Pros: THUMBS UP

Cilantro is a pretty good Mexican restaurant. Their guacamole is in my opinion the best on the UES. Their Margaritas are also very good and they have several different flavors. If you are going on a nice night, definitely try and sit outside in the back. They have a nice patio back there. Service is typically incredible.

Pros: Guacamole and Great Service

Cons: Very Basic Menu

I'd recommend Cilantro for lunch, and not much else. I just feel like there are much better Mexican options out there for dinner. Try their drinks and check out their calamari. But be warned: the calamari sauce is on the spicier side. So, if you can't stand the heat, order a milder sauce.

I know that getting decent mexican/southwest is difficult in NYC, and this place does nothing to dispell that fact. The food is OKAY. The service is OKAY. The drinks are OKAY. So if you go to Cilantro, you'll have an OKAY time, but nothing more.

I think the food and drinks are fine, but the past two times I've been here I've been basically shoved out by the manager. The first time, my friends and I had eaten dinner and then had just got a pitcher of sangria literally minutes before our table started getting stalked by the manager and our waitress. Eventually he asked us to take it to the bar b/c he had "other customers waiting" - mind you we had waited an hour for the seat ourselves. The following time, we kept ordering drinks and appetizers, and the same manager kept leering over our table asking if we were ready for our check. I would understand that if we had been loitering or obnoxious, but this is definitely the first time I have been rushed out as a quiet customer who just kept raking up the bill. For a quick drink before you go somewhere, I reccomend it - but for a relaxing evening, steer clear b/c that manager is a total tool.

Cons: Rushed out even when you're spending money

I ate here on a dinner date and the bill was under $25 for 2 entrees and 2 sodas. I think the prices are reasonable and the food is good. Most of the tables are REALLY close together so unless you go when it's not busy you will literally be bumping elbows with the people next to you. It has nice decorations inside with textured walls and southwestern-themed animals. During the warmer months there is sidewalk tables. I have eaten here a few times and the service is always terrible. The food comes quickly but the waitstaff is clueless--they forget to bring the complimentry chips and salsa, don't offer drink refills or leave you waiting for your check for 15 minutes after your table has been cleared.

PROS: Reasonable Price
CONS: Clueless waitstaff, Tables too close

Im always amazed at the lack of variety on the menu at this place, but, as the neighborhood spot for excellent margaritas, it does its job admirably. My favorite is the frozen raspberry margarita. Food-wise, stick with the fajitas (the steak fajitas are very good). The black bean soup is mediocre, at best, but the chips and salsa are really good. However, since this isnt gourmet Mexican food, its hard to justify the price of some of the entrees.

Cilantro is one of those places you wish would have great food, but it is only pretty good. It has a pretty festive atmosphere with very strong margaritas. The fajitas are good, but not quite worth the price. It's still one of the better mexican options uptown

Cilantro is one of the few options for mexican food by me. The food is ok, but does not justify the price. However, the margaritas are excellent so if you're in the mood for some drinking it isn't a bad option

Any restaurant can suck on any night of the week so I would not respect the negative reviews unless someone is describing a miserable experience. I've been here twice and have ordered delivery once and so far I haven't had reason to avoid the place. The atmosphere isn't fratty at all, but who knows--anything can happen on any night of the week.

The habanero wings are very good, the nachos are very good, the nicoise salad is good, the flank steak is good, the sangria i had last week was a little watered down, the service was pretty good.

Margaritas out of a machine? And they weren't very tasty at that. They did, however, do the trick - quite potent! I've been to Cilantro twice. I went back because the Chile Rellenos I had the first time were fabulous - one stuffed with herbed cheese, the other with picadillo (pork). But the second time (when I stuck to beer and avoided the slurpee margaritas) they weren't so tasty so I probably won't return.

Also, kinda cheesy atmosphere on the 2nd Ave. location considering the menu is quite eclectic and even the "chips" are an upscale combo of taro, plantain, etc. chips.

Pros: Fajitas, Margaitas, Garden

Cons: , Owner, Music

The previous review had it right--if you don't like Mexican food perhaps Cilantro is the place for you. Otherwise, you can do much better. The menu is far too ambitious for the obviously limited capabilities of the kitchen, which would be better served sticking to basics; the very young clientele would probably prefer that anyway. The outdoor seating is nice, especially given the ear-shattering sound level emanating from the fresh out of college crowd drinking inside.

Coming from a person who's not a big fan of Mexican food, I can say that I really like Cilantro. First, happy hour - 1/2 price margaritas - strong and tasty. Then the steak fajitas are absolutely fantastic - juicy and large portion - and 1/2 price on Monday nights (comes to about $7.50). I've had other stuff there too and its all pretty good.

I thought the food was pretty lousy, actually. The sangria is great though. Maybe if you drink enough of it the food gets better!

started off with the salsa and the fancy chips, and a very flavorful, very strong margarita.. they are definitely not overrated, and anybody who enjoys margaritas owes it to themselves to try one here.. then my girlfriend and I had the porterhouse steak with bourbon sauce, and lobster mashed potatoes.. yes, it was every bit as good as it sounds.. for dessert, the large brownie is to die for, and is served with whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate and strawberry sauce.. we had the back room to ourselves, as it was late, and it was beautiful.. the service was superb as everybody from the owner to the bus boy asked us how it was and wished us a great night as we left.. definitely a nust if you are visiting the city.

Aside for the delectable drinks, the tex mex cuisine was quite tasty. Opting for salmon, I enjoyed the southern border flavor and the charming latino waitress who was ever so convivial. The place was alive and fun for a group excursion of imbibing and eating. Not quite what I'd call authentic mexican, but certainly great tex-mex.

I was in the area looking at apartments and decided to get grab a bite to eat. Looked at the menu and saw the prices to be very reasonable for brunch. The steak and eggs were delicious. My girlfriend and I found the service to be very courteous and friendly. Must go and try dinner there one day. I'm glad she convinced me to try this restaraunt!
