On Friday Feb. 17th, 2012 I was at the Bowery electric. I paid to check my coat in the coat check with my blackberry cell phone in the pocket, assuming that it would be much safer there then with me on the dance floor.\n\nWhen I returned to the coat check at the end of the evening with my ticket the woman behind the coat check informed me that she had given my coat and cell phone to a random bar patron who claimed that the coat was her friends without a claim ticket. I explained to her that I did not think it was acceptable to give a coat to anyone without a claim ticket. Since the bar was closing I was asked to leave by security and to call the next day.\n\nAfter leaving several messages and speaking to an assistant manager I was told that this was not the clubs typical practice and that something would be done to amend this, however nothing at all was done. After leaving two more voice mail messages I never received a call back. I lost over $500 in property due to the negligence of the bar's coat check staff. This is not how customers or guests should be treated.\n\nI am very disappointed about how this was handled.

Being a music buff (scenester?) I spent a full week in mid-October ""sick from work,"" trolling the LES, E Vill and WBurg for new bands during CMJ. When Sunday came I was burnt out, exhausted and covered in stamps, mostly from one venue: The Bowery Electric. I hadn't been there before, but by golly I'll be (and have been) going again.... and again and again. The bands there are always awesome. The sound is always right on the money (can't say the same about ANY other venue) and it's just a down right cool place.\n\nObviously, when it came time to find a spot for my birthday party in December, I emailed the address of the Bowery Electric website. No more than 30min later I had a party for me and my 30 closest friends in The Vault Room. We showed up, got greeted with a smile by the bouncer (rare, huh?) and checked in with a nice dude just inside the front door. Not only was there not a hassle, but the manager even helped me get some of my less-punctual friends passed the line. (Have to say, one of the more baller moments in my life.) The music downstairs was kicking. I can never remember the DJs name but she's sick.\n\nAnyway, we were there until 4 in the morning and it was a BLAST! I usually don't write reviews because I'm from New York and unless I'm bad-mouthing Paul's shouldn't-be-famous famous burgers, I'm just not interested. But The Bowery Electric is a scene, and it's cool and I highly, highly recommend it.

Do NOT host a party here!\n\nWhat otherwise might be a good bar has an irrational and erratic owner that is likely to become emotionally worked up and be rude to you or your guests, making the night an un-enjoyable and awful experience. On two separate occasions I was at this bar where the same woman became emotionally worked up and verbally accosted guests of patrons hosting a 50+ person party in her establishment. The general intensity that accompanies a normal Saturday night in NYC seems to be more than she is emotionally able to handle. She becomes stressed out and in one instance actually attempted to kick the host out due to one guest accidentally tripping on the dance floor.\n\nUntil management changes hands I would not recommend hosting any parties here or visiting in general. This place is in close proximity to B-Bar and Phebes, both extremely fun establishments that will serve as superior substitutes. \n\nSummary, NOT recommended.

This is one of my fav bars in nyc. they always have great live music and a great crowd. during the week it is more of a chill spot and on the weekends it gets crazy. both are amazing times. even when there isnt live music they play great music. if you are into great music and good beer go here.

My friend and I just had a private party there, in the downstairs, and the place was amazing! Fast and friendly bartenders, very cool crowd... the party was a total success and super easy to book. When we booked the space it was really simple and all we had to do was show up and everyone got right in, plus we bought a bunch of drink tickets before hand which made are guests Very happy! Haven't been in the upstairs part on a weekend but, judging by the good time we had downstairs I'm sure the whole place is pretty wild on Fri. & Sat. nights. Check this spot out if your looking to book an event or party, email for info, that's what we did... and the staff really hooks it up!

Pros: Cool place, great music! Perfect party spot.

Cons: Can get crazy crowded!

This is one of my favorite places for a fun night out, drinking and dancing to great music (preferably 80's) with one exception:\r\nWhen the downstairs is closed/rented for a private party, this is my least favorite place and I just walk away.\r\n\r\nWith that one exception, I would want to give this spot a great review.\r\n\r\nThe music selection really is excellent. The DJ's do a good job of keeping the energy high, string together lots of good songs, and not just playing overplayed songs.\r\nThe bartenders are funny and do their best to handle large crowds. The bar needs to keep a bigger staff on popular nights though.\r\nThe crowd is always out for a good night and it's easy to meet people.\r\n\r\nI would recommend booking a private party in advance if you're looking to organize a celebration. Your gain & good time in the downstairs area might be directly at my expense, but you'll have fun. There's a big dance floor downstairs and a 2nd bar with open space, seating, and a view of the primary downstairs dance floor.

Pros: Outstanding Music Selection, Good Crowd (Not all guys...)

Cons: Gets packed, not enough bartenders

I live around the corner from The Bowery Electric, I usually come in after work on weekdays for a drink. The bartenders are always funny, upbeat and a pleasure to chat with. I have met Diane (the manager) on several occasions and she has always been friendly and professional. So after seeing some negative reviews I wanted to post my own. From the door people to bar staff and management, I know most of these guys have been in New York for a long time, and know how to run a great bar/venue. I think if anyone had a bad experience here I have to conclude it's because they're new to the city, don't understand how to treat door staff (they are the ones letting you in!) and generally just amateurs to NYC night-life. It's sad when people come here and bad mouth staffers doing a good job just because they were to drunk, rude or both to have a good time.

Pros: Professional Barstaff & Management

Cons: Crowded (But Fun!) On Weekends

I live in this hood and the crowd here has become increasingly preppy and obnoxious. The East Village rock club vibe is gone. Now it?s a bunch of 19 year olds in popped collars & tube dresses. I came Saturday for a bday and was treated poorly at the door. I asked if the party was downstairs, she glared at me and said yeah, how many are you? Two. She said, when your whole party is here, you can go. My friend was next to me. She rolled her eyes and moved the rope. If you insist on lists and rules, don?t give people a hard time if they follow them. Bottom line: the space is really cool but there are better places for $8 drinks & loud music.

Once was fun, but this place has turned into another shitty, preppy pit of awful. Not only has the staff turned into complete a**holes, but they've switched management and it shows. If I could give anyone one piece of advice about this place, it's don't go.

I went to a Birthday party in the downstairs function room. The venue is good and the dj was playing an interesting mix of rock and punk. I can't comment of the regular public bar but the function room leads me to believe it's worth checking out..

This place has really made a bad move by hiring the new General manager Dianne. She is extremely unfriendly and RUDE and nothing like the manager Michael from when the bar first openend. I would not host a birthday party in this location -- merely to spite her. Even though the location is cool - the music is great- Dianne will be responsible for this place to loose a lot of future business.

This is the last great rock 'n roll venue in New York! The fact that people are only just now finding out about it makes it a great secret, usually when bars become too well known in Manhattan they start to lose their cool. The Bowery Electric is a great place to hang out, drink and rock out to live music or great DJs!!

Literally, this was the worst night out since moving to NYC in 2001. After having a great dinner with a friend in from LA, our party agreed to go to Bowery Electric for someone's ""birthday party"". After reluctantly waiting in line to enter, we descended into the revolting trifecta of bad 80's music, college freshmen drooling shots all over one another and acting rudely without abandon. I felt like I had wandered into an episode of NYC Prep, but everyone had been roofied. You couldn't pay me to go back and I advise you keep your distance. \n\nWhy do I have to give this place one star to publish?

Pros: Frat boys regurgitating in street

Cons: Bad music, unremarkable people

I love this place! I love the openness of the upstairs... and awesome sound system & set-up downstairs (especially for live bands). I have never had an issue with the staff or bartenders. \r\n\r\nMy only complaint would be the back room (upstairs) on weekends - this is typically over populated by birthday parties. My advice would be stay away from the back room and you'll be fine.

Pros: seating, drinks, 4 bathrooms, staff, location

Cons: birthday party crowds (see details below)

.

Came here for a friend's birthday. If we didn't have the backroom reserved, I would have left within 10 minutes. The front of the bar was extremely packed, getting drinks took forever until we got our own waitress in the back (who was good and quick). Bathrooms are just right in the middle which makes the crowd even worse. Apparently there was a dance floor downstairs, but it was too crowded for them to let anyone else in. Given the amount of bars in the area, don't waste your time..there's nothing electric about it.

I've been going here on weekends for months. Met my current boyfriend there. The door people know me now and since I frequent the place often, I can get into downstairs when they aren't at capacity, without a reservation. I love the music. There's no place in NYC where the dj's play music like this. There's nothing better than a few drinks and dancing with some friends - both new and old. It's local for me, great energy and I can always find a corner to hang tight in.\r\nHighly recommended for a casual night out!

Cons: great new sign

I've only been here for the earlier pre-9pm hang in the upstairs bar, so maybe that's why I love it and the last two reviewers were so unhappy? On multiple Saturdays and Sundays and the occasional weekday, I've encountered a fairly sparse but friendly bunch of people at the bar, and sometimes small groups in the comfortable nooks. Bartender very friendly and attentive. Good music, low attitude. I've brought friends who aren't in the area often and they've liked it too. No complaints here - I'll keep visiting & bringing friends. \r\n\r\n\r\n

Pros: nice bartender, attractive space, good music

Cons: sometimes music is a bit loud, for the early times when there isn't much crowd

.

The bar is pretty generic and poorly designed. It's long and narrow so when it gets crowded it gets awkward quickly to move around. Bathrooms are in between the private party room so to get through you have to get by a bunch of people in line to use the bathroom. Huh? Moronic design. \r\n\r\nWhat put me over the edge with this spot was that I was asked to leave because I was drinking water at the bar. I am not kidding! Not only did the bartender, Jimmy do a poor job when I was ordering alcoholic drinks (slow, bad mix, rude), but when I ordered two glasses of water for myself and a friend I took one sip and Jimmy says, ""could you get away from my bar?"" I looked at him puzzled, wondering if I heard him right and said ""I'm sorry, what?"" Then without hesitation he points to a bouncer and points to me. I was no longer welcome seemingly because I wasn't ordering drinks he could charge me for and I was taking up valuable space at his bar. The bouncer was incredibly nice and noticeably confused as well as to why I was being asked to leave. Saddest part of this story is I was there with a party of about 20 people who left with me when they heard what happened and were disgusted. Jimmy's stupid mistake cost him a lot more business then just one person drinking water who he thought he'd kick out quietly. \r\n\r\nThis was certainly a first for me in my bar going experiences. Maybe Jimmy had a bad day? Maybe he confused me with someone else? I understand he is there to make money and I at the time wasn't ordering expensive cocktails, but this was unethical. I will NEVER go there again and will be surprised if this place lasts even 12 months. There are a million better bars in the area. Don't waste your time at this dump. Instead, check out Bowery Poetry Club across the street, B Bar where they sometimes show movies and if you want to dance Happy Ending on Houston. I hope my review sheds some light on this place and saves you the time of finding out for yourself why BE is worthless!

This place is a joke. Don't waste your time UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. The manager is a bully and will kick your party out if you're standing in the wrong place.\r\n\r\nThere are way too many bars to go in the area that you should NEVER feel compelled or tempted to waste your time at such an utterly horribly run establishment.

While the idea of Remote Lounge was cool, all my friends kept meeting on the screens were weirdos saying lewd things. It was as if the remote nature let the inner beast out of the misbehaving boys. The drinks were average price. It was a week day when I went so it wasn't crowded at all and we got to have a table with a camera right away. I am glad I went for the experience but I dont think I will go back.

It is a nice place to hang out but there are few things that they have to work on like service but the place itself is nice.
