellent service! Definately go with the waitstaff's suggestions. Everytime I bring new people to dine there they can't believe how Fresh the Seafood is. The grilled meats and pasta's are superb. Can't remember the last time I looked at the menu. Just tell the waiter if you like fish, meat or poultry and leave it up to them. Very affordable dining.

As Brooklyn as it gets...

by mitsy4400

I've been going to Fiortino's probably since before I could walk, talk, or chew solid food...and my hope to still be going when I can once again no longer walk, talk or chew solid food. Its that good. Food over the years has gotten better and better, the service, while abrupt at times b/c of the crowd is always prompt and the waiters hit it right on the head. Its way out there in the borough but if you happen to be in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn, make sure you don't pass it up. Perfect for kids and large parties. Just make sure you make a reservation if you are a group.

obsolete antique cuisine

by yowyee

my brother brought me here, I was a little nervous, since the restaurant sat next to a funeral parlor.
I could see that loads of people came here, it was
crowded, and loud and boisterous. The ambiance seemed authentic, But the food was mediocre. I ordered veal marsala, and it came drowning in a
thin un-sauce-like liquid that still reeked of the alcohol not quite burned off. And it sat on top of mushy spinach? spinach? What is lacking here is a sense of what
Italian food is about. Fresh ingredients and quickly
sauteed' food. I was not impressed. Prices are too
high for this kind of food.

Pros: plenty of room

Cons: needs more quality, dishes not creative, needs fresher concept
