Unfortunately, True North Marine is anything but true. I live in Pasadena, MD and we saw a boat advertised on True North Marine's website that we were interested in. We were instructed to give True North Marine a "good faith deposit" to be able to come to New York tosee and test drive the boat as well as survey it. The deposit required was 5,000.00 dollars. Unfortunately, when we traveled to New York, the boat was not in the condition it was advertised in. The boat was advertised as "in excellent condition" and Mr. Caselnova described the boat to be "cherry", however, the surveyor described the boat as "fair at best" and the boat was not even ready to be driven when we arrived. In fact, the boat went into reverse when put into drive and had a dead battery when we arrived and a multitude of other problems. This was not the boat we had in mind! We had planned this trip for three weeks and Mr. Caselnova was aware we would be coming. Needless to say, we did not wish to purchase the boat. Mr. Caselnova promised to refund our "good faith deposit" yet he never did. We even had a contract stating we would be able to recieve a refund should the boat not perform or survey to our satisfaction. Buyer Beware. We found out after the fact that True North Marine has an F rating with BBB on a rating scale of A+ to F. We now are in the process of suing Mr. Caselnova and True North Marine to get our deposit back. The moral of the story.... proceed with caution and do not give a deposit to hold any boat because it won't be given back to you. Bottom line is this, Mr. Caselnova told us the delay in returning our deposit was because his wife had breast cancer and he was having financial problems. That was almost a year ago and he has not sent us one dollar of our money back. How are his personal problems our problem? Please don't let his personal and financial problems become yours. True North Marine is False North Marine!

Buyer Beware! My experience with True North Marine was not as excellent as Robin G experienced. If you'd like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at vin.mccauley@yahoo.com. Long story short. I found Mr. Caselnova to be extremely responsive, nice, friendly and accomodating before I signed a contract and gave a deposit. After the fact, it became increasingly difficult to contact him or get returned phone calls or emails. The boat I was interested in did not pass it's survey, so I declined to consumate the transaction. That is when all responses from Mr. Caselnova stopped. It's going 3 months and he has still not returned my deposit. I originally went to Mr. Caselnova for two reasons. First, he had a boat for sale that I was interested in. Secondly, because on his website he says he specializes in first time buyers and his motto is "because nice matters".

Below is an excerpt from the last email I recieved from Mr. Caselnova.

"you have no idea who you are screwing with. and i do not take threats very well. now that you have decided to be a dick i definitely will not be returning your deposit any time soon and i can make websites too , mine is going to be www.customersthatsuck.com and you will be the poster boy for it !"

Again, his motto is "Because Nice Matters". That is literally cut and pasted from his last email to me, if you'd like the full email - please contact me and I'd be happy to forward it to you. I won't say "do not do business with Mr. Caselnova" but I would encourage you do one of two things if you are considering buying a boat from him ... 1) have a lawyer spend a good deal of time going over the P&S contract before giving a deposit 2) don't give a deposit unless you are prepared to lose it. At this point, dealing with Mr. Caselnova has cost me over $2,000 (trip to NY, survey, legal fee's and deposit) and I am not the proud owner of a new boat. I've spoken to other people in the marine business in Long Island and they have said it's people like Mr. Caselnova that give marine brokering a bad name. According to my dealings with him, I'd have to concur. Buyer Beware!

I was looking for a used boat and came across True North. The owner was a great guy. He was a big help. Showed me a lot of boats. I was able to work to work with him on prices.
