Reviews for Greenstar Co-Op Market

Ratings_icons Different kind of supermarket

Greenstar is definitely different from your "normal" supermarket. It is a co-op and members get a discount on groceries. It has a fair selection of items, although nowhere near what Wegman's or Topp's have. Many of the items are organic and/or locally grown, which a lot of people tend to like (especially in Ithaca). I especially like their pre-made foods. They have a great selection of refrigerated goods that you can eat on the spot or just heat up and also make sandwiches and other goods (like lasagna) for sale.

Ratings_icons An Ithaca institution

Greenstar has been around Ithaca long enough to make you think they started the idea of a "healthy food co-op". They certainly did around here (and are now basically the only choice in town). The selection (and taste) of healthy, organic, vegetarian, and vegan prepared foods can't be beat. The overall product selection of "good for you, good for the environment" products is decent, if not great. The organic produce selection and quality could be pumped up a great deal (in-season, the Ithaca Farmer's Market is the better choice -- out-of-season, the organic produce at some of the supermarkets is better).

PROS: As close to a Whole Foods as you'll get in a small town
CONS: Their staff needs some knowledge and motivation

Ratings_icons Very expensive place

I don't know why sooo many people like there and recommend it to me. It's too expensive.
I can never afford to eat the food sold in there every day. I may buy a tomato just to see how it's different from the ons in Tops.
Also, it's not located at the same place with any other stores, so you can't do other shoppings at the same time when you shop there. While tops usually are located in some mall, and have big parking lot.

The store is popular, but I don't know why.
I only went there once and didn't buy anything---It's too expensive!!!
I don't see any difference from their food and the food in other grocery stores, but they are always twice or three times more expensive...

Awesome grocery store. Carries so many great products. Organic and locally produced fruits and veggies. Has bulk food section and offers health and nutrition items. Friendly earth conscious employees are always helpful! Large open store with everything including a delit area. The parking area is very large.
