There so many things I love from this place first all for the location the price are OK the menu are very simple and delicius, the pleace itself is beautiful minimalistic deco and unisex bath-room. I usally go fridays at night and must said sometimes I have to wait to get a table but if you arrive before 9pm theres no a problem.

I just had the most atrocious experience in this place. I ordered a dish where the main food was supposed to be Scottish Salmon but actually tasted more like chalky cardboard that had probably spent the last month or so in their refrigerator uncovered along with soggy blackbread and dryed out cream cheese - this is known as their SSS sandwich - I also ordered a split of Pommery champagne in the pop bottle which was downright sour On top of this we had a nasty waitress who couldn??t give us the time of day followed by a berating by the manager who claimed that the waitress complained that we were nasty to her when i made her take back my dish I eat in nice restaurants all the time and, while having been in the business many years ago which makes me more critical than most patrons would be, I don??t usually complain unless there is something extremely wrong. I usually also forgive the food if the service is nice but this place was batting -0-

I am a regular at Bar 89 as I am sometimes there every week or at least every other week. When I go I like to sit upstairs because I like to be able to get a full view of the restaurant and just take everything in.

The drinks at Bar89 are very good and are very strong. The food is also good as well and the portions are indeed very generous.

The one and this is the ONLY problem I have had at Bar89 to date is the horrible service I received on May 1st. I just remember the date because it was somebody's birthday and I was taking them to Bar89 before we went to a lounge. I was sitting in the front of the house and the drinks and the food were good as usual, but this was the first time that I had terrible service.

We had a waitress there who had glasses, and I didn't catch her name, but I specifically ask not to sit in her section when we go there now. The service was extremely slow. When our food came, we didn't have any utensils or napkins. It seemed like it took her twenty minutes to do every little thing. We ordered drinks from the bar and waited for what seemed like an eternity to get them. The table that she was serving across from us actually had to go to the bar to ask her what was taking so long with their drinks or if she had even put them in, and one of them just wanted water!

Other than that one experience, I continue to be a regular at Bar89, and always will be. Ironically, the guests that I brought to Bar89 asked me when we were going back again.

Pros: Excellent Service and Great Atmosphere

Me and a couple friends came to Bar 89, May 9 to celebrate my best friends 21st bday. We were originally going TGI Fridays and at the last min I mentioned about this place and we were out., lol...We were reallllll skeptical, we thought we'd be in a bootleg Uno's. But really the place is soooo beautfiul, we were greeted by a doorman and I'm guessing the owner, based on our convo with him. When inside we were able to choose our own table. The waitress was really patient, courteous and very nice, esp with the birthday girl who couldnt decide wat would be her first cocktail. The decor is really beautiful, we had lilacs on our table with white candles, a sky roof overhead and No tvs! I loved that, I didnt have to worry about anyone focusing on a playoff game, it was really a social setting. I could see myself coming there after work or after shopping just to unwind. The food was delicious and reasonably priced esp. for it's location. We had burgers and chicken sandwiches which were superb, esp since I could actually taste that it was grilled. And the A+ goes also to the vegetables and fruits, a very good alternative to just having sum fries. The bathroom is beautiful as well, its like walking into sum 4 star hotel, it was clean and had an original design with indiviual stalls and automatic foggy doors...I really loved this place. If your looking to hangout with good food and your friends you should really try this place...:o)

P.S. Try the Huckleberry Lemonade...Delicious!

We repeat our patronage to Bar 89 mainly because of the service. They are some of the most outgoing bartenders/wait staff we've encountered in NYC: warm, friendly, fast, and always personable. The food is always fresh and consistant. The cocktails are unique and delicious yet a bit pricey. However you do get your money's worth!

I was just at this restaurant yesterday and was not disappointed. They are also open on Christmas day starting at 5pm and New Years at noon, so if you are just in town visiting you still have the opportunity to check it out. The kitchen even stays open until 1am everyday in true NYC fashion so you can grab a generous meal and heavily poured martini. You def. get the most for your money. Oh and did I mention the art work they have up for the holidays? A two story Christmas tree made from REAL money. My waitress informed me 3,200 dollars worth of it!

Pros: Right in the middle of great SOHO shopping

Cons: A bit hidden when look down street

Worst place ever. The service was terrible. The waiter was really rude. Will not recommand to my friends or family. Food... not impressive at all and over priced. Shame shame shame! The only good thing... the bathroom. It's very interesting.

Uncomplicated menu and nice selection of wine/mixed drinks. I have yet to have a bad meal at Bar 89?s . The service is sometimes inconsistent but the consistency in the food makes up for it.
My personal favorite item is the Burger Alfredo .

I highly recommend Bar 89 if you are looking for a good place for a reasonably priced meal. I didn't see many tourists despite its SoHo location; it is in fact very low key and difficult to spot from the street. The decor is a little too plain for my taste, and the tables are a bit too small, but the incredible value and attentive service make it a worthwhile stop if you are in the area. I tried the burger alfredo and pork lettuce wraps - both were excellent.

Me and my man got this place recommended by a sells person from Broadway. He said the best about it so we were curious. The moment I walked in I felt in love with it. Clean, nice, good customer service, decoration, simplicity even the reasonable prices. I don't really like burgers or sandwiches but this place changed my mind. Drinx were well chilled and food properly cooked. Too much of a raw veggie tough. But what really impressed me was the bathroom. When I saw the see-thought glass I changed my mind about using it....later I realized how silly I was when It darkened once you walk in. I love it. Will go again when I go to NYC next time. At least to use the bathroom :-)

I LOVE BAR 89 & GO EVERY TIME I AM IN NY. GREAT ATMOSPHERE, YUMMY EATS& AWESOME DRINKS. VERY REASONABLY PRICED! THEY CHANGE THE ARTWORK EVERY MONTH OR SO, & IT IS ALWAYS A TREAT TO SEE. THE BATHROOMS ARE ALSO A GREAT DESIGN TWIST SO USE THE RESTROOM WHEN YOU ARE THERE. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO MAKE A RESERVATION.

very cool bathrooms! I dont want to ruin the surprise, so you'll have to go see yourself! and the place is very comfortable and cute, its a good time out with friends, or a date to grab a drink. I would recommend it! The crowd isn't too bad either.

I have a cousin from a midwestern state and we were in this neighborhood and stopped in for two drinks. Although I know it has lost a bit of its hipness, it is still plenty hip enough and my cousin thought he was in the center of the hip universe while we were there. I love NYC.

Cons: not crazy about bathrooms as schtick

Going to this BAR 89/restaurant was a great experience. I loved the bathrooms. I initially wanted to go there just for the bathrooms but the food and drinks was delicious. You gotta try the buffalo wings!!! We celebrated one of our girlfriend's bachelorette party there.

I went to Bar 89 several months ago with a girlfriend. On a Friday night at 8:00, we were seated promptly w/o a reservation. I had the Burger Au Poivre II, which has crumbled blue cheese and bacon, and I craved it again for weeks afterward. I also had a coconut martini, which was delish as well. I found the service unpretentious and loved the decor.

The food is surprisingly good, the ambience is relaxing, and the service was unpretentious. I was told the art work installation changes periodically. One must use the bathroom at least once. A good place to rest and eat a little after shopping in Soho; slightly pricy but affordable.

I don't drink so I can't comment on them but the bar was packed.

I think some people never had good fruity drinks to know the difference. It's just an upscale diner, the only haute clients must have found a place with better ambiance. As for the food you are better off buy a tv dinner.

Very cool place in terms of architecture and interior design. However, the crowd isn' what it used to be. If you are in the neighborhood and need to go to the bathroom, check out their transparent bathroom doors!

I just called to ask about reservations for my birthday party for 12 people and the guy who answered the phone was extremely rude. I had enjoyed the place before however this definitely put me off. Instead of being nice and working with me he was competely rude. I will definitely let my friends know that bar 89 does not care about its customers. What a shame!

The space is still slick and very comfortable, the bathrooms still amaze, it is still a cool haven on a sticky NYC day; but it's not really a place to go for the food, nor for special drinks. Several times I've eaten here, I've always had a large amount of wilting fruit slices on garnishing my dish. The Buffalo Chicken salad has a dispraportionate amount of blue chees and sauce, smothering all other flavors. The delightful thick bacon in the BLTs is not complemented by the feably soft bread. The Bloodys are different each time and are usually on the sweet side. And this Summer's special Front Porch Iced Tea tastes like it is full of corn syrup, like one of those giant deli-bought "southwestern" iced-teas with a hint of vodka. Have a beer, a simple martini or a glass of wine, enjoy the ambience and then go somewhere else.

This place is AWESOME! The 1st time I visited Bar 89 was 5 years ago - and today, the Bar is still fabulous, still sceney, and still one of the BEST BAR/RESTAURANT's in NEW YORK! THey have incredible drinks and incredibly reasonable pricces for food! Everytime I walk into Bar 89 there's a different artst display that captivates me as i dine! This place is truly a gem... and one of the best kept secrets in NY!

Models frequent this SoHo hot-spot to sip champagne and not eat vegetable plates (which are really amazing, so you should eat them!). In-the-know New Yorkers come for the fab ahi salad, filling burgers (veggie and cow, both rockin') and, well, the bathrooms. Just check them out, they're the coolest.

I went there to celebrate my birthday and had a pretty large crowd of about 10 confirmed and a few other possible. It was after work on a Thursday so the place was getting packed. They were very helpful in finding an area for us all and when more people than expected came, they were very accommodating in trying to make the fit with the rest of the party. The food ordered, some had appetizers and others main courses, arrived in a timely fashion. Our drinks were always correct, regardless of how many were ordered at one time. It was a mix crowd and you didn't feel like an outsider. The bathroom, of course, are fun...There was always someone scared to go in.

we had placed an order for the wings combo platter and waited for 30 minutes before getting the food. the drinks, however, came in a more timely manner. when someone from our table of 5 asked the waitress for refill on water, she comes back and fills only that person's glass, leaving the rest of the table with almost empty glasses. and when we asked her back to fill the rest of the glasses, she gives attitude . . .

Went with a party of 6 and found the food to be on the rather poor...greasy burgers, a tad cold and nothing to write home about. About half of us felt unwell at the end of the evening....I think we got a bad batch of nachos.

In essence its slightly upmarket junk food...and only upmarket because of the price hike.

A good place to go if you want to get something to eat after shopping in Soho. Although the menu is somewhat limited to appetizers and sandwiches, everyone can usually find something they like. The burgers are excellent especially the one with the jalapenos. A lot of people go just to check out the unisex bathroom.....a good place for a casual but not slobby dinner.

Bar 89 looks like what it is; an over-decorated diner with a nightlife. The food here is actually pretty damned good; portabella sandwich is delicious, and grilled cheese is above par. Appetizers are less exciting than they sound. All dishes are pretty large, and come with an assortment of extras, though side dishes seem to vary on an arbitrary system (fruit? vegetables? fries?). Share with someone (but don't tell the waiter - extra charge). This place is a bit pricey (to pay for the changing installations on the high walls, and perhaps to maintain the famous bathrooms (well worth a look, a stare, a blink of shock, etc). At night, reserve or come early - it's hard to get through the happy hour hoarde. State law is apparently helpless against the smokers in this dining room.

I was there with my friends few weeks ago and the bouncer asked us for an ID. We are all well over 21. Unfortunately, one of us didn't bring his ID card. Meanwhile these two "young" people came and they just went right in and the bouncer didn't even care to check their ID. How can you not check their ID but ask us to show the ID? I totally don't understand why and I can only think of it as "discrimination".
Yeah~ their bathroom is cool but it's not worthwhile to go there at all. I was there few times before when they didn't check the ID card. The service was poor anyway and food?.....not so good.
If you were to check the ID card, you should check everybody's except for the seniors.

This place is wack. The service during lunch is very slow. The sandwiches and fries are nothing to
sneeze at, but they're not spectacular either.
I've been here 3 times and twice they've screwed
up my order. But the ambience is very Soho
and the bathrooms are a great novelty. Other
than that this place is a bit lame. And the menu
seems to be somewhat pricey for just upscale
diner food!

Pros: nice ambience, decent food, cool bathrooms

Cons: slow service, over priced

I always trek to Bar 89 and get one of their huge sandwiches that comes with fries. Unlike steak frites, these are criss cut and they don't get burnt. They're perfectly salted and taste great with they yummy sandwiches they accompany. It's the perfect fix for a salt craving.

I actually think this is a pretty cool place, even if it is way past its time. Yes, the bathrooms are cool. The food is OK and the space is open and fun. But one thing that has really turned me off from this place is the fact that i ordered a Saphire gimlet (or 2) and when the bill came my friends drinks were $9 (top shelf) and my drinks were $16 each. I know NY is expensive and I'm used to spending $12/ drink, but that's at a place where i expect it. I wouldn't even have minded if they had at least told me first. Also, it takes forever to get a drink upstairs.
I hope this place doesn't turn into Lemon Bar.

Cons: Wait staff

I've always liked this restaurant because of its atmosphere. You should go just to experience the bathrooms! The service is a bit slow and unattentive, that's my only complaint!

Good 'Strong' drinks, decent price food, good ambience. Great for after work drinks and dinner. Not smoky or loud like other bars.

It was the standard, nice, minimally decorated type of bar with expensive drinks. Don't get the mojito, it was too sweet there, they add ginger ale to it. The mule comes in a great copper mug. The best thing about this place was the ventilation. Many people were smoking, but you can't tell at all. This is a great place for non-smokers who hate to sit in a smelly smoke filled bar.

I stepped into Bar 89 around late afternoon on a summer day. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and expected to be turned away, but I wasnt. Of course I was driven here to see the famous bathrooms, but I ended up sticking around for a few drinks. The decor is minimalist and modern, almost verging on antiseptic, but it has a good overall feel. I was pleased by their selection of liquors, especially whiskey. Its worth a visit.
