I wish the old Sweeney's Seafood was still here. Living only a few blocks away it was one of the best seafood places in town. Seafood is far and away my favorite choice when dining out so recently I decided to try out the new Sweeney's

The service was very slow. And then I was served the wrong meal. When I got my correct meal, my scallops were the smallest I had ever been served in a restaurant. I almost asked the waitress if they had come from a TV dinner. And they were

Experience the first time was poor so we thought we would give it another chance. Still poor. Main Course was served while we were still eating our salad. It was served on a cold plate. The tomatoes were right out of a can and were at

Sweeney's is fantastic. My family and I have been going there for years. We've never had a bad experience. If you like fresh seafood and excellent service this is the place for you. It's family run and you always see the same faces.

The seafood is mostly frozen then deep fried.

The menu selection is lacking.

What really blows my mind, though, is how the restaurant hasn't been remodeled since the 1970's.

The dining room is decorated with dingy, old and tacky disco

OK, the parking is confusing but in that old part of town, it's expected. Service could be better. Kept looking for the guy in the pirate's hat. LOL But let me tell you their Crabcakes, I personally have never had any better. I love

I do not know what Mr. Merlot was think! I love Sweenys! They have the best seafood in the whole town. I mean SO much better than Red Lobster or Long Johns. Go here, or at least try it once. I recommend the Clam Cowder. It has a great taste, plus they put celery in it. Its a great version of a classic soup.

I was in the Dayton area last month and this place was recommended to me for seafood. I was misled.

I kid you not- Captain D's or Long John Silver's has better food. No joke. The main difference is that you will pay a fraction the price and would need to bring your own alcohol at the fast food joints, but the service would be better. Sweeney's is evidence that the culinary scene in Ohio is completely dead, like the state itself.

I heard the owner inherited a chain of restaurants and ran them into the ground. From the horrible quality of food, the ignorant service and the decor which doesn't appear to have been updated since the late 70's or early 80's, this seems quite true.

Overall, this dive is a depressing waste of money. Avoid it at all costs.

Pros: Plenty of Liquor

Cons: They serve food

We were recommended to Sweeney's and had a large group of ten with us when we visited on a Friday night. Service was good - not great. Food was excellant, although portions were not large. Matter of fact, of all the entree's the scallops seemed to be the smallest order. But I guess its better than everyone paying for huge portions and having too much food as most restaurants have today. There is money left over for appetizers or dessert. We ordered appetizers of lobster tails, crab cakes, etc that were all great. The bisque was to die for and I would recommended it to all. They also offer the option to add four shrimp (which were very large for $3.95) or other options such as lobster tail to an entree and I would recommend that big eaters do so. Not much atmosphere, but food was very good.

My Fiancee and I decided to try Sweeney's even after hearing mixed reviews from our friends and relatives. Unfortunately we had a hard time siding with those who had positive reviews. Our service was rather non-existant, everything we ordered they were out of, and the food we finally were served was quite under par. The food was very plain, however, if we had ordered the fried fish (which the menu seemed plentiful of), we may have had a more positive experience. All in all a very disappointing experience.

First off all, let me say that the person who didn't seem impressed and compared it to Red Lobster?!? I just don't know what to say. Personally, I find Red Lobster revolting and to compare this place to a Red Lobster, to me invalidates that persons review.

True, the parking is not the best and the entrance is in the back, in fact, while the rest of my family liked the "ambiance" of the place, personally, I found it quite lacking, felt like I was in a cheesy seaside restaurant.

the food, however was another matter. The food was outstanding, and for that I am both recommending it and intend to return again and again. It's probably not a place I would take someone for a business lunch or dinner if overall impression was important, but if you want great seafood, you won't go wrong here!

I tried Sweeneys while i was in Dayton on business, and found it to be average and not up to the 8.8 rating that it has. the service was great the food was ok but only on par with a Red Lobester.and it is a little pricey.
