Planet Sushi is the largest Japanese restaurant on the Upper West Side, with a spacious covered sidewalk patio. Our experienced staff includes a traditional Japanese chef who prepared meals on the Queen Elizabeth II. We serve fresh, flavorful Japanese dishes, ranging from sushi and sashimi to noodles and tempura. We are conveniently located just steps away from Central Park and the Museum of Natural HIstory. Keep your eyes peeled there have been plenty of celebrity sightings indulging on Planet Sushi's fine foods.
Planet Sushi is a convenient sushi place with great service and a lot of seating therefore waiting in line is not common. The food and decor are both just ok but for a quick place to eat it is great.

Nothing exciting in terms of atmosphere or interior, but decent sushi that is good for late night. There is an outside cafe during the nice weather, which means never having to worry about a wait!

This place is great. Good miso soup, great vegetarian sushi, and wonderful Japanese tea. Their service is also enviable. I had come into the area to see a play and wanted some food fast, so I asked for sushi, soup, and tea and they gave it to me in plenty of time and it only cost about $10.

If you are looking for some great sushi at a great price. The best California rolls in tv U.S.

I arrived here strictly for a light business lunch. This included me, myself and I, where I had to check voicemail, make phonecalls and grab a bite to eat. I was happily surprised. Complimentary wine/sake with my meal, and the service was attentive and excellent. My sderver made some excellent recommendations, was very polite and the food came out promptly. I had the Sharons' roll and considering myself quite a "sushi connoisseur" I did not expect this. OHhhh, delicious tuna wrapped, crunchy orange seaweed outside, with lobster meat peeking out from underneath along with fresh melt-in-your-mouth avocado. Simply heaven.
Pros: Everything!!

Planet is very simple. It has no gimmicks, it's not trendy, it's just some of the best sushi in the city in a lovely quiet room. Your best is sushi here, but the cooked dishes are also quite good. Lunch is a spectacular bargain; every bit as good as dinner at a fraction of the price. Service can be uneven, but it is always friendly and polite. The chirashi is especially good - chef's choice of sashimi arranged on perfectly cooked and seasoned sushi rice. Well worth it for both lunch and dinner, and a close runner-up to Yasuda in quality.

the quality of the fish is bad and so was the service.(the waiter is not attentive at all).............
Cons: bad service

I've been eating at Planet Sushi for years now and the sushi is CONSISTENTLY good. I actually work at a high end sushi restaurant in Manhattan and their fish is of equal quality at literally HALF the price (shhhh, don't tell my boss!). Some advice: order sashimi - you get 2 pieces for the same price of 1 piece of sushi. Also try: Tango Roll, Rainbow Roll, and the TriStar Roll (a frequent special) - all are delicious. For dessert , go for the flaming red bean ice cream tempura. Finally, service and management has been nothing but helpful and friendly in all my many lunch and dinner visits. This place is nothing fancy, but it's fresh fish and low prices have kept me coming back weekly.
Pros: Fresh Sashimi, Inventive Rolls, Flaming Ice Cream, Service, VALUE
Cons: Decor is pretty lame & food from the kitchen is average - Go for the awesome sushi!!

What would you do if you saw flies landing on the prepared sushi at the sushi bar? My 9 yr old daughter saw this and pointed it out to our table of 6, we all looked in shocked surprise. The sushi chef noticed us looking and saw the flies as well and attempted to shoo them away...not remake it the sushi?... Then a waitress came by and also shooed away the flies and picked up the fly sushi to bring to a table....I thought thank goodness it isnt ours...WELL IT WAS...THE WAITRESS PICKED UP THE ORDER AND WALKED IT AROUND THE RESTUARANT AND CAME TO OUR TABLE! Like I wouldnt notice.
Pretty ballsy behavior I thought and when I pointed out I wasnt going to eat it the manager and waitress both seemed not to be able to speak English and didnt understand why. I was with someone who spoke Japanese but neather of the employees were Japanese. Well we walked out never to return. What an insult to try to trick a customer to eat something disgusting.
Pros: Convenient
Cons: Flies on the sushi.

If you want a cheap, quick bite, and you're really hungry--go here. You'll probably like it just fine. If you want good sushi, don't go. I eat sushi all over this city every week. I went here once and never went again--even though it's close to home. The fish seemed almost as if it had been frozen, and the rice was subpar. Quality rice is key in sushi--any place that skimps on that can't really make it up from there.
Pros: quick and cheap
Cons: the sushi

My husband and I went for a quick dinner. We went on our bikes and one of the servers helped us with our locks! Great value for the amount of food we had. Bill came only to $30 and we were stuffed!

Lunch special is a lot of food. 3 rolls, soup and salad for something lik $8.75. Outside seating is nice in good weather and the staff was attentive. Sushi was good but nothing to write home about. The pieces were small but the fish was good quality and there wasn't a lot of rice to mess with. Soup and salad were both good. Would do take-out again for lunch.
Pros: Quality sushi, Inexpensive
Cons: Nothing fancy

Check this place out...no big deal. The tuna is a bit gray. Good thing I only order a piece of that. The beef soba is below par. Chewy beef and overcooked soba. The soup base is on the bland side.
Pros: Convenient Location
Cons: Sushi, Soba

At a time when many restaurants seem more focused on image than on food, Planet Sushi breaks the trend by offering quality sushi in an unpretentious and spacious environment with an extraordinarily attentive staff. The sushi pieces are perfectly sized (plump and meaty, but not so obnoxiously large that the pieces needs to be broken in two...another inexplicable trend - restaurants have recently confused size with quality). It is undoubtedly the best sushi restaurant on the UWS and it also can hold its own (quite nicely, in fact) against the premier sushi restaurants in NYC...at about a quarter of the price
Pros: Fast service, Spacious
Cons: Odd decor

If you go to dine at Planet Sushi, expect to eat a delicious meal. Everything is well prepared. The service is wonderful and everyone is friendly and attentive. It is a great place to bring family & friends. Both the sushi and the kitchen foods are out of site or should I say out of this world!

Good sushi for the UWS. EXCELLENT service (speed, courtesy, etc.). Very laid back and comfortable atmosphere.
Pros: Service, Atmosphere

I have previously ordered take out sushi several months ago and it was delicious so I decided to dine in. Both the sushi and the kitchen food were mediocere at best. I would not recommend the hot sauce but the salad was good. There are many better places to get sushi in NYC.
Pros: Good service
Cons: Average sushi

Planet Sushi is one of the most serene restaurants I have ever eaten at. You will love the environment and the service. The management of this establishment should get a standing ovation. They seat you promptly and they are always quick to tend to your needs.
Pros: Great management, Friendly environment, Very romantic
Cons: Parking, Always packed

The sushi here is highly overrated. The pieces are average-sized, and frequently chewy or stringy. Clearly, the quality of the fish is not that great. Decent atmosphere, but when there are other places right down the block, why not go somewhere else?
Pros: usually an open table
Cons: fish not fresh

I've had Planet Sushi delivered a couple of times and I've really enjoyed it. I went on-site for the first time last night and I left disappointed. The service was pretty slow, our food took forever to arrive at our table, we got the wrong order, and it wasn't even that good. It's too bad, because I really like the ambience of the place. I'll still give it another try, though.

Great everyday sushi that's surprisingly affordable and high quality. While it's no Tomoe, it has very good quality, spacious seating and sidewalk tables. Usually sushi is so expensive you eat it sparingly, but this changes the equation.
Pros: Affordable, Quality, Variety

Roaming the upperwest side and hungry? Stop here for great sushi, solid service, and if its warm, the outdoor deck offers good people watching.
Planet Sushi will never do you wrong.

Impatient & hungry boyfriend, ran across the street. So we ate here & were very happy. Service was good & so was the food.
Pros: accommodating, not pushy
Cons: offered bad table 1st
