Bowlmor Lanes is a hip, NYC bowling alley where bowling is just the beginning. Located in the heart of trendy Union Square, Bowlmor Lanes, a New York City landmark since 1938, has been described as "an art gallery you can bowl in and the best night out in years." Every detail was designed to create a feeling of sophisticated whimsy. Our clients return to our 2 floors of bowling with 42 lanes for our exceptional food, amazing bar and wait staff service, excellent music and the fun, exciting atmosphere Everyone from Richard Nixon to Drew Barrymore has enjoyed at night at Bowlmor.
We had a great experience at Bowlmor last weekend. We have been planning our company's party for over 3 weeks. The event planner was so helpful in getting us setup...working with our budget. When we arrived...the hostess escorted all of us to the lanes and made sure that there was enough food and drinks for our party. Overall...definitely recommended!!

This "racist" accusation is correct.
As a former employee, I heard the owner Tom Shannon say he doesn't want the venue to become too "ghetto." Avoid it.
Try Lucky Strike instead, it's way cooler. (624-660 W 42nd Street)
Oh, and just how many non-white employees have you sen there?!!

the same exact thing happened to me on Saturday night, I arrived at the bowlmor lanes before my date did, I asked the security people if there were lanes available and if they take plastic they said they did and never mentioned to me about a dress code. My date arrived later on and we grabbed dinner then went to bowlmor lanes then the security person would not let us in also mentioned the baggy jeans B S, meanwhile a later arrived just as we did also were jeans that were baggy and they let her in, oh btw i am white and my girlfriend is African American, I also think the alley management and or security is racist

This is my 1st review ever!!! I have always read them, never wanted to waste the 2 seconds it takes to sign up to leave one but, last nights experience was so degrading and embarrassing that I had to break my rule. We had a college reunion/birthday celebration with a small group of friends. The bouncer at the door let a few in while the rest of us searched for parking. When we came to the door, the security person was extremely nasty with us. He told us that we could not get in because our pants were too baggy. Then he proceeded to tell us that he doesn't mind " you people" wearing pants below the a$$, its management rules. Mean while we are watching white guys go in with loose fitted jeans on with no problem. Some guys didn't even have to show i.d.1. No one was wearing baggy jeans (who does)?2. Pants below the waistline is for kids our younger guys (we are in our mid 30's and up)3. We know how to dress. We are all corporate guys.We argue our case to the security guard to no avail... "He proceeds to tell us hes not racist because his girlfriend is Latino. He also tells us that he has black friends and most of his staff is black.1. Who cares if your girlfriend is Latin? We didn't think you were racist until you said that stuff out of the blue.2. the only black staff was one security guard, who was upstairs the whole time.We spoke to management who didn't even want to come downstairs at first to handle this situation. We were in the cold for 45 minutes waiting for the birthday boy and his fiance to get there and we totally ruined the surprise by him seeing us. We were only granted entrance because she claimed she wanted her money back since this was a reserved party. As for the drinks...they were good. I wont deny that. The decor is average. The staff wasn't that great as far as waiting on us went. I actually thought the lanes were pretty decent also. I guess that's why they have a star awarded by me. I would never step into this place as long as they still employ that stereotypical jerk. This guy needs to get training on how to talk to people and handle black people. I wished I had this on video to post on yourtube so corporate could see that there company is employing racist!!!btw we were dressed like everyone in there basically..Unfortunately our skin tone wasn't up to par here.

I went to Bowlmor Union Square on New Years Day. My bill came to $77.70 for six games. I signed a credit card draft for 77.70.
The next day, I checked my bank account online to see if my rent check cleared and instead of my rent check being cleared(brace yourself), I see a charge of $777.22 from Bowlmor. Perfect timing. My rent is due.
The first person I spoke with said "There is no manager here to speak with. You have to call the corporate office or call back in 20 min and speak with Heather".
After 2 hrs. 8 phone calls back and forth to the corporate office, I contacted Heather the manager.
I tell her what the problem is and she says, "Well, like Milton told you, there is nothing we can do for you. You have to call our corporate office".
I told her, "No, he said you would call me back and you didn't, that's why I'm calling".
After me getting upset with the complete lack of help and accountability, I asked the manager to call someone or do something. Just saying,"I'm sorry, there is nothing I can do" is not good enough. It's a $700 mistake.
She offered to send an e-mail to someone in accounting. Gee thanks.
I asked if she could call herself because I had no luck. She called me back and informed me their office is closed for the holiday and I'd have to wait until Monday to get my money back.
I asked her to tap into her resources and figure out a way to help and speed this process because I have checks in the mail for rent/utilites and this problem is just going to snowball with overdraft fees, late rent fees, etc.
Heather's response, "There is nothing I can do, my hands are tied".
I went to Bowlmor because I was sick of getting the run around and asked for the General Manager, Peter.
Peter was already well informed, by his not-so-helpful staff, of the situation.
Not one apology or explanation, just "My IT guy can fix this from home, I just need your credit card number." and an insinuation that I was making this up.
I asked about the overdraft fees I might incur and he said,"Yea, don't worry about. What are they? Like $10 bucks?"
I told him no, I have to pay $35 for each item overdrawn. He told me,"Well I have Bank of America and they are only $10."
Well sorry I'm not perfect! Unfortunately,I have had overdraft fees in the past and each time the fee increases.
I called later on that night, wanting to speak with Peter. I was asked my name, put on hold, asked why was I calling, put on hold again, told he was in a meeting and he'd call me back. He never called.
Needless to say, I will not be going back to Bowlmor Lanes, unless it's to collect the $700 they owe me.

Hand down the biggest disappointment:
Overpriced bowling
Food equivalent to microwave lunches (I ordered the cheese pizza, Dominos was better)
Service was average
The place has a musty smell
Drinks were extremely overpriced
Glow in the dark lanes were pretty cool, I mean that was basically the highlight of the whole place
I would suggest the new Lucky Strike Lanes or AMF 300 hands down.

Joseph F., you obviously are not a real bowler because you have no idea what you are talking about. You say " forget about trying to hook the ball because there is zero oil. " Well, if there was zero oil, as you say, then the ball would be hooking like crazy down the lane. So please get a clue before you make a know-nothing comment like that.
By the way, I am not a sympathizer for Bowlmor. I was there only once and the place was a smelly dump.

This was the poorest excuse for a bowling alley I have ever witnessed. It should be called a club with some wood floors and pins.
If you are an actual bowler you will hate this place, forget about trying to hook the ball, there is zero oil, so your ball will never make it down the lane.
I figure I can open a bowling alley too, just put down some wood floor and place pins at the end, and i'll call it BOWLMOR

One of the better place in the city to bowl the night away. Or to reenact the bowling scene in Grease 2. I think the cheapest day to go is on Mondays. They also have black lighting. Plenty of cheap beer and pretzels. Makes for a cheap and fun date. Fun for newbies and professional bowlers. We're gonna boooowl tonight! Couldn't resist.

Bowlmor Lanes is a very nice bowling place that is on the expensive side. The lanes are very clean and the food here is very good. At night, there are darkened lanes with glow-in-the-dark pins and bowling balls. Such action adds a unique twist.
You can purchase a gift-card here for your friends but the costs of bowling each game is not the cheapest you can get.

Bowlmore Lanes is a bowling alley unlike any other. It is painted in neon colors and lit with black lights, giving the whole place a kind of retro feel. There is a very large bar, larger than the shoe exchange area and you can have a drink and enjoy an experience knocking down some pins. The games are not inexpensive, but this is Manhattan.

I don't recommend this place at all. It is so expensive; I mean for bowling it is ridiculous. The food is amazing. It is a great place to have work functions, if you have the $$. If you do have an event there, the food will be served to your party by waitresses. It is a whole different level of bowling alley. Also they have a menu that includes a wide variety of options (even sushi!). But still I don't think bowling alleys should be this fancy.

When it's raining in NY and one has three options:
1) Go see another crappy Hollywood movie.
2) Stay home and try to catch a re-run of Laguna Beach.
3) BOWL!
And when New Yorkers want to bowl - there is only ONE place with lights, music, & cool waitresses who bring pitchers of stellas & hot wings -- Bowlmor Lanes!

Expect a NYU crowd at this famous bowling spot. Its good for parties by expect to pay a premium price - - its a little piece of suburbia in the heart of the village. Reservations required on Saturday nights. Fun, fun, fun.

Thirty years ago Manhattan had quite a few bowling alleys but they are now a dwindling breed. Bowlmor functions as more than a place to bowl. Nighttimes have packs of singles looking for a date. Celebrities show up frequently and the food is decent for a bowling alley with prompt delivery right to your lane. It's expensive for bowling, even by New York standards and the staff is not very child friendly.
PROS: Decent food good lanes
CONS: expensive

This is such a fun place. If you're planning a birthday party - Bowlmor is a great place to come. You can have a large crowd and everyone will have a good time. Their rates are reasonable and the atmosphere is lots of fun. It's in the heart of the village so very easily accessible by bus or subway. Who wouldn't want to spend an evening bowling with friends? If you need any assistance, the staff will do their best to help you.

I love this place, I used to do cosmic bowling back home in highschool and in college. There is something so pseudo nostalgic about doing it again and having full access to a bar. Yes it is pricier than typical bowling experiences but if you are in the mood it is something that can't be missed. I too agree that the bar food is good and you have to love having a martini as opposed to the normal beer offerings at my bowling alleys. This is a must visit and is so near to other places to visit as well.
PROS: Mon Nights Cosmic Bowling is the Best
CONS: Check your wallet before you go

Leave it to Manhattan to take a blue collar, suburban/exurban, beer guzzling, belching non-sport like bowling and turn it into a discoteque glam scene with starry lounge and apple martinis. Definitely an experience you should try once in your life, unless you are allergic to bowling with loud techno music and screen-saver like patterns projected onto plasma screens at the end of the alley. But I think maybe I'll just stick to grubby, sticky floor bowling like in my Jersey days.
PROS: Glam bowling if you are too cool for regular bowling.
CONS: I am not too cool for regular bowling.

A fun place to visit on a rainy day or evening. At night, be ready to show your id, after which you will be escorted into a small elevator that opens up into a vibrant party scene.
There are ample lanes, but be prepared to wait if you show up after 9 pm. The nachos are delightful, and the apple martinis are not to shabby. Like all things Manhattan, it can feel ridiculous to spend so much money on an activity that costs only half as much anywhere else in the country. But once you get over that, it's a rollicking time. Make sure to check out the upstairs lounge/pool table area (if you can afford it).
PROS: Atmosphere
CONS: Pricey

I was really please to have plan my son's 10th birthday at Bowlmor Lanes. After searching all over the city, my co-worker had recommend that I looked into Bowlmor Lanes. I stopped in there and took a tour of the space. I was introduced to an event planner which sat me down and gave me a few different options. We decided the kids would bowl and eat then were able to play at Carnival upstairs. Overall the price worked out within our budget and everyone had fun. Thanks so much!
Pros: Good pricing, games at Carnival
My best friend and i decided to organize a get together since we had friends from college visiting. It ended up raining and we cancel our plans to go bar hopping. Since we live around the corner from bowlmor...we decided to go bowling. Turned out the place was packed. The hostess was nice enough to accommodate our group...we only had to wait for 15 mins. The service overall was exception which is always rare in NYC these days!
Last week we were in the union square area and walked passed Bowlmor. After the movies, we stopped in and decided to bowl for a bit. The place was PACKED! It was in it's own little world. Although it was little on the pricey, we found out that Monday night there's some type of special deal there.
Pros: DJ, party scene
Cons: Pricey
We celebrated our friend's birthday at Bowlmor. Instead of the usual nightclubs...we went with Bowlmor. We called up to reserved 4 lanes. The lady in the office was so helpful in setting everything up. When we arrived the hostess sat us immediately. Overall it was a great time. Definitely recommend it to everyone else.
Pros: Fun, Friendly Staff, Great Music
My friends and I had the best time. We made a reservation so we didn?t have to wait for lanes. And in 2 ? hours we were actually able to play 4 games each, and we had 5 people on our lane!
So, not only did we avoid waiting in line, we actually saved money by making the reservation. The server took our order and brought everything straight to us so that we didn?t have to leave the lanes. It was a great night and we will definitely be back soon!
Pros: awesome nachos!!!
OMG the Wednesday night special is ridiculous! $4 games and $4 drafts?!? There is not a better deal in nyc for bowling and drinks.. A huge help to me and my ?formerly employed? friends. Awesome crowd, music was great and just because I?m out of a job doesn?t mean I can?t go out and have a little recession-friendly fun!
I'd love to know what it's like inside, but I'll never know because I made the mistake of showing up with a doggie bag from the place I had just eaten dinner. The bouncer (bowling alleys need bouncers?) held firm - there would be no left over fish tacos entering his bowling establishment. After all, they serve food in there, and if he let someone in who had just finished dinner ten minutes ago and was carrying a doggy bag, then, well, who knows what might happen. Hey keep up the good work buddy, one day you'll graduate to bar bouncer, where even greater challenges await you. In the meantime, someone else will get my entertainment dollar. Nice work.
Pros: vigilante security
Cons: none - unless you want to go inside
Last night was my first time going to bowlmor lanes in union square. A bunch of us went since there is a killer deal on monday nite - 4hrs of unlimited bowling for $24 (which covers shoe rental). the place was packed, but service was very good. Our waitress was on top of everything making sure we always had enough beer and food for the lane. The sliders and potato skins were outstanding and the pizza was pretty good too. This is definitely the place to go on a monday night in nyc.
Just checked out Bowlmor for the first time last night, I?m new to the city and I had heard a lot about it. Went with my roommates and had a blast. Ending up losing track of time and all of a sudden it was almost 1am!!
We had a bunch of pitchers? had to drink beer to improve my game!! Also ordered mini burgers and chicken fingers which we ate in under 2 minutes- food is better than I would have thought!
The vibe was cool - lanes were pretty full and they brought drinks right to the lanes so I didn?t have to keep walking to the bar - overall great night out, will definitely be back!
This place is so much fun! If I'm going to go bowling in Manhattan I might as well go somewhere that has a cool scene and is a one-stop hot spot for the night. This place has music, a lounge, food and a pretty good crowd. I would even come back just for drinks at the bar.

Bowling is always my go-to activity when I am looking for a guaranteed fun night out. I have been to all the other bowling spots around town and Bowlmor is still by far my favorite- always a great crowd, and the lanes are really cool.
Their Monday night deal is awesome - all you can bowl for like 24 bucks but it can get crazy so get there early!!
I went to Bowlmor last night for Night Strike and it was so much fun, this might just become my regular monday night spot. I don't know of any other place in the city that offers unlimited bowling for 4 hours for around 25 bucks, which by city standards, is pretty damn good.
If you haven't been here before, you are definitely missing out. They have 80's music blasting all night and big screens above all the lanes showing ESPN and Spike TV.
There's a really good selection of beer -
All the usuals...
Beck?s
Dos Equis
Samuel Adams
Sierra Nevada
Great apps to choose from -
Southwest Nachos
Buffalo Wings
Potato Skins
Sliders
If your not sure what to do on a monday night in nyc, round up the crew for a totally great night at Bowlmor
Pros: great price and food
I just got back from a company event at Bowlmor Lanes and this was by far one of the best times our group has had at a company event in a really long time. There was a great atmosphere to the place and everything was glow in the dark or neon, which is not what you would expect at a bowling alley, but was a pleasant surprise
We had 4 lanes reserved for our event, and as soon as we walked in, the hostess greeted us and knew exactly where our event was set up. A few of us headed to the bar to grab drinks while we waited for everyone to arrive. After a couple of Amstels, everyone was there and it was time to start the bowling extravaganza!
After a I got a couple of gutterballs out of my system, I actually started to bowl pretty well, and thankfully I wasn't the worst one there. After we finished our first game, the food arrived and it was time to chow down, We had great selection which included chicken quesadillas, chicken fingers, sliders, mozzarella sticks, nachos and cheese, and a whole bunch more. All the food was excellent and well surpassed my expectations of bowling alley grub. Kudos to the chef!
After a few more drinks and socializing, it was time for our second game! Not sure if all the drinks I had helped or hurt my score this time around, but it doesn't really matter because I had fun either way! Some of us decided to bowl a 3rd game while the rest decided to just lounge around by the lanes. Our hostess and servers were always around to make sure everyone was taken care of and were extremely organized and attentive.
I would recommend this place for any group or company event and will definitely be coming back soon with my friends because it was such an unbelievable experience.
Call up all of your friends and get them together for an amazing night at Bowlmor Lanes near Union Square. This place is so much fun! I have been going here for 3 years now since I discovered the spot after being invited to a friend?s going-away party. If I'm going to go bowling in Manhattan I might as well go somewhere that has a cool scene and somewhere I can spend the whole night This place has music, a lounge, food and a pretty good crowd. It is always a ridiculously good time even when I just come here for drinks.
Pros: Mojitos and the Servers (service is pretty good too)`
I came here for a corporate party and wasn't sure what to expect, especially since I hadn't been bowling in a really long time. I ended up having an unbelievably good time (despite my ridiculously low score). It was really fun, even though many of my teammates and I threw gutterballs.
The food was really tasty and not like your typical bowling alley fare. We had this amazing fruit and cheese display along with sliders, spinach and artichoke fondue, spring rolls and all sorts of wraps. For dessert we had this crazy fresh fruit palm tree and chocolate fondue with cookies and brownies?I just couldn?t? stop eating it, it was soooooo good.
All the people in my office seemed to have a really great time and our teams took on that competitive spirit to beat one another, luckily no one took it too seriously. All in all, I had a great time and can?t wait to go back with my friends!
Pros: Food, Fun, and Dessert
Went here last night when they have unlimited bowling for $24, a bargain in NYC. Had a blast with friends and really enjoyed the food/drinks?it helped that our server was on point and really attentive. Plus it was easy to get to for everyone.
Pros: good deals, really great food and service
I went to Bowlmor Lanes last night with a group of friends and we had such a fantastic time! This place is totally unlike anyplace I have ever been to. The lanes are glow in the dark, there?s 80's music blasting the whole time, and the food and drinks are amazing. We ended up staying a lot longer than expected because we were having so much fun. If you?re looking for a fun way to spend a night with friends in the city, Bowlmor is definitely the place!
Pros: Fun atmosphere, great food and drinks
Cons: What are the drawbacks?
I took a group of 15 colleagues there for 3 hours of bowling on a Tuesday night.
PROS: It was fun and the staff are nice.
CONS: It cost $2,400!!!!! Yes folks, $2,400! They have mastered the art of nickel and diming and making it impossible to figure out what costs what (drink tickets for this, but not for that). Renting 3 lanes for 3 hours unlimited bowling cost well over $1,000, not including another $100 for shoe rental.
If I'm going to spend that much money, I'll take the office to Del Posto and have a fine dining experience. I mean give me a break. I'll never go back.
Pros: Fun, nice staff
Cons: OBSCENELY OVERPRICED!!!!!
What a fantastic time! A bunch of friends celebrated a friends birthday here and had a blast. Had plenty of drinks and totally sucked at bowling but really didn't care. The vibe is cool and hip. Will totally be back again.
nice place, good location. However their policies are absurd and almost prohibitive, e.g. what's a 2 lane minimum about?
Pros: location
Cons: price and organization
I came here last Saturday night for my birthday with some friends and we had the greatest time! The space is so colorful and fun and the music is great. There was a wait, but it was well worth it. I love to bowl and I've been to the other bowling alleys around the city, and they don't compare to the atmosphere and crowd at Bowlmor. Lots of drinking, lots of bowling, it was the perfect birthday party!
Pros: Great music, cool crowd
Cons: Crowded on weekends
The person who wrote the last review is right. They are bigoted! I was there last Saturday around 8pm and the told my date who was black to unzip his jacket so they could look at his jeans and then told him they were too baggy and he could not come in. Bare in mind that he was wearing a belt so they were not falling down. He just happens to be a thin man. and if you have to make someone unzip their jacket then obviously it was not noticeable. I was determined to see how this supposed baggy jean rule worked and stayed for an extra 15 minutes to watch. To follow an Hispanic guy was told the same thing that his was too baggy and he could not come in. Then a white guy was about to be let in when I asked what the difference was between his jeans and my dates. So they said he couldn't come in. But 5 minutes later snuck him in. When I saw that. I said there was no difference in the 2 pairs of jeans. The guy said it was a private place and he could change the rules whenever he wanted! I was horrifed .
Cons: Prejudice
I feel like a kid everytime I come here.. Well not really because there's alcohol involved. This place has two floors maybe three anyhow, I don't remember it was so crowded in that place. It feels like your at a night club with the colorful lanes. While you wait you could go to the lounge, snack on their appetizers and have a few drinks. The only draw of this place I think is the really tiny elevator to go upstairs. Other than that this in this place you'll have a fun time.
My friends and I went on Wednesday to celebrate a friend's engagement. We had so much fun! The staff were the nicest people, ever! So accomadating. We did have to wait, but we got our lane right when they told us we would. It's such a great place to hang out!
Pros: atmosphere, staff
Cons: food and drinks overprice
I hosted my son's b-day party there this weekend and it was perfect! The staff was tremendous - helping me in everyway... the food was excellent... and best of all... everyone had a great time. The parents and the kids! It is highly recommended!
I went last weekend for my first time to bowlmor after having heard about it for many years. My friends had made a reservation so we wouldn't have to wait (which I would recommend). I never had the desire to go bowling before, but this is definitely more than just a bowling alley. The bar scene is great, really good drinks and the food is surprisingly good. Overall, a great and different night out and much better than the same old bar routine. I will definitely be back!
Pros: no wait w/reservation, good crowd
Admittedly, Bowlmor has a nice atmosphere, and if you can ever get to bowl, it is good fun. However, because Bowlmor caters mostly to corporate clientele, it is nearly impossible to get a lane if you don't want to wait 2 hours. The last time I went, I was told the wait was 30 minutes. After spending a fortune on drinks and greasy food at the bar, I was then told the wait would be another 1 1/2 hours to spend an additional fortune for a lane. Bottom line, if you actually want to bowl, good luck unless you go with a corporate party. And be prepared to drop $50 per person minimum.
Pros: atmosphere
Cons: Long wait, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
The people at the door, register, bar and lanes (all the people I met) were super friendly. Even the people bowling in the lanes adjacent were cool. The DJ was great too. I had an excellent Monday night.
Pros: $20 unlimited, music, atmosphere
Went for a company event and had a great time. If you are not worried about the cost, either because you are a baller or because you are not the one footing the bill, then this is a great time.
Pros: Good Food
The way it is described on their web page, Monday's Night Strike is NOT as expected. They advertise "Dance/Techno" music, when in fact it was a night of R&B and rap music. And you can't even hear the music from the bowling and loud young drunk individuals anyway, so why bother with the so called great DJ. Yes, the price is right with the $20 all you can bowl thing, but the place stunk of beer and pretzels. Oh, and the best was the guy in the front telling us there was an hour and a half wait for a lane, and when we got upstairs........we got a lane in three minutes..........go figure. Not such a great place. Thought it would be more. Its just your ordinary bowling alley.
