Good place in the east village to get your beauty on. Every thing is inexpensive and thorough. I love their 45 minute pedicure, especially since it's oh so cheap! (23$). Some of the beauticians are much better than others, but you'll never get a bad one, just a better one. I highly reccommend it for cheap, cheerful and excellent service

Was this review helpful to you?
It is true that the atmosphere is not very relaxing - but for efficient and thorough waxing I wouldn't go anywhere else. I have been going here for 4 years and have never had a bad experience. Also, I use my debit card every time so I'm not sure what that other reviewer was talking about. The only thing they won't let you charge is the tip. I've seen just about every esthetician in the place, but my two favorites are Ely (esp. for brazilians) and Rosa (esp. for brows)
Pros: Thorough and efficient waxing
Cons: Not so hot if you're looking for a "spa" atmosphere

I have been going to Jeniette for four years and will always go back.
The location is a medium size loft which is well iluminated.
The staff is mainly latin american. The peolple at the cashier are asian.
I have never had a bad experience.
I really like the mani-pedis.
I keep going back for Silvia's great feet massages and body massages.
Liliana does a beautiful work on your hands and feet as well.
Sonia is my favourite when it comes to waxing.
You can have everything done (mani-pedis, whiole leg waxing, under arm)
for less than $100.
Everybody is very courteous.
The place is clean. I have read bad reviews about a hole in the wall.
Hummm... maybe that was when they were adding another bathroom
a few weeks ago? There was a construction going on...
If you want a sleek looking place, with people that will bring you coffee
and pastries and willing to pay 4 times more, this is not your place.
I go there in a weekly basis. But if you are looking for a once a month
pampering and you want to splurge go to the bergdorf goodman salon.
Bye, -F.
Pros: good service, fair prices, friendly
Cons: i don't find any really. i know what to expect

I've been going to this spa almost every week for 10 years and I love this place! The services are reasonably-priced -- manicures, waxing, massages, facials -- and always great quality. The owner, the staff, and even the other regulars here are always friendly and really make you feel at home. I've been to some of the best spas in the city, yet I keep coming back to Jeniette. In my opinion, I don't know why you would go anywhere else.
Posted 08/08/07
Definitely not the most appealing interior and they could probably notch the cleaniess up a little.
On the positive side though, their wax is probably the least painful that I have used in a while. I keep going back to Sonia for waxing. She is really sweet, quick, and makes the experience as painless as possible.
Given that they are much cheaper than most places in the area, you get what you pay for in terms of interior.
Pros: Cheap, quick and painless waxing
Cons: Could be a little cleaner and the staff at the cashier a little friendlier

To call this hole a ?spa? is insulting to the other lovely establishments in the city that also adorn that title. The website is completely misleading ? you don?t see the exposed duct work above you, you don?t get to see the glaring deli style red and white awning in front, and you don?t get introduced to their jug-o-wine and Dixie cup hospitality service that so many have mentioned in these reviews. Oh, their famed celebrity sightings ? Mandy Moore, Halle Barry ? probably were just that, sightings outside the place, but I highly doubt IN the ?spa.? I tend to take these reviews with a grain of salt ? everyone?s opinion differs right? I honestly don?t get how anyone has ever had a pleasant experience there. From the moment you walk in, you?re greeted by a glorified hole in the wall nail salon with a slew of non-English speaking girls. The music is not what you could ever deem as relaxing either ? if you can relax to hiphop, more power to you. Unless someone explained their ?ticket? system to you beforehand, good luck with that. Don?t expect service by any means, never mind courtesy. It just doesn?t exist. How they claim to have been in business since 1982 baffles me. Don't waste your time...spend the extra bit of money somewhere else!
Pros: Prices - what you get what you pay for
Cons: Just about everything

Dixie cups. Typically associated with mouthwash, and the occasional visit to the dentist, rarely would I expect to see a surplus of Dixie cups along side a large, and mostly empty jug of red wine. Did I mention the accompanying pitcher of iced tea that looked like it had seen better (read: cleaner) days? NYC is littered with hole-in-the-wall establishments. Sometime you stumble upon a well-kept secret. I have my own black book of great secrets. I had high hopes of adding Jeniette Spa to my little black book. Was I in for a tragedy. So tragic, in fact, that the drama started the day before. My girlfriend and I get together each month to unwind. This month?s play date would be a day at the spa. I looked at spaweek and came across Jeniette Spa. We booked the spa mani/pedi, 10min massage, & anti-aging facial. After a 50% deposit at booking time a month earlier, no reminder call. My girlfriend called the day before to confirm. What appointment? Jeniette gets on the line herself to accuse my friend of booking the wrong date, not showing up, then wanting to ?rip off a small business owner?. Jeniette booked the wrong date, made ugly accusations, then had the audacity to say she could ?squeeze? us in. Saturday morning I am looking forward to much needed pampering & QT. On to Jeniette. The entrance rivaled that of every deli in NYC. We sit at the reception area and are greeted by the Dixie cups. I go in for the pedi and my friend is led to her facial. Why aren't we together? ?Only one person for facials, so one at a time.? So much for QT. The pedi: seated in a recliner, the attendant brings me a basin of water. The poor girl is seated on a stool across from me as she hunches over to ?pamper? my feet on her lap. An hour goes by while Eminem played on the radio. Moving along the assembly line, my facial was actually nice. After another hour, I finally reunite with my friend for my mani, which was over before I knew it. What ever happened to the massages, we may never know.

I love this place. I've been going here for five years already. My father is a podiatrist so I always have to be careful with where I get pedicures, and this place is the cleanest I've been to in the city, by far. And for eyebrows, Rosa is absolutely amazing. And bikini waxes are somehow less painful than usual. A++++.
Pros: The best everything. And VERY clean.
Cons: Always busy...make an appointment!
Posted 06/21/07
I came during spa week, and signed up for the brazilian wax and the eyebrow threading. Spa week is supposed to be $50. In my experience, a brazilian wax can be "everything" or a strip left. I typically get everything taken off, and have never had this questioned anywhere else. Here, they charged me an extra $10 to get "everything" taken off. I thought they could have been a little more clear about what they meant by brazilian wax. Plus, they only took cash, which I only found out when I got to the spa. I rarely carry cash so would have appreciated knowing ahead of time. My asthetician was very good, very friendly, and did a great job though. I stil don't think, I will come back, as I can go to other places that are just as clean, good, etc, for cheaper.
Posted 04/20/07
The place is old, dark, you walk pass by don't even know it is there. Not a pleasant enviornment for being pampered.
The owner Jeniette need a little more education on hospitality and ethics. Trying to scam a customer is not the right way to make money and definitely can't survive the strong competition in New York. Acting rude and virbally abuse customer is no no for someone who is in the service business.
Don't put your hair at risk at this place, the hair stylist doesn't know how to cut a simple style.
It gets worse, the staff doesn't speak half of the English, which makes communication very difficult, hence the bad result of the service .
Pros: location is good
Cons: dated deco, rude owner, poor business ethics
Posted 04/18/07
Found the place to be a little dirty and the people not professional. Called up and made an appointment for a package. Was served by 3 different people whom all asked me what services I wanted, not a great way to relax. First person who did my pedicure could not stop talking about how tired she was and how she had to work on Easter the following day.
Did not find the pricing so low it was worth the less than inviting digs and so so service. Rather pay a little more and go to a REAL spa.
Save your money and try somewhere else.
Pros: Leaving
Cons: Poor service and dirty.

I used to go to the really expensive salons (like Eliza's Eyes) to get my brows done, for fear that one of the corner shops would leave me looking like I have an expression of permanent shock on my face, or worse, having to pencil them in because of a suspect brow job. Then I was introduced to Rosa at Jeniette Spa and I will never go anywhere else. She does an amazing job - from listening to your requests and fulfilling on them, to providing amazing customer service (many a time she has squeezed me in last minute rather than leaving me wait until the end). The prices are affordable and though I hestitate to share this with you, lest she become so popular that I can't get an appointment anymore (!), I can't help but rave about the wonderful service that she has given me for 3 years (and counting) strong!
Posted 02/13/07
I have been going to Jeniette's for 1 year now for my bikini wax- and i swear I have seen a huge decrease in the amount of hair growth!
Rosa is the loveliest, and the wax is quick and painless!
It is a bit expensive , but worth it.
Pros: painless wax
Cons: none

The owners of Jeniette have been business almost 30 years and it is apparent that they've learned a few things. Their place has a charming, old-fashioned and calming atmosphere - unlike your average NYC nail joint . They offer wine and other drinks as well as snacks for their clients. Jeniette's spa packages and other discounts are impressive as well. However, the best part about Jeniette is the quality of the work their employees do! Jeniette's employees are highly qualified, capable and professional.
Posted 12/30/06
I've been a regular at Jeniette for the past 4 years. There are plenty of nail salons in the city but Jeniette's was the only place that I found that strictly enforced clean/sterile practices with all their instruments (you are required to buy your own foot pumice/file but it's only a couple of dollars and is worth it when you think of all the things that you could catch! (ie. nail fungus, etc! yuck!) and you can use it over and over again - they'll even keep it there for you. They are the only place where the people actually take their time to do your nails instead of rushing you out the door. I highly recommend Gloria or Selena. In addition, I got my eyebrows waxed by the guru herself, ROSA!! She's great! I can't say enough about her. But, she is busy so making an appointment is a MUST! I recently moved to LA and cannot find any place that could measure up to Jeniette!!
Pros: Price, Location, They really take their time!
Posted 09/24/06
I used to frequent Jeniette for waxing, mani/pedi's and even had my bridal party get all of their services here before our wedding. They used to be my favorite spot until recently when their attitude got the better of them. Their prices are comparable to other salons and although Rosa is a waxing genuis and Liliana does the best mani's, I would rather feel like a welcomed and appreciated customer, than feeling like I should be grateful to give them $80 every week. If money grew on trees then maybe I wouldn't care, but to get the same treatments here as elsewhere I'd rather enjoy my experience than continuously leave unhappy. Sorry Jeniette, our love affair is over!
Pros: rosa & liliana are great
Cons: attitude, they don't honor appointments

I have been to MANY waxing services, and found THE BEST waxer here. I've had 3 different waxers here and you MUST get Eli! Excellent prices, and what Eli is great for is that she is THOROUGH AS HELL (100% of the time that I go!), yet she has such a gentle touch. She's also done my eyebrow threading, and shapes them quite lovely. I can't believe I've been to other places that charge up the wazoo and they don't even compare to her! She is a gem!
Pros: Excellent prices for incredible service; great 1-on-1 treament with service (w/Eli)
Cons: crowded at times; general staff not-as-friendly as other places (but hey, it's NYC!!)
Posted 06/26/06
I've been a faithful customer for several years, and you can't find better mani/pedi or waxing at reasonable price. The eyebrow wax may be more that whay u pay at cheap nail shops, but it's worth it -- it's your face! They take their time on nails, the massages and facials are great too. Not really a "spa" experience if you want candles and waterfalls, as it can be crowded, but the service is unbeatable. Very friendly staff with a family/friendly atmosphere, not at all snobbish. The staff has fun at work and its nice to be remembered by everyone. No pressure to buy products. If you crave personal attention each time, this is the place!
Pros: Service, Price, Quality
Cons: Sometimes crowded
Posted 02/01/06
They do great waxing but it is so overpriced for the same thing you can get @ one of those nail places, plus they yelled at me for loosing the ticket when the girl doing the service forgot to give it to me and generally I found most of the desk staff to be very rude. I also found it inapporpiate that all the staff stopped what they were doing and blasted to music to have a bday cake for one of the staff right in the middle of my service and it wasn't near opening or closing time.
Posted 12/27/05
In my opinion, Jeniette is the best salon in NYC. I've paid double the price elsewhere, and been much less satisfied with the results. I've been a customer for years, and have never felt rushed through a service - Jeni's staff obviously takes pride in doing their job well! Truly personal service, too.
Pros: affordable, professional, consistent
Posted 11/29/05
When it comes to waxing you want a pro...and jeniette has pros...they are the only place in the city where I have been consistantly pleased with the thorough results.
Posted 07/25/05
I went to jeniette after being disappointed by a few other salons. I didn't have high hopes, but having read the user reviews here, I thought I might get lucky. I certainly did! I had a full leg/bikini wax with Karina. She was fabulous-don't know if it was her technique or the wax they use, but it was nowhere near as painful as other experiences. She is super professional and efficient, speeding through the wax but not missing a hair. She went back over everything at the end, just to check (something other salons have not done in my experience). Though the decor here is pretty minimal (the waxing room was basically a cubicle with a table to lie on and a fake plant) the service is not. I left feeling like I got more than my money's worth. Highly recommended--don't let the sparse decor fool you.
Pros: economical, great quality
Posted 05/22/05
Not only is this an excellent salon, but they are SURPRISINGLY prepared for a spontaneous proposal-- with champagne, cameras and a great cheering crowd all on call! They were so sweet to us-- Jeniette herself giving me some photos a few weeks later! My friends joked that now I'll always have to go back, but the truth is, I was always going back anyway! Finding a salon in NY can be expensive and time consuming. I found Jeniette after trying about 5 salons, and I haven't left since! The services they provide are unbelievably PERFECT- perfect manicure and pedicure, perfect waxing, etc. The price is right! The women who work there have a sweet, but not over the top kiss your A** attitude, which is refreshing after some of the other places I've been. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and I can't say enough good things about it!
Posted 02/24/05
I just went to Jeniette for the first time for a bikini wax and was pleased overall. Once the technician brought me in it was quick, cheap, and relatively painless (for a bikini wax). My only complaint is that there was quite a wait and the front desk staff was rude, inattentive, and disorganized. Despite this, I would return for waxing.
Pros: Inexpensive, Good waxing
Cons: , Shabby atmosphere
Posted 06/16/04
I am so happy that I found Jeniette. They offer great services at an affordable price. Rosa is by far the best aestheistician out there. Great Brazillian waxes and a whiz at eyebrows. I also recommend Lisette, she does a great job as well. I love this place.
Pros: Affordable, Great Work, Friendly
Posted 06/06/04
Jeniette day spa has been excellent to me for the past 8 months, there are so many great things to say of jeniette. They have an excellent Brazilian, and I even tried a threading technique there. It was obvious taht the staff was knew what they were doing and were very kind. I also got my first facial her, and just got my roomate to get one also. All in all I'm very pleased with Jeniette and I recommend that anyone seeking a good beauty experience should visit.
Pros: Staff, Prices, services
Posted 04/08/04
Hair styling, nails, massages, facials, and waxing are all offered in style at this clean and hip day spa. I stumbled onto this place while walking around the conveniently located Union Square location, and treated myself (and boyfriend!) to a Brazilian bikini wax. There was a five-minute wait, but the staff is extremely nice even though it was not the finest wax in the world. For those prices, I would definitely return though.
Pros: Environment, Price, Location
Cons: , Reception's attitude
Posted 03/02/04
Nice and understandind hairdesigners with knowledge of their color and cuts. Great waxing staff. Massage and facials could be better. New manicurists are learning I hope. Bad service at desk, always shouting! They let you wait and wait or forget you are there, seems to overbook, tell everybody to "come as walk-in" but a long wait. Get angry at you for loosing the "green Bill"? Long wait to pay after a relaxing massage or long time with the colorist for great, natural highlights. Not very well organized. Too casual.
Pros: Hairdesigners, employees, waxers
Cons: decour, front desk
Posted 11/07/03
I was recommended to go to Rosa there so I got my eyebrows done by her & they never looked better. She is very professional & explains what she is going to do & what needs to be done. Atmosphere of the place is okay. The counter was a bit hectic when I walked in & very impersonal. Some yelling out & pointing. The waiting area was a little dumpy looking. The waxing room was small but immaculate. The store front would not be a place I would have gone into by myself without a recommendation.
Pros: professional job, clean
Cons: dumpy looking, hectic
Posted 07/29/03
When I heard the reviews I was thrilled to try Jeniette's out. The minute I got there I knew I had made a mistake. Not only was the place a little dumpy, but the staff was yelling to eachother and it was not a peaceful place at all. Also, my spa pedicure was nothing like a spa pedicure. I've gotten plenty of regular pedicures that were much better than that one. My manicure took about 45 minutes which I also thought was rediculous. I definately do not recommend this place, I couldn't wait to leave.
Pros: good manicure, inexpensive
Cons: loud, staff not nice, spa pedicure was awfu
Posted 07/21/03
I can't say enough about this perfectly located slice of Heaven. Try a mani, pedi combo, then a massage! You will feel great.
Pros: nice staff, best priced, spacious
Posted 06/28/03
I can't say enough about Jeniette. I go there for all my beauty needs and they are always on time, kind, respectful, and so caring in their services - which is what a spa is supposed to be - a place where a person can go to heal and rejuvinate and feel beautiful. Jeniette gives me all these things, and they are right in my neighborhood!!
Posted 06/25/03
This salon is excellent! I have been going here for 4 and a half years now with no complaints! I get everything done here, my hair, nails, and of course their fantastic waxing. This salon is a hidden gem, with a luxurious and happy atmosphere. I have already bought gift certificates for massages for 3 friends, and they loved it too! This Salon is a must try fro all! There great prices and services will def. please you as it has done to me.
Pros: Price, Waxing, Atmoshpere
Posted 06/19/03
I wandered in for a manicure and pedicure two years ago and I have never been disappointed. But the best kept secret is Rosa. She does a wonderful job shaping my eyebrows for only $20. I paid anywhere from $30 to $50 uptown for the same service.
Pros: great value, same day appointments, in the neighborhood
Cons: so so hair stylists
Posted 06/14/03
I had a haircut and highlights done here...and how awful! Though I explained to the stylist in at least 3 different ways what I wanted, she still did it completely different (though I admit the cut turned out ok), but what was terrible was the highlights. It was supposed to be a touch-up, and I walked out with MUCH lighter than it was previously, with ridiculously visible roots, and a straw-like texture. When I went back to ask if anything could be done (very politely I might add), the stylist gave me a horrible attitude, and the owner suggested I add MORE highlights.

$18 for 3 min. of eye wax !!!! i usually pay $6 for it, so i felt like i was soooo ripped off. i don't know why everyone praise this place, nothing outstanding, interms of: skill, atmosphere, service and value !!! please do not waste your money!!!
Pros: empty
Cons: expensive, bad service
Posted 01/31/03
This place is absolutely fabulous!! The price and service are amazing, it was surely the best wax I ever had, defenitely try the threading technique.
Pros: Expierence, Service, Pricing
Posted 11/29/02
Though I am a man I felt extremely comfortable at this salon. I didn't feel intimadated or shy because of the accomadating staff. I got my back and shoulder's waxed in under 20 minutes. The day after I was in the sun, and my skin did not become irrated. The wax was so great, that i now continually go there for my haircuts, buff manicures and an occasional massage. This salon is a must try for both sexes.

I've been going to Jeniette for the past 4 years... since I moved to the area. I'm there once a week (if not more!) and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. Jeniette treats me like family, Rosa is an eyebrow genious, and my nails... they are amazing thanks to the perfect manicures that I look forward to every week.

I have been patronizing Jeniette for about 3 years. The spa is clean and the staff is very accomodating. Considering how many spas there are in the city, I always go back because it is great, convenient and reasonably priced. I totally recommend it!
Posted 11/04/02
I treated my mom to a manicure, pedicure, and waxing here because Id been a customer for 2 years. Not only was I not happy with the service, but the owner was utterly rude to me. After having spent over $175 on services, I asked her to give me some singles to tip the manicurists and pedicurists and she had the nerve to lecture me about tippingshe didnt even know how much I was going to tip! Excuse me if I didnt want to tip more than 4 bucks each for a $12 manicure. Anyway, after explaining that to her she apologized but I never went back. What was supposed to be a relaxing afternoon with my mom, turned out to be anything but. She was truly awful.
Pros: nice space
Cons: some rude staff
Posted 10/01/02
The worst manicure I've ever had. It's only been a day and already my nails have bubbles and the polish is cracking. Not only was my manicure less than sastisfactory, but I felt rushed through the process. I would not recommend a manicure at this salon.
Posted 08/10/02
The services I received (waxing/mani/pedi) were great. Truly one of the best Brazilians I have had. Just be warned this is one of those salons you go to by yourself to get the job done for a great price. Don't get me wrong, the people are really nice but the salon itself is a little run down so it's probably not the best place for manicures with mom or the out of town girlfriends.
