Well, I loves me a good Margarita, I cannot lie, and Arriba Arriba delivers! The prices can be a bit steep, but then again when you are getting yourself a bucket or Margaritas, by the time you get to the bottom of it, the price is the least of your worry.

There is plenty of eye candy to be seen at Arriba Arriba, especially the large, loud and adorable contingent of gay men (you're welcome!), who stroll up and down 9th Ave and settle in for some good Mexican. The prices are a bit above average for similar cuisine in other places, but it's fun, it's tasty and its worth the trip. And the hangover the next morning.

Arriba Arriba serves good traditional Mexican food. Everything I have had there has a little spicy bite, so if you like your food mild, it's something to keep in mind. They offer a nice lunch special.

My experience was one of the worst dining experience of my life so far. The food took nearly 45 minutes to come out. There were just four of us and sure most of the tables were full... but 45 minutes (that's just ridiculous)! The food was enjoyable once it arrived but as soon as they cleared our table, they began to hound us to leave. The hostess came by and snatched the tip off the table asking if we were waiting for something. When we replied 'no' she began to stroll back and forth watching our table. Feeling unwelcome, we stood to leave as we did one of our party made it clear that we no longer felt wanted in the restaurant. The management's response was "well you should leave... you are done with your meal... go ahead get out!!" At that exact same moment he put the bar arm down and struck one of my friends in the mouth!!! The evening was ruined of course!! It was an unfortunate event that ended an evening that had such promise!! We will NEVER go back.

Some friends and I were visiting NYC, and chose to check out Arriba Arriba. We had a party of about 9 people. We waited about 20-25 minutes for our seats, which was no big deal. What did make us mad, was that we waited over an hour and a half for our food! Seriously! When we asked the waiter what was going on, he responded by saying that they were very busy, so everyone has to wait for their food. Then, they also said that our party was so large. Whatever! I guess they didn't care since they were already getting 20% gratuity! Ugh! Also, when we finally got the food, it was just mediocre. We are from Texas, so we weren't too cool with the shredded beef on the tacos and nachos. Also, my tacos were all soggy, which was not cool at all! I had a strawberry colada, and it was more like a milkshake than an alcoholic beverage.

I will preface this by saying that my party of 4 was seated immediately (after finding 30 minute waits at most other restaurants on that block), and the food was excellent. The service, however, was not actually "service", but an afterthought. We were so excited when we received a amazingly attractive waiter, but that excitement died rapidly upon realizing that sometimes the truly beautiful are true idiots. 30 minutes after I ordered it my Coke arrived, my friend ordered a cranberry juice when our food arrived, the juice itself arrived 5 minutes after the check. Now, I am a actor/waiter and I have NEVER not left a tip, but after everything, I felt it was deserved. We tried to get the waiter's attention to explain the situation to him, but he never revisited our table; a busboy picked up our check and cards. 3 days later, I find that Pretty Boy has added his own four dollar tip to my card. I call the restaurant to complain, and I get stuck talking to a very rude man who won't let me speak to a manager until I give my name, number and the reason I'm calling. Manager on phone was nice enough, promised to get right on it, so we'll see.

But of all the amazing places to eat on Ninth Avenue, why choose a place you'll be taking a chance on? I've read the other reviews, and it seems like when Arriba Arriba is on, they are ON. But too many times they're not, so why risk it? This was not our first choice, and on reflection, we should have waited for a table at VYNL.

My daughter, already hooked on Arriba Arriba, recommended this restaurant. She and I arrived at approximately 7 PM last night and, although there was a wait for parties of three or more, we were seated immediately. As has been pointed out before, it is definitely crowded and loud, but I adapted quickly. I had to try the Mama Margarita (27 oz.) and was not disappointed as they did not skimp on the alcohol. I ordered the Carne a la Parrilla and, much to my daughter's surprise, ate every morsel off my plate. That does not happen often ! Our waiter, Chad, asked if I lived in NYC and , after I answered in the affirmative, he pulled out the menu and suggested a dish for my next visit. He was right on the money because I know I will visit again and sooner rather than later. The price was right. The crowd was fun and friendly. The DJ was a treat. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, I "dared" to have another Mama Margarita.

Pros: Mama Margarita, Perfectly Seasoned Steak, Fun

Cons: Not for people who want a quiet little dinner

It was the 2nd time there and we've had an overall good experience. If you like Tex-Mex, it's a good place to go. Probably the better Mexican cuisine establishment in the area.

TERRIBLE SERVICE
Ate here once before and it was "ok" - nothing special nothing out of the ordinary, loud but ok dim, late night type atmpshere - decided to go again because it's in the area - MISTAKE - food is decorative and not truly or traditionally mexican at all...portions are decent - considering you are stuffed from the chips (that they take forever to refill) because the waiter takes FOREVER to come around
We ordered 2 frozen margaritas and by the time the waiter got to the bar, picked up the drinks and served them, they were melted. He took forever with everything (except coming to check on the bill 3x ofcourse), I wasnt sure if they were understaffed or what it was, but either way, after all of this, spoke to the manager, and he hardly apologizes and says the bar crew is understaffed (which had nothing to do at all with why everything else took forever--food, chips, forgotten items we ordered) - bad excuses for bad service - try a real mexican place, or someplace known for both authentic food and good service

I came to Arriba Arriba to meet some friends for drinks. I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in NYC but this is one of the best. The Margaritas we great (and very strong) and the spicy shrimp tacos amazing. Ambiance is nice too! Staff friendly.

I've been going here for several years now. With coworkers, friends, and family. it's AMAMZING.. cheap food and GREAT SANGRIA .. get the large pitcher. If you want to go somewhere with cheap good food this is the place. But they don't take reservations and you might have to wait.. more reasons to drink sangria!

Host /Manager went mising for 20 minutes when we were trying to be seated and didn't offer an apology when he arrived, only attitude. They should really hire a seperate host/hostess. Waited 15 minutes for a pitcher of sangria once seated. But the food was awesome, especially the shrimp burritos.

The food for the most part is spot on for great taste. The ambiance is nice though tight and small. However, the Manager who also doubles as the Host is less than gracious and often times very rude to the patrons. I witnessed The Manager harrassing a group of three throughout their dinner about wanting the table that he himself sat them at so he could seat a larger party by one more person. If this restaurant expects the locals to continue to come as myself and overheard this group of three saying they have for many YEARS, then the owners of Arriba Arriba need to give their Host some lessons in etiquette, tact and decorum. Let's face it, great restaurants in the NYC area of Hell's Kitchen are a dime dozen and great food alone isn't going to cut it. People pay for great food and deserve at the very least hospitable service which is not present when this Manager is on the floor chasing patrons off tables and out the door. If the bottom line is only to make money by turning tables over as quckily as possible, you'd do better going to McDonald's where there you can at least take your time to enjoy your meal.

There are far too many other Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood to waste your time hoping that someone, anyone will ask you how your meal is or whether you'd like something more to drink. If my waiter or the bus boy had come back to ask if the food was okay, if they had checked to see if I wanted something more than the complimentary tap water, if they had brought me my check when I asked for it, I'd probably have rated Arriba Arriba a 5. Blockheads isn't fine dining, but at least they acknowledge I'm there. And Mi Nidito is more than happy to refill margaritas.

I went yesterday with my coworkers after deciding which mexican restaurant to try. The waiter and host were very friendly. The place was packed for lunch. The lunch menu is not as extensive but they have very good choices for $8 you'll get a complimentary drink (alcoholic as well, the sangria was good) , chips and your main course. I had the enchilada and I'll have to say the seasoning was perfect as well as the green sauce. The portions are not that great but it'll fill you up and give you a bit of room to share their yummy fried ice cream. The decor is not much, the bar is the first thing you see, a bit small of a restaurant but thats not a bad thing. Will go again.

I've gone to AA since it opened, just two blocks from my old apartment on W. 49th Street (I've since moved way uptown!). The food has always been excellent but the noise level is so horrendous I've sworn off going there any more. Last time I was there (July, 2006), we asked if the music could be turned down because despite the small (make that EXTREMELY small) table space between my dinner date and myself, we were shouting our conversation and still couldn't be heard. We were told the manager did not want the music turned down. Besides leaving hoarse, we were temporarily hearing impaired -- not a way to spend an evening, at all! We figured out the reason for the deafening level was so that patrons would hurry up and eat and not linger so that new customers could be seated. I'll go to Taco Bell before I go back to AA!

Arriba Arriba is by far the most fun mexican restaurant in NYC. The ambiance is fantastic - super loud with dance music usually, so not the best date place. Go with a group of friends! The service is great, the food is great...and the margaritas. WOW. The best part. Order a Mama margarita. They are delciously refreshing, and absurdly strong. Order a 2nd and you may not be able to stand up straight by the end of your meal - my kind of drink!

food was great - shredded chicken burrito, mama's burrito (vegetarian).
salsa is amazing here, the chips could use more salt.
service is very very quick.
margertias were good and spiked.
price is very reasonable.
don't think this place is romantic, it is very loud, it is hard to hear people speaking.
very cramped. great music.

I've been going to Arriba-Arriba for years and can't get enough of it. The food is wonderful. The staff are friendly. The drinks are amazing! Being a vegetarian, some Mexican places don't have much of a selection for me, but I never get tired of trying the varieties they offer here.
The tortilla chips they put on your table arrrive warm and the salsa can't seem to get in my husbands mouth fast enough. The guacamole is made by hand and I can't bear to leave even a morsel of it behind.
The bean burritos and the cheese enchiladas are to die for and don't get me started on their refried beans.

I can't believe the lackluster reviews here, I've never had a bad experience at Arriba. I've been going to this restuarant for years--the margaritas are fantastic, and the food is delicious. Coming from Oklahoma, I never thought I'd find good Mexican or BBQ in the city. Thankfully, there's Arriba for Mexcian (though I'm still looking for BBQ, and Virgil's just doesn't cut it). The waiters are always terrific, and the DJ plays good music. Sometimes it feels more like a gay club than a Mexican restaurant (though they really should bring back the disco ball). Ignore the nay-sayers, try this place, it's a winner!

I ordered a large margarita and it was terrible; the worst well tequila I have ever tasted. I told the waiter that my drink tasted very bad and asked if he could swap it out for a Petron Margarita. The waiter returned and said the bartender refused to take my drink back because there was nothing wrong with it and I would have to pay for it. I asked to speak to the manager who told me the same thing. They were so unwilling to compromise it was absurd. I told the manager to pour my drink down the drain, cancel my food orders and give me the check. I have spent about $800 at this place over the last 6 months and will NEVER go back; literally the WORST dining experience I have ever had in NYC.

This place is soooo yummy for mexican- all of the stuff on your plate has distinctive flavors and the drinks keep coming! The only con is that the place is always so full and the tables are tight- so you have to inhale for people to pass- but the tequilla is so good that you forget about all that and enjoy your food- good service- and the energy of all of the happy people around you in a great area of the city- all of the great things you would look for in Chelsea- without having to impress anybody!

Used to LOVE this place, especially their frozen margaritas and wonderful wait staff. But the hosts...oh, the hosts. Rude, unaccommodating and dumb as stones. Despite being a "regular" - sometimes 2-3x a week - the host has refused to seat me (1) full party was not there (even though we offered to pay for a 3rd entree if the person didn't show up) or (2) no 2-seaters were available, yet 8 4-seats sat empty. I'll miss the joint, even if they won't miss my business.

Pros: Margaritas, Wait Staff/Bartenders

Cons: , Customer Service

.

if yoiu want to take your grandfather who has colitis and ulcers to a "mexican" restaurant, this should be your choice! the food is so bland and spiceless, he won't be able to distinguish it from the tapioca pudding at the nursing home. the "salsa" tastes like campbell's tomato soup. i asked for a side of "diablo" hot sauce. it was about as hot as gazpacho, and they had the nerve to charge $2 for 2 tablespoons of it! it was worse thsn taco bell.

Knowing Arriba Arriba is in my neighborhood makes me a happy woman. I love the burritos (I get them every time -can't help myself), the chicken w/spinach special is fantastic, just to name a few of the many spectacular options on their menu. With the awesome chips & salsa constantly replenished, attentive wait staff (always keeps the water glass full, except not quite as attentive on weekend nights with the jam packed atmosphere). Food almost always served with great speed and the frozen margaritas are heavenly (my favorite is the strawberry). Down side is it can be loud with people and/or music so if you are in the mood for quiet time, intimate conversation I would have to pass unless you go early in the evening.

Pros: food, staff, frozen margaritas

Cons: loud, crowded at times

I've been coming here for years and watched the atmosphere sink, sink, sink.

Tables moved closer, volume louder, service more impersonal.

After being rudely told that every one would have to be present to be seated we waited ( a big five minutes) for the rest of our small group. "We're sooo busy" (there were three visible tables empty)

Nine dollar "food minimum". (the one person who wasn't eating easily would have had 40 dollars of Margaritas).

This place is becoming so gay-centric that it seems to be deliberately alienating everyone else. They need to realize they are not that good. If another good Mexican rest. opened up in Hells Kitchen, it would put this dump out of business.

Don't know if it's the cilantro or onions, but they serve the best salsa in the city. This is a great dive bar for good margaritas and cheap eats! Friendly service although it can be slow at lunchtime!
