5 Stars: Amazing dinner : ) (by MMay)

We were a party of 8 on a Thursday night going to the theater, so I was a little worried about the experience, but they made our night. The hostess was very friendly and sat us right away at a very nice round table in the dinning room. The waiter was so attentive and nice despite the fact that he had his hands full with lots of other tables. He was a very nice Italian guy named Roberto, ask for him when you go, the guy is great and knows a lot about food and wine. He helped us to choose a great bottle for the table of Chianti classico that complemented our dishes perfectly. Well and than comes the food, simply amazing! We had the ossobuco, better than I've ever had! My husband still raves about his sea bass, it was crispy and delicious. My sister had an amazing pasta with rabbit ragout. I had this delicious salad with shredded apples, blue cheese, sun dried tomatoes and speck. Oh, you get the idea... Everyone of my guests was raving about the food. Needless to say, I'm planning another dinner there and recommend the restaurant very highly. We made the play and really had a wonderful experience! Thank you guys : )

5 Stars: Delizioso (by Italia1)

The first time I've been to Dopo Teatro I ordered a plate of pasta and it was delicious! I love this restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone! The food, service, and design is amazing! I also met the chef and he looked like a wonderful cook and was very sweet to me and my boyfriend. After that night I've been there more then 20 times! It is a wonderful restaurant and it is located in a the heart of Manhattan! I've also been there for New Years and even though it was extremely crowded the service was still amazing and the food was DELICIOUS!
The only thing I can say is that I love this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone!

1 Stars: One Star is still being generous (by Deveeight)

I went here with my girlfriend for dinner thinking we would be treated for a nice meal, boy were we wrong. The waiter kept looking at us like it was a bother just to do what he was suppose to do and that was just take our order. The service was bad, the food was just as bad. Me and my girlfriend couldn't decide which one was worse the service or the food. We couldn't flag him down for water or even when we had to get the check. The only glorifying thing was seeing the waiters look on his face when we left him a penny tip. Like he expected more for not doing his Job. Take it from me there are plenty of other spots that you can go to for authentic Italian cuisine for half the price

5 Stars: Tasty Italian (by Bob454)

1 Stars: WORST PLACE EVER~!!!! (by jbridget)

Do NOT come here!!! Worst food and service I may have EVER experienced! Sat for at least an hour while ALL the waiters working refused to make eye contact! Finally someone took our order but soon after, even the appetizers came before the waiter realized AND THEN served us our bottle of wine. Most unimpressive food and ridiculous service ever... I would give this establishment negative ratings!!!!!!!!!

5 Stars: VERY GOOD!! (by Gerald58)

Trattoria Dopo Teatro was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a run-of-the-mill Times Square Italian restaurant but ended up really liking it. Our waiter was excellent and the food was very good. The ambiance was also very nice. Recommended for NYers and tourists alike.

4 Stars: Fantastic Food at a Good Price (by Candice C.)

This Italian restaurant is a favorite of mine and my husband's. We recommend this place to our friends, and bring people to eat there if they want to go for Italian when in NYC. The food is outstanding- large portions at a terrific price. However, there are too many tables jammed into a small area, so it is quite noisy. Sitting downstairs is a little better, although not very intimate.

3 Stars: None better in Times Square (by DrGeis)

But that doesn't mean it's good. It's okay, and not too pricey. One of those places that, given the competition among Italian places in NYC, would probably not suvive if it were not in Times Square Theatre District. Went there with another couple and tried each the four different pasta dishes. None bad, one quite good, two fair. I agree that their bread is pretty sad, as pointed out by another reviewer.
Overall, you could do worse, but if I weren't in TS, I wouldn't come just for this.

5 Stars: Enjoyed Dopo Teatro (by froffy32)

Went here with my wife pre-theatre. We had an excellent meal. I had a pasta dish and my wife enjoyed some seafood. Nice wine list from what I remember and the service was very good as well. I also liked the indoor garden-like atmosphere downstairs.

3 Stars: Good food, nice atmosphere but some issues (by susanje)

We are native NYers who don't usually eat in "touristy" Times Square but we just about "fell" into this place because we had out of town guests who parked at the garage across the street. we were thinking about where to eat and there it was. So we stepped in. I ordered the spaghetti with clams and my husband had open lobster ravioli. Our guests had the rigatoni bologonese and the pesto dish. Everyone liked their dishes. Mine could have used a bit more garlic and flavor. It was good but not REALLY good.

We all had and shared desserts. Again good but not really good.

The wait staff was polite but we were there on a slow night and they had jammed a lot of tables close to each other and half the (back) room was empty. Had they seated one of the foursomes at a table for six, it would have been more comfortable. Because of how jammed in we were the waiters had to keep going around the next table to get to one half of our table. It was silly.

My other issue is the bread. They don't have good Italian bread like most Italian restaurants in the city. That was a HUGE disappointment for my guests.

2 Stars: The Food is OK! (by EricPennyworth)

I cannot believe how poorly the owner and staff treat their customers. The food is OK, but they seem out of many menu items. We go to many neighborhood restaurants in the area, and will never be back to this one after seeing the behavior of the owner. There are many better choices nearby.

5 Stars: Hands down loved it (by kellychoosie)

We were going to the theater and decided to try this place. The food was really deliciuos and served in a profesional timely fashion. We were a group of 8, so things could have gone wrong, but everything was really great. All of our appetizers were great, all came on time and were served to the right person without tossing the plates around. Our server was very attentive. We had some great salads, one my friend had was with prociutto, served in a big glass bowl, very nice presentation. I had this unusual salad with marinated bread, Tuscan style called Panzonella.... It was amazing!!! We all were happy about the appetizers and than the main courses blew us away. I had increadible pasta, tossed with sea food and arugula, different, but delicious. Couple of people had a steak, fish, tilapia that they raved about. Well to top it all off, we had triramisu to die for.... We had a wonderful time. They got us out just in time for the theater without rushing us out. Really amazing experience, especially with a large party. Highly recomended.

1 Stars: Awful food and lousy service (by wkko)

Appetizer (salmon/ricotta crepe) was salty but otherwise tasty. That is the only positive thing I can say about the meal. Not one person liked their main course, and several people left the table hungry rather than finish their meals. One of the glasses of wine we got tasted like the bottle had been open for a few days. Even the bread they gave us was tasteless and bordering on stale. The service wasn't any better than the food. We were asked how everything was before people really had a chance to taste their dishes, and then we were left trying to flag someone down to for some cheese (to mask the taste of the food) and more water for most of the meal. We were sitting in a corner, yes, but that's no excuse. Never going there again. Never letting anyone I know go there. STAY AWAY

4 Stars: Great food! Good prices! (by cbadloc)

My wife and I went for our anniversary recently before an 8pm show. Reservation was at 6pm and were seated promptly. It wasn't really romantic in the sense if you're looking for a quiet or intimate setting. However, the tables are far apart from each other (unlike other restaurants) and the garden downstairs where we sat was really nice. Service was good and quick without being pushy (appetizers came out in less than 5 minutes) with everything finished with bill at around 1 hour. We could've stayed longer if needed as it didn't seem like we were being rushed out of the place. My lamb shank was excellent! Very flavorful in a large portion. My wife had a lobster pasta which was also excellent. We were both satisfied with our experience and would definitely go back. Again, I wouldn't describe it as quiet or intimate setting but was still enjoyable dining in the garden area downstairs for our anniversary.

5 Stars: Delicious Food! (by Bobrty)

I've been to Dopo Teatro several times and have had an excellent experience on every visit. The pastas are fresh and the various meats and seafood dishes are delicious. They have a great wine list as well. The service is always attentive without being overbearing. Oh yeah, the ambiance is very nice. I especially like the indoor garden-style room downstairs.

3 Stars: Nice But Not Romantic (by Travel22)

I received a gift certificate for this restaurant, so we decided to check it out. We were seated on the lower level, up against the stairs. It was crowded, the tables are very close together, and it was quite noisy. We were sat right next to a big party- not romantic at all. The food and drinks were okay, a bit over priced, but what isn't in New York??! The customer service was great and much appreciated, but the environment was a let-down.

5 Stars: Romantic night without the kids (by Hitman17)

After 12 years and 3 kids my wife and I are trying to add more "us time" to our marriage. We had tickets for the theater on a Wednesday and picked this place based on reviews. We had a 6pm seating but got there and 5:45 and were sat right away. We had a very romantic table in the Garden room next to the waterfall. We are not big wine drinkers but both had a glass, nothing expensive, to help set the mood. We both had tortelini soup, and split 2 appetizers. My wife had filet mignon with zuccini and gorgonzola on top. It was very tasty. I had steak over arugala with thinly sliced parmasean cheese on it. It was mouth watering. We both had the chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream and it was incredible. The portions were big enough to fill you without being too big you have to take a doggy bag to the theater or throw it out. The service was polite and fast enough to get us to the show within 2 hours. Well worth the trip if you need a nice romantic night out without the kids it is perfect and not too expensive unless you want big time wine which is there if want it. If you do go and take the kids the pizza at the next table looked very good as well.

3 Stars: Very loud and not romantic (by awgree3)

I took my girlfriend here for what I hoped would be a romantic dinner in the theater district. I was disappointed to find that the restaurant was extremely noisy and crowded; not at all what I expected. The decorations, which look charming on the website, appear tacky and nearly gaudy in person.

Our server was not particularly friendly or skilled. He neglected to bring bread to the table and our water wasn't filled as promptly as I like.

As far as the food goes it can only be described as mediocre. The portion size was modest, but not large enough to be satisfying and the prices, though modest, were too high for the quality and quantity of the food provided.

All in all, I would say that this restaurant was decent, but there are far better choices within the area to chose from that would provide superior food quality and value.

5 Stars: Great pasta! (by cjohanson1)

We had theater tickets, so we made a reservation for dinner before the theater. Since our show was canceled, we decided to go out to dinner anyway to check out the restaurant for future reference. It was great. The fusilli pasta was delicious. My husband had the rigotoni which was equally great, we had a bottle of great Vermentino and really good tiramisu for desert. Well, when the theaters go back to business we will definitely be back. Great experience.

5 Stars: Great Romantic Dinner for wine lovers (by ct555)

My boyfriend and I both love wine. We came to this restaurant because of its great wine list and we were not disappointed. They have an amazing selection and great wine collection with some of the best vintages, really worth looking into. The food was great. The ossobuco complemented our Barolo perfectly. The service was really great too. THey offered to decant the wine, which is great during the pre-theater time. We were incredibly impressed. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and professional; he offered some great advice. We had a great time. We just found our new pre-theater destination and the prices were very reasonable.

1 Stars: You get what you pay for (by deniseprovenza)

I met girlfriends at this place on Thursday, September 29, 2007. I had heard that the food was good from 2 friends. The prix fixe menu is $22.50 but a glass of wine (which was a brand that sells for $6.99 in the liquor store), was $10 a glass. The lasagna was advertised as having bechamel sauce, which it did not (it was fairly flavorless) and the dessert that was on the menu, fruit tart, was sold out and substituted with lemon sorbet (a big disappointment). Our waiter spilled a glass of red wine all onver my skirt and blouse and proceeded to charge me for the wine. When I inquired as to being reimbursed for my cleaning bill, he said, "We don't do that here" and offered the table an after dinner drink. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this establishment.

5 Stars: Great authentic Italian! (by adornag)

As a resident of New York for many years, I have always thought it best to avoid the Theatre District for dining options. Even when attending a show I usually dine further downtown to avoid crowds and the ridiculous overpriced cuisine that is common in that area. That being the case, Trattoria Dopo Teatro was a welcome surprise. It was recommended to me by a friend who promised that I wouldn't be disappointed and she was definitely right! The waiters were extremely friendly (one even sang a spirited "Happy Birthday" to my fiancee at the end of our meal, complete with candle!), the service was quick, and the food was delicious. For main courses, I had a creamy and filling seafood risotto which was one of the specials of the day, and my fiancee had a pasta with wild boar (his first time trying it!) that was delectable. The staff was courteous and considerate, the wine list was HUGE, and when the check came I was pleased to see that it was a fraction of the price we would have expected to pay for food of this quality and in this location. You would be hard pressed to find a better deal in this area. Needless to say, I have since been recommending it to others, and we will be returning. I don't typically write restaurant reviews, but this place is a great find, particularly for theatre-goers.

2 Stars: save your $$$$$ (by mommagoo)

Not good food..........bread was stale, wine is hugely expensive......the menu didn't even offer veal.....
just lots of fish and pasta. We should have left. Not what we expected. The waiter complained no people were there! Wonder why?
They did have a special veal chop that night........$23.00. It was butterflied, dreged in breadcrumbs and "fried" in old olive oil. No spices, no garlic...it even needed salt & pepper! No sauce!
On top of that they put an argula salad with tomatoes on it...no dressing...or little olive oil maybe.
We couldn't eat it...the taste was "off", and it had no flavor.
Our waiter didn't even ask us how our meal was. When he saw our uneaten plates, I said, "We didn't like our meal very much."
He replied, "Thank you, you got veal and a bottle of wine!" "What's more?"
Coffee was watery..........what a disappointment.

5 Stars: Fabulous Find (by tf70)

We just stumbled upon this place, while looking for a different Italian place that is not there any more on our way to the theater. It was Friday night, pre-theater and we obviously did not have reservations and it was 7 of us, well let us just say, I was not very optimistic about finding a good place under the circumstances. Boy was I wrong. We saw some people leaving and we asked them how was the food, they said it was amazing, but it looked pretty crowded, we figured, we'd give it a try. I walked up to the hostess and asked, she was so sweet, she said she would try working something out if we waited few minutes at the bar. Literally a few minutes later she came back and graciously asked us if we would't mind sitting in the secret garden. And so we went down the steps to the garden. It's a very pretty room with fresco tiles that looks like a courtyard, more than a garden, but we sat at a table covered with the Italian fresco tiles and ordered. Our waiter was very nice and helped us with the menu. My fettucine pasta was truly amazing. My kids had pizza that they are still talking about. My husband loved his rib-eye steak. My friends had the ragotoni Siciliana with eggplant and tomato sauce (I tasted a little,) which we have to come back for.... Just great and to think we just walked in and got lucky. Well I'm passing on the luck, see for yourself.

5 Stars: Consistently Great (by 54h57)

We have discovered this restaurant about a year ago through a business function held at the lower level. My co-workers and I liked the food served at the event so much, we came back for lunch to try different dishes from the menu. Now we all adore the restaurant and call it "our hidden gem." Great, authentic Italian food is hard to come by in the theater district, this is an exception. I have brought so many friends to the restaurant and everyone is always satisfied with the food, even my friend from Italy was impressed with the pizza and the pasta. I highly recommend the pasta dishes, all of them are great and the ossobuco is truly exceptional. Always better to avoid the pre-theater crowds, but if you are going to the theater this is the best place around. We just went pre theater yesterday with a group of ten and everything was so terrific as always. High praises.

1 Stars: Eat It and Beat It For Tourist (by Jerry R.)

My wife and I dined at the restaurant last Friday. We had a pre-theatre reservation and arrived at 6 pm. The interior was like an older pizza place in Brooklyn and we were expecting a solid, but not an elegant experience. Contrary to the reviews (that I suspect were given by the staff), the food was poorly prepared and served cold. The salmon dish was not fresh and looked as though it had been cooked in the morning and kept on a buffet table. The pasta was mushy, over cooked and poorly flavored. The best part of the meal was the bread. When I asked the waiter to replace my dish, he said no. He did say he would try to reheat it for me. When I received the second try it was no better--just over cooked, barely warm and total tasteless. It was insulting not be able to get my dish replaced with hot, fresh food. This uncaring approach truly reflects the attitude of the chef and the restaurant. Take my warning--this restaurant does not care about its customers. Dopo Teatro is an "eat it and beat it" restaurant for an unsuspecting tourist. And do not expect any consideration or courtesy from the wait staff as they are too busy to care whether a diner gets good food or has a good experience.

5 Stars: Nice and romantic pre theater (by phil09)

I took my girlfriend for a pre theater dinner on Saturday. I made a reservation for a romantic table in the secret garden. They were very nice on the phone and promised they would get us a nice table. The restaurant was very busy when we got there. The hostess ushered us through the crowed down the stairs to the secret garden, to a table in a little corner in an alcove, like a balcony, above the rest of the room. The room itself is so beautiful, full of frescos... wow. My girlfriend was so impressed. The food was terrific. I had the ossobuco and she had rigotoni pasta. The food was amazing, the service was impeccable. Their wine selection is great, I picked a nice bottle for us. The server served it in a decanter perfect. We truly had the best pre theater meal ever. The place looks small from outside, but then you go and discover there secret rooms. It is not only beautiful, but conveniently located (we went to see Spamelot,) has terrific food and great, friendly service. We will definitely be back.

1 Stars: Price Fix Menu is no good (by gripdxd)

I dined here with a party of 6 and sat downstairs in the "theater room" I believe. We were jammed in real tight and felt as if we were sitting in a cafeteria. Constantly we were bumped into by servers because it was such a tight squeeze (we also had reservations). We went with the price fix menu and was really disappointed. We wish we had ordered from the regular menu. The fruit mousse dessert was garbage, definitely not a treat (go with the sorbet). Overall very disappointing and I had to wait too long for a cup of tea.

I have been bringing clients to this restaurant by my office for years; they have been consistently great. The food is amazing, best ossobuco in the area.
3 Stars: A SAD LUNCH EXPERIENCE (by mangiafuoco)

I made the reservation for lunch in this lovely look like restaurant loaded with charming photo in the theatre district right by one of my company offices.
I unfortunately had a very unhappy and pour experience from the first minute we walk in were the hostes was not friendly at all, the server came after good 10 minutes saying ( we are not open yet you need to wait ),and let's don't talk about the food and the rest of the service....so big deal I went at 11:25, and got that response !
A Fat and extensive wine list compliments the expensive lunch time in this place.
Nobody help us at all, very unpleasant and blended food.

5 Stars: A lovely pre-theater Outing (by dineoutfor4)

This is a restaurant my daughter takes her coligoues to since she works in the area. This was the first time my husband and I went. We had tickets to the theater, so we decided to try it. My daughter made reservations for us for Friday night. We were greeted by the pleasant host in the front and seated promptly. We were seated in a little alcove by the wall, very cozy. My daughter had her favorite, but we had take a while to go through the extensive menu. I had pasta with wild boar, which absolutely fabulous. I usaully do not take the time to write reviews, although I read them quite often. This dish was so good, I had to let everybody know. We were all very happy with our choises. My daughter had her favorite pizza Margarita, my son-in-law had the ossobuco, my husband had the delicous rissotto and I was thrilled with my wild boar pasta. All of this fabulous food promptly and in time for the theater. Wonderful, really. The restaurant was very busy and the music slightly too high for my taste, but the food more than made up for it. A really great choice!

1 Stars: A Big Disappointment!! (by txgirl44)

We had pre-theater reservations at 6 p.m. and were seated immediately. The atmosphere was nice, but the waiter had a look of comtempt when we said we wanted the pre fixe dinner. The salmon was OK but the lasagne and penne pasta were bland and not even pleasing to the eye. Maybe ordering off the regular menu would have been better. The highlight (sarcasm) was dessert. Our chocolate cake looked like one slice of cake that they had sliced into thirds before serving us. I guess you get what you pay for! I would not recommend this place to tourists even if it is close to your theater! I don't usually take the time to write a review, but I just had to in this case.

5 Stars: Pleasantly Surprized (by hslawretep)

We had dinner there on Saturday before seeing "Journey's End." We selected the restaurant based on location (it's right next to the Belasco Theater) and the reviews. Generally speaking Theater Distric is not a place for great Italian, but this was truely wonderful. Black tagliolini pasta with shrimp and spicy tomato sauce was great, so flavorfull. My wife's Bucatini all?Amatriciana (pasta with pancetta, sliced onions and
tomato sauce) was outstanding and she is a harsh critic, because she is Italian. She was blown away.
Our friends had pasta with pancetta, fava beans and white wine, which I tasted and it was delicious. I also tasted our friend's pizza, which they said was just like pizza in Rome... Well to have Italians love Italian food in Manhattan, that's an accomplishment; they will always find something not done "the way it's supposed to be." We were all blown away by how delicious and authentic the food was. The service was very good. The interior was very pleasantly decorated. The restaurant was very crowded, but I guess you can not have it all; it was Sat evening before the theater, but we liked the food so much we are going to come back just for dinner on a calmer night. Our waiter said Mon or Tues are usually okay... Go for the food!!!!!

When we came in, the restaurant was very busy. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and seated promptly. She showed us to a table in the downstrais garden. THe space is very unique and truely gorgeous, but the room was a little too cold.

Our waiter was excellent, very nice and helpful. He help us to select a great wine. Now, the best part of the visit was the food. The rogatoni pasta was flavourful and delicious. Pizza Dopo Teatro with prociutto and trufle oil is amazing. We are going to return for sure. A great find!!!! They just need to regulate the temperature a little better.

2 Stars: It ain't that good. (by roccodonvito)

The food average - just average. The service below average. Our server was told we were in a rush and he still waited 45 minutes to give us our meal. A pizza and pasta - a meal that should have taken top's ten minutes to cook. That left us 7 minutes to eat and 7 minutes to get to our show. So even if the food was good - we really couldn't have enjoyed it...

5 Stars: Wonderful meal, beautiful decor, great party rooms (by sharopooks)

We have been checking out restaurants that have private rooms for an event we're having later this year & decided to dine here on Valentine's Day to try the food & see the private rooms. True, there is a bit of a "cattle call" feel at most restaurants on V-Day due to increased volume (the pleasant hostess didn't even show us to the table but directed us & another party to a general vicinity...which was fine because we got to choose our tables but still). Tthough our waiter was very busy, he was nice and accommodating. The various wall frescoes in this restaurant provide a gorgeous setting for a meal. A wide variety of food; many dishes have seafood in them but there's plenty without ( if you want something without the seafood, I'm sure they would oblige, they were very accommodating to us re: food requests). The meal was great - particularly loved the Bucatini all?Amatriciana (pancetta & noodles) - cooked perfectly in a savory sauce, absolutely delicious. Must admit that the pollo ai porcini was just OK, not great (the sauce was pleasing but the actual chicken was just good). & it was a little disappointing that the open raviolo is only served after 8PM (we were 15 mins too early) but I guess that's their choice. Enjoyed it all w/ a yummy kir royale (the Valentine's drink special). Fabulous tiramisu for dessert (though must say that they didn't have a few of the things that were on the dessert menu). We had told our waiter before the meal that we wanted to talk to someone afterwards about the private rooms, & promptly after we finished our meal, Bart, the manager came over to speak w/ us. Bart was informative & personable, he really made us feel comfortable about possibly having an event there. Gave us a whole informational packet. This is the frontrunner for our event but even if we ultimately choose another place, I definitely want to eat here again - I want to try their risotto & cheesecake since I didn't get to the first time!

4 Stars: Good Italian before the show or after (by sang337)

my family and i went to dopo teatro before our 7 o' clock show on Sunday. To our surprise, Dopo Teatro was good especially their pastas and pizza. Their la caprese and pizza caprese were fantastic. The food came out fast which was good since we had a show to catch. Dopo teatro was one of the better restaurants i've gone too before seeing a show. obviously, if you are expecting babbo or il mulino type italian food here, then you'll disappointed. but, as the saying goes.. you get what you pay for and at dopo teatro you will be satisfied.

5 Stars: Amazing Food/Beautiful Interior (by faytar)

We made reservations on Sat at 7:30 for 6 people. We were seated right away at a round table in the dining room. The food was just unbelievable. I had the chicken with porcini mushrooms in a wine sauce. The chicken was so tender, the sauce was delicious and the mushrooms solidified all the flavours, simply amazing. We ordered a couple appetizers to share, everyone loved the food. The mushrooms with soft polenta was especially good, so was the antipasto platter. My friends were raving about the pasta dishes and the ossobucco.

Our waiter was very good and friendly. He helped select a bottle of wine for the table. The service was very attentive, eventhough the restaurant was very busy. I ordered a martini from the bar, my friends decided to have drinks from the bar after my order and the waiter brought all the drinks together and very promptly. Actually we were all pleasantly surprised how well we got taken care of in a busy night. We were expecting a pre-theater crowd, but the restaurant was very crowded when we got there. If you are not going to the theater I would urge you to make an 8:00 reservation, the restaurant empties out and it's much more pleasant. In fact, we made reservations on the way out for next weekend at 8:00. I can only imagine how great the service is going to be, when on a busy night they treated us so well. Looking forward to going back. My highest recommendations.

5 Stars: Great Service & Superb Food (by caroltour)

We came to have dinner following our friend's advice. We had a wonderful time. The restaurant is beautiful. We were sitting upstrais in the main dinning room, very cozy. Our waiter was great, he helped us with food selections and recommended a great bottle of wine. Skip the bread, it is not the best, and it will save you room for what's to follow: wonderful food. The ossobocco was splendid. Our complements to the chef. Pasta with wild boar - a must... What a treat to find a place that serves great food in beautiful and comfortable surroundings and won't break the bank. A great deal.

5 Stars: Amazing Italian Food (by leo23kad)

We stopped in before the theater on Wed. It was terrific. The food was really amazing. My pasta dish was great. Sicialiana, wow, full of flavour, so tasty. My husband had a steak. He said it was very good. We looked at the wine list, well, it was very confusing. They have such tremendous varaiety of wines, it's difficult to find what you want. Most of the wines are Italian, which I guess is fine, if you like Italian wines. We prefer the French wines, of which they do not have such great variety. Well, our waiter was knowledgeble and helped us to make a good selection. We are very happy to have found this restaurant, the food was truely exceptional. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. Really great overall.

5 Stars: Excellent Italian!!! (by kathy678)

Bravo, this restaurant serves fabulous, authentic Italian food. I'm still wild about the pasta with wild boar... Amazing. Pasta was great. We all loved the food. 4 of my friends and I ate here on a friends recommendation. The food was truely amazing. The atmosphere is nice. Service could use improvement, but they were very busy, so it's somewhat forgivable. The pasta with wild boar.... amazing.

3 Stars: food was just average (by pinktyke)

I went to Trattoria Dopo Teatro for lunch today because of its convenient location and good reviews, but I was quite disappointed with the quality of their food. I ordered the penne with italian sausage and wild mushroom, and it didn't taste that great - the sauce was slightly too watery and the pasta was on the soft side. My boyfriend ordered their pizza, and as mentioned in previous reviews, the crust was too soggy. This place is alright if location is one of your main considerations, but I won't recommend it to others and will not make a trip over just to eat at the restaurant.

My husband took me here for our anniversary before heading off to see Spamolat. We had an amazing evening. The restaurant was so romantic. We had a beautiful table downstrais in their garden room. We ordered a wonderful bottle of wine. The food was amazing, I had the open ravioli, my husband tried the steak. We both loved our choices. The service was impeccable. We are definately going to be back. Just wonderful.

5 Stars: Best Pizza Ever ! (by trisha7a)

They serve the best pizza ever. I read a lot of reviews and searched among friends and this is my ultimate pizza place find. The restaurant is beautiful, the decor remainds me of an Italian villa. My friends had pasta dishes and raved about them; my boyfriend had the steak and really liked it. The wine selection was impressive. My friend is a wine lover, not often impressed by wine lists, but here he really went wild. He picked a wine for us, it was delicious.

I still love the pizza here and I really strongly recommend it. The restaurant is romantic, if you're looking for a great date place. We all loved it and will be back for sure!

5 Stars: Great Wine List, Very Tasty Cuisine (by cfogertyy)

Found Dopo Teatro on Citysearch & decided to give it a try. My wife & I went on a Thursday night. It was a good crowd but the service was still very attentive. We were seated in the indoor garden downstairs which was very nice. They have a great wine list to choose from & we got a bottle of Merlot...good recommendation from the waiter. I had a veal dish and my wife had Linguine Montecristoi. Both were excellent. Glad I happened upon this on Citysearch

The food was amazing. The best pizza I've ever had. My friend's steak was great; everyone was happy with their meal. We shared some appetizers, also great.

Our waiter, Ludow, was great. He made our night. His wine recommendation was equisite and made everything that much better. If you go, try to be in Ludow's section, "the best table" in the house. Well we will definately be back and take our hubbies along this time. This is my mom's favorite place, so I didn't think I was going to like it, but I was wrong. The restaurant is beatiful. The high ceilings and the elegant decor create a wonderful ambience. The food is really what you come here for, amazing pizza. I brought my Italian husband here last night and he loved the pizza too.
1 Stars: not worth it (by eatnsgood)

i normally avoid times square like the bird flu. but i was going to a show and read great reviews of dopo, so why not. we ordered a glass of wine. waiter asked us if it was legal. being ID'd? ok. but we didnt know what he was talking about. the wine came ikea-like wine glasses.
we ordered pizza as an appetizer (buffalo mozz, prosciutto, and arugula). the waiter said that it was the best pizza on the menu. the cheese was so runny that the crust was soggy and it had wayyy too much garlic. the waiter asked us if he was supposed to throw the leftovers to the dogs? we also ordered the mahimahi and duck. the duck had little meat although the few bites i got were tasty. my girlfriends mahimahi was bland.
check please....

5 Stars: My theater district favorite (by carmellitta456)

This is one of my true favorites in the theater district. I'm somewhat of a theater buff, so I'm pre-theater dining all the time. The restaruant is a beatiful space. The decor is exquisite. I love the dinning room with the high ceillings and the pictures of Italian cinema on the walls.

The service is always friendly and prompt. They understand the pre-theater crowd. The service is fast and yet not pushy. The managers are always very friendly.

Now, the really important thing is the food - magnificent. I'm a meat lover and they make the best veal in town. My favorite is ossobuco, but the veal scaloppini is equally good. My husband loves their homemade pastas. The brick-oven pizza is excellent as well. We have been comming here for years and they have been consistently wonderful. My complimants to the Chef.

We love the food and the ambience. It's our favorite in the city. We had a great time even late night. I was quite nice. The crawds have gone by than. The food was excellent as always. I had my favorite there, tuna tartare and bowtie pasta with salmon. My husband had the ossobuco, which is really amazing here.

The service was excellent as always. I was happy, they were as nice and friendly late night as they are durring the day : ) We had an amazing time, as always. If you want a more tranquile experience, I highly recommend it. Great ambience!

2 Stars: A disappointment (by caccumanno)

I have no idea how the previous reviews rave about this place, because the food was below average. I went here last night for dinner before a show. We chose the price-fixed pre theater menu. It sounded like a lot of food for the price. The bruschetta was stale, the salad was OK, the salmon was small and nothing spectacular, and was served with about a 1/2 cup of broccoli. My brother and his girlfriend both got the lasagna and it was the smallest piece I've ever seen in my life. The noodles looked burnt too. They said it was OK. I've been to a lot of other places that have an amazing price-fixed menu with excellent food-maybe there are better selections on the regular menu, but if you want a satifying, delicious Italian meal with good portions, this is not the place.

5 Stars: Post theater great! (by carmendiner)

My husband and I love the theater and are always busy and never have time for some real discussion, so we started going to restaurants after the show to exchange thoughts. Well, we usually choose restaurants close to the theaters. This time we chose this one and I tell you, it was wonderful. They have the best tiramisu I've ever tasted and they make this mousse pastery that's delicious. It was 6 of us and we had a great time. The kitchen was still open, so some of us ordered pizza, we had some wine and discussed away. We didn't feel rushed and had a great time. It's a nice post theater destination.

Now, the food will blow you away. I had homemade bowtie pasta with salmon and asparagus - delicious. My husband had pappardelle with chunks of wild boar. The presentation was very nice. And the tiramisu was truely amazing! You should leave some room and try it.

The service was fast and professional. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeble about the wines. He made a perfect suggestion regarding the wine. We loved it so much we had him save us the label. We had an amazing time. I highly recommend it especially for late night romantic gettaway dinners. Salute!

5 Stars: Great pre-theater (or just plain dinner) option. (by lls2005)

I ate at dopo teatro last night based on the reviews here. The food was wonderful. I had the risotto, which was richly flavored with truffle oil. My mother had fettucine ragu and particularly enjoyed the fresh pasta (we wondered if it was made on the premises). And for pre-theater, the prices were pretty reasonable.

The best part, however, was the marinated vegetables on the antipasto plate. The artichokes, tomatoes, and olives were delicious. Before you order though, know that the marinated vegetables, despite what the menu says, are part of the special antipasto plate, not the regular menu one.

One word of warning - the downstairs 'garden' doesn't provide the ambience you might expect. The metal tables and chairs are packed in uncomfortably, and the 'skylight' provides a view of the floor above. I'd request to sit on the top floor.

5 Stars: Nice pre-theater (by 23terrence)

I took my wife here for dinner before the theater. We had a wonderful time. She raved about her food. She had tuna tartare and the red snapper. I opted for meat; the ossobuco was exquisite. The service was very professional and friendly. We got there a little late, they rushed the orders for us. Wonderful, just a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it!

5 Stars: GREAT AMBIENCE AND FOOD. (by piattoricco)

I love theather,and i like Broadway show.
But i never like to eat out in the distric often because i always had a feeling that, theathers restaurant food is not too good, and they don't serve you well.
I was wrong, this place was really crowd, the food nice and well presented, and the service attempt and coordiante well.
the only thing suprise me was the manager ( i guess he was ) who called up our waiter almost screaming quiet loud!
well, sometimes people loose control of them self.
Nice job, hope they will keep up with it!

5 Stars: Romantic! (by caroline_8)

My boyfriend took me here for a special date. It's a beautiful restaurant. The downstrais skylight, indoor garden feels like an Italian villa. We were sitting on this little balcony by the wall waterfall, magnificent. The service was spectacular, the waiter was wonderful. He patiently recited the specials lots of times, as we couldn't decide what we wanted. He also recommended a great bottle of wine to complement our fish dishes. I had the striped bass in balsamic vinegar and garlic sauce. My boyfriend had the cod fish with capers. Both of our dishes were delicious. The wine was chilled to perfection and ellegantly served. The music, the ambience spelled romance paired with great food and prompt and proper service, it is a great destination for a date.

5 Stars: Wonderful meal (by ellieferkrofft)

I took my mom to the theater and took her to dinner at Dopo Teatro. I used to work in the area this used to be my favorite lunch restaurant. Well, the pre-theater experience did not disappoint. We had a very nice waiter, attentive, despite the fact the restaurant was busy. Everyone was exteremly nice, just like I remember from a few years ago. The food was spectacular and very innovative. My mom had soft polenta with sauteed wild mushrooms, light tomato sauce and parmesan. I had filet mignon carpaccio with arugola and parmesan. Great homemade pastas. Reasonable prices, personable staff all in a beautiful, high ceiling pre-war building. Just wonderful...

5 Stars: Fabulous Food in a Beautiful Space (by samspellmen)

I have come across this restaurant by accident. I'm a financial analyst, so work and live downtown. Going to the theater, we saw Trattoria Dopo Teatro and tried it. They squeesed us in with no reserations, and I'm so glad they did... What a delightful meal. I had the ossobuco - it was magnificent. My friend raved about her wide pasta tossed with chunks of wild boar. I was stunned to find such quality, so moderately priced and so close to the theater. We were so impressed, we stopped by for dessert after the show, that's when we met the chef and the friendly manager. It turns out the Chef, Roberto, was formally a chef at Osteria del Circo and Da Silvano... The prices here won't break your budget though. What a find... I'm surprized I haven't heard of them sooner, but I'm passing on the good news : )

5 Stars: My favorite (by 22daryl)

I love the theater, so I go to the pre-theater dinner a lot. This is my favorite pre-theater and it's really close to almost all the theaters. They make their own pastas and desserts, so try. The pizzas are really good. I'm a meat lover, so I will recommend the veal, out of this world, and the steak - love it. Most importantly, they understand the pre theater crowd. The service is quick and friendly. They'll seat you promptly and get you out in time for the show. A glass of wine won't hurt... I love their wine selection.

5 Stars: Superb Food (by patsy8)

I'm from Texas, I moved to New York recently, this restaurant was recommended to me by a friend. I had a lovely time for pre-theater dinner. The service was quick and friendly. The food was excellent. I had the ossobuco that was spectacular. The restaurant was busy, but that's to be expected on a Saturday night before the theater. I read some reviews and I agree with most of them, however, the reviewer suggesting that tourists don't know about restaurant I find appauling. I've travelled a lot and I feel that gives me a better perspective on dining than some New Yorker that never left the city. Sorry, that comment just hit a nerve... The restaurant is lovely with amazing authentic Italian food.

5 Stars: Romantic Ambience (by terrancecallester)

I just have to say, they did a great job. I surprized my wife with a dinner and Broadway show for Valentine's Day on Sat. I made arrangements with the manager beforehand and they delivered. I pre-ordered a bottle of wine to the table and sent flowers to the restaurant to be put on the table for her, when we arrived. It was perfect. We had a table downstrais in the garden, on a little balcony, very romantic. The wine and the flowers were waiting for us. The food was delicious, I had a steak - great. My wife had a lobster ravioli, she raved about. We were out in time for the play, a perfect evenning. My buddy recommended the place, we definately will be back!!!

5 Stars: Nice for large groups! (by katheleneperkinson)

I had to organize, on the fly, a dinner pre-theater on a Sat, before Valetine's Day for 12 women! Hey, good luck to me, huh... Well, I called my friend in a panic and she recommended this place. They were wonderful. I called ahead to make our reservation, I spoke to the menager, who assured me we would be seated at one table. This was a dinner for a fundraiser commitee, so it was important. Everything was perfect. We had a beautiful table downstrais. We were seated promptly. Our waiter was wonderful, very attentive. The food was amazing. A few of us had a wild boar pappardella, which was absolutelly delicious. The veal was excellent I heard from the ladies. The wine was very good and they had us out in time for the show. Wonderful, I can't thank them enough. Mario, the manager - a life saver... Thank you.

I'm surprized to find the bad review from the same weekend I was there, I'm assuming the previous reviewer was there recently. I was there on Sat and had a fantastic time. We had a pre-theater dinner, it was 7 of us. We had a table downstrais, very nice. We were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. One of my daughters had spagetti and liked it very much. I shared pizza with my sister and we absolutelly loved it. The pizza is amazing. I'm a New Yorker and that is good pizza! I have to say, I didn't like the comment about tourists, "who don't know any better." Well, as a New Yorker, I know pizza and love this one!

2 Stars: Disappointing (by s1whitney)

After much research, we decided on this for our pre-theater dinner. We made reservations but arrived and had to wait 10 minutes moving out of people's way constantly before we were seated in what the hostess described as a "beautiful table" Our table was cramped in the downstairs area back corner literally less than 2 ft. from 4 other tables (they really pack em' in) The service was rushed and unfriendly, the food average (bread awful) and the portions small. You literally had to grab the waiter on the way by to ask anything and everyone around was frustrated. We got there at 6:10 and barely made it to our show. It was truly UNROMANTIC. I'm telling you...don't do it.

2 Stars: Not so great (by sarbu)

We picked this place for a family brunch because some had a matinee to attend. After seeing all the positive reviews, I'm not sure if it's because they are from tourists who don't know any better, or if we just went on a bad day.
Many of us ordered the pizza, and it was nothing like wood-fired oven pizza should be - crust was white and floppy, instead of crispy and flaky, and too much cheese.
A few ordered the lobster salad, and the lobster was almost frozen.
One person had a glass of pinot grigio, apparently from a bad bottle - yet the waiter didn't seem to understand this. He eventually got her a new glass of a different wine, but not without some confusion.
2 people ordered a salad before their pizza, and had to wait a very long time in between .
Desserts were decent, nothing spectacular.

If you're going to the theater and need a great place, this is it. I took my 3 daughters, my parents and my wife to the theater last week and we had dinner here. Everything was delicious. The pizza is so great the kids will be satisfied. I had really good stracci, wide pasta, with panceettta, beans in a white wine sauce. My wife loved her gnocchi with lobster. My father raved about the steak. My mom had the chicken with mushrooms. Everybody was happy. They gave us a big table downstrais. We were seated promptly. Our waiter was very attentive and polite. I highly recommend it. Not your ussual rushed pre-theater experience. And Icompletely agree with the previous reviewer, the tiramisu is sinfully good.

My friend took me here on a Friday night. We had a whole bunch, it was 8 of us. We had a blast. The food was fantastic. I had the meat tortellini with prosciutto and peas in a delicious creamy sauce. My freinds had the pizza with 4 cheeses, it was fabulous. Everyone was happy with the food. The service was fast and attentive. We ordered bottles of wine, very good at the waiter's suggestion. Finally, the ambience was so nice. The decor is breathtakingly beautiful downstrais in the garden, where we were sitting. We had a great time. We already made reservation for another dinner here in a couple of weeks, we are going to the theater. Oh, I almost forgot, the tiramisu, my God, you have to try it....
5 Stars: Addicting (by laylabouley)

From the moment I tasted the open lobster ravioli I was hooked!! It was soooo tasty! Haven't found better ravioli anywhere else in NYC. You have to give it a try ! Don't let the theater district stigma fool you, the food is far better than many pricey establishments downtown or uptown. The canalini with tuna is so delectable! Chicken with porcini mushrooms is an explosion of flavor, many great pasta dishes too. I have tried many things from the menu and have never been disappointed, everything is always delicious ! Try the homemade taramisu. And it won't put a dent in your wallet.

I actually met my friend from highschool recently in a lounge around midtown. He invated me here with my wife for dinner before theater. My wife and I go to the theater a lot, so we are sceptical about the pre-theater dinner. Ussually, it's not that good and they rush you out. We most often eat downtown, hop on a train and go to the show. My friend insisted on comming here and he was absolutelly right. Dopo Teatro is a beautiful space, especially downstrais. Spacious with a great, fast service. We had a bottle of great wine. My wife great ravioli with veal. I had great ossobuco. Amazing. The service was spectacular, they didn't rush us, the wine recommendation was right what we were looking for, and we walked 2 blocks to the theater! It was enough to change our pre theater routine; we will be back for sure!

I have come to Dopo for many years now. My wife and I love the place. Recently we ventured out to the theater and had dinner there. They have had consistently good food and service over the years, but the specials have gotten more unique and delicious. I had roasted pork shoulder with Tuscan herbs. Home made roast, that's nice in a restaurant. My wife had ricotta and spinich gnocchi in butterand sage sauce, again not your usual. She liked it very much, but said it was a little heavy, but highly recommends it, if you like butter and sage. The service was excellent as always. Mario, the manager is very cordual. It's a great place in that location. We recommend it.

That was when my daughter was a todler, we used to bring her here. Now she is 16 years old and loves the theater. I bring her to the city often, and whenever we come to see a play we go eat to Dopo. That's our little tradition. She adors their Dopo Teatro Pizza with prociutto and trufil oil. I usually go for the veal. The pastas are great too.
5 Stars: My Favorite Lunch Spot (by tamara71)

I work in the area and I love going to lunch there. They are friendly, the service is fast and the food is delicious. My favorites are the open lobster ravioli, gnocchis and the pizzas. All their pasta is freshly made on the premesis. The also have a brick over, where the pizzas come out of. With the fast and friendly service and terrific food, it's a great lunch place. We just held a copmpany luncheon there and everyone was happy.

5 Stars: Nice Open Ravioli (by peacaboo)

I took my mom here before going to see a play on Broadway. Right away, when you walk in the ambience of this restaurant puts you in a better mood; it's realy pretty and calm. A very nice hostess showed us around and seated us downstairs in the garden. There was a waterfall on the wall, beautiful. I had open ravioli with lobster so delicious. My mom had the linguine and realy loved it, and she is hard to please. I think the great wine selection might have helped! Our waiter was very good and knowledgeble, even directed us to the theater, which was nice. We had an excellent meal, that put us in the right mood for the play.

5 Stars: Great Pasta (by carlymiex)

I go to many restaurants, but this one has a very interesting menu. I had pappardelle with chucks of wild boar!!!!! It was wildly delicious. The meat was tender and very tasty. Pappardelle - very good. The service was attentive and friendly. I spilled my wine, they brought me another on the house without me even asking, which was nice. The decor is cozy and elegant, the tall ceilling gives the space a distinctive aura. Besides the location and the decor I highly recommend the food, if you are a meat lover, like me, I urge you to try the wild boar pappardelle. Excellent pasta as well.

5 Stars: Great food (by carolina7)

I went on a friends recommendation and wow... I had the best gnocchi ever. I highly recommend it. It was served with lobster and sundried tomatoes, realy excellent. The service was very good. Our waiter recommended a great desert and we went off to the theater. Impeccable service, great food and a nice wine collection all wraped up in a beautiful interior. Check out the downstrais garden. Realy impressive.

5 Stars: "Wicked" Good Time (by sherleym)

A group of my girlfriends and I went to see "Wicked." We needed a restaurant to go to before the theater and this one was recommemnded to me by a friend. I was a little aprehensive, because it was 9 of us and pre-theater restaurants tend to rush you, especially a large group like that. A few of my girlfriends are from Atlanta, so I wanted to show them a good time in New York. Boy was this place the right choice! The food was phenomenal and the waiter was the nicest, most attentive I've encountered in a long time. One of us ordered the worg martini and the manager replaced it on the house for the apparent mix-up. Well, phenomenal place really. The food was delicious, the decor gorgeous and the location fabulous. I highly recommend it!

5 Stars: A wonderful time (by francisbouley)

My husband took me here for my birthday dinner, before taking me to the theater. We had a wonderful time. The food was exquisite. I haven't had italian pasta like that since our honeymoon in Tuscony. My husband had the pizza, which was great. We were seated in the downstrais garden, that is so romantic. I had such a great experience, I want to let everyne know. If you have a special dinner planned this place won't disappoint. A great pre theater place and a very romantic one.

5 Stars: Great Place for a date! (by jennycallahan)

My boyfriend took me to this restaurant for the first time 3 yrs ago on our first date. We had a great time then and ever since. We go there quite often mainly for the fabulous food and the romantic ambiance, but I recommended it to a few friends for their first dates and they all love it and are still together. We all decided the place makes for a great date spot and it's like a good luck charm! I especially recommend the downstrais for a romantic dinner. As for the food, my favorite is the pizza with 4 different cheeses and the chicken balsamico, my boyfriend loves the veal. The food is really great, the atmosphere so nice and romantic plus there is something in the air. I highly recommed it for dates.

5 Stars: Romantic atmosphere (by kellybates)

My boyfriend took me there for a dinner prior to a show. The whole experience was wonderful. The ambience resembeled that of the romantic movies. We were seated downstrais in the secret garden. We had a table in the corner, by a water fall wall on a elevated balcony... fabulous. If that wasn't enough, the food added to the evening. I had the Chicken balsamico, which was really delicious. We shared a desert and went off to see a show. It was a perfect evenning. If you're looking for a good date place, I highly recommend it. We definately will be back.

4 Stars: Fantastic Food (by kiraeastmond)

I had pre-theater dinner there with 10 of my friends. It was great. They took our reservation only 3 days prior to the show. We were seated promptly, even though the restaurant was busy when we arrived. The staff was so cordial from the moment we got in. Our waiter was attentive and very funny; he made us feel very comfortable. I had the black tanglierne pasta w/a delicious souce. Everyone was raving about the food. The pizza was out of this world. We all had a great time. We got out on time and went to see Wicked. There are not many places that will make a pre-theater dinner for 11 a good experience, they did an amazing job. I highly recommend it.

1 Stars: awful (by scasc)

The food was definitely not cooked fresh. A dish that said it would require an additional 15 minute wait was on the table before we finished our salad. The meal included some clams which tasted awful. Other people at the table ordered dishes with chicken breast that was definitely precooked and reheated. The chicken was dry and tasteless. The coffee was like mud. We all had the feeling that we were being rushed out for the evening theater crowd. It was also pretty expensive and not worth the money.

5 Stars: DO NOT LOOK AT BAD REVIEWS...it's fantastic! (by elphabathropp)

Every year for my birthday, my mother and I go to a broadway show, always stopping for a bite in the theater district. We found out about this place online, and decided to try it for pre-theater. It was amazing. The atmosphere was beautiful, very charming and romantic. We opted for theirs amazing prix-fixe pre-theater menu. The choices ranged from Farfalle Aurora to Spezzatino di Pollo al Funghi to Grilled Salmon in Brown Butter Sauce. Both my mother and I opted for the salmon. The first two courses were a delicious green salad and bruschetta, the entree and then dessert, which was equally as amazing. Our waiter caitered to our every wish, even buying me a special desert for my birthday. Overall it was perfict! It was the best place to celebrate my sweet 16! I reccomend it to any group of people looking for a great time in NY!

2 Stars: Undercooked Risotto (by sweetsnax)

Risotto is one of my favorite dishes and I have had it many times. However, when I had it at Trattoria Dopo Teatro, it was very undercooked - it was actually crunchy! When I said this to the waiter, he just said that's the way it's supposed to be and refused to take it back to the kitchen. I could not eat the dish so I just shared my friend's pasta dish (which was fine). I was just shocked that a waiter would disagree with me when he hadn't even tasted the dish. Because of this negative experience, I will never return.

4 Stars: Grappa. Grappa. Grappa! (by Virginia B.)

If you've never tried this potent liquor made from everything but the grapes (i.e. seeds, stems, etc.), this is one Italian restaurant to try it. Aside from an expansive drink menu, this theater district trattoria offers good, though nothing spectacular, Northern Italian cuisine in a secret-garden-ish atmosphere. Nonetheless, it's perfect for either a quick pre-show dinner or a drink afterwards.

PROS: Inviting, Personable Staff
CONS: Avoid the pre-show rush / wait, make reservations, or be prepared to wait.

5 Stars: Great Food, Great atmosphere, friendly wait-staff (by davidcaspian)

I come here all the time. The food is fantastic, and the wait staff is incredibly friendly. A waiter always buys me a drink or a dessert when I'm there. They have a large menu, the Carne is a little pricy, as always, but well worth it. The black tanglierne pasta is incredible, probably the best on the menu. If you're brave, you could try the rabbit. The atmosphere is fantastic and they play excellent music. (if you like frank sinatra.)

Went here on a date after hearing nice things from friends. We were promptly seated downstairs by the indoor waterfall which was very nice.

Went here on March 23,2005 for a special night out with my daughter after a broadway show. Was not impressed with food at all.I ordered a pasta with shrimp, clams, and mussels. There were 4 mussels 4 baby clams and the smallest shrimp I have ever seen in my life, the kind that would come out of a can. There was absolutly no taste! When the waiter came over and saw a full plate I told him I was done.He wondered why I hadn't eaten and I told him I didn"t care for it.No one really seem to care!My daughter had plain pasta with marinara and she said it was so bland.Won"t be back.To many real Italian restaurants in Manhatten.

2 Stars: felt like a dope-o for going here (by njny99)

took prior reviews to make a reservation. We were seated downstairs barely still in the restaurant and there was a table of about 10 (mothers and their mid-teen aged daughters) who were SO loud it was destroying any ambience that was in the place. I spoke to the manager who did not have the guts to ask the table to stop shouting (he said there was nothing he could do) even though 4 other tables of diners were being disturbed and sent over his poor waiter! The other tables let out a sigh of relief when the shouting stopped--manners anyone? Chicken was dry, lasagna was average, manager was indifferent.
