Enjoy delicious Italian food in a traditional trattoria setting in the heart of the Theater District. Homemade pastas, breads, thin-crust pizza and desserts are just a few of the house favorites served at Trattoria Dopo Teatro. The chef creates daily lunch and dinner specials that feature roasted meats, tasty seafood and hearty pastas. The restaurant's award-winning wine list (Wine Spectator 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009; Wine Enthusiast 2007, 2008, 2009) offers more than 500 selections, all stored in the restaurants wine cellar. A lunchtime and pre-theater favorite, Trattoria Dopo Teatro also has party rooms ideal for hosting large group gatherings, corporate events and weddings. The restaurant's antique oak bar is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail and appetizer after work or post-theater.

This Italian restaurant is a favorite of mine and my husband's. We recommend this place to our friends, and bring people to eat there if they want to go for Italian when in NYC. The food is outstanding- large portions at a terrific price. However, there are too many tables jammed into a small area, so it is quite noisy. Sitting downstairs is a little better, although not very intimate.

Eat It and Beat It For Tourist
by Jerry R.
My wife and I dined at the restaurant last Friday. We had a pre-theatre reservation and arrived at 6 pm. The interior was like an older pizza place in Brooklyn and we were expecting a solid, but not an elegant experience. Contrary to the reviews (that I suspect were given by the staff), the food was poorly prepared and served cold. The salmon dish was not fresh and looked as though it had been cooked in the morning and kept on a buffet table. The pasta was mushy, over cooked and poorly flavored. The best part of the meal was the bread. When I asked the waiter to replace my dish, he said no. He did say he would try to reheat it for me. When I received the second try it was no better--just over cooked, barely warm and total tasteless. It was insulting not be able to get my dish replaced with hot, fresh food. This uncaring approach truly reflects the attitude of the chef and the restaurant. Take my warning--this restaurant does not care about its customers. Dopo Teatro is an "eat it and beat it" restaurant for an unsuspecting tourist. And do not expect any consideration or courtesy from the wait staff as they are too busy to care whether a diner gets good food or has a good experience.

Delizioso
by Italia1
The first time I've been to Dopo Teatro I ordered a plate of pasta and it was delicious! I love this restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone! The food, service, and design is amazing! I also met the chef and he looked like a wonderful cook and was very sweet to me and my boyfriend. After that night I've been there more then 20 times! It is a wonderful restaurant and it is located in a the heart of Manhattan! I've also been there for New Years and even though it was extremely crowded the service was still amazing and the food was DELICIOUS!
The only thing I can say is that I love this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone!
Pros: Food, Wine, Service, and Design!

Pros: Food
Cons: Light

One Star is still being generous
by Deveeight
I went here with my girlfriend for dinner thinking we would be treated for a nice meal, boy were we wrong. The waiter kept looking at us like it was a bother just to do what he was suppose to do and that was just take our order. The service was bad, the food was just as bad. Me and my girlfriend couldn't decide which one was worse the service or the food. We couldn't flag him down for water or even when we had to get the check. The only glorifying thing was seeing the waiters look on his face when we left him a penny tip. Like he expected more for not doing his Job. Take it from me there are plenty of other spots that you can go to for authentic Italian cuisine for half the price
Pros: look on the waiters face when we left a penny tip
Cons: Everything else

Tasty Italian
by Bob454
We went here before a Broadway show. Everyone loved their meal. The food was prepared very nicely and served by friendly people. The atmosphere was quite nice and we'd go back again.
Pros: Food, Service, Location

WORST PLACE EVER~!!!!
by jbridget
Do NOT come here!!! Worst food and service I may have EVER experienced! Sat for at least an hour while ALL the waiters working refused to make eye contact! Finally someone took our order but soon after, even the appetizers came before the waiter realized AND THEN served us our bottle of wine. Most unimpressive food and ridiculous service ever... I would give this establishment negative ratings!!!!!!!!!
Pros: NONE
Cons: service, food

VERY GOOD!!
by Gerald58
Trattoria Dopo Teatro was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a run-of-the-mill Times Square Italian restaurant but ended up really liking it. Our waiter was excellent and the food was very good. The ambiance was also very nice. Recommended for NYers and tourists alike.
Pros: Italian Food, Ambiance, Waiters

None better in Times Square
by DrGeis
But that doesn't mean it's good. It's okay, and not too pricey. One of those places that, given the competition among Italian places in NYC, would probably not suvive if it were not in Times Square Theatre District. Went there with another couple and tried each the four different pasta dishes. None bad, one quite good, two fair. I agree that their bread is pretty sad, as pointed out by another reviewer.
Overall, you could do worse, but if I weren't in TS, I wouldn't come just for this.

Enjoyed Dopo Teatro
by froffy32
Went here with my wife pre-theatre. We had an excellent meal. I had a pasta dish and my wife enjoyed some seafood. Nice wine list from what I remember and the service was very good as well. I also liked the indoor garden-like atmosphere downstairs.
Pros: Pasta, Seafood, Service, Indoor Garden

Good food, nice atmosphere but some issues
by susanje
We are native NYers who don't usually eat in "touristy" Times Square but we just about "fell" into this place because we had out of town guests who parked at the garage across the street. we were thinking about where to eat and there it was. So we stepped in. I ordered the spaghetti with clams and my husband had open lobster ravioli. Our guests had the rigatoni bologonese and the pesto dish. Everyone liked their dishes. Mine could have used a bit more garlic and flavor. It was good but not REALLY good.
We all had and shared desserts. Again good but not really good.
The wait staff was polite but we were there on a slow night and they had jammed a lot of tables close to each other and half the (back) room was empty. Had they seated one of the foursomes at a table for six, it would have been more comfortable. Because of how jammed in we were the waiters had to keep going around the next table to get to one half of our table. It was silly.
My other issue is the bread. They don't have good Italian bread like most Italian restaurants in the city. That was a HUGE disappointment for my guests.
Pros: pretty good food, nice atmosphere, could be better if they spread out the tables
Cons: the bread is terrible, the food could use more flavor

The Food is OK!
by EricPennyworth
I cannot believe how poorly the owner and staff treat their customers. The food is OK, but they seem out of many menu items. We go to many neighborhood restaurants in the area, and will never be back to this one after seeing the behavior of the owner. There are many better choices nearby.

Hands down loved it
by kellychoosie
We were going to the theater and decided to try this place. The food was really deliciuos and served in a profesional timely fashion. We were a group of 8, so things could have gone wrong, but everything was really great. All of our appetizers were great, all came on time and were served to the right person without tossing the plates around. Our server was very attentive. We had some great salads, one my friend had was with prociutto, served in a big glass bowl, very nice presentation. I had this unusual salad with marinated bread, Tuscan style called Panzonella.... It was amazing!!! We all were happy about the appetizers and than the main courses blew us away. I had increadible pasta, tossed with sea food and arugula, different, but delicious. Couple of people had a steak, fish, tilapia that they raved about. Well to top it all off, we had triramisu to die for.... We had a wonderful time. They got us out just in time for the theater without rushing us out. Really amazing experience, especially with a large party. Highly recomended.
Pros: Food and service
Cons: none

Awful food and lousy service
by wkko
Appetizer (salmon/ricotta crepe) was salty but otherwise tasty. That is the only positive thing I can say about the meal. Not one person liked their main course, and several people left the table hungry rather than finish their meals. One of the glasses of wine we got tasted like the bottle had been open for a few days. Even the bread they gave us was tasteless and bordering on stale. The service wasn't any better than the food. We were asked how everything was before people really had a chance to taste their dishes, and then we were left trying to flag someone down to for some cheese (to mask the taste of the food) and more water for most of the meal. We were sitting in a corner, yes, but that's no excuse. Never going there again. Never letting anyone I know go there. STAY AWAY
Pros: I guess the location is convenient if you're in midtown...
Cons: Food, service, value (price vs. portion size)

Great food! Good prices!
by cbadloc
My wife and I went for our anniversary recently before an 8pm show. Reservation was at 6pm and were seated promptly. It wasn't really romantic in the sense if you're looking for a quiet or intimate setting. However, the tables are far apart from each other (unlike other restaurants) and the garden downstairs where we sat was really nice. Service was good and quick without being pushy (appetizers came out in less than 5 minutes) with everything finished with bill at around 1 hour. We could've stayed longer if needed as it didn't seem like we were being rushed out of the place. My lamb shank was excellent! Very flavorful in a large portion. My wife had a lobster pasta which was also excellent. We were both satisfied with our experience and would definitely go back. Again, I wouldn't describe it as quiet or intimate setting but was still enjoyable dining in the garden area downstairs for our anniversary.
Pros: Experience was enjoyable
Cons: too noisy if looking for quiet romantic setting

Delicious Food!
by Bobrty
I've been to Dopo Teatro several times and have had an excellent experience on every visit. The pastas are fresh and the various meats and seafood dishes are delicious. They have a great wine list as well. The service is always attentive without being overbearing. Oh yeah, the ambiance is very nice. I especially like the indoor garden-style room downstairs.
Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance

Nice But Not Romantic
by Travel22
I received a gift certificate for this restaurant, so we decided to check it out. We were seated on the lower level, up against the stairs. It was crowded, the tables are very close together, and it was quite noisy. We were sat right next to a big party- not romantic at all. The food and drinks were okay, a bit over priced, but what isn't in New York??! The customer service was great and much appreciated, but the environment was a let-down.

Romantic night without the kids
by Hitman17
After 12 years and 3 kids my wife and I are trying to add more "us time" to our marriage. We had tickets for the theater on a Wednesday and picked this place based on reviews. We had a 6pm seating but got there and 5:45 and were sat right away. We had a very romantic table in the Garden room next to the waterfall. We are not big wine drinkers but both had a glass, nothing expensive, to help set the mood. We both had tortelini soup, and split 2 appetizers. My wife had filet mignon with zuccini and gorgonzola on top. It was very tasty. I had steak over arugala with thinly sliced parmasean cheese on it. It was mouth watering. We both had the chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream and it was incredible. The portions were big enough to fill you without being too big you have to take a doggy bag to the theater or throw it out. The service was polite and fast enough to get us to the show within 2 hours. Well worth the trip if you need a nice romantic night out without the kids it is perfect and not too expensive unless you want big time wine which is there if want it. If you do go and take the kids the pizza at the next table looked very good as well.
Pros: Ambiance
Cons: Very intimidating wine list

We love returning here before theater. It is a nice place serving amazing pizza. Love it. The service has been consistantly great and we love the garden downstrais. The homemade desserts are great too.

Very loud and not romantic
by awgree3
I took my girlfriend here for what I hoped would be a romantic dinner in the theater district. I was disappointed to find that the restaurant was extremely noisy and crowded; not at all what I expected. The decorations, which look charming on the website, appear tacky and nearly gaudy in person.
Our server was not particularly friendly or skilled. He neglected to bring bread to the table and our water wasn't filled as promptly as I like.
As far as the food goes it can only be described as mediocre. The portion size was modest, but not large enough to be satisfying and the prices, though modest, were too high for the quality and quantity of the food provided.
All in all, I would say that this restaurant was decent, but there are far better choices within the area to chose from that would provide superior food quality and value.
Pros: Good location, Large wine list
Cons: Noisy, Mediocre service, Not Romantic!

Great pasta!
by cjohanson1
We had theater tickets, so we made a reservation for dinner before the theater. Since our show was canceled, we decided to go out to dinner anyway to check out the restaurant for future reference. It was great. The fusilli pasta was delicious. My husband had the rigotoni which was equally great, we had a bottle of great Vermentino and really good tiramisu for desert. Well, when the theaters go back to business we will definitely be back. Great experience.
Pros: Great pasta, nice wine list
Cons: none

Great Romantic Dinner for wine lovers
by ct555
My boyfriend and I both love wine. We came to this restaurant because of its great wine list and we were not disappointed. They have an amazing selection and great wine collection with some of the best vintages, really worth looking into. The food was great. The ossobuco complemented our Barolo perfectly. The service was really great too. THey offered to decant the wine, which is great during the pre-theater time. We were incredibly impressed. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and professional; he offered some great advice. We had a great time. We just found our new pre-theater destination and the prices were very reasonable.
Pros: Great service, food, outstanding wine list

You get what you pay for
by deniseprovenza
I met girlfriends at this place on Thursday, September 29, 2007. I had heard that the food was good from 2 friends. The prix fixe menu is $22.50 but a glass of wine (which was a brand that sells for $6.99 in the liquor store), was $10 a glass. The lasagna was advertised as having bechamel sauce, which it did not (it was fairly flavorless) and the dessert that was on the menu, fruit tart, was sold out and substituted with lemon sorbet (a big disappointment). Our waiter spilled a glass of red wine all onver my skirt and blouse and proceeded to charge me for the wine. When I inquired as to being reimbursed for my cleaning bill, he said, "We don't do that here" and offered the table an after dinner drink. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this establishment.

Great authentic Italian!
by adornag
As a resident of New York for many years, I have always thought it best to avoid the Theatre District for dining options. Even when attending a show I usually dine further downtown to avoid crowds and the ridiculous overpriced cuisine that is common in that area. That being the case, Trattoria Dopo Teatro was a welcome surprise. It was recommended to me by a friend who promised that I wouldn't be disappointed and she was definitely right! The waiters were extremely friendly (one even sang a spirited "Happy Birthday" to my fiancee at the end of our meal, complete with candle!), the service was quick, and the food was delicious. For main courses, I had a creamy and filling seafood risotto which was one of the specials of the day, and my fiancee had a pasta with wild boar (his first time trying it!) that was delectable. The staff was courteous and considerate, the wine list was HUGE, and when the check came I was pleased to see that it was a fraction of the price we would have expected to pay for food of this quality and in this location. You would be hard pressed to find a better deal in this area. Needless to say, I have since been recommending it to others, and we will be returning. I don't typically write restaurant reviews, but this place is a great find, particularly for theatre-goers.

save your $$$$$
by mommagoo
Not good food..........bread was stale, wine is hugely expensive......the menu didn't even offer veal.....
just lots of fish and pasta. We should have left. Not what we expected. The waiter complained no people were there! Wonder why?
They did have a special veal chop that night........$23.00. It was butterflied, dreged in breadcrumbs and "fried" in old olive oil. No spices, no garlic...it even needed salt & pepper! No sauce!
On top of that they put an argula salad with tomatoes on it...no dressing...or little olive oil maybe.
We couldn't eat it...the taste was "off", and it had no flavor.
Our waiter didn't even ask us how our meal was. When he saw our uneaten plates, I said, "We didn't like our meal very much."
He replied, "Thank you, you got veal and a bottle of wine!" "What's more?"
Coffee was watery..........what a disappointment.
Pros: Maybe if you like pizza & raviolis..........you'd like it
Cons: Not true "Italian"......they don't know what their doing in there.

Fabulous Find
by tf70
We just stumbled upon this place, while looking for a different Italian place that is not there any more on our way to the theater. It was Friday night, pre-theater and we obviously did not have reservations and it was 7 of us, well let us just say, I was not very optimistic about finding a good place under the circumstances. Boy was I wrong. We saw some people leaving and we asked them how was the food, they said it was amazing, but it looked pretty crowded, we figured, we'd give it a try. I walked up to the hostess and asked, she was so sweet, she said she would try working something out if we waited few minutes at the bar. Literally a few minutes later she came back and graciously asked us if we would't mind sitting in the secret garden. And so we went down the steps to the garden. It's a very pretty room with fresco tiles that looks like a courtyard, more than a garden, but we sat at a table covered with the Italian fresco tiles and ordered. Our waiter was very nice and helped us with the menu. My fettucine pasta was truly amazing. My kids had pizza that they are still talking about. My husband loved his rib-eye steak. My friends had the ragotoni Siciliana with eggplant and tomato sauce (I tasted a little,) which we have to come back for.... Just great and to think we just walked in and got lucky. Well I'm passing on the luck, see for yourself.
Pros: Great authentic Italian food, location, service
Cons: None

Consistently Great
by 54h57
We have discovered this restaurant about a year ago through a business function held at the lower level. My co-workers and I liked the food served at the event so much, we came back for lunch to try different dishes from the menu. Now we all adore the restaurant and call it "our hidden gem." Great, authentic Italian food is hard to come by in the theater district, this is an exception. I have brought so many friends to the restaurant and everyone is always satisfied with the food, even my friend from Italy was impressed with the pizza and the pasta. I highly recommend the pasta dishes, all of them are great and the ossobuco is truly exceptional. Always better to avoid the pre-theater crowds, but if you are going to the theater this is the best place around. We just went pre theater yesterday with a group of ten and everything was so terrific as always. High praises.
Pros: Great, authentic food and friendly, attentive service
Cons: Gets crowded pre-theater

Nice and romantic pre theater
by phil09
I took my girlfriend for a pre theater dinner on Saturday. I made a reservation for a romantic table in the secret garden. They were very nice on the phone and promised they would get us a nice table. The restaurant was very busy when we got there. The hostess ushered us through the crowed down the stairs to the secret garden, to a table in a little corner in an alcove, like a balcony, above the rest of the room. The room itself is so beautiful, full of frescos... wow. My girlfriend was so impressed. The food was terrific. I had the ossobuco and she had rigotoni pasta. The food was amazing, the service was impeccable. Their wine selection is great, I picked a nice bottle for us. The server served it in a decanter perfect. We truly had the best pre theater meal ever. The place looks small from outside, but then you go and discover there secret rooms. It is not only beautiful, but conveniently located (we went to see Spamelot,) has terrific food and great, friendly service. We will definitely be back.
Pros: Romantic, great sservice, great food
Cons: None

Price Fix Menu is no good
by gripdxd
I dined here with a party of 6 and sat downstairs in the "theater room" I believe. We were jammed in real tight and felt as if we were sitting in a cafeteria. Constantly we were bumped into by servers because it was such a tight squeeze (we also had reservations). We went with the price fix menu and was really disappointed. We wish we had ordered from the regular menu. The fruit mousse dessert was garbage, definitely not a treat (go with the sorbet). Overall very disappointing and I had to wait too long for a cup of tea.
Pros: Close to theatre
Cons: Crowded, Price Fix Menu-a disappointment, Tight Seating and Noisy

I have been bringing clients to this restaurant by my office for years; they have been consistently great. The food is amazing, best ossobuco in the area. Pasta with fava beans and pancetta is also highly recommended. They are always friendly and accommodating. Great, great place, business lunch or otherwise.
Pros: Great food, friendly service

A SAD LUNCH EXPERIENCE
by mangiafuoco
I made the reservation for lunch in this lovely look like restaurant loaded with charming photo in the theatre district right by one of my company offices.
I unfortunately had a very unhappy and pour experience from the first minute we walk in were the hostes was not friendly at all, the server came after good 10 minutes saying ( we are not open yet you need to wait ),and let's don't talk about the food and the rest of the service....so big deal I went at 11:25, and got that response !
A Fat and extensive wine list compliments the expensive lunch time in this place.
Nobody help us at all, very unpleasant and blended food.
Pros: WINE LIST
Cons: FOOD & CUSTOMER SERVICE

A lovely pre-theater Outing
by dineoutfor4
This is a restaurant my daughter takes her coligoues to since she works in the area. This was the first time my husband and I went. We had tickets to the theater, so we decided to try it. My daughter made reservations for us for Friday night. We were greeted by the pleasant host in the front and seated promptly. We were seated in a little alcove by the wall, very cozy. My daughter had her favorite, but we had take a while to go through the extensive menu. I had pasta with wild boar, which absolutely fabulous. I usaully do not take the time to write reviews, although I read them quite often. This dish was so good, I had to let everybody know. We were all very happy with our choises. My daughter had her favorite pizza Margarita, my son-in-law had the ossobuco, my husband had the delicous rissotto and I was thrilled with my wild boar pasta. All of this fabulous food promptly and in time for the theater. Wonderful, really. The restaurant was very busy and the music slightly too high for my taste, but the food more than made up for it. A really great choice!
Pros: Food Thumbs up
Cons: Music too loud

A Big Disappointment!!
by txgirl44
We had pre-theater reservations at 6 p.m. and were seated immediately. The atmosphere was nice, but the waiter had a look of comtempt when we said we wanted the pre fixe dinner. The salmon was OK but the lasagne and penne pasta were bland and not even pleasing to the eye. Maybe ordering off the regular menu would have been better. The highlight (sarcasm) was dessert. Our chocolate cake looked like one slice of cake that they had sliced into thirds before serving us. I guess you get what you pay for! I would not recommend this place to tourists even if it is close to your theater! I don't usually take the time to write a review, but I just had to in this case.

Pleasantly Surprized
by hslawretep
We had dinner there on Saturday before seeing "Journey's End." We selected the restaurant based on location (it's right next to the Belasco Theater) and the reviews. Generally speaking Theater Distric is not a place for great Italian, but this was truely wonderful. Black tagliolini pasta with shrimp and spicy tomato sauce was great, so flavorfull. My wife's Bucatini all?Amatriciana (pasta with pancetta, sliced onions and
tomato sauce) was outstanding and she is a harsh critic, because she is Italian. She was blown away.
Our friends had pasta with pancetta, fava beans and white wine, which I tasted and it was delicious. I also tasted our friend's pizza, which they said was just like pizza in Rome... Well to have Italians love Italian food in Manhattan, that's an accomplishment; they will always find something not done "the way it's supposed to be." We were all blown away by how delicious and authentic the food was. The service was very good. The interior was very pleasantly decorated. The restaurant was very crowded, but I guess you can not have it all; it was Sat evening before the theater, but we liked the food so much we are going to come back just for dinner on a calmer night. Our waiter said Mon or Tues are usually okay... Go for the food!!!!!
Pros: FOOD, location, service

Delicious Food & Friendly Service
by coleensguide
We decided to check out this restaurant before going to see Spamalot on Friday night. I made reservations for their Secret Garden; they were very nice and accomodating. When we came in, the restaurant was very busy. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and seated promptly. She showed us to a table in the downstrais garden. THe space is very unique and truely gorgeous, but the room was a little too cold.
Our waiter was excellent, very nice and helpful. He help us to select a great wine. Now, the best part of the visit was the food. The rogatoni pasta was flavourful and delicious. Pizza Dopo Teatro with prociutto and trufle oil is amazing. We are going to return for sure. A great find!!!! They just need to regulate the temperature a little better.
Pros: Location/food/Service

It ain't that good.
by roccodonvito
The food average - just average. The service below average. Our server was told we were in a rush and he still waited 45 minutes to give us our meal. A pizza and pasta - a meal that should have taken top's ten minutes to cook. That left us 7 minutes to eat and 7 minutes to get to our show. So even if the food was good - we really couldn't have enjoyed it...
Pros: In the theatre district.
Cons: Disorganized, didn't meet our time constrant.

Wonderful meal, beautiful decor, great party rooms
by sharopooks
We have been checking out restaurants that have private rooms for an event we're having later this year & decided to dine here on Valentine's Day to try the food & see the private rooms. True, there is a bit of a "cattle call" feel at most restaurants on V-Day due to increased volume (the pleasant hostess didn't even show us to the table but directed us & another party to a general vicinity...which was fine because we got to choose our tables but still). Tthough our waiter was very busy, he was nice and accommodating. The various wall frescoes in this restaurant provide a gorgeous setting for a meal. A wide variety of food; many dishes have seafood in them but there's plenty without ( if you want something without the seafood, I'm sure they would oblige, they were very accommodating to us re: food requests). The meal was great - particularly loved the Bucatini all?Amatriciana (pancetta & noodles) - cooked perfectly in a savory sauce, absolutely delicious. Must admit that the pollo ai porcini was just OK, not great (the sauce was pleasing but the actual chicken was just good). & it was a little disappointing that the open raviolo is only served after 8PM (we were 15 mins too early) but I guess that's their choice. Enjoyed it all w/ a yummy kir royale (the Valentine's drink special). Fabulous tiramisu for dessert (though must say that they didn't have a few of the things that were on the dessert menu). We had told our waiter before the meal that we wanted to talk to someone afterwards about the private rooms, & promptly after we finished our meal, Bart, the manager came over to speak w/ us. Bart was informative & personable, he really made us feel comfortable about possibly having an event there. Gave us a whole informational packet. This is the frontrunner for our event but even if we ultimately choose another place, I definitely want to eat here again - I want to try their risotto & cheesecake since I didn't get to the first time!
Pros: FOOD (excl chicken), Ambience, Service, Private Rooms
Cons: Chicken just OK, can get crowded

Good Italian before the show or after
by sang337
my family and i went to dopo teatro before our 7 o' clock show on Sunday. To our surprise, Dopo Teatro was good especially their pastas and pizza. Their la caprese and pizza caprese were fantastic. The food came out fast which was good since we had a show to catch. Dopo teatro was one of the better restaurants i've gone too before seeing a show. obviously, if you are expecting babbo or il mulino type italian food here, then you'll disappointed. but, as the saying goes.. you get what you pay for and at dopo teatro you will be satisfied.
Pros: close to theaters, food & service

Amazing Food/Beautiful Interior
by faytar
We made reservations on Sat at 7:30 for 6 people. We were seated right away at a round table in the dining room. The food was just unbelievable. I had the chicken with porcini mushrooms in a wine sauce. The chicken was so tender, the sauce was delicious and the mushrooms solidified all the flavours, simply amazing. We ordered a couple appetizers to share, everyone loved the food. The mushrooms with soft polenta was especially good, so was the antipasto platter. My friends were raving about the pasta dishes and the ossobucco.
Our waiter was very good and friendly. He helped select a bottle of wine for the table. The service was very attentive, eventhough the restaurant was very busy. I ordered a martini from the bar, my friends decided to have drinks from the bar after my order and the waiter brought all the drinks together and very promptly. Actually we were all pleasantly surprised how well we got taken care of in a busy night. We were expecting a pre-theater crowd, but the restaurant was very crowded when we got there. If you are not going to the theater I would urge you to make an 8:00 reservation, the restaurant empties out and it's much more pleasant. In fact, we made reservations on the way out for next weekend at 8:00. I can only imagine how great the service is going to be, when on a busy night they treated us so well. Looking forward to going back. My highest recommendations.
Pros: Amazing Food, Friendly and fast service
Cons: Crowded on Sat pre-theater

Great Service & Superb Food
by caroltour
We came to have dinner following our friend's advice. We had a wonderful time. The restaurant is beautiful. We were sitting upstrais in the main dinning room, very cozy. Our waiter was great, he helped us with food selections and recommended a great bottle of wine. Skip the bread, it is not the best, and it will save you room for what's to follow: wonderful food. The ossobocco was splendid. Our complements to the chef. Pasta with wild boar - a must... What a treat to find a place that serves great food in beautiful and comfortable surroundings and won't break the bank. A great deal.
Pros: Graet food, great service, great prices
Cons: Bread was not good

Amazing Italian Food
by leo23kad
We stopped in before the theater on Wed. It was terrific. The food was really amazing. My pasta dish was great. Sicialiana, wow, full of flavour, so tasty. My husband had a steak. He said it was very good. We looked at the wine list, well, it was very confusing. They have such tremendous varaiety of wines, it's difficult to find what you want. Most of the wines are Italian, which I guess is fine, if you like Italian wines. We prefer the French wines, of which they do not have such great variety. Well, our waiter was knowledgeble and helped us to make a good selection. We are very happy to have found this restaurant, the food was truely exceptional. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. Really great overall.
Pros: Excellent food, great service, good location
Cons: Confusing wine list, mostly Italian wines

Excellent Italian!!!
by kathy678
Bravo, this restaurant serves fabulous, authentic Italian food. I'm still wild about the pasta with wild boar... Amazing. Pasta was great. We all loved the food. 4 of my friends and I ate here on a friends recommendation. The food was truely amazing. The atmosphere is nice. Service could use improvement, but they were very busy, so it's somewhat forgivable. The pasta with wild boar.... amazing.
Pros: Great Food/Nice Ambience

food was just average

I went to Trattoria Dopo Teatro for lunch today because of its convenient location and good reviews, but I was quite disappointed with the quality of their food. I ordered the penne with italian sausage and wild mushroom, and it didn't taste that great - the sauce was slightly too watery and the pasta was on the soft side. My boyfriend ordered their pizza, and as mentioned in previous reviews, the crust was too soggy. This place is alright if location is one of your main considerations, but I won't recommend it to others and will not make a trip over just to eat at the restaurant.
Pros: convenient location, good service
Cons: low quality food

An amazing, romantic evening
by valerienyc24k
My husband took me here for our anniversary before heading off to see Spamolat. We had an amazing evening. The restaurant was so romantic. We had a beautiful table downstrais in their garden room. We ordered a wonderful bottle of wine. The food was amazing, I had the open ravioli, my husband tried the steak. We both loved our choices. The service was impeccable. We are definately going to be back. Just wonderful.
Pros: Wonderful food and wine, impeccable service, romantic atmosphere

Best Pizza Ever !
by trisha7a
They serve the best pizza ever. I read a lot of reviews and searched among friends and this is my ultimate pizza place find. The restaurant is beautiful, the decor remainds me of an Italian villa. My friends had pasta dishes and raved about them; my boyfriend had the steak and really liked it. The wine selection was impressive. My friend is a wine lover, not often impressed by wine lists, but here he really went wild. He picked a wine for us, it was delicious.
I still love the pizza here and I really strongly recommend it. The restaurant is romantic, if you're looking for a great date place. We all loved it and will be back for sure!
Pros: Great Pizza, Nice decor, Friendly Service

Great Wine List, Very Tasty Cuisine
by cfogertyy
Found Dopo Teatro on Citysearch & decided to give it a try. My wife & I went on a Thursday night. It was a good crowd but the service was still very attentive. We were seated in the indoor garden downstairs which was very nice. They have a great wine list to choose from & we got a bottle of Merlot...good recommendation from the waiter. I had a veal dish and my wife had Linguine Montecristoi. Both were excellent. Glad I happened upon this on Citysearch
Pros: Wine List, Delicious Cuisine

Went here w/ my wife pre-theatre. GREAT location near Times Square & Broadway Theatres. Service was good, wine selection was excellent. My wife had a pasta dish(fettucini with shrimp) & I opted for some veal....both were very good.
Pros: Food, Wine, Location

Very Disappointed
by llwt
After reading the reviews we tried this place. Their "signature" open ravioli with lobster and porcini was HORRIBLE as was the risotto. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Pros: Service
Cons: Food
