I had a 30th Birthday party for my sister over the weekend in the VIP area. From the time we arrived the staff was very helpful and attentive from Chris the Manager to our waitress Jen, the busboys, bouncer, and our event planner Nikki.

My sister had a blast, the food was great, and all of my guests had no problem getting in. I have had several parties at different clubs around the city and this is one of the rare times that there were no problems or drama. I will definitely have a party here again!!

We had our annual halloween party at Katra and it was amazing! There were several other party happening that night in the club and I was concerned at first that we wouldn't all work well together, but I was completely wrong. The crowd was fun and friendly and looking to enjoy the night! The staff was so nice and not rude at all like most bars. They got us our drinks fast and the dj played all the right music! It was a great halloween!

I had my Halloween party at Katra last night for the second time. Chris and his team are great, always take great care of my friends and me! The ambience is perfect for a party! I will definitely be back next year for sure!

Ya know, you never believe any review until it's your own.. So I never had a birthday party for myself (believe it or not..) and it's was going to be my 30th so after some getting over myself I decided to have one. I had been to KATRA a few times before and it always struck me as a place I could bring any o...f my many friends to, so I decided on going with them. From the beginning, the Manager (Chris) was very direct and to the point (helpful when trying to organize your own party) and his staff was on point with everything from the decor, the bottle service, the DJ (soooo crucial...), to my guests entering the club. I didn't get one complaint from my party (81+) , and the rest of the crowd there was just soooo much fun.. My money was well spent (trust me!!). KATRA will definitely be a mainstay in my Saturday Nights-to-come

I had my NYC Premiere of my film TRUTH UNSPOKEN there and I can not tell you great they worked with me. Chris the manager is AMAZING. Everyone Loved the drinks, the food, the DJ's are wonder and the whole vibe over all is Great! I would do another event at KATRA anytime. If you are looking for a place to go in there city Katra is a place where you should put at the top of your list!

Katra is a great lounge/club/restaurant. The food was excellent and their crab cakes are to die for. The staff are very accomodating and friendly. Katra is organize and well run, from the bouncer at the door to the waitress and waiter. I attented Katra for the Truth Unspoken movie premier and they did everything in their power to keep their guest happy for ex.. There were so many people for the movie premier that they showed the movie upstairs and downstair just to make sure everyone got to see it. There is also a parking lot around the corner and you get a discount if you get your card stamped at the door.

When u see reviews for Katra u always think they are blown up or it?s the club doing it. But after our party here on Friday Night I have to agree they are pretty accurate . Doorstaff friendly, Manager Very Friendly and Very attentive. Waitstaff wonderful and polite, bartenders quick and prompt and music sick!!! Great venue even though gets a little packed for about an hour which like anywhere in NYC is common. Drinks are a bit pricey but if you are not paying cover then it balances out. As a whole a very good night besides the terrible weather so today I give Katra five stars. I will be back!!

So i did my birthday at Sin Sin on the 4th and had a great time. So we went back this wknd but all of their sections were sold out, so the GM told us to visit Katra....Great time and Great Party. We got a table here last night and to say we were taken care of is an understatement. We did a two Goose spec for $500 and then Chris the manger or owner (I am not sure) bought us another one! OMG i was like its because we are SUPER HOT chicas! lol all my friends got in no problem (even the guys didnt have to pay!!) and the music was sick. Beautiful crowd and a greta time! Now i have 2 fave places in the LES! YAY ME!

ive never been to a club where the bouncer at the door doesnt give you a hard time. that is until last night! i came in early with a friend so we had no issues getting in even though there was a list. at around 11:30 i asked the girl at the door if it would be ok for 10 of my friends to join us even though we had no list. she said that she would ask the manager and would see if we had room to create me a guest list so my friends could get in for free. 2 minutes later i was speaking with the manager, chris, and he totally took care of us!

we had a blast drinking downstairs at the bar and dancing to the great music the DJ was playing.

i'm definitely coming back here!

i helped my best friend plan his birthday party at taj this saturday and "due to building issues" we had to move our party. the reservationist called us and told us that their capacity was 75 people!! we thought we were screwed but then she offered to send us to their other club katra. she offered us a free table and a free bottle of champagne for all of our troubles and we also got to invite more people. she was really nice and made us feel like everything was going to be alright.

my best friend had the BEST time ever and is probably nursing a nasty hangover right now. they really took care of us and made sure everything was perfect. even though we had originally planned to go to taj everything worked out in the end and we had a great night.

Decided to have my girlfriend'a birthday party here Friday night. It was my first time at Katra and could not have asked for a better experience. The staff and the manager, in particular, were the best of hosts. Got a table and a couple bottles, which I highly recommend. Our table was never short on glasses, napkins, mixers, etc. The appetizers were delicious, in particular the little lamb kabob things. Atmosphere was fun and unpretencious. I also recommend a table if you have a large party so you have a nice ittle piece of real estate for your friends to enjoy. Music may vary night to night, but the mix of old school hiphop, top 40 and 80's was just the ticket and a nice change from the "unce unce unce" you hear at some lounges or big room clubs. I highly recommend it to anyone, espcially for parties. The staff treats you like you're crew. Thanks.

I went to a semi private party here 2 weeks ago. The party was scheduled for 8pm. I was running a little late so I got there at 8:30pm. Come to find that I'm the very first one there. Even the hosts of the party had not made it there yet. The owner, Chris, then said to me, "Don't you know women by now? You know they want you to wait!" He then bought me a drink on the house and the night was all set.

Our group got the Moroccan fries, which were really really good. Maybe I was just starving or whatever, but they were really good. We also got chicken, if I remember, which was also really good.

Chris was really accommodating, and he even joined our party for a few minutes at a time. And whenever we needed something, he was like "johnny on the spot." If you needed a place to sit, he would get a chair from the closet. If you had a cigarette, he had a lighter. If you coughed, he had a lozenge. You can't ask much more from an owner.

We will def make it back the next time we are in town!!

Let me just start by saying, my husband and I had the wedding of our dreams at Katra! I'de also like to mention, none of the guests have stopped talking about how great the night was. Chris, the manager, was a godsend! He absolutely would not allow me to lose my mind, which brides-to-be often do or so I've been told :) Because we were planning our wedding from Floida, I was concerned about the details. The evening was incredible, I had nothing to worry about! The dj was super cool and the belly dancers were fantastic! The food was really good and the staff was so friendly. The place was beautiful when we walked in. We cannot say enough good things about Chris, his staff, Katra! We love it! PS- Can we rate higher than 5 stars?

Katra is the hottest spot in Downtown NYC. It is absolutely gorgeous inside and the staff is fantastic. Their service is A+ and everyone is treated like a VIP. If you want a real NYC lounge to host your next party or you want an intimate spot to take a date or go with friends, than Katra is for you. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is phenominal and the location keeps it real. Katra is one of the few jewels left in New York. You will not be sorry you went there!

We threw a charity event here last week in their downstairs room and with Chris' (the manager) help, it was a complete success. The atmosphere, candles, furniture, everything make for the perfect classy setting. The food isn't half bad either, especially the spiced beef patties. I even left my jacket there the night of the event and Chris called me to tell me something had been found. I def recommend this place for an event!

Getting on the list was super easy - just called up and didn't have to pay cover ;-) Best music I have heard in a long time --- it's like the DJ knew exactly what song I wanted to hear next! Seriously, I thought he couldn't get better and each time he did! The drinks were great... the crowd was awesome too --- the dancing was great; beautiful people everywhere... it was the best night on Saturday...

Just celebrated my 26th birthday at Katra. Cannot say enough good things. I spoke with Chris, the owner, a few days prior to the party. He answered all of my questions, told me about all of my options. Our waitress, Chelsa, was AMAZING! If you can request her, do! She was sooo accommodating, patient, and sweet. I wasn't sure if they would allow me to bring a cake, but Chris was completely welcoming to it, without a charge!!!! Usually places in NY charge you a plating fee. They didn't plate the cake, but they did bring it out with candles, and provided all the silverware. It was perfect -exactly what I wanted. After 11 the place turns into a lounge/club, and it was definitely happening and packed by 12. Sooo, soooo much fun. Have your party here, it'll be a night to remember!

I've been throwing a huge birthday party every year for the past four years and, simply, Katra has done the best job of ensuring I had the best time. From the day I booked, I was thoroughly impressed by the level of communication between the events coordinator and myself. They crossed every "T" and dotted every "I", and this allowed me to just worry about getting to the lounge and partying when the night came.

At the door, the owner Chris, personally greeted us and wished us well before we were escorted to our tables, and told us if we had any problems we could come see him personally. There were absolutely NO problems as the hostess ensured we were having fun and anything we needed she provided. Not only was the party package set at a great price, but they delivered on everything they said they would before the party. There was no confusion with our tables, there were no mishaps with the prices of our package, every single person on my guest list was granted complimentary entry, and the staff was the most professional I've seen.

Too often, club owners forget that their patrons are the reason they exist, and in a place like NYC there are a million other places to go if the service is anything less than great. Chris and his staff CLEARLY understand the value of great customer service and the loyalty it builds. I will undoubtedly go back to Katra in the very near future, and I recommend Katra to anyone looking for a great party experience...Thanks guys!

I have been going to KATRA every week since they opened 3 years ago, but this past Saturday was the first time I ever had my birthday party there. It was a few of my family members and some close friendsand from start to finish everything was perfect. The food was superb, the drinks were great, and the music and atmosphere was second to none. My family and I want to thank Chris the owner for taking care of us, we can't wait to do it again.

So I planned my birthday party originally at BLVD and went through a real horrific racial ordeal which began with BLVD not fulfilling my contract with them. Chris, from Katra took my group in at the last minute and literally turned my night around! He did not hesitate to briefly inform his staff that they had to do everything in their power to turn my night around and to make sure that I walk out of his Lounge a happy birthday girl! I am so grateful for the professionalism and the courtesy that came with his staff. Not only did Chris take over my group, he offered a terrific bottle service to match what I had already PRE-PAID BLVD, and threw in a bottle of Champagne for the birthday girl! This goes above and beyond customer service. Chris and his staff at Katra had the WOW factor! And to make things better.. the DJ was from POWER 105!!! I will definitely return to Katra!!!!

My friends and i celebrated our thirtieth birthday at Katra and we loved every minute. the music was good, the staff was cool. The whole idea of the bracelet for unlimited alcohol for two hours worked out perfectly. This Club was the place to be on June 20, 2009. everybody that we invited loved the spot. Chris the club manager was world class. He hooked us up! The DJ shouted us out non stop. Dont take my word for it go see it for yourself

3 of my friends and I decided to throw our birthday shindig at Katra last weekend, and we are all so happy that we chose this place! We had a great time with 70+ of our closest friends. Chris, the manager, made it so easy for us to just enjoy ourselves from start to finish. Music was great. Good looking people all around. Only complaint I got was that it took a little long to get drinks at the bar since the place got packed. Thanks again, Katra. We'll definitely be back

Stopped by the Cougar party at Katra and had a great time. I think it was the first prty so it wasn't too crowded but the people were definitely quality. Everyone was having a great time, very respectful. Ladies, if you want to meet lots of cool, down to earth, hot guys this is the place!

Went to the Cougars Party on Sunday night at Katra on Bowery. Very nice place. Atmosphere is great, drinks were really good, really GOOD!! The ladies were very nice looking. They didn't look like Cougars to me at all. Enjoyed the appetizers, with there Apple Martinis. The owner Chris was very welcoming. I will be back this Sunday with more of my friends.

My friend dragged me out on a Sunday but I'm glad I came out. Staff was good and the drinks were strong! The cougars were there and looking great. They were even promoting a reality tv show about cougars. I also tried some new liquor called Rhythm . Perfect way to spend a Sunday. See u there next week!

Went to a COUGARS party yesterday night. Had a great time! New liquor called Rhythm had a nice open bar and there were some nice OCUGARS there!! lol People were still coming in as I was leaving around 11 so the party does pick up especially for a Sunday night. They will do even better once the weather gets nicer too I would recommend this place!!! Glad the cougar party is a weekly thing too!!!! lol

Had a birthday party bringing about 40-50 guests. Must give props to Chris, the general manager. He was a man of his word and everything he promised, was provided. From service, to drinks, to no cover, and no wait for friends/guests, the night went smoothly and without a hitch. I won't say just how much he hooked me up, but Chris takes good care of his customers. I dropped a good amount here, and even more with friends, but it's definitely worth the trip, for a party, or even just to chill with friends.

I was VIP for my little brothers 21st. I got in contact with Chris through my party planner and he made sure I was comfortable and gave me confidence having the party @ Katra was the place to be.

I was served by Blair who was great all night long and kept my table full and made sure we were loaded with all our mixers cups etc all night long. She was great. The bus boy was also up numerous time to keep the table/floor all mopped up so it was clean and non slippery all night.

Crowd is 21-30 divers and attractive. The setting is all dark lots of black and red, If your throwing a party you needa go VIP the place get crowded as the night goes. However your goin with 2-4 friends this place is still great crowd/scene and can deal with squeezing through the crowd.

Price on drinks? IDK I just bought bottles :). Also got a hookah witch was a change for me. Never had a hookah in a bar. It was smooth and tasted great.

Definably recommend Katra Lounge to anyone.

From booking it with the owner to the end of the party when the owner brought me a bottle of champagne for my birthday.....Katra was wonderful. Yes it is busy and there is that period where its overcrowded but it was that time where everybody arrives at the same time. Christine the waitress was great and none of my crowd had a hard time getting in. No lines or cover which is wonderful and you know the personal attention was just all there, I wish all places were like this and I will definately tell my friends to come here

Ok, So I did my 30th here on Saturday. The manager (Chris) was great, although he was very busy on Sat night. When we first arrived my friend and I had to wait by the door while my waitress came out to show us our table and take my credit card. Personally I feel there should be a seperate hostess with the doorpeople for that purpose. Also, some of my guests had a hard time getting in, even though I had a party going on...this should never happen, people who have parties should not have friends waiting outside and told that they need to take a walk around for a few mins, while they let a swarm of others in. However, when I spoke to Chris, he let my people in, though, I was still frustrated. At first I was not happy sitting in the front by the coat check, but when I thought about it, the crowd in the back would have frustrated me more than people coming back and forth for their coats. I was not happy with the crowd, the music was ok, lots of hip hop that night, old school stuff...they should change up the DJ...I was under the impression the crowd and music was more diverse...but it wasnt...I wasn't happy with my events coordinator either, she was very rude to me on a couple occasions, and personally I was about to cancel here just because of her. However, the waitress (Christina) was magnificant, Chris was very nice. The bottle service prices are a bit outrageous considering all of the above. I was quoted something less by one of the events people, and then they tried to charge me something different, not once but twice...in the end, however, they stuck to the deal, which was still ridiculous considering, and definitely not worth EVERY penny. I say, come here before a big event such as 30th, and see for yourself on the exact day you are planning it for. If I wouldve done that, I wouldn't have come here. But I made the most of it, because if you don't your entire night can be ruined. Lastly, to Katra's credit, I do like the follow-up, and I will be calling shortly to let them know how it all went.

A friend made arrangements for me to have my 45th birthday celebration @ Katra. I've heard of it, but never set my foot in the door until Valentine's Day evening. And what a pleasant surprise! As an interior designer the first thing I look at is the decor & layout, and it was niceIy done. A very cozy and sultry atmosphere. I had approximately 60 people throughout the evening, and Chris (the manager) did everything possible to accomodate me and my group. After paying what I thought a reasonable price, we were stationed in the V.I.P. lounge, and the rest was beautiful history. My friends were able to eat, drink, dance, and lounge. The waitresses were extremely attentive and the attitude of all the other staff members was very pleasant and helpful.

My only frown was when trying to order several bottles of "house" champagne they were out and I was offered the next level, and lo and behold they were out of those. I was a bit annoyed but Katra redeemed itself by discounting the bottles I did purchase as well as giving me a bottle gratis. Also, I chose to pay cash for my night (it helped keep me on the straight & narrow), and our waitress was sweet, but could have used a bit more decorum when asking for the money since I did not use my credit card. The drinks were in my opinion, standard for New York City, so no surprises there. The menu had great appetizers, and just about all my friends ordered from the menu and were satisfied. It was just enough to tie them over for a few hours. Overall I would definitely recommend Katra to anyone looking to chill, have dinner, & drinks; or to anyone looking to set it off! I run an event series in NYC and have worked with dozens of venues. I love it when I come across a venue where the management and staff make the event a breeze. Absolutely everyone at Katra - Chris, Emily, Ismael, Mo - was professional, friendly and helpful. The venue also happens to be gorgeous - and the downstairs space, where we did our event, was ideal for a party of 100.

I have been going to Katra for quite a while now and have to say that this is an amazing venue!! This is a perfect location for birthdays, celebrations, reunions, corporate parties or night out with friends. I absolutely love everything about this place, the ambiance, the look, the food, the drinks and the music. The wait staff is one of the best I have ever experienced. We read all the great reviews before booking our office party, and to be honest were sold on KATRA even before we went to socpe out the location. Once inside we knew we had the right place;
Beautiful, Simple, Elegant, Mysterious and Divine. Wonderful from start to finish!
The staff bent over backwards to make sure we were all set for the best time possible. Everything was perfect. Drinks were exquisite. We chose the Lychee Martini and Morroccan Mojito as our signature cocktails, but in the end, the variety of different martini's and mixed drinks coming out of the bar was amazing!!! Both the Bar and Wait staff were great! And the FOOD?! - absolutely Scrumptious! Thank you Chef! Chris, the manager, knows exactly what it will take to make your party a success. Just let him know what you are after and he will look after you. He was onsite the entire time, popping in, making sure all was ok. He's a charmer! (ask him to make you his Irish Apple Martini....and don't forget to ask what makes it Irish!!) You are in good hands!! Sit back, grab a Lychee Martini, and enjoy! Cheers!

Myself and a few friends were in town for a party that was canceled at the last minute. We stumbled on Katra and had 1 hell of a time. Many good looking woman,not snobby as in most NYC bars,clubs and lounges and the female bartenders are totally nice and helpful at the same time. The coat check staff are very friendly and make you wanna go and have a blast. NONE of my belongings were lost and I didn't have to wait 5 minutes to get it. overall Katra is a great place and I suggest if you are reading this to check out the scene. GREAT MUSIC,DJ'S, STAFF, DRINKS AND FOOD. It was worth every penny

I had my birthday party at Katra last summer and it was one of the best places to have a party, for sure. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating. The best thing about Katra is they do not give you a hard time about having a large group - they really just want you to have a good time so there isn't any hassle about bottle service requirements, etc. DJ is on point on Saturday nights - great mix of hip hop, R&B, and pop. Decor is great and provides a nice ambiance for a party.

my friends and i were looking for a good time during the NYC blizzard last friday and we found it at katra. the music was fresh & fun, everyone acted their age and there was no attitude like at most clubs. A co-worker, a friend and I hosted 3 separate afterwork parties there last Friday at the same time. Everyone we have spoken with from the three groups have said that they had a great time. My contact person was Eddie, who was really a pleasure to deal with. Despite my many phone calls to ask questions, he was courteous on the phone every time I called and made sure I had all the information needed to host my event. At Katra, everyone from the bartenders to the coat check woman was extremely polite and accommodating. The venue is very nice, with a chic, upscale atmosphere without the attitude so many of the NY lounges have. It is really a nice venue to hold events and I highly recommend it. My friends and I were very well taken care of by Chris (owner) and the staff at Katra and I honestly don't see how any other venue could top the kind of service I received there. You're treated well from the moment you arrive at the door until you leave and you feel comfortable and appreciated.

I hosted a young alumni holiday event @ Katra last Saturday for a group of ~125 people on the first floor. EVERYONE, from the owner (Chris) to the bouncers, was extremely accommodating and professional! A lot of times you bring large groups to a place and management treats you as if they could care less. This is DEF not the deal at Katra. All of my guests had no hassle getting in and not attitude at the door or while at the event. Our group had an amazing time and it was thanks to all the staff at Katra. I would definitely plan another event here whether it be a small or large group. It feels great to walk into a place and get treated they way you deserve to be . Toooo many places in NYC forget that.

The night turned ugly when one of the servers attending to a table began pushing extremely hard to get through the crowd. She pushed several people in my presence including me. And this was not a slight bump that occurs when someone passes you in a crowded setting, this was a hard full-on pushing with deliberate uncalled for contact. I said something to her initially but she ignored me until I pushed her back, after yet another intentional, unwarranted physical contact from her, and understandably she was upset. She vocalized her anger and I had no remorse. I asked her if she thought it was ok to continually push me and her response was that I was in her way. Obviously the words excuse me or pardon me were not in her vocabulary. When I told her she should have said something instead of put her hands on me she walked away.
Unbeknownst to me, she reported it to a bouncer who came over and asked me why I pushed the young lady and I explained the situation to him. His response was not that I was in the wrong for pushing the waitress back, but rather that I should not have stood in the place where I was standing (close to the bar). I told him there were no signs to tell me that this was a pushing zone or that patrons standing there are at risk of being assaulted. All the waitress had to say was ?hey guys, could you please clear this area? and we would have happily obliged. Realizing that he was not talking to a moron who would be intimidated he got aggressive and came too close to my face, close enough for me to smell his dinner. This was offensive contact in my book, so I called him an __hole. He told me I could leave if I didn?t like it and I told him I would gladly leave after speaking with the manager. He tried to usher me out with his body and told me speak to the manager at the door. Of course, I refused.

We had a wonderful time here for my Daniel's party. The music was great and my waitress was wonderful and very attentive. The drinks were a little pricey but there was no cover so it balanced. The bartenders were great including Roxy and we partied all night. The food was tastey including this dish called a Tagine which is great with Fries. I wish all the other customers were as friendly as the staff but there are always some princess who thinks she is better then everyone else and we were next to one who did put a damper on the evening as she abused everyone around her until we had to get security to get her out. Katra overall was great and we will be back
P.S it does get crowded but what do you expect

I brought a very mixed group of about 25 people to Katra last night and a great time was had by all... Our original birthday plans had fallen through and we were scrambling for a place that would take a group that large without prior arrangements. There was no door drama, no pretense, good music, great staff, and a warm welcoming vibe. The staff was so accommodating and friendly! They did everything they could to get us a table and make us comfortable even though they were booked solid and what we were asking was next to the impossible. If you just want to have a good time with good people, this is the place to go. And if you work at it, you might even get a hug or a dance out of the manger Chris, who I thank for the champagne :)

I picked Katra for my birthday party a few months ago based on positive buzz from friends and this website, and was not disappointed. In fact, I was thoroughly impressed with Katra and I highly recommend it to others. They happily accepted my party reservation with no pretense and asked for no reserve or cover. My guests were politely welcomed at the door with no hassle whatsoever and directed to the larger group at the bar. Drinks were great and the music too. Nice scene with a good crowd. This is the place for a no-fuss party that everyone is sure to enjoy.

We arrived without booking and the manager let us in no problem and was very nice about it. He did warn me it would be busy and told me he would hook me up at Taj if it was not to my liking. It was and we had so much fun and the music was great. The bartenders were so nice and polite to us and what made my night was the manager guy hunted me down and bought a bottle of champagne for me for my birthday. On November 1st I celebrated my 35th Bday Bash in the VIP section. I was referred by someone who attended Dweles listening party months prior. Katra has a very warm and relaxing vibe. The crowd was very diverse and live which is one of the things that I really liked. The atmosphere itself is very chic, relaxing and eclectic. It has a unique blend of great food, an awesome dj and just an overall great vibe. The wait staff was accommodating and extremely courteous. Myself along with all of my guests had a great time. Me & my team of 14 chose this venue in hopes of attracting the maximum number of people from our combined guest lists; Katra's cool Moroccan vibe was THE perfect place. Our space in the lower level was roomy & versatile for lounging & for our vocal & dance performers; the lighting was intimate and chic. The entire staff was super helpful, friendly & FUN; this made our event "legit" and helped everything go smoothly. Out of all the many lounges in NYC, I decided to celebrate my 21st birthday at Katra. It was truly one of the greatest, most memorable experiences. The decor is beautiful, the people were friendly and there was great music all night long. The drinks were a little pricey but if looking at the average in the City, it wasn't bad at all. Overall, it was one of the best nights I've had in a long time and I definitely attribute part of that to the wonderfully, awesome Christopher (hard to miss with his big smile, and cute Irish accent) who made sure we were taken care of. If you're having a hard time deciding where to celebrate an occasion, or just hang out with friends - pick Katra. You won't regret it.

First, let me say I thought there was something fishy going on with all these good reviews! But I can definitely believe them because I also had a very good experience at Katra, which has prompted me to come and write a review.

My 2 friends and I felt like going out, getting a bottle and listening to good music, so at the recommendation of another friend we chose Katra. I set up the reservation and upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly door staff one of whom was the owner, Christopher. We were promptly escorted to our table where the waitress gave us great service. She checked on us often and the bussers kept our table clean and fully stocked.

I was totally feeling DJ Commish. He kept the party going all night and played a good variety of hip hop, R&B and he splashed in a little pop, plus some blasts from the past. Actually towards the end of the bottle :-) me and my friend got the idea that we wanted to meet the DJ and I sent a text to Christopher to ask if we could meet him. Within a minute he had sent someone to take us up to meet the DJ.

The reason I give this place such rave reviews is because (1) the decor is great. It's really classy and I'm a fan of the Mid Eastern theme (2) The service is very good. I've had my fair share of table experiences. Many times they're unorganized at the door, they take forever to bring what you want or something else equally annoying--but here they had it together from start to finish. Also, it really helps that they get the concept that you are a customer coming to buy a positve experience and a bottle of vodka at their establishment rather than many clubs that somehow have it twisted and think they're doing YOU the favor. I felt that they genuinely wanted us to have a good time and enjoy ourselves. (3) Good DJ...this is a big part of the experience. Gotta have a good soundtrack to the night.

So, that's my review. 2 thumbs up :-)

I have to say when I think of New York lounges, you would think they would be stuck up owners or people that don't give you any options when you need help with something. Katra is absolutely nothing like that! I organized my friend's 21st Birthday here and it was absolutely perfect. Mark went beyond his way to accommodate us and he made us feel like we were VIP. I had a group of about 20 people and not one of them complained. The lounge itself is designed really well and is very classy. The food and drinks were really good and the service was great. Our waitress Celeste was extremely nice considering she had to cover so many people and she would always come around and check on us, which is hard when there's about 50/60 people asking for drinks. The hookah was a bit pricey but it was extremely smooth and it lasted a long time. Throughout the whole night Mark was working his hardest to accommodate so many people and you can tell he did to truly satisfy us. Chris, the owner, is the coolest guy. He was also great with us and was able to help me out with making sure my friends birthday went smoothly. Thanks to Mark, Chris, Celeste, and Waleed. You all made the night memorable and my friend loved her 21st birthday. This is my first time reviewing on citysearch and citysearch was were I heard about Katra; I was hesitant at first if all the reviews were legit but after coming here and experiencing it I can tell they are all real.

The owner is this funny Irish Guy who has this funny accent and makes everyone laugh. He gets away with murder. But he did promise that my party would have a great night and we did! I am use to going to places where the line is long, the service is average and the doormen are rude and I have never had a reason to write a review because it really was not worth it!! I hearby make the exception on Katra. First we had booked our party accross the street and it was only ok. My friend went accross the road to check out Katra and came back and said the place was jumping. We went to the door with six guys and four girls and were asked what party we were with which I thought was the end of this adventure. We said none and were then told by the doorman that dont worry about it the owner will be out in a second and he will take care of us. He came out and with his little cute English accent invited us in. When in there one of my friends decided he wanted to do a bottle because it was pretty busy. As there was no cover we put our cash togeather and got a table downstairs. The music was rockin and was a mix of everything which suited everyone. people were so nice here from the staff to the people at all the other parties. We were having a wonderful night when the owner sent over a bottle of champagne to us for the birthday girl which I thought was so nice. On the whole it is so refreshing to be in a place that lacks all that snobbery of most clubs. Will be back

To the owner & staff of Katra,

I just wanted to express the excellent service and fantastic hospitality that was shown to us on that night. Everyone in the party had an incredible time and I loved the decor, vibe, and atmosphere of the overall club. It is SO refreshing to find such a beautiful place to be unpretentious and FUN.

The owner was obliging & charming, the waitresses definately did an excellent job in meeting & exceeding our needs, and the bartenders made sure that all my friends were taken care of and treated respectfully. Mark also did an excellent job of seamlessly hosting Rex & Wendi\'s party.

Being frequent club goers, we definately had high expectations and Katra truly exceeded them.

I just wanted to send my personal thanks to the owners, waitresses, DJ, and bartenders who helped make my friend\'s birthday such a memorable experience.

Katra's sleek atmosphere couldn't have been more suitable for the Friday night professional work crowd. Assorted Flavors Ent. promotes the Afterwork Experience on Friday, which NYC Professionals seem to gravitate to.

This past weekend, I held my Purple Carpet Affair to celebrate my 21st birthday party (**Purple Kisses**) at this club and it was GREAT. All my guest got in without a problem, the owner Chris is SO professional as is his bouncer Al. The bartender assigned to my party for the night was good in making sure my guests were comfortable and that our drinks were always full. The music was great, the ambiance of the club itself is breathless.

I also ordered from their menu which was very good and not too expensive. I would encourage ANYONE to have a party or event here. I can tell that the management has been in the business for a while as he was very knowledgeable. It was an amazing time, it's Tuesday and people are posting on my Facebook STILL about how much they enjoyed my birthday party at KATRA.

I threw my partner a surprise birthday party here on August 9th and it was a fantastic event and venue. The staff was first class and attentive, the VIP section was encased in glass and gorgeous, Chris was accommodating and didn't miss a beat while working with us. I recommend Katra to lounge goers looking for a great dj and good food!

not only was katra the perfect venue, manager Chris Irish :) was the perfect host!!! he made sure everything went so smoothly the entire night. i threw my little sister's 21st birthday party there, this is what she said: "it was the perfect location. the venue: really nice. really trendy. the bouncers: even nicer. no fuss at the door, everyone got in, and the DJ even gave me a birthday shout out! the drinks: AMAAAZING-- they have this lychee martini that's sweet and delicious but potent! (it definitely does the trick.) the music: perfect-- lots of hip-hop, dance/pop, and rap-- i was able to dance the night away, literally! the crowd: hott, trendy, out to have a good time... and in no way bougie. i definitely celebrated my 21st the way it was supposed to be celebrated. anyone having a party and tryna find a place to do it, i most definitely recommend KATRA!!"

I just threw a surprise Birthday Party for my husband at Katra and it turned out amazing! Everyone loved the place, the food and especially the bellydancer!! Katra staff and Kris (manager) were great in working with me from planning my event to making sure everything went smoothly the night of....
If you are looking to plan a private party on a budget and concerned about everyone having a good time then Katra is the place!!! Trust me, I did alot of legwork trying to find the perfect place and am thrilled I went with Katra!

Second year in a row had my party here and its amazing how not one thing has changed. Great service, drinks and food and the bellydancer was beautiful. DJ cranked out the tunes and we had a choice. We did some btls late night which are way cheaper then most places. New door guy is nice but the Irish owner is as charming as ever. Celeste amazing addition to place and very cute. I've hosted my birthday party at Katra several times, and I have never been disappointed. As a New Yorker, it is surprisingly tricky to find a good venue for parties. Many lounges in Manhattan are filled with socially awkward people, including creepy guys that make me and my girlfriends feel really uncomfortable. But Katra is always filled with young people my age who want to have a good time. The DJ is always impressive, with awesome mixes of hip hop and dance music. The service is incredible and the waiters/waitresses really try to meet all the demands. And, last but not least, Chris (the manager) is the best!!!

We came for dinner here for my wife?s birthday on Friday Night and were very happy with Katra. The food was beautiful and timely. Our waitress was very attentive and mannerly. The cocktails are unique and tasty with their Pomegranate martini going down very well. The Lamb Tagine is out of this world by the way. All together a perfect evening.

We were out last night in the city and came across a club called Katra on the Bowery. Everybody in the neighborhood had lines and were telling us no entry for our group of twenty. My girlfriend was getting upset because we could get in no where all private parties we were told and then there was Katra. We walked up to the door with our group and were told the same thing that it was all private parties and then this Irish guy came up to us and told us to come back in forty five minutes and that he would make sure that we would get in. He then called another bar around the corner and told them that we his friends and to take care of us until he could get us in.
We went back to Katra at 12 and immediately as the doorman was telling us that they were full I heard this Irish guy shout through the door that he promised us entry and he was a man of his word and we were let in.
It made out night as we all had so much fun and to our surprise all the staff were so nice. The bartender "Chris oh so cute" bought my girlfriend a drink for her birthday and Mark who was a doorman kept checking on us as he under instructions to make sure we were happy. We were all amazed as we had not even booked. The drinks are nice and this place is a little pricey but when we did not pay cover it all adds up. The lounge itself has two levels and the crowd was mixed and friendly. The dj was ok and miss but we were told the usual guy was on holiday and he was great. I will definitely come back here and all my friends were so happy so this is my new favorite place.

I had my birthday party in the downstairs area at Katra and it was an awesome night. We got a bottle and reserved a few couches and the service was great. We never had to wait for anything and the owner Chris personally made sure that we were having a good time; his staff is great. I invited over 100 people and everyone got in without a problem as they don't keep people waiting outside unless the place is full. The crowd was good and there was just the perfect amount of people there as you could easily dance and talk to each other yet the place was still busy. The best part about the night was the music, as it kept us on our feet until the early hours of the morning. I definitely recommend Katra for anyone who wants a fun night out. Many of my friends from that night say they will be returning soon.

My birthday was June 15, and I wanted to bring all my friends together to party on Saturday night June 14th, I was so stressed out but CHRIS the manager handled it all, his team is awesome!!! I reserved 2 tables downstairs, ordered a couble bottles and invited about 25 people, they all had no problems getting in, we had the best service, our waitresses (michelle and a hot blonde i cant remember her name) were amazing, they kept coming down to check on us! Somehow the other people who reserved tables found out it was my birthday and they sent rounds of shots for me and all my girls, I am Jamaican and I was worried they wouldnt play reggae,,,, but again that was no problem, the DJ hooked us up and played some of my favorites,,,,,he played it all house, R&B, Hip Hop even techno. I would recommend this place to anyone!! Chris you are AMAZING!! Thanks for making my birthday a blast, my friends are still talking about it.

I had the greatest time ever here! Good crowd and music **Kid Rock's DJ was there** The food was tastey as well, and unlike most clubs it wasn't really hard to get in. I met the owner, Chris, and him and his staff are great! They make you feel like you are VIP even if you are not in VIP! I even tried hooka there, which was pretty cool. Over all good food, good service, GREAT PLACE!

I had my bday party at Katra last July and loved it. Chris was great in helping me coordinate everything, and the waitress was super nice and quick. Good customer service, good music, fun atmosphere. I had about 50 friends come in throughout the night and everyone had a good time. I'm going to have my party at Katra again in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to another fun night out!

I just went to Katra this Saturday night. We were in town for a bachelorette party. I reserved a VIP table for the eight of us, which was very easy to do over the phone. We showed up late for our reservation and they were very understanding. Fortunately we weren't that late, but the staff and manager did not hassle us at all about it. Then the worst thing happened, I realized I forgot my ID. Having been the one that made the reservation I was afriad that I was going to be denied access as well as lose the table for my friends. The manager and staff were very understanding and let me and my friends in. It was so wonderful!! Once inside the place is not only beautiful but very clean. We were brought right to our table and given out waitress for the night. She was very good and prompt with our drinks. The music was fantastic there as well. Only complaint I have is that when I went upstairs (since our table was downstairs) to check it out, I ordered a drink from the bartender up there. She not only gave me the wrong drink, but then was very rude to me when I said it was incorrect and I wasn't going to drink it.

Last but not least for those ladies out there, the bathrooms had NO LINES!!! Every time I wanted to use the facility I just walked right in and out. And it wasn't because the club wasn't crowded. They just have enough bathrooms to not have the line problem I guess. I know that was the icing on the cake for this place.

So if you are looking for a great club, with great music, impectable staff and well managed, I would say defintely check out Katra!

I'll be honest, hosting a party in new york city is kinda stressful. You want to have it at a cool place but you don't want to worry about people not being able to get in, rude bouncers, and it being too crowded. Katra was an absolutely phenomenal place to host a party. The waitresses were attentive, the music was hip, the crowd diverse, the bartenders were actually nice and chris the owner is awesome. I am not one to rave about clubs either, this is actually my first review but Katra really deserves it. I invited about 70 people and everyone had a great time. trust me, go and you won't be disappointed.

I had my birthday party at Katra on 4/19/08. My boyfriend and girlfriend reserved the VIP section for my event and we had a blast!!! The atmosphere, the service, and the attention from Chris, the OWNER was absolutely amazing. My guests entered with no problems and really enjoyed themselves. I could not have asked for a better DJ. I had a good mix of people and personalities, so the fact that he was able to satisfy everyone was more than a plus. I would definitely recommend Katra as a place to host your event or even just to chill. Thanks Chris, for running such a great business and making this birthday a memorable one for me.

My girlfriend and I have been to Katra for cocktails and light fare a few times, and have had nothing but great things to say about it. Staff is very gracious, friendly and make you feel at ease. Good drinks, great food, etc etc etc. But that's not what this review is about

When it came time for my girlfriends birthday party, what better a place than Katra. However, we didn't do much planning (we never called ahead to see if anything else was going on that night). So when the time came for the actual party. After the invites went out, after everyone had RSVPd. We arrive at Katra to find out that a charity event has booked the entire place for the night. Panic ensues, but who comes to the rescue?? Oh just the owner, Christopher, who proceeds to immediately make accommodation's for us downstairs, and informs his staff of our party, so as our friends and guests arrive the just tell the doorman and are escorted our party. He then sends a bottle of champagne over to wish my girlfriend Happy Birthday. It was a great night with great friends at a great lounge owned by a great guy. Thanks Chris!

I had a surprise party here over this past weekend. I have to say that Chris (the owner) made this extremely easy for me and set up the most perfect party for us. We had most of the downstairs. He let us decorate and bring in our own cake. The staff was amazing, really nice, and there were no problems what so ever. The downstairs is perfect for a big party and the upstairs is also really nice and cool with private booths. All in all this was one of the best parties i have thrown in New York City. I cannot possibly thank the staff enough for making this a great evening. Have your party at Katra, you will not regret it.

I did my research on Katra before I did my party here on Sat Nite and yes I found a little of what I read hard to believe. Great Service, Nice Doorman, Nice Crowd, Great Food, Good Music, Owner who personally takes care of you. Sure I said!!!!!!!!!! Well I am a believer now. Katra is all those things and more. Its a breath of fresh air for the nightlife industry in NYC and I so happy to report that this place when it comes to service puts all others to shame. And to top it off at the end of the night the owner came over to my girl and gave her a btl of champagne for her birthday without anyone of us telling then that that was why we were there. This place rocks in my book

After we were turned away from R Bar we went accross the road with our party to a bar we never heard of called Katra. First time there and what a difference a hundred yards makes. Were very polite and asked us what party we were with and then we were told we were turned away from Bar accross the street so Door Guy told me we would be going with the alcoholic party!!!! We got in and had a great time and enjoyed ourselves. Nice crowd and good vibe. Our night turned out good in the end and I am thanking Katra for that. We will come back

Recently, I threw a party at KATRA and (I must admit) it was the best party experience that I've had in a NYC club in a long time. Everyone from the club owner to the waitress and bathroom staff, were unbelievably helpful and kind. Plus, the ambiance is so hot. The layout and decor is top notch. I'm not too sure who the dj was that night, but he was completely on point! I absolutely recommend to anyone who considers themselves to be chic, hot, and festive. I'm pretty sure that won't be my last time at the new hot spot, KATRA.

Friendly door policy with respectful bouncers, great management, reasonable prices, great service, great decor, great music and so on... it's hard to find a flaw in this LES lounge/club. Threw a party for a group of roughly 25 here and I can't stop saying good things about this place! It was packed but not to the point of being uncomfortable.. we reserved an upstairs cabana that only required a two bottle minimum regardless of party size! Oh, did I mention this was for a Saturday night?! I will definitely be back for future events/parties.

Ask any of my friends where my fave spot in NYC to be is and they will immediately say KATRA. I've been here more than I care to divulge, and each time is great. The only thing is that they get more and more crowded each week, which you can take as good or bad. The DJ is always bangin and plays the latest hip hop tracks.

I've got to admit this is my first review on city search-and I am generally quite the critic-Katra is certainly on my list of places to go to on rotation for my weekly debauchery. Katra's striking morrocan themed ambience sets the tone for any queen to explore a night on the town-and for our Saturday night thrill-we expected none the less as it was my sister's birthday. We were greeted by the staff in quite the friendly upbeat manner and courtesy. The bartenders have an amazing personality to match- with killer cocktails that achieve the mission to destination FUN! To boot-rather than your usual scary and mean bouncers... these manly and masculine gentlemen were quite alert-but friendly and fun at the same time! We hosted a rather large 30th birthday party for a lounge/club with a guest list of over 100 people-and this WAS no private event- so naturally our line was out the door-which is our fault...HOWEVER-the door staff was equipped and friendly to make sure all were able to participate in this event. I thoroughly reccomend this location for a random night on the town and furthermore a venue to host an event.

Well first of all I was asked to write a review of Katra by the manager Chris if we had a good party and normally I would just say "sure" and do my thing! Well first of all the last I had a wonderful party at Katra on Sat night with excellent music, great waitress service and what I have to say was one of the most mixed parties I have ever seen. We got everything we were promised and more and I really wish more venues were like this. I am very surprised bout the last review because I think they were at a different party. My girlfriend even lost her camera and on Sunday the manager came in on his day off so as she could have it before she flew home. Ten out of Ten for Katra and we will be back just for there class and the lack of pretentiousness!!!!!!

My friends and I were searching all over Manhattan to find the perfect venue for a benefit we were throwing for a local hospital. We were told to check on Katra on a friend's recommendation. Chris, the owner, was completely responsive and professional. We went down to the lounge to meet in person and talk about the details. We were sold on the spot. The lounge has a terrific atmosphere and plenty of space. Nice long bar (which is important for larger crowds!) The bar staff were superb and funny! My friends are still emailing me complements of choice of venue. Everyone loved it. I highly recommend using Katra for an event. The food was delicious and service impeccable.

i went t to katra last weekend. i had been there about a year ago for a friend's birthday. i remembered it as a classy upscale place with a mature and attractive crowd. What happened? i'm from out of town and i was embarassed in front of my guest when i brought them into Katra. The classy lounge is now lost among a rude, cheap, timbaland wearing crowd. i was very impressed the last time i made it to this lounge but we were quick to leave unwilling to pay the $13/martini, which came to $63 for 4 when they included gratuity. I miss the old crowd, the classy decor seems wasted.

We threw a birthday party for my girlfriend in their mezzanine area a few weeks ago, and it went perfectly. Although the place was crowded and very busy, the entire staff was extremely courteous and helpful and made sure we had a great time. The events staff (Katherine & Chris) were really easy to work with setting the party up, and we were really taken care of the night of the party. First time I've felt like a New York bar was working FOR me, as opposed to making me feel like they were doing me a favor. Great scene, great DJ as well.

I had a Milkbone Box Signing Party here for my chihuahua Eli and all his dog friends, and everybody had an amazing time! The staff was fun and very helpful, and also very supportive of the event. Thanks to Katra, Eli was able to raise $1000 for Animal Haven. Very lovely decor, comfy couches and great drinks. We will have to come back without dogs, so we can try out the food.

Lovely lovely. From the staff to the drinks to the Middle Eastern-inspired decor, everything about this place reeks of sophistication and wealth. Beautiful crowd doesn't hurt, for sure. There music rules, but you won't find standard club favorites here...the DJ does a great job. A exotic paradise awaits behind those heavy glass doors...I'll be back.

I have gone out to nice places with my friends many times and have allot of fun! I have gone out to bad places many times and had no fun at all. My adventure to Katra on Thursday night well what can I say was unusual to say the least. I never met such unusual people in my life period. First of all Katra is a beautiful place on the Bowery with wonderful food which surprised me for downtown. There crab cakes and Moroccan fries are amazing. The staff from bar staff to waitress were so friendly and attentive which was remarkable for NYC and I give them a big "S" for service. The nice Asian girl behind the bar really made sure we were taken care of. I was told later by I think the owner that she was Irish which I am not shocked about any more considering everyone there!
So we have a beautiful Moroccan Lounge owned and operated by a character from one of those funny nutty Irish movies!

The NFL Football Player standing next to a baseball player who is chatting up the hipster girl whose funny friend has a puppy in her bag that?s picture is on the outside of a Wishbone doggy biscuit box. Then you have the LES weirdo hip-hopping downstairs while in the VIP are some of the biggest names in art and writing having dinner including some well known reporters. On the main floor is the after party for the DOG Academy Awards while suits go round trying to promote the Cadillac car

just had my friend's surprise birthday at katra. at first we were a little apprehensive, our crowd rarely ventures out of the 20s or the meatpacking nightlife, but when we were planning my best friend's birthday we decided to try something new and hot. katra is where the grown ups play. no more drop and go bartenders who make fruity drinks that are light on the alcohol, waitresses with implants and an attitude, or hosts who make you shiver in the rain only to pay $20 at the door. katra takes care of all that. Bartenders were cute and flirtatous in a none frat boy kind of way (*i actually think one was wearing a wedding band), our cocktail waitress was attentive and became one of our girlfriends by the end of the night, and the door host is the owner! we were very happy with the willingness of the management to negotiate bottles (we got 2 bottles of goose for $500 and 2 bottles of Moet for $300) and that covered our table (no table charge). We were happy with the S*xy crowd the beautiful place and the staff. Thanks katra

my friends and i are from out of town and were lucky enough to walk into katra last night. we were happy with the dj, staff, and the happy hour prices. $5 beer in NYC is hard for a tourist to find. Lauren, one of the managers, showed us around and got us to order dinner. we:ll be back to the city in a couple months to visit the city and Lauren at katra!

Chris is AMAZING. book your party with him. he and all the employees take complete care of everything, totally accomodating, comped me a bottle of champagne...great experience with him and his staff. All of my friends got through the door no problem, even when i had quite a bit larger group than anticipated. The one and only thing i can say that's not so positive is it got very crowded...but that's because it's so great!

The night we went it was PACKED with people and really hard just to move around anywhere- however, the vibe was fun and the DJ was spinning some great dance music. However, the prices are outrageous (drinks, even something as simple as a beer, start at $7) and the hookahs are $37. Not worth the money, but it definitely has a fun vibe and beautiful interior.

I've been here at least 3x. Twice it is sooo crowded that I couldn't even walk to get to the opposite side of the room and kept touching people's sweat! ugh! The drinks are expensive here. The last time I went it was fun but maybe it was because I got there at 2am and there was room to breathe and my friends had a table. There is no designated dance floor so people just dance where the walkway is. The scenery is nice but in order to sit down you have to reserve a table and buy a bottle. There is no cover if you know the name of the party.

I've been having birthday parties with a friend of mine for 3 years now, and this was by far the best one yet for several reasons. The manager Chris is probably the most straight forward and honest bar manager I've met. We got everything he promised. The bar was packed, the music was real good, all our friends had a great time, and we were treated very well by the entire staff.

If you are looking for a place to have a party, I highly recommend you book it at Katra.

The thing I love about Katra is how everybody is friendly and the owners and staff make everyone feel welcome. We were at a party last week and yes the place was nuts busy but it was such a great vibe it did not matter. The DJ was out of this world and everyone was just having fun. We were made stand in line just so our ids were check and the doormen were very nice. Its a breath of fresh air and no we did not have to pay a cover.

Compared to the last review I think we went to different places. Our food was beautiful, hot and worth the money. The drinks were a little pricey but were all unique in there own way. We did wait a little longer for our food but the manger did come straight away and resolved that issue by buying us a drink and making sure our food came next. He said there are no problems but solutions!!! He then gave me a btl of champagne for my birthday when my boyfriend told him and I have never ever had that done for me before in a restrauant. We ended up staying the evening and the dj was great. It was a perfect birthday with perfect service on a perfect weekend!

I hosted an event several weeks back and needless to say everything from to the staff, the service and the food was outstanding! Chris Collins the Manager, took great care of our guests, gave suggestions for our event and was extremely helpful and accomodating. In addition, the design of the space is lovely. Our class hosted a great graduation/charity event at Katra last Thursday! Chris Collins, the manager is great to work with, he was really helpful and accomodating with planning and montioring the event. There were Projectors available for our slideshow. The DJ was great! The hor dourves were good, but slow to at being served the first hour. We had an open bar event and drinks were right on the money. All the staff was great with guests. My guest and I love the romantic ambience. We had some trouble with the microphone and wish there was a cordless mic to host the event, but now we know to bring one next time. All in all, a great eventand a fabulous time for all. Katra was also gracious to donate a percentage of the procedes for the party to our Charity: Kayak for a Cause in celebration of our graduation!

I was in Katra last night for an event and we were asked to write reviews if we were happy. The answer is a resounding "Yes". Everything was wonderful, from the food to the staff and the decor. The DJ put on a greatshow and we were told it was Kid Rocks best friend. It is a very mixed crowd so if you are into hanging out with one type of person then this is not the place. Its a little bit like the UN and I suppose that is where the Culture come from. We loved this place and will be back

I just went last thursday. Grrat scene. Bartenders were right on target! :) BUT the waitresses need more training. I had to beg for over 1 hr. for food! Which made me angry.. staff at front door were polite. would I go again? Maybe on a full stomach. Also I dont know how they even let some of those peolple in....

Had my birthday here last night and it blew me away. Cgris the owner was so nice to me and all my friends it made it wonderful. I did not enjoy this place all that much. I found it to be over rated to be very truthful. Our service was not good. I had to ask my server three or four times for my drink and the place was too crowded for anyone to give us the service that these other reviews are raving about. When we finally got our drinks, they seemed very fruity and not that much alcohol in them. They were expensive for mostly fruit juice.
The way the place is decorated is cool, but I have seen this look before at other places too.

Had my wifes birthday party here over the weekend and all I can say is that KATRA made this one of the best parties we have had for her. The service was second to none, Waitstaff and barstaff were amazing and attentive. The food was beautiful as promised and as you can see from all the other reviews that this spot KATRA is different from everywhere else. They put the capital "S" in service. I was at Katra on Saturday for a big girls night out and bachlorette party. Chris completely hooked us up with a great booth...we had few tapas early on which were tasty....and the waitress (even though I believe she just started working there) was great about keeping the drinks flowing and getting all the different drink orders from all 15 of us. The music just go better and better as the night went on that we almost didn't want to leave! Not to mention there was an amazing belly dancer who put on an amazing show..and the hottest bartender who pours a mean dirty martini. Got to thank our man Chris and everyone at Katra for making it such a memorable night.

nice drinks. that i have to say, but i do agree with some of the other reviews on here about the service. I live in Westchester and eat in manhattan all the time, but i really doubt i would come back to this place. I actually had to go get dinner with my wife after we left the party i was at because there was so little food at the party due to such slow service. My wife was starving the whole time we were there and we did not see much passed around besides french fries with a mayonnaise based dipping sauce.

my boyfriend and i live in brooklyn and stopped by katra when we were wondering around bowery. the bar was very romantic and we were invited to sit in one of their cabanas for either dinner or drinks. the bartender greeted us and dropped off menus with no sales pressure. we both got mojitos at her reccomendation and ended up staying for dinner as well. the food was refreshingly exotic and the drinks were made with fresh raspberries.. we'll be back again with friends.

Yikes is all I can say. The food came out very slow and I felt badly for my friend who paid a lot of money to have a party at Katra. He was not happy at all with the service. VERY slow. Very slow.
I would not suggest this place for large parties. The night was o.k. but there was a lot of tension over the food coming out so slow. But one thing I have to say, if you like french fries, this is the place to go. They served a lot of them. They must get them on sale at Cosco Wholesale.

I threw a reunion party with all of my old college buddies and their wives at Katra a few weeks ago. I ordered a buffet that everyone ended up loving, the lamb dishes were interesting and fun. We had the entire downstairs, which is nice since upstairs gets pretty crowded. We had bottle service for all the tables, the waitresses were good looking and professional, they tended to our every wish - even when Matt ordered more shrimp about every 15 minutes. The owner made sure we got our entire party in quickly so no one had to wait outside, then he bought a round of shots. The atmosphere was great, the music was fun, got everyone dancing. Wasn't too loud to reconnect with the buddy who used to pass out on your couch every Saturday, but is now a trader at Barclay's (how the hell did that happen). I'll def be considering Katra for my birthday this summer, just hope the waitstaff doesn't change and place doesn't book up too fast...guess I better go get on that. -John-

We had a party at the last minute here on Sat night as this place was where my friends had a party last month. We were told they would take care of us at 12 due to a private party downstairs . When we got there at 12 we were brought to our table downstairs by the manager where we ordered food and drink. The food was excellent and the drinks were very good.The Lychee Martini was out of this world. My friends and I had a really good time as the staff really took care of us and even gave us a free champagne for my birthday. The only downside was the snobby party that was finishing downstairs. They were so rude and made us feel that they were better then us. One woman pushed me and told me I was in her space. They soon left however and we really had a good time. I think Katra is very nice spot and the easy door policy is really a breath of fresh air in New York

I was at Katra this weekend and I have to say this place is rockin. The Irish owner made sure we had a nice cabana space upstairs as we did not have a reservation we were acommidated anyway. Our waitress was great she was ontop of everything. The DJ was amazing and we danced all night long. I haven't seen a place like this in a long time. Katra is the best hidden secret. I was invited to a party here this past weekend and me and my girlfriends could not believe how SLOW the food service was. I even asked the host throwing the event if there was going to be any food, because he told me in the invitation there would be appetizers and he said he was waiting for over an hour for them to start passing some around.

People were waiting a long long time for food. That was very annoying to all of us who came there hungry at 8 pm and didn't eat for over an hour and half after that. Too bad.

I have been to this lounge several times and must say it is one of NYC's greats. First off, the management is wonderful. The manager was not your typical NYC manager who doesn't give a dam about you or your guests. He accommodated us nicely and was very open to our concerns and requests, if any. This is what made Katra stand out! Reasonableness and not hot headed! They provided us with a nice table, which was different from most other places in NYC. The music on the top floor was great and they played the right type of music all night. In addition, the drink prices were very fair and the multiple bartenders took care of business. Everyone had a great time. I would recommend it to anyone for a birthday or special event!

Thank you to Katra and the staff at katra for showing us such a wonderful night. We came for late night and were running very late but they still kept our table until we arrived at 12. It was very busy but no line and so none of my friends had to wait as we were promised by the owner. The owner is this funny cute Irishman and he made us all laugh as we srrived but he still took care of business he was everywhere. He made us feel so welcome and then he put us to this girl called Niki who made sure everything was right for us at outr table. She was amazing and I know some of my male friends eyes popped out as she is so beautiful. Michelle then became our waitress and she was also really good and she took care of my party for the rest of the the night. The owner sent us over a bottle of champagne for my birthday which ws such a nice thought. I give 9 out of 10 to Katra for its staff/decor/food/service. The one I take away is location. I held my birthday party at Katra this past Saturday and had a great time. Alot more people showed up than I had anticipated, but the owner Chris was very understanding and accommodating, and allowed all my guests to enter with no hassle. My party filled the VIP section, and waitresses were very nice. Music was mainly Hip Hop, and the DJ had no problem taking requests from my guests. I definitely recommend holding parties at Katra. You won't be disappointed!

I had my birthday party at Katra and it was FANTASTIC. We all had so much fun!!! Chris (the manager) was extremely helpful and friendly and he got all my friends in with no problem. The place is very "sexi chic" and decorated nicely. Loved the booths with the colors and cushions! We had a booth closer to the back and even though it was crowded (not not overly so) and busy, our waitress was always around ready to cater to anything we needed! The crowd was also a nice mix and nobody stuck up or anything; this is definitely not a pretentious place! The DJ span some great music (R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, Rock & more), something for everyone! This is the place to go if you just want to have fun! I'll definitely be back... thanks Chris!!!!

I went to Katra last night with my boyfriend and a few friends. We got in very quickly, even at 12am, no problems. However, I am surprised that they were letting people in that quickly considering the place was so packed to the point where you could not move. Crowds are fine, that is part of going out, but this place was SO crowded that I started to feel slightly claustrophobic. We went downstairs to see if it would be a bit better there, and it was just as bad. Nobody was dancing and we could not move at all; very boring. Then we were leaving around 2am and tried to go back downstairs to pick up our coats from the coatcheck and the bouncer said that no one was allowed down there any longer. He did let us go when we explained that we were leaving and just picking up our coats. The staff seemed courteous and friendly, even wished us a goodnight as we were leaving. I think I would like to check this place out on a night when it isnt so croweded. It was a little disappointing that we couldnt even move, not to mention dance.

I had a great time in Katra last night and the crowd was very beautiful and not rude. People all were very merry and happy. Staff were si friendly and our waitress was very attentive. Barstaff were very lovely if not all with wifes. Owner Chris made our party worth it and treated us very special which was very important. No problems at the door as owner had promised and no cover. Great fun and highly recommended.

The owner is helpful and makes you feel that it is his privlage to have you as a patron not like other places who make you feel like you are lucky to be there!! The food is tasty and pretty cheap. The drink is the same like most places but bottle prices are a little cheaper. Music was perfect. There House DJ rocked the house. This place is pretty unknown even though I see all the reviews but I am sure it will be one of the next top five hotspots in New York

I have read all the reviews and I can only say that this place delivers on all there promises. Chris the manager with his nice little Irish accent showed us a really good time and our waitress Michelle was perfect and polite. We all had a really good time and my whole party found Katra to be a gem on the Bowery. Just a shame the clocks went forward or we would have had another hour to party. Try the Hookahs!!! P.S Other clubs and bars should take note on how to treat there customers as this is the way it should be. P.S My brother thinks the two barmaids downstairs are the best and most beautiful in New York

I am so glad we chose Katra to have our party. Everything was excellent from the service, food, music, drinks, decor, and especially the management. What I really enjoyed was how nice the management is at this restaurant and nightclub. There are so many places in Manhattan that are just so unprofessional when it comes to treating their customers and I truly believe that it is the reason most places fail. Katra is definitely the exception to the rule which make this place so successful and different from the rest.

I also rarely take the time out to write a review but I hope that other people will read this and choose to try this place. If you are looking for a place to get together with friends or celebrate any occasion trust me and try out Katra for yourself.

I recommend you order the Mojitos they are delicious and try their awesome Mediterranean Tapas menu and don?t forget to get a Hookah mango flavored is a good one.

Me and my freinds came to this place as other friends had told me they had great parties here. To my surprise we had a wonderful time and found Katra to be unique among all the places we have had parties i New York. Most of my friends are Europeen and we are generally given a hard time gaining entry to most clubs. Here there were no problems with the doorstaff being very courtious. The manager who is also Europeen I think Irish or English was very good and gave us great respect and made sure all our party came in. We got a table and what seems to be rules in NY clubs you have to buy bottles. We bought three btls and surprising enough were bought one by the manager. Our waitress was authentic Moroccan was very good and had great manners. We enjoyed the music and had a wonderful night and experience even though this place was really crowded and busy. Line outside is very quick. Other places in NY should pay attention to this place as this is how a place should be!!!!!!!

Katra is not only one of the best lounges in New York, but the staff is second to none. I had my birthday here in November and have been back several times. I had a Happy Hour Party in the VIP area, and my friends and I ended up staying until well after 2AM. Chris and the waitresses catered to our every request. Since then, I've been back with dates and cuddled on the couches. If you're looking for a great place to have a party or have a quiet drink, Katra is your place. It's sophisticated and fun!

Had party here on Friday Night and we reserved the VIP area for 40 people and six bottles. As the norm when we come in from London we have done this previously at Guest House/ Home and Pache. I have to say even though Katra is not that well known they know how to treat there spenders. First of all our waitress Michelle was amazing making sure everything was perfect and having the humour to match. I cant tell you how many times we have had server who all they think about is getting our card and then basically not caring which I feel is the norm in NYC. We booked our six bottles and were then informed by the Irish owner that we had two Grey Goose on the house whick I have never seen before only when promoters give us that bottle that no one likes as a comp. One of my friends got a little drunk and rude I might add and he was taken outside by security. This I thought would kind of ruin the night as his girlfriend was one of the birthday girls but 30 minutes later he was escorted back in after he had sobered up and apoligised. I have never seen that before and was well impressed with the security. We had our own security and waitress all night and we were very happy if not a little hammered. Great show by Katra and I hope all cllubs take note. My only problem all evening was that it was relly busy but I am sure that is because no one had to pay cover which is stupid when you are spending three thousand dollars on an area.

When I ask the owner if there was ever anything I could do to promote Katra after our wonderful Company Christmas Party he said to write a review on citysearch and tell people what we thought.. Well all I can say is that Katra is a breath of fresh air from all the other venues we saw and even the ones from previous years. The food was beautiful and the staff was very very happy. The service was even better with the wait staff and the bartenders being the most friendly we have come across in New York. The fact that we paid for what we got and there were no hidden charges was amazing. The belly dancer was amazing also and really got our party started. Finally I have to say Christopher the lovely Irishman who helped me set up my event made me look good! He pretty much planned everything for us and made everything perfect and so here is my review and also my thanks. I recommend this place to everyone! You will have a good time

At any given time, you can get in touch with him via email or phone. He will listen to everything and make it happen! I couldn't believe his promtness and eagerness-esp. being in NYC! This place is crazy busy and we had alot of fun. All our list got in and we had no problems.Doormen were nice which is really unusal. Barstaff were excellent and very very very cute!!!!! The waitress was also at the top of her game and we were in need of nothing. It was relly busy and the line was pretty long but I suppose when you dont have to pay cover that happens. The owner bought us a bottle of champagne which was really nice of him and he had this really cute Irish voice. Definately at 10/10 and 9/10 for music.

I celebrated my birthday party here last Saturday and had a great time! The owner Chris made sure we had everything we needed at all times. As soon as we arrived the staff promptly set up for my party and we had a corner to ourselves which was great. We had a great waitress who was very attentive and friendly. The best thing about this place is that its initmate which makes it ideal for a bday party and the decor is just beautiful. Also the no cover, fair dress policy, good music & friendly staff makes a trip to Katra worth taking. I usually do not hang out downtown but this place is definitely worth the trek and I will be going back again.

My compliments to Katra's management, specifically Christopher for running a tight ship. I planned a surprise birthday party at Katra late last month and was quite pleased with the service and attention our group was given. Despite last minute changes in reservations, Christopher made sure we were well-accommodated. Overall, Katra is an ideal venue for private events due to it's layout, atmosphere, and pleasant staff. The space didn't get uncomfortably packed and safe to say the crowd was mature and orderly. All in all, an enjoyable experience and I would recommend Katra as a fun tasteful lounge, with good music, tasty cocktails, and quality standards.

This is a beautiful spot on the Bowery with fine food and great service. The decor is authentic and warm which brings you back to the North African countryside. You know what I like in NYC? Well let me tell you! A place with no fake and still hot, and great fun and on Sat I found it in "Katra". This place on the Bowery has a no trouble door policy witha dress code which was fair. No hats, baggy or sports gear. The doormen were polite and actually funny. Inside you are greeted with beautiful Morroccan decorations which seemed like they came from North Africa. The food was really nice which was is not the norm is busy clubs like this. The drinks were excellent and the prices the same for all major clubs but the btl service was cheaper as I noticed most btls in clubs are gone up $50. Our waitress was beautiful and hot and if my girl was not there well you never know! The music was excellent and he played everything. It got very busy and a little cramped but if it was like our party we actually called our friends to come join us as there was no cover and it felt like everyone did the same. The people who were there were beautiful and polite and it was deffinately a great night. Our party had three bottles and then the owner sent us over a comp bottle of Grey Goose to our surprise which really got us messed up. But do you know what? This place was the most fun we have had in months. Great job Katra and I will be telling everyone about your spot

I really liked this spot with its warm decor and friendly staff. I found it to have plenty of personality with a little bit of mystery. It feels like a neighbourhood spot even with a club atmosphere. We had the vip room for our party and it was nice to feel special and not be famous. The waitress was amazing and took care of everything and we were also given a btl of Grey Goose for "FREE" after we had purchased three and we never even asked it. I hope other clubs take note as this place is "PHAT" and will be huge in the future. It was very busy and the VIP was nice because we had our own waitress and security and so we had our own space. Did not try the food as we had eaten earlier but will come back again if its anything like everything else here. My ratings are as follows

Having had three parties here now I had to put pen to paper and say how amazing Katra is and all the staff who work there. The ambience and the mood are set by beautiful Moroccan decor which brings you to the Middle East in style and elegance. The staff and the service are second to none in any hot spot in NYC. There open door policy with standards that keep the bad crowd out make the place so comfortable with plenty of eye candy available including the two Irish owners who must be brothers.The drink are pretty unique and a little pricey but when you don't have to pay cover its worth while. The music rocks!!! Simply put this place has a great future if they keep up with there policies of easy door, great service and beautiful staff. P.S Check out the hot bartender downstairs. Threw a party here last weekend with 15 friends. It was a great time, good service, no cover for friends, good crowd (sometime too packed at times - but hey its a party). My only suggestion is to make sure you request a good table - meaning one NOT right in front of the bar in the middle of all the foot traffic. Ask for one of the tables on the mini-upper floor in the back of the club or downstairs...it'll save you some headache. Ask for the manager Chris - He's the man!

Had a party here on Sat for 40 of my best friends and we had so much fun that it was the best party I had ever. We were taken care of by both management and staff and the service was excellent. The drinks were club prices but we did not have to pay cover which was nice. We were asked to do btl service but no one really wanted to so I explained to the manager and he said that would be fine as long as we took care of his waitstaff. Thats the first time I ever heard anyone concerned about there staff. The food we had was nice even though one dish did not come out the owner sent us some apptizers free and a btl of champagne. The music rocked and was a mix of everything which is nice and the dj took requests. By far the best night out we have had in a long time!

Had my birthday here on sat nite and loved this place! the people were nice and the staff great. Everything from the decor to the service was excellent and the owners hands on. There Lychee martini was amazing and so was the lamb tagine. They gave me a btl of champagne for my birthday and I have never seen that anywhere else. We had booked at the last minute and the owner promised us he one take care of us and he did. All my friends were allowed in even though one came in flip-flops but the guys at the door made an exception even though there was a dress code. Was at a birthday party here Sat night and it was a blast. Everything was great from the service to the door policy. Crowd was hot and the music hotter. It was a fun night with none of the BS you see in other clubs. Another good spot from the guys who own Taj and well worth another visit

Meet the best new place I have seen in a while. The service was great and everybody was polite. Food excellent and drink was a little pricey but no different from any hot spot. No door problems but are strict on dress code! It is like an interview when you get in with the owner as he seems to be checking that everyone has a personality. Its actually quite funny. We enjoyed this place and stayed way longer then planned. It was crowed but that is expected I suppose. Goodmusic also.

I don't ever write reviews but this time I feel the need! I went to this new place Katra on Sat nite and I have to say its a wonderful spot. I am fed up with the NY clubs and there snobbery like they are better then everyone well this palce is different. Great food , service, drinks and doormen. I was shocked by the way everything was about making things right. We got a table and the manager offered us drink specials on btls which I have never heard of. He then bought us iur fourth btl on the house. I thought I must have been in my local Irish bar some where and then I remembered I was in Katra. My friend got really drunk and he was politely taken outside and given some water now most times Kevin is usually kicked out for that. When he sobered up he was allowed to rejoin the party! Everything about this place rocked and its sister club Taj could learn a thing or two from Katra as I was there last week and it was opposite. The best thing about Taj was they told me about Katra!!!!

I chose this place solely based on reviews and I was definately not disappointed. I called to see if I would have a problem with having a lot of people come there and if I needed to be on a list. I was reassured that everyone would get it and they did. No one had a problem at the door. EVERYONE who worked there was pleasant. It did get crowded but it was a great scene. The owner sent over a bottle of champagne for my birthday and the drinks were wonderful (slightly pricey but standard NYC prices). Good music. This place was so much fun that we stayed until they started sweeping the floor! I HIGHLY recommend this place and look forward to going back again.

Came from Cali for a party last night and went to this new place called Katra! Thought it was going to be like one of those clubs where you have to line up while some big doorman is rude to you and then pay a stupid cover to get into a place where everything is over priced and the service is terrible. How was I wrong! This place is the opposite of everything I expected including nice doormen and great food. Our party was for 25 but many brought extra friends and the birthday girl was worried. The cute owner told us no problem and everybody came in and paid no cover. We wanted a table and here they also did bottles but instead of taking all our money the Irish guy bought us a btl of Grey Goose for the birthday party. We bought a few btls and had a perfect time. They did seem under pressure on the floor but the waitress was excellent. We got hungry at about one and were ready to go get food but we were happy to find out the kitchen was open late and the food was excellent. The music was awsome! We had such a great night and I want to thank all the staff and management in Katra for the perfect party. Its nice to see somethings are changing for the better in NY

Love this place. Great service and food and we had a great time. The decor is fab and i must say we were treated very well. We were provided with a btl of champ even though we had not booked the party and the manager just brought it up. Its a nice change from places like Home and Guest House where its all about taking your money.

Hot new place! Def the place to head to at the moment. Was on guest list, but the guys didn't even check it when we arrived - walked straight in. Crowd was relaxed and enjoying the night (Arrived about 1am). Apparently a lounge as well aas a restrauant

Decided to stop by this new spot on the Bowery on Friday for dinner! 1st The welcome I recieved and the attention I recieved from the staff was the best I have seen in NYC in a while. The hospitality industry has been dead for a while with everyone trying to be something they are not, but here its all about sevice and quality!!!! The drinks were well made and tasted very well. The food was simply beautiful! The lamb Tagine melted in my mouth. The service was excellent and out waitress new everything on the menu which they are supposed to do in NY. The decor was authentic and the prices reasonable. Well done Katra you made my evening nice!

I was there with my wife on Sat night for my party and I agree and disagree with the last reviewer. This place is alot of fun and has great service. It was really BUSY! The crowd was very nice and mixed and yes we did buy a bottle and we were given a bottle of champagne for my birthday. They seemed a little under staffed and I asked the irish owner and he explained the two busboys did not turn up and he then proceeded to buy our whole table a roung of shots. There was no drink that cost $15 dollars and the prices were average for this type of place, We had food which was excellent and the price per dish was no more then $16. When a place becomes this popular you will find problems but I have to say they really took care of us and I would be happy to tell all my friends about the place. Nobody is perfect but one bad review is not what this place is! There will always be someone unhapppy caus there friend is refused caus the have a broken toe or something , i can see the reasoning why that would be because I am a "lawyer". Thanks

Had my birthday in Katra last night and it was wonderful. The food was great and when the owner found out it was my birthday he bought me a bottle of Champagne. I like this place as the crowd was mixed and alot of fun. Even when we were annoyed by some drunk guy he was quickly escorted out. The music was fun with a great mix of Hip-Hop, Middle Eastern Hip-Hop, Euro and World. This was a fun night and well worth a visit. Thanks Riaz for setting me up here.

This is a great new spot on the Bowery. They took care of me with free champagne and all my friends had a great time. Staff are wonderful and there is an S in service. I would deffinately recommend this place. Thanks guys and the wonderful Irish owner!

i did a party there and i haft to say that everything was just wonderfull!
the place is really beautiful and the atmospere is great. they have the best cocktail list and the food is also very good.
it was a friday night and the place was very busy but we still got an amazing service!
i'm defently coming back there!

Had a party on Sat in Katra with 40 people and nearly 75 turned up. There was no problem with that from Katra and by far they took great care of us. We recieved a bottle of Champ on the house and they did not force us to get bottles for the tables we took up. We did buy two bottles when it got packed so as to skip the line at the bar and we were offered one on the house. I found the food to be excellent and it is tapas style. The drinks were amazing and fresh. The highest price drink was $13 which was the amazing Lychee Martini. I really enjoyed Katra as there was no in between the lines. I got what I asked for and more. P.S I thought the last review was false because myself and my friends have been there four times now and have seen nothing like what the last reviewer said. Sorry but you must have not been able to get in!!!!

Had a party there on Thurs night and the manger gave us a HH for the whole party. The staff were excellent and the food of the wall. What a great find in the Bowery. The decor is warm and relaxing and the music is worldly. This place is going to the place to go soon and I am so happy I found it. I will be telling all my girl friends oh and there is no big moody doorman or ropes. This place has neighbourhood lounge written all over it

this place is a perfect little gem . the lower east side has been waiting for this. i ad my birthday dinner party here friday night and was so happy i took the chance on the newly opened katra . it was amazing, from the moment we entered to the time we left we were waited on hand and foot. the food is incredible we really had a great time . ohh you have to catch the bellydancing show ....fab, really fab . the crowd was grown and mature which is hard to find these days in nyc. a special thanks to the oh so friendly manager chris, he was super....want a sexy atmosphere for a dinner or coctail party this is it ....i dont usualy write these reviews unless my experience is really bad or exceptional.....this was exceptional... many thanks katra i will be back soon
